Is it true that Galaxy Nexus Hardware don't support Bluetooth LE on Android 4.3 like Nexus 4? If not, how to check it supports LE ?

Same here, could someone confirm Galaxy Nexus is now supporting bluetooth smart ?
Just done some web search and found this, which seems to confirm Bluetooth smart support : http://androidtelegraph.com/galaxy-nexus-bluetooth-sig-certification-hints-android-4-3/
But I just want to be sure before buying this : http://www.zephyranywhere.com/products/hxm-smart-heart-rate-monitor/

No Bluetooth 4.0, the gnex was being recertified for 3.0.

Oups... you're right. That's bad considering the bluetooth Galaxy Nexus chip is compatible with 4.0 : http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+Nexus+Teardown/7182/2
Wow... Really!? I am blown away by this revelation... The GNexus has BLE hardware (BT 4.0) but the 4.3 update doesn't add compatibility? That is so so crappy...

Apparently the issue is not with the chip, it's with the kernel. In order to have BLE you need to have the kernel bumped up to 3.4. From what I've read there are instability issues on the GNex with 3.4, possibly due to the fact that TI isn't doing anymore work on the OMAP processor line. So unless google figures out a way to release a stable, then we're out of luck. Or if a kernel developer figures out a way, but from what I understand it's a bit of an undertaking to accomplish.
Is it possible for the debs to actually make it work. If it's I would jump on that.

Hmm... I hadn't heard any of that info. I guess I just assumed that any devices that have BT 4.0 hardware, and get a 4.3 update, would support BLE. When you are saying 3.4, I assume you mean 4.3? Don't the new stock 4.3 images for the nexus devices come with an updated kernel for 4.3? Hopefully this gets worked out...
Ah... I know what you mean by 3.4 now... You are referring to the kernel version.
There is always a weak link, if the OMAP is really not compatible with Kernel 3.4 then it'll be very hard if not impossible for the devs to fix....

Well, that was my speculation earlier in the thread :]. Thing is that a module could be included in whatever kernel there is. Google Glass for instance uses the same chip and CPU as GN, but was certified for BT 2.1 only in April. Why are they're not bringing BLE on there is a mystery, because it's certainly a type of device which would benefit a lot from that functionality.
It may also be that Broadcom doesn't release the proper support for it. Chip vendors can be show stoppers because of politics (they develop new chips all the time, remember).

I have read that gnex has hardware that supports Bluetooth 4.0, is there a rom or kernel that has enabled it to work or is it even possible?
Thanks in advance

I'm sorry man but i think it's impossible according to the samsung specs, it only has bluetooth 3

Thanks. The reason I ask is that I saw this on Wikipedia. It states that it is Bluetooth 4.0 hardware compatible. 2nd reason is I bought those Bluetooth speakers with Bluetooth 4 and apt-x support. I just want to maximize it to it's full potential.

Wait wait wait, one moment, i don't understand. The hardware inside GNeX is bt4 but it has driver that doesn't support that but only bt3, is this what are you saying? It sound really strange to me, maybe that statement on wiki means that GNeX can use other hardware with bt4 even if it's bt3 but not at full power, am i wrong?

It'll be clearer if you check out the link in my previous post. Gnex contains a Samsung SWB-B42 BT 4.0 Dual Band Wlan FM Tx/Rx chip so the hardware is there. The thing is the driver that is currently installed on our gnex only has BT3 coded in. And even if the driver utilizes the phone's BT4.0 capabilities, Android in itself doesn't have native APIs to allow developers to take advantage of the new features.
Sorry if i didn't read the whole link but i was at work so, you can understand... Thank you for the very clear explanation, however it's really really strange this behaviour by google...
Will Google/Android ever get BT4/BLE working on the GNex? Or shall we move on to another device if we need/want it?
Hello everyone,
We all know Android 4.4 KitKat was released today(1/11/2013). Since the source will be availible, is it possible to port it to the kindle fire(1st gen)? If yes, please make a stable rom.
Thank you and have a nice day
(Wanna get rid of CM 10.1)
It will take at least a week I am guessing, because the update "will be rolling out over the following weeks" as Google said, and then people will have to port it, so just have a little bit of patience. Also, why don't you switch to CM10.2 if you don't like what your on, or AOSP for that matter, as that runs better I personally think.

Not very likely since TI (the chip maker for the KF) won't be supporting android any more... or that's at least what I read. I'm hoping that I'm wrong though.

I cannot change too quickly. Mom allowed me only for CM 10.1, and now for CM 11(It will come, right?). Cannot do CM 10.2.
That kernel is not ready for primetime, also there is code that the chip maker will have to release code for it. See hash and others posting about it:

Google says that kitkat can run on devices that have as low as 512mb RAM. We can sure overclock our processor to 1.2 GHz

You know, hash doesn't say anything about not getting it to work. In my opinion he clearly stated that he is really trying to get 4.4 to work. It was others that were being sceptical.

As was previously stated, Texas Instruments is out of the microprocessor chip game and they have stopped supporting the binaries for newer versions of Android. It wasn't directly stated by Google but it's very likely that it was for that reason that they chose not to support the Galaxy Nexus in the newest iteration of Android, as it also uses a TI chip. I'd like to think that it would be possible to run Android 4.4 on the old Kindle Fire, especially since it lags pretty badly on stock, but I am afraid that the likelihood is fairly low.
True that it also what is written on hash's thread for the new kernel. He sure I trying hard and so my hopes are pretty much alive

They already have 4.4 Roms for the Verizon galaxy nexus...it won't get official Google support but they have gotten Roms for it:

As always, XDA is up to some good stuff with a new release of Android now available. Some developers are finding what appears to be updated binaries for the GPU that’s inside the Galaxy Nexus. KitKat was announced last week, and surprisingly, Google decided to drop support for the Galaxy Nexus. It’s surprising because KitKat can run on devices with 256MB of RAM, which the Galaxy Nexus has a full gigabyte of RAM available. We’ve already seen numerous custom ROMs flowing out for KitKat on the Galaxy Nexus. And it’s not just for the GSM Galaxy Nexus, but also the Verizon (Toro) and Sprint (Toroplus) versions.
It appears that Texas Instruments have updated the GPU binaries for the Galaxy Nexus. Now, Google may not have known that TI was going to update it or Google may not have told TI that they had given up on the two-year old device. But either way, developers are hard at work building an updated kernel that might help solve some of the graphical issues with KitKat on the Galaxy Nexus.
If you’re one of those many people out there still rocking the Galaxy Nexus, and not wanting to give it up just yet. It looks like you might get Christmas a bit early. As the new GPU binaries should definitely help out the Galaxy Nexus. Although, if you’ve held onto it this long, you’re probably due for an upgrade, since the device was released in November 2011. Hopefully this will help people get a long a bit more until the device finally chokes.
This is another reason why we love the developer community around Android. You won’t find a developer community like this behind the iPhone or anything iOS related. Back before I started here at AH, I had a couple of devices in which the manufacturer had given up on the device, but developers had continued to support it for years. Which was quite nice.
Is it real? It would be a big deal !
Do any ROM developers confirm it yet?

sounds interesting.. Whata you think?
I think that if it screws up things as badly as Kit-Kat did, I may have to go look at an (grits teeth) iPhone.
the link and the article says nexus 4,5,7 while your title includes gnex as well.
I highly doubt that a phone nearly three years old that didn't receive the last android increment would get a new one. We'll definitely see ports of the Nexus 4's ROMs to gnex, just like 4.4, but no official support.
Wait Nexus 10 will receive Android l but the gnex wont? Weird, the nexus 10 is too old for support too..

The problem is not how old it is. The problem is that T.I. won't release the source code and so gnex can't be supported.

TI is not the problem, it's well documented and open sourced... The problem is the GPU vendor Imagination Technologies that won't release the source for it's PowerVR drivers even though the GPU is so old and obsolete... TI wanted to make IT release the source when TI released the kernel source, but IT backed out at the last moment. If that had happened, we would have a completely open source device, a dream for every developer. Oh well...
...well, at least here: http://www.google.com/mobile/

Nothing special, but it's funny how we are close to the third GNex successor and they still won't update such an important web page.

I'd be happy if that is the case, the phone still works great. With the main ShinyROM developer starting to concentrate on other life tasks, hoping that OmniROM or Paranoid Android continue to carry the GNex flag.
