You phone is S-OFF.....meaning you don't have to unlock the bootloader and such,if you want to root....search for Doomlord's easy rooting toolkit on XDA
If you want to use custom roms, you will need to flash a custom recovery.....the easiest way is to use this

[Q] Anyway to root 4.0.A[...] with locked BL?

I saw a few posts with solutions how to root newest FW (autoroot, root using recovery) but I don't have unlocked BL and I can't unlock it because my phone doesn't fastboot.
So is there a tricky way (I know how to use ADB so I won't have a problem with it if there's a solution using it) how to root newest fw for those with locked BL?
Please, don't offtop if you don't have nothing smart to say.

Yeah but what if we don't want to unlock the bootloader...flashing won't work cuz the update isn't OTA. What is this Recovery mode everyone is talking about?
I don't think you can flash a firmware through recovery AKA clockwork mod
To use recovery aka clock work mod you need to use fastboot to boot recovery play IMG, and flash a custom ROM like Dalvik2Cache
Sent from my Xperia PLAY R800i using XDA App

Only way to get root with locked bootloader is by ota if available.
With unlocked bootlaoder you can do by several ways, for example flash pre-rooted DoomLord's kernel.
Thanks for every reply. I don't need root for now, I just wanted to ask if it's possible
BTW newest FW is awesome

Yes you can simple re-flash to 2.3.2 root with gingerbreak and do an OTA update and you'll keep your root running 2.3.3 gingerbread rooted 4.0.A.2.368 R00i with locked bootloader...
You can use the new zergrush exploit, I heard that it works on 2.3.3

all you need to do is goto htc's dev site for unlocking http://www.htcdev.com/
no other steps are necessary if all you want is an unlocked device to allow apps root access... i think this is what you are asking

Wrong ! Unlocking the bootloader will not give you root acces .... Like guich said, unlock , flash a custom recovery , and push the superuser.zip to gain root acces .
This is the second post this morning i read from you where you give incorrect/strange advice ! Please stop that and search for the right answer first yourself
Thank you !

Dude,
Most Xperia S custom roms for unlocked bootloader come with root and a custom kernel.
If you want to remove the root you would have to flash a stock rom using flashtool or relock the bootloader and then flash the stock rom using either PC companion or Seus.
To be honest I don't understand why your friend would want to run an unrooted custom Rom.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Rooting

Hello.
At the moment I am using stock lollipop .270.
How do I root it in order to backup the TA partition ?
Probably you have to flash KK v108 with Flashtool, root that and flash an already rooted+recovery 270 that are in the general section of the forum.
Or check around general forum if you can root without going back (been out of the loop with rooting procedures). Something like this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3140241
So if I use Flashtool I guess I have to onlock bootloader. Wouldn't that destroy the TA partition ? I want to backup it before I begin modifing anything.

I rooted just a few days ago while on the 270 uk firmware. Unlock bootloader first then i auto rooted with chinese Kingroot app http://androidxda.com/download-kingroot-application . After this i follwed ( http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2015/05/How-to-Remove-Replace-KingUser-KingRoot-with-SuperSU.html ) this guide to remove kingroot and install super su. After this i used ( http://nut.xperia-files.com/ ) Th locked dual recovery from here which installed the recovery to the phone. Next step is here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952609257 . Once you flash this prerooted firmware you are fully rooted. good luck i hope this isnt too confusing.
Note iff you do not unlock bootloader the kingroot app will not be able to root the phone. bootloader unlock is the first step.

For flashing a ftf via flashtool, You don't need to unlock bootloader. You could also try the link from My signature to root, it worked fine for Me on locked bootloader.
