OTA possible for unlocked bootloader, unrooted Galaxy Nexus? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
I am sure this must have been answered somewhere but I am not able to find a specific answer.
I have unlocked my bootloader to move my Nexus from yakjuxw to takju. I have not rooted it though.
In cases like these, will these devices receive 4.3 OTA?
Thanks for your help...

You're not able to receive the last update 4.3 , if your device is in yakjuxw , before you must change your firmware from yakjuxw ( samsung firmware ) to takju ( google exp firmware ) , flash 4.2.2 takju firmware , there are a lot of guides in this forum. :good:

I think you have not read my question properly.
I am already on takju 4.2.2
My phone has unlocked bootloader. But it is not unrooted device.
My question is - will I receive 4.3 OTA for my device?
Anyway thanks for taking out time to respond.

If you haven't tinkered with any of the system files, you will receive the OTA upate and will be able to flash it. My device is a Canadian Nexus, which I promptly unlocked the bootloader and flashed to Takju. It did receive the OTA updates.
LaterZ!

Great! Thanks...

[Q] When switching to Yakju..

I'm aware of the tutorial regarding how it's done, so I'm not asking that. My question is that if by chance I experience the roaming problems and have to root/unlock bootloader to repair, using the guides to relock and unroot.. will I still be able to keep Yakju at 4.0.2 and receive future OTA updates?
The reason I bought this phone was to avoid rooting and unlocking altogether, but this Yakjuux nonsense is really irritating especially since I'm waiting on updates that have absolutely no timeline of being released for GSM/Yakjuux builds.
tl;dr
If I root and unlock bootloader to switch to Yakju, will relocking and unrooting take away my Yakju status/4.0.2?

My issue isn't just with the OTAs, I simply don't want to be unlocked or rooted. But like I said, I'm sick of waiting for a 4.0.1 volume fix, and 4.0.2.. when everyone else is already using them months prior.
If I can clarify,
I want to be back to completely stock, unrooted, relocked bootloader, but on 4.0.2 Yakju. Is this possible?

yes, if you flash the stock images from google for 4.0.2 then you will be stock 4.0.2 (yakju) that is what you are looking for right?
so flash the images and relock the bootloader
Like I said, when it comes to ota's, stock is stock. it doesn't matter if your phone is rooted or unlocked

Oh okay, so I can flash the stock image for Yakju through Google's image page for GSM, then relock the bootloader, Ill be okay? And my warranty will be intact?
Just to shed some light, I used the Galaxy Nexus toolkit from another thread, unlocked bootloader, flashed Yakju, and relocked bootloader all within 10 minutes with completely painless execution (after struggling getting the proper drivers installed. Fyi, used the pdanet drivers.) Anyone reading this topic, there's NOTHING to be concerned about when doing this, just make sure you do it right.

You don't have to root. Just unlock the bootloader to push the radio file to your phone.
If you're on 4.0.1 then flash/update to 4.0.2, you'll loose any existing root you had on your phone.

[Q] 4.0.4 on yakjuxw version

Hy,
I saw that the manual version is for yakju version and to convert to it I must do a sequence of flashes.
Is this the only way to update my 4.0.2 to 4.0.4? (convert to yakju and install the manual update)
you have to convert your yakjuw to a yakju.
It's easy but will erase your phone so make a backup first, but when you are on yakju you will never have any problems with updates anymore so i say go for it. I did it last night
I converted from YAKJUxx to YAKJU before christmas to get the previous 4.0.2 update, and it worked like a charm. I'm eagerly awaiting my notification for the 4.0.4
Btw, there is a guide for how to change to YAKJU in my sig if you need it.

Not anymore. They have full 4.0.4 yakju images out. You can flash these all to be on "yakju" now. No need to convert to yakju 4.0.2 and update. Just go straight to 4.0.4.

[Q] Am i cheated? Pls Help.....

Hi, this is my galaxy nexus version :
Android version
4.0.2
Baseband version
I9250XXKK6
Kernel Version
3.0.8-gaaa2611
[email protected]#1
Build number
ICL53F.I9250ZSKL2
When i start Recovery mode :
Fastboot Mode
Product Name : Tuna
Variant : Maguro
HW Version : 9
Bootloader Version : PRIMEKK15
BaseBand Version : I9250XXKK6
Carrier Info : None
Serial Number : 0146A0D002010015
Signing : Production
Lock State : Locked
Few Questions :
1) Before i bought this phone i was told it is factory unlocked. Am i cheated?
2) I hope this phone is GSM as i am using GSM Network sim. If that is the case why havent i received OTA Update to 4.0.4?
3) Updates are from Google or Samsung?
4) What build am i using?
5) If i manually flash to other build now, do i start / continue receiving OTA Updates when available?
Thanks in advance and sorry if some pro feels these questions are stupid.
Everything its ok with your phone... Unlocked means you are free to use any carriers..
You have yakjuzs versión and i dont know if it had received OTA yet
As far as you dont change a single file from factory image meaning kernel/bootloader /baseband /system apks. You are ok to receive OTAs if you manually flash stock 4.0.4 IMM76i

Where did you get your phone? Play store? Somewhere else? How long have you had it? You should be able to tell right off if your sim is working because of whether or not you have service.
I'll try to ease your mind. First off, if you root and flash roms, you will be a me to update whenever you want because as soon as the ota is available (most times before they are even deployed) it will be posted here and on rootz and numerous other places. To sum it up... root and enjoy arguably the best overall android device available.

No, that means the bootloader its locked, and i really encourage you to unlock it so you can root the phone when needed, and you wont have the problem of backing up your data and apks with a locked bootloader /non rooted phone

Using it since 2 days and carrier service seems to be ok, but recovery mode shows "Lock State : Locked". Why???
Since it is GSM I should have received OTA 4.0.4 by now but havent received still on 4.0.2.....why???

Edit: you havent received OTA cuz you havent received OTA theres not a fixed time for it.. It can take from 1 day to several months...

All phones, including android and apple phones, come in this locked state. You can still use the phone on any network, but you can't change the ROM or kernel. To put in custom kernels and ROMs, you unlock this part of the phone. I would read up more on this before you decide to unlock it. You may decide that you do not want the phone unlocked.
If you want to flash yakju or takju, see here.

There is a difference between having a locked bootloader and being SIM-locked to a network. The former means that you cannot use fastboot commands, the latter means that you can only use one carriers SIM card. Your device has a locked bootloader, but it is SIM unlocked.

Yes, it is a GSM device. As was mentioned, updates can take anywhere from minutes to months after the first person receives it, before you get it. Given that you are running a yakjuzs build, the update has started rolling out. So, you can either: 1) wait until you get it; 2) flash it yourself by following the steps here; or 3) flash one of the Google builds (yakju or takju), as posted by msedek in the post above.

So if i follow the steps here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25477039&postcount=1
I will be flash my yakjuzs to yakju ROM with locked bootloader and hence forth all the updates would be from google instead of samsung (Currently).

I agree with what Azlan96 posted. I received the 4.0.4 update last week and to add insult to injury, when you look at the Kernal Version in the Settings/About phone screen, it shows that the kernel was available in MARCH! Why did it take so long for Samsung to get it to us?!
I like others purchased this phone off of a dailysteals sale earlier in the year and also have a yakjuxw device. I couldn't stomach the fact that we have Google's flagship phone, but are kept under hostage by Samsung. Yesterday I unlocked the bootloader using the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit by following the steps in this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310) and flashed the stock yakju image.
I'm a n00b at this stuff but Mark Skippen did an excellent job creating that toolkit and making it easy for anyone to do it. I had the bootloader unlocked in 20 minutes (the majority of the time is downloading the image files) and received the 4.1.1 OTA once I logged back into my google account.
My device is now converted to the google yakju version and on jelly bean. I also have the peace of mind that future updates will be coming from google, and not Samsung.
I also converted to yakju from yakjuxw here on my australian galaxy nexus ,best decision I ever made an now i'm on official 4.1.1 jellybean an will always get updates as soon as google releases them, its as easy as unlocking boot loader an flashing stock yakju.Don't listen to stupid carriers like vodafone telling you bs excuses as to why you have to wait for updates because they don't have a clue, their customer support don't know the first thing about android an how it works.

My Nexus had originally "Yakjuxw" 4.0.1 - 4.0.2 and I didn't want to use anymore the 4.0.2 so I flashed other bootloader + radio baseband and then Jelly Bean 4.1 "takju" which updated to 4.1.1 and I'm happy with it.. (then yakjuxw got the 4.0.4 update)
Takju is much better than yakju and yakjuxw builds.. :d

Converting your phone will certainly wipe ALL your device (including internal memory), so make a backup. You only need how to enter fastboot mode (turn it on while pressing Vol up + Vol Down). Follow these steps:
1. Dowload the toolkit that's in sticky in the Android Dev section. Install the drivers there (option 1).
2. Unlock the bootloader. (option 3 I believe).
3. Enter the section to download factory google images. Download YAKJU or TAKJU 4.0.4 (the latter if you want google wallet).
4. Flash that image you downloaded.
5. Reboot and wait for OTA.
If you don't want to wait, you can download the OTA zip file, place it in the internal memory and use the toolkit to boot in CWM and flash it from there.
Cheers!

According to the options available in the GN toolkit, my phone's build (IMM76K) is in the section CDMA / LTE (MYSID / TORO). How is this possible, my buildinfos reports that the hardware is a maguro, but my phone build's is in the "mysid section" (GN toolkit)?
I do not know what to do. I want to upgrade my phone to YAKJU, but YAKJU is in "section GSM (maguro)" and my phone's build is CDMA / LTE (mysid).
Can anyone help me?

[Q] I have my phoen flashed to YAKJU, why am I not getting update?

I flashed my phone to YAKJU for the sole purpose of getting faster updates (directly from google), but I didnt get them. does that mean I not have to manually flash every update?
What version number are you running then?

Be patient. Not everyone gets the update at the same time. It might take a few days before you get it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
when did you flash yakju and what updates haven't you gotten?
Probably 4.1.1 since there is no yakju for 4.1.2
Beamed from my Grouper.
wait so all that work I did was only flashing 4.1.1? will there be a yakju for 4.1.2?

No never. Not for you at least. Google has a whiner blacklist and you are on it.
Seriously, there is no OTA out yet for ANY Galaxy Nexus variant. The only 4.1.2 ROM out yet is the factory image for "takju". Flash it if you can't wait or be patient for a few days.

You didn't notice during all your work what the version number was you where flashing? It says it clearly right on the factory image page.

Judging from all his replies, he flashed Yakju 4.1.1
Yeah. What I don't get is how he doesn't know what he flashed.
You should always know what files you're flashing to your phone. So you don't break your phone

Flashed to Yakju, but unable to update to android 4.1
My device is a Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250 and I was on 4.0.4. I flashed to yakju (had the samsung variant for Middle East earlier) based on the instructions in androidforums (instructions here were difficult for me to follow), so that I'd get updates directly from google. Can't provide the androidforums link since I am a new member (WTF is that, really??).
As directed in the link, I downloaded samsung drivers and firmware, installed the drivers and then used the firmware to flash 4.0.1. The method did not root my device (double-checked that using the root checker app).
It updated to 4.0.2 through wi-fi. After that, it was not updating to 4.0.4 through wi-fi, but updated instantly as soon as I switched to my mobile network, and I have no idea why that happened. I am in UAE, and my carrier is Etisalat, FWIW.
Anyhow, now I'm not getting the 4.1 update either through wi-fi or mobile. When I click on system update, it shows that the update is downloading, and nothing downloads eventually and I get a message intimating me that the download has failed and that I can retry the download.
I have tried the usual trick: clearing google services framework cache and then restarting the phone, hasn't worked.
Can someone help please? I'm closer to a noob than a geek, as you would've figured out by now. So do bear in mind that I need detailed instructions..
Thanks in advance.
