Like the Mophie but with a slot for a micro SD?
I mean if you're going to add that battery and bulk why not use some of that space for a microusd slot?
Imagine that, slip your phone into the case, have extra battery AND a place for your tunes, etc!
Now this is a novel idea

What a great idea! I wonder why this has not been done before? maybe due to the connection being different for power and file transferring?
This should be done though! I am sure it would sell
Not that I have ever seen, that is actually a very cool idea though.
Heck... skip the battery and just have the expansion slot.
I did find this though... It's small enough to not be a burden to carry.
It also seems like they have this for iPhones (like almost everything else) so it can be done.
Honestly Android manufactures (the DROID line to be specific) has tarnished it's reputation by pushing out so many devices within a short period of time that engineers can't possibly keep up because of the radical design changes. It's unfortunate.
Woah. The SD card reader thing looks freakin' awesome! I love that I can put it on my keys! That was my only concern- leaving it my pocket, destined for the laundry. Since that's taken care of, I might actually get one!
So let me bump this.
Is there A case with a build in micro SD slot out there?

Apparently not, anyone think a kickstarter project is in order? :victory:
Could make it quite slim or add a battery pack, whatever. Even dual microSD slots or at least a space or two for spares.
I patentedit as soon as I read the post lol

That sounds really cool, I would definitely buy something like that!

Bump. Does anybody have the funds/contacts to make something like this?
The battery is not a necessity. Something like a protective case (Otterbox), but with an SD card slot.

Okay, sounds dumb, I hate carrying a wallet. Discovered that I can very easily put my debit card behind the back cover of the phone and the case.
Yeah... Basic I know, but perhaps others haven't thought of it.
Very good idea actually.. Are you talking about the gel case?
Have you seen the cases designed for this as well, i saw a few on Ebay that had the debit card slot but they were leather. Pretty cool!
^^ yeah, the black one that was the only option at release.

Unfortunately, there are none like it for the Vibrant as far as from what I can tell by searching.

Just got mine, I just bought the samsung dock, so probably will go caseless, so figured this would come in handy. Ill let you all know after I get it.
Well, its still in rough shape, need to do some sanding etc... but here it is.
It uses two very small screws to charge through the pogo pin connection.
I wanted it originally to be entirely clear, but I messed up with some super glue and made it turn white, so I may paint it. Also thought about embedding an LED and etching a logo into the back to make it "glow"
Anyway, I'll get better pics with some progress soon hopefully

Very cool idea! Good way to easily be able to line up the charging contacts at the very least.
This is awesome! I know a lot of people are using different alternatives for the pogo plunger pins and was curious how yours were working? You said you are using small screws? Do you have any trouble with them scratching the actual pogo connections on the phone? That was my only concern for people that were using things like screws, guitar strings, and nails even.
I would like to see a close up of your contact pins. It does seem like each of us has come up with slightly different methods and materials (other sping pins, guitar string, contact prongs, copper tape, screws, tack pins...)
question : How fast does it charge? I'm scared it might be slower compared to the wall plug
Right now charging via the pogo pins is sensed as USB by the stock ROM and limited to 500 miliamps.
There is a kernel that can be flashed to force full AC charging mode.
We believe this is the issue holding up the aftermarket pogo accesories, as manufacturers dont want their product reputation hurt by charging not keeping up with power use on devices that are actually limited by the software.
Everyone is hoping that the next OTA update will have the fix....

I'll try and get a pic of the screws later tonight after work. I do have a scratch that I suspect is from them, however I'm sure something can easily be changed so that doesn't happen. Unfortunately I dropped my phone last week and chipped the screen, so I'm not worried about a scratch at this point.
If the sharpness of the screws is/was a problem I had planned to just grind them down and make them smooth and rounded, which I'm sure is still a very viable option.
As for the comment on speed, I guess that's already been pretty well answered. I was only going to add that I haven't paid attention, I've just been using this to charge my phone while I sleep.
I also plan to add an nfc tag or something to put the phone into the dock mode and set alarms or whatever.

No really a fair comparison since I work for a plastic manufacturing company . I used a 400 watt laser to cut those parts out. I also have 3 & 5 axis CNC machines. I'm toying with the idea of casting a molded base but need to 3d scan my phone for the proper geometry.
Figured it was lasered or something similar. I only wish I had access to some equipment like that. Cordless dremel just doesn't quite do the job

Hook me up with one! I'd love to have something for my phone like that especially if you get the pins put into there. But if not then at the very least it can do double duty for my tab as well.
Pretty slick looking ideas. I've always thought of making a couple of those for my office, home, and bedside.
I also heard that they have a new kernel that forces Fast Charging regardless of the connection. I know right now I'm running Axi0m Hybrid and it has a status bar toggle for Fast Charge. I haven't tested it out though.

Hey all,
Has anyone seen one of these new fangled cases with card slots for credit or business cards for the 989?
Thanks!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
The 989 has been robbed of cases no novelty cases either ie. gameboy looking or cassette style .. very disappointing...
I bought one of the stick on card holders on amazon and then sanded down the bump on my d3 case... works ok, but it messes with the flash a bit.
I saw someone with this on an iPhone the other day and wondered if they had one for us too. Cool idea.

The lowest I could get the card case without covering the speaker makes it so cards pretty much underline the "8.0" text, which seems fine in theory, but actually reflects a little flash and messes with my photos. If you need to use flash you will have to remove any full cards from the case, but since I rarely use flash this hasn't been a big deal. I suppose I could have just put the pouch off center and put it even lower, but that seems silly. I have been happy with mine.

Hey guys,
I was wondering if it was possible to laminate an NFC card without it getting ruined or it not functioning properly. So any answers would be great!
Thanks so much.
Most of them will survive, up to 5% will be damaged. Most of our customers want our cards laminated and 5% is reasonable.
Good luck

Also do you know where I can get one that is 27mm or less that is durable?

I actually have done this before and have never had a problem. Used to do this for member event entrance to community events I organized.
Rather than getting all cards laminated at a time, i would suggest get only 1 done and then check it, later if that works without any issues then you get the rest done.
Sitcky
Your main issue is going to be heat and rollers. Can you use the sticky kind that you just press together?
i have laminated my nfc tags but if you have the stickers you could even stick them to a plastic sheet and cut them out

Any quality NFC tag can tolerate a lot of heat. It should be very safe to laminate your PVC cards.

Oh I thought you guys were talking about laminating the PVC card. I see what you mean is the chip itself which leaves it without much protection. You can't do this at home but you can buy NFC tags that are already encased in a PVC card. You can only go up to about boiling point before you kill it.

I love the idea, but it seems like there could be too much risk of destroying something valuable with a rare earth magnet attached to my phone. Not the phone itself. But accidentally tossing it in a bag next to a laptop or near credit cards/IDs in a pocket, etc.
Wish they made it with the magnet in het he mount only. Far less like likely to put something valuable next of a dash mounted magnet.

I wouldn't worry about a small magnet wiping a credit card or anything else for that matter. There's really nothing that can be affected by a magnet in a laptop, except for unshielded wires, which shouldn't bother it anyways.

however, the worst thing about this is that it renders the phone's own magnetic sensors useless, mapping applications that depend on it might not work at all or not properly..

Those cons aren't sounding very attractive ...
I do like how it looks on the dash though but I'm hesitant to purchase when it is back in stock.
Guess I'll just hold off and look for a better alternative
I installed my steelie on my uag case. I thought I would remove it more often in order to use with apps such as star mapping or tools using the compass etc. in the end I realized I don't use those kind of apps that much, (well I am using quite often maps, but they work quite alright in most situations). So be aware of these issues but don't let them deterr you from this mount as otherwise it's indeed very functional. you can also try to find a case that is easier to remove perhaps.
