Hey everyone, if you've updated to 4.3 go into the Phone app, settings. You can now enable dial pad auto-complete.
It will auto-complete both phone numbers and names (T9-style). So if you want to call Anna and you enter 2662, Anna's number will appear as an auto-complete option.
Nifty!
Nice to see more cyanogenmod features coming to aosp.

Haha yes. It's a very nice unobtrusive implementation.
I think there may have been patent issues preventing them before, but they found a way around.

CM is awesome. Everybody knows that.
Honestly, on this one, it's about time. This is a simple feature I've been missing, and the only conclusion I could come to is that someone held a patent for it and that's why it wasn't here. It's in Windows Mobile (earliest version I ever used), and most other platforms, including feature phones. This one excites me, but it's still about time.
(That said, I'm thankful to no longer use a 3rd party dialer to accomplish this).

This is not cyanogenmod feature, this feature is from old WinMo OS called Smart dialing

nice function. Just one question:
The auto-complete only shows three best matching names. What if you have more than three Annas (following your example)? Can't find any way to select other than first three contacts showing (as you can do in any custom ROM)...
Thank you.

You don't need more than three friends with the same name!
I appreciate having this in the stock dialer, since every dialer replacement I've ever tried had serious lag to it. If this was the first appearance of such a feature on any OS I would say it was GREAT, but this feature has existed elsewhere for YEARS, and the other implementations I've seen make this look amateurish at best. Come on Google! Really? A list of up to 3 people, and no way to select which number to use for the selected contact?
Very nice to finally see it here. One of the things I've been missing. And I love the implementation of it. I'm very glad Google took the time to actually refine Android and polish it instead of rushing out with a bunch of crazy features and introducing more bugs on top of the ones that were already there for some people.

Long-press on the contact and you can do just that (and set a number as default!)
I actually don't mind only having 3 choices - look up last names or first and last initial and this should never really be a problem. I really like the animations when the choices fly around and wish the keyboard would do that with suggestions as you typed. Some consistency across the OS is nice

What if i got 5 friends named ANNA with no middle/last names and i only distinguish them thru their contact photos? The phone's features should be designed according to how people want to use them, not forcing people to use them the way the developers want them to (apple-ish). Nonetheless, still a good feature and yeah, nice animations too :good:

I think that the multiuser feature should be made to work on mobile phones. However, using it actually was multiuser would be ridiculous butit could be implemented as a "Phone mode" feature. You could have a "Work" mode with business apps and stuff, and also the "Home" mode, which you would put more fun things with. It would be kinda nice to have a way not having everything jumbled together.

Yes I am quite aware that it's a bb10 feature. I just think that they (Google) should have thought more about the idea and put it on the phones. I think the ROM developers will do it because cm10 has profiles and they would eventually change the original profile feature with what I'm saying. Maybe when they make a 4.2 ROM. I hope someone at Google reads the thread sometime.
I'll have to check on that.

Then you are holding it wrong! LOL I have tried a lot of these voice command assistants, from the S-voice from Samsung to Dragon beta, IRIS, Maanuba, vlingo, and your speaktoit; you name it, I may have tried it. None of them comes close to utter. Which of the other apps can take a verbal instruction to take a freakin screenshot or change the governors on your phone?? None that I have personally come across.
And to boot, this app comes from an XDA member. Who doesn't love that? I'm going to throw money at him as soon as he is able to. There's a lot of work that went in to it and ben(the dev), IMO deserves some fundage. :good:

Reboot, set kernel, and a few other things require it.
but you do not have to be rooted to use Utter, and its not doing anything dodgy that you need to worry about, its just so that you can get Utter to do certain things which need root access, if you dont do those things, it doesnt need root access.

Contextual Awareness
(1) Page Buddy: Your phone will smartly predict what you intend to do according to your actions. For example, when you plug in your earphones, the device automatically opens up a page with the music player.
(2) Contextual Menu: When you list up apps, you can now choose to see the most frequently used ones first. Especially convenient when you’re looking through apps to find files to attach.
(3) Contextual Tag: When you take a picture on the phone, you can tag the weather, date, and place immediately.
*Enhanced Features*
(1) Multi Window: You can open two different apps at the same time into two different windows on the mobile screen.
(2) Auto Share Shot Pairing using NFC: By setting the camera to ‘Auto Share Shot’ mode, you can quickly share your photos and videos by simply tapping their GALAXY S III with other NFC and S-Beam enabled devices
(3) Reader Mode: You can easily control the size of the text on your browser! Also, you can just click the webpage to share it!
(4) Facebook Lock Ticker: The easiest way to see your Facebook News Feeds – set your phone to show it on your lock screen.

MULTIMEDIA
Paper Artist: You can make a picture like a pop artist. Change the moods of your pictures whenever you want.
Low Light Shot: It’s always tough to take pictures in dark places. So the Galaxy S III with Premium Suite has a Low-Light-Shot function.*Get your hands on one and check out the difference!
Best Face: The problem with group pictures? Somebody always, ALWAYS blinks. Well, Best Face is your solution to that. Best Face takes 5 consecutive pictures and lets you choose the best face for each person among those shots.
NEW FEATURES AND BETTER ACCESSIBILITY
Easy Mode: For first-time smartphone users and/or those who are really really, well, lazy. This function helps you set up the most five frequently used widgets on the home screen, so you don’t have to be tired of looking everywhere to find those apps.
Sound Balance: You can adjust the balance of volume one each side of earphones.
Setup Wizard: After turning on your cell phone, you can see the accessibility menu right away on the screen.
Easy Snap: With ‘talk back’ and ‘face detection’ on your settings menu, the Galaxy S III tells you how many faces it can detect on the camera preview.

The devs here can pull the apks and modify the framework for their ROMs to make it work.
It has always been a preference of mine to have a full screen image when calling someone. Rewind back some years, I believe maybe the Hyperdrive ROMs time period and this was the norm. I believe it's similar to what appears on iPhone during a call. Basically the full screen background is the contact pic of the person you are talking with. There was a mod available on XDA for my Note 8 I believe which dropped off with an OS update to Android 9 or so. I never have understood why Samsung keeps the contact pic so small, even when the sizes of the phones increased. Now, with the latest Android 11 and Samsung UI 3.0 update, there is an option to make a pic or video the background when making calls. So while this is heading the right direction, it's still not exactly there.
Anyone in the themeing world have any insight into this, as far as the capability to provide a full screen in call caller ID image as the background?

I was told by a couple developers that it wasnt possible after the Note 8 got updated, and moving forward. At least based off of the old method that was floating around for the Note 8. I feel like its setup at this point based off of the ability to add an image or video to the call screen. Just need some experienced help!

Looked in the XDA thread and didn't see anything regarding call recording for the Note 20 ultra. Does this feature work on U or U1 note ultra devices?

No root here. I've been using True Phone since about the time I made this post.
