I have the Galaxy Nexus (i9250) running 4.2.2.
Recently whenever I open the camera it says "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped."
I have tried another camera and starting in safe mode. No luck on either count.
The weird thing is, whenever the phone screen is really warm, the camera starts working again.
Help please!
Reflash your ROM, see of it helps

Sounds like hardware issue. I'd flash the factory image and see if it still doesn't work properly. If it doesn't work, you need service. Probably a loose connection on the board.
Same Issue

I am encountering the same issue. I reflashed CM and still getting the error message. I don't think it's a hardware issue if it's suddenly happening to a bunch of phones

Updated to JB 4.1.1 and video camera not working, Gallery Stopped.
Updated to JB 4.1.2 same problem.
My camera and panorama are working fine.
Please help.
Thank you.
I'm having a similar problem.. last night, I attempted to use the TeslaLED widget to aid myself while walking my dog at night. To my chagrin, the light never came on. I wondered if it was the light itself, so I attempted to open the camera to take a picture... it immediately closed and showed "gallery stopped" for an error message. I rebooted the phone hopping that would fix the problem. The problem was still there after booting back up.
I was running a CM10 nightly that I've had for over a month. My Verizon Galaxy Nexus is rooted and unlocked. I attempted to flash a stable CM10, but am still having the same problem. I will attempt to flash stock tonight to see if that fixes it.
Gallery not working
Ever since JB 4.2.1 update...my gallery and camera no longer works! Tried clearing cached, hard reset but no luck. Next step might be to toss it out the window....
Ok, somehow its fixed! I had backed up my gnex via recovery mode before I installed the stable cm10. When that didn't fix my problem, I restored the backup do I didn't have to reconfigure everything again when I flashed stock later yesterday evening. But, to my surprise, restoring the backup fixed the problem!
I too am having an issue w/ my Gnex's camera. The app will open from the gallery, & the camera buttons are at the bottom of the screen, but the screen is black. You can push the button to capture a pic, but nothing happens, you can switch to record video & it locks up & FC's. Every now & then you can open the app directly from the camera widget, but it typically just goes to a black screen w/ the software keys at the bottom faded out & the phone just locks up. I replaced the camera w/ a known working camera from a parts Gnex I have. Same issue. I was running 4.1.2, but I've since upgraded to 4.2.2 hoping there was some sort of software fix. No dice... still doing the same thing. The isn't rooted... but I'm going to root it & throw on another ROM to see if I can get it working somehow... but outside of that, I don't know what else to do. Any new ideas?

Hello Folks
I am new to this website. I have a question. My phone is Rogers Samsung Galaxy S3. I flashed Cm10-20121125-nightly. Everything works fine except camera. When I took picture, My camera froze for a while and then saying that the Gallery not responding, When I close the camera and reopen camera, it says cant connect camera. If i took video or use sphereview, it works fine. Do you guy have any ideas what is going on? This drives me crazy.
Thanks
Please search next time. This has been covered.
What you need to do with the 4.2 camera is focus by touching middle of screen then take pic.

I'm running 10.0.0 stable version and I can't get the camera to focus either. I've tried tapping the screen and the [ ] box lights up but nothing changes.
I should mention I'm on the Sprint U.S. version of the phone. Just thought I'd ask here since this post came up when I started a new post in the Sprint section.
camera issue still unresolved
I've tried a number of things from different threads and nothing seems to help. I'm running CM 10 on AT&T Gs3. After flashing, camera app shows error saying "can not connect to camera". I know this is a common problem, but I cant seem to find a real solution.
I have the same problem with Beanstalk running the 4.3 Jellybean update. Do you have Focal installed on the phone ?
edit : My front camera don't work either, tanking a picture cause the phone to reeboot.
Can it have someting to do with the kernel ?
I am using SlimBean with lean-kernel and I don't have focal, but no reboots with frot facing camera...
Hello,
I've bought a note 2 several months ago, that one got broke. So I've bought a new one. After opening booting it up installing some apps setting the phone up. I started the camera app. I instantly get a message Camera error and then the app FC. So I did a hard reset and that also din't fix the problem. Also tried flashing different stock firmware. Anything that I could try to see if it works? Would hate to see that I can send this phone back cause the camera fails to work :S
I should start off by saying that I hate the stock gallery and camera apps but... I'm stuck there right now because the unofficial CM build has completely broken bluetooth support.
That being said, I'm running into an issue where my gallery crashes every single time I open it up. Anyone perhaps know what might be going on there?

Same problem here. Gallery crashes when I click the share button. Lots of bugs after update to android 4.2. Terrible thing! Thinking about downgrading.
Already did factory reset, solved other bugs but this one still persists
Samsung support told me to go to an authorized samsung service center to fix that. Is that a hardware problem??
I can share files when I search for then in the system files, the share shutdown problem only occurs when in the gallery.
Does someone knowns what do do?
Any tips..Any tips you got?
Hey guys!
So just as the subject reads, the phone from time to time can't connect to my camera and I just get a black screen. Switching between the front and back when this happens triggers the error message and tells me to send a diagnostic report to Google. One of the things I tried was to force close the camera process and still nothing. Only fix is to reboot the phone, but eventually in a day or two the camera will crash again.
Just to rule out any kind of corruption, I wiped the phone to factory settings via recovery and the phone still behaves like this. One of the apps I noticed does not play well with the phone is snapchat (current beta). The app is super laggy and wondering if this could cause the camera overall to eventually crash. Any ideas or thoughts are welcome!
Overall I'm kind if disappointed with the performance of the phone over several days. Upon reboot its quick and over a day or two the phone gets pretty sluggish, even locking up at times for a few seconds without being able to do anything. Sometimes exiting an app and going to the main screen takes a solid 5 to 10 seconds.
Yeah the camera app is very, very bugging. Really hoping there'll be an update that fixes the problems with that and 3rd party cameras.

I though I was the only one, the camera takes forever to open and bogs the whole system down, I just the l got the security updates and no camera bugs were addressed

Actually that's exactly the way my Nexus 4 behaved, which was the main reason I had to replace it now. Hope 5X won't do that, or I'd be pretty pissed off. I thought it was a hardware issue, but now according to what you write I suspect this might relate to some application installed.
I'll add myself to the list. Sometimes It doesn't even make picture, just get stuck and does nothing for a while, then for whatever reason it start shooting a sequence of pointless picture. Many times it take 2 pics in a row, like a not asked, not wanted crappy pointless multishot
Camera was completely fine for me until I got an OTA update 2 days ago and now its completely dog ****. Freezes for a while when I open the app, and crashes if I turn the phone to landscape.
I just rooted my phone and camera stopped working. Reset to default did nothing.
I'm on B29K. Do I need to downgrade?

How exactly did you root? And if you flashed a modified boot.img, which one fid you flash? Also, what does "reset to default" mean? Does this mean that you flashed the factory image for MMB29K?
