Many people complained(not on this forum) that the screen's contrast is a little washed out. Also, many people reported that the screen max brightness is not as high as it should be.
If there are people that upgraded from an htc one x or had it before buying the g pro,can you tell me if the screen is really that much better in terms of contrast and brightness than the one on the one x?Also, does the screen on the e985 version have any kind of protection?
I came from the Optimus G E970 and still prefer that screen in the daylight. Getting a clear screen protector versus an anti glare is helpful.

I know that optimus g e970 does better in sunlight conditions, however i'm asking if the g pro's brightness is really top notch as lg said it would be and if it has gorilla glass or not.
Also, can someone tell me how much RAM is available out of its 2gigs(for example the s4 has around 1.75)?
Coming from an HTC One X+, I would say the OG Pro's screen is in every way inferior, save for the resolution.
On it's own, the OG Pro's screen is just fine, but next to the One X+, the screen isn't as bright and not as colorful. Viewing angles on OG Pro is bad.

Primarily because the 1X+ has touch screen issues, I'm not entirely sure if that was hardware or software but I suspect it's the former. Also installed an early release of CM10.1 and that gave me more headaches.
I am undecided if I should keep the E980 due to the poor quality screen.

I just got mine yesterday and I have mad ghosting (usually from the keyboard). I was at the at&t store yesterday and the screen in the display GS3 looked nicer. I don't have any banding issues. The color temperature is closer to that of my Lumia 800 (slightly yellow whites, very vibrant blues) than my finally retired Nexus One (first gen AMOLED, very high K whites, almost blue, washed out reds).
Where can I check the serial number?

Hard to draw a conclusion
We have 4 Gnexes, and two of them have gone back to Samsung for new screens, so I guess we've had 6 screens all told. I don't think I can draw a conclusion based on build date...
My son has the oldest of the 4, and his screen is nice.
Mine is the next oldest, and the screen was good from day-1, and the newly installed (dropped it) screen is really good.
My daughter's is 2nd newest, and her screen is OK, but not as good as mine. Hers got a new screen before my wife got her phone, and that one is OK, too.
My wife's phone is the newest (march or April?) (with the exception of my replaced screen), and has looked dreadful the whole time, but she doesn't seem to mind it.
My phone is 3 weeks old now. I have no 'grainy' things going on. I do have banding with the color 'grey'. I tested it with the app called 'LCD TEST' free from Google Play. I tested every color and I only got banding with the color 'grey'. The rest looks ridicilously good!
I do have to say that my Old Omnia II with an Amoled screen was good. I could see the pixels easily. (3.7", 800x480)
I can also see the pixels on my Galaxy NEXUS with ease. But these pixels are way smaller but still noticeable. Because of that the screen does not look as sharp as I thought it'd be. But still it looks WAY better than my Omnia II's Amoled screen. Also blows the Galaxy S' screen away (which I've compared my Galaxy NEXUS to)
So it seems the screens issues are really just a hit and miss. I wish they would use the same screen tech they use in the S3 :/ I'm missing jelly bean but I don't want to go from a better screen to one with problems ...decisions decisions lol

I received my Nexus on July 6th from the playstore. The screen looks fantastic to me. Blacks are black, as for whites I'm not sure what grainy is really supposed to mean. I don't think there's any graininess.
It's as if the colors and the screen pops more up while ours looks great but not as popped up and more in depth and concave sort of way. As if there is a grainy screen that's all like gauss covering the screen. Why did they opt for a cheaper crappier screen on the GNex?

Yes, the SGS3's screen is also pentile, note the lack of plus at the end of Super AMOLED HD.
Different colour profile, different Q/A requirements (Have you noticed that there is very little black in touchwizz UX, maybe to avoid the low brightness blacks become purple issue).
Tweaks made to the panels and manufacturing process after doing them in blunk for the gnexus?
All of the above?
Your guess is as good as mine

Anyway, I have had my phone next to my friends S3 and with the color tweaks on the GNEX I did not notice any difference. Stock GNEX screen, sure it looks horrible. My GNEX looks 10x better then any stock GNEX screen as well.
I would say quality control. Samsung took the time to perfect the S3's colors. I love my screen and it's vibrant and all that. Granted I've never compared the two.

Agreed.
Believe it or not there is a point where too much saturation is bad. It starts to look entirely unnatural. I'm happy where the saturation levels are at with my Nexus currently, still more vibrant than any LCD screen, but not to the point where everything looks like someone took the saturation dial and cranked it to max.

Gotta say after playing with one first hand...im SUPER dissapointed with the camera. Im an android faithful through and through, but I compared the pictures side by side with an iphone 4s and wow what a difference. you can zoom in so much farther and the pictures are so much clearer on the 4s. I was freaked out by this because they touted the 13MP camera, and it just doesnt deliver. It honestly looks more akin to my galaxy nexus camera quality wise. Just thought I would weigh in on my experience.
this along with the locked bootloader unfortunately might push me away from this phone.

I'm coming from a G2X, and I've owned a GS3 while I was using Sprint, but am about to pick up a GS2, and I have a couple of questions. The GS2 states that it only has 206dpi on a 4.52 super amoled plus screen, which the G2X has ~233dpi on a 4" LCD, and the GS3 having ~306dpi on a 4.8" super amoled plus screen.
Why is the dpi count so low on the GS2? Is there a set of sub pixels, does the G2X have sub pixels? I would just be really disappointed if my 2 year old G2X looks better than the GS2, is that the case?

They both have 480*800 resolutions. The g2x has a smaller display so there are more pixels in every squared inch.
That's why, for example, the iPhone has a high PPI even though the resolution is not even HD. It's smaller than most android phones.

So I sold my S3 (which I really regret) in anticipation for the N4. I couldn't get one on launch and theyve been sold out in the UK play store ever since.
I'm kind of glad I didn't get one now. I was always concerned about teething issues and 16gb bothered me.
Today I decided to get a GN off eBay as a stop gap. Besides the camera, it is a wonderful device. I like the build and I love the pure black front. I'm also a sucker for amoled screens. I've used my brothers one fairly extensively and with 4.2 it seems like a really "complete" device.
My plan is to keep the GN for around 6 months. At that point I'm hoping Google are going to do an N7 and release a 32gb model. Only at that point will I pick an N4 up.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting it, and for the first time since my S1, having a device which I can run 100% working AOSP rooms on.

Cool story
I think you'll really like it. I've had mine for about 3 weeks - got it for a steal on eBay right after the Nexus 4 was announced. When I got it, it looked completely unused.
Anyway, even the camera doesn't bother me. It's as good as any other cell phone camera I've ever used though I suppose it's not the best out there (HTC or Nokia most likely have those). Still what I use my phone camera for is stuff that winds up downsized on Facebook anyway. If I want to take nice photos, that's what my Canon EOS T3 is for.
Yea it is not a bad decision. The camera really does not bother me at all because it actually takes great pictures. Overall it is the software mix with the mp that produce great shots so the 5mp only sounds bad but quality is pretty good imo. The development is amazing as well with all the new 4.2.1 Roms coming out

I think I've made a good decision for the meantime. I played with stock 4.2 on the gnex and I absolutely loved it. Android has come so far from eclair, which is what I started on.
And I don't care what anyone says about amoled, the pure black with saturated neon blue on the gnex is sexy as hell.

I totally agree. I hear a lot of people *****ing about the displays on this phone, but I have to disagree, especially after a minor color tweak. Punchy colors (but not too punchy), super dark blacks, 320ppi (pentile be damned it still looks great)..I find myself just staring at my home screen sometimes which features a city scape at night recolored with a rainbow like effect, it just really shows all the strengths of this screen.
Certain shades of gray are the weakness, but I rarely encounter them, and the rest of the time it just looks great, so I really don't care.

sell gnex then buy iphone = 1 less fanboi on xda??
I sat a couple of days ago with a N4 in my cart, with a ship date of 1-2 weeks...but something just didn't seem right to me. It was $350 I didn't really have to blow, but I really needed to get something going because my company is kicking everyone off their Verizon corporate plan at the end of the month.
I've been a Galaxy S I (Fascinate) user for the past 2 years, and I wanted to stay with a Galaxy family. I have been researching using a GSM GNex for T-Mobile Prepaid. So, I bailed on the N4, with the hopes that I could find a good deal on a GNex (I knew I could get a "like new" one from Amazon for $300).
Then my Fascinate died. My Galaxy S1 that I've babied and taken such good care of it's whole life....now in a endless bootloop with no USB access whatsoever to flash anything new to it. Oh well, I was going to have to send it back to corporate next week anyway. Still, I haven't been without a mobile for more than a day in a long time.
Somehow luck was on my side. The very next day, a local man posted his "like new in box" GSM Gnex for $200, and I pounced. Met him during his 2nd shift workbreak and bought it immediately. Got it home and shoved my T-Mobile SIM in there, and completed the activation and number port online. Took them about 8 hours (overnight) to port my number from the corporate plan.
I'm thrilled with my decision. I love the look, feel and quality of the GNex..and the step up in speed and smoothness from my Fascinate (that was running CM10 nightlies) is immense! I'll probably end up using this for a year or two and pick up one of the next generation Nexus phones (maybe a Google/Motorola Nexus?), skipping the LG N4.

Really? You think I haven't used a retina iphone? I have, quite a bit. Yeah, it's good, but bleh color and bleh black level, and come on, minuscule in size. Way worth the tradeoff of pentile thanks, especially at these resolutions. I would agree with the old 480x800 pentiles, but 320 ppi is damn small, and the downsides to pentile are hard to see at best. So, in the real world the Nexus screen imo looks much better.
Especially while looking at pictures or watching movies. The GNex is amazing compared to iphone 4's 'it's sharp but meeh'.
