I have the Verizon charging pad and the Samsung wireless charging battery cover and they work great, however, what if I plugged the phone in to the USB charging cable AND placed the phone on the wireless charger? Would it heat up? Charge faster?
Thanks,
it will disable the wireless or the USB charging. i don't recall which.

Guys, I have my normal charger at home which works fine. Here at work I have a fairly new (but cheap) USB cable. At work the charge never goes up, it stays at the same percentage all day. It charged my Optimus 3D fine.
If I swap it for a colleagues USB cable (came with his Windows Phone) it charges fine (same USB port or USB ac adapter).
Is there a certain type of Micro USB cable I should be looking for that's not stupidly priced? (in the UK)
Coming from an Iphone I didn't have any spare micro USB cables so I went to a computer store and bought 3 store brand (cheap) microUSB cables and they all work fine.
The only thing to take note of is some wall charges are seen by the phone as "USB" and not "AC Charger" and thus will only pull in 500mah which is pretty slow. If you install battery monitor widget by 3C it will tell you the amperage coming in and if the phone sees your connection as USB or AC.
I discovered my 1amp apple USB brick does not charge higher than 500mah only my samsung one does that came with the phone.

yeah, but if I use the same USB port or the same AC plug I don't understand why 1 cable will charge fine, the other gives just enough to keep it at the same percentage all day?
i just got a New Trent IMP1000 external charging battery that chargers anything with a USB but when i connected the samsung wire that came with my Galaxy Nexus into the New Trent it charged really really slow compared to putting the wire into the samsung block that goes into the wall.. I thought the problem was with the New Trent since it is only an external battery charger but when i used the USB they provided (which i thought was crap) it charged literally 100x faster than the official samsung usb wire into the New Trent.. WHY!? why does the New Trent USB Wire charge faster than the Samsung USB into the New Trent but they charge at the same rate if the Samsung USB wire is plugged into the Samsung wall block. i know this post sounds confusing but if you get it im just wondering why lol
With the Samsung USB wire you will probably only get your phone to charge with USB amps (check in About phone/Status). The other cable is probably wired to tell the phone it's a wall charger and thus will give you more amps.
If your phone says Charging (USB) you are limited to 500mA charging current, and if your phone says Charging (AC) it is limited to 1000mA current.
So I got one of those cheap car chargers for phones recently and I realized that plugging it in with fast charged enabled would help me keep the charge up while GPS is draining away. My question is though, how do I know whether or not it is safe to? I really don't want to shorten the life of my battery or damage any components permanently.
The specs of the charger are as follows:
Input: DC 12v-24v
Output: DC 5.0v +/- 5%
Max: 1000mA
Fast charge only applies when it is connected to a computer.
That charger is perfectly fine in terms of the rated output you list. Dont worry, 1A is fine. As long as it its not so cheap that it fry's for some other reason lol.
Ah okay, thanks.
And is it really when its connected to a computer only? Just want this clarified

Fast charge works when it shows charging as USB, there are plenty of cheap car chargers that don't charge as AC and thus would benefit from fast charging

Car chargers don't connect as data transfer.
Fast charge turns off data transfer and makes the phone think the laptop is AC.
USB charging will only show (should only show) when it is connected in data mode. (Mtp)

If the cable has the data connectors it will charge as USB I have multiple off brand car chargers that do NOT charge as AC
My car charger appears as AC because its a 1.2 amp charger so gives the full 1 amp output. I believe usb is detected only when connected at 0.5 amp which is why many car chargers show as usb. At least this is how the n1 works. It detects either 500 or 100 mA for either usb or ac.
Hi all,
I'm running into a strange issue with my Z1 Compact. I've just bought an Anker 40w 5-port USB charger, and when I connect it to my Z1c with the magnetic cable, it charges fine and everything is OK. However, if I connect it using a standard micro USB cable, it discharges at a rate of around 800ma instead of charging.
It's not just the Anker charger - I had a similar issue with an Arctic 4-port charger I was using previously. When I connect to the stock charger with micro USB, everything is fine and the phone charges normally. I'm running the latest build of SlimKat (it was happening with previous versions as well as on CyanogenMod) with unlocked bootloader.
Is the stock Sony charger different to regular USB chargers in terms of internal connections? I can't figure out why else this would be happening.
Stock charger has 1,5A and when you charge phone and at the same time you use it wont discharge. But if you have charger with max 1A or even less your phone would discharge while havy using
That's the thing though - the Arctic charger is rated for up to 2A per port, whilst the Anker is rated up to 2.4A per port, so it shouldn't be that.
Also, if I'm just using the phone normally whilst not plugged in, I might get a current drain of around 450mA from the battery. But if I plug it into one of these chargers over micro USB, the drain will be around 800mA to 1100mA. So it's not that the phone is using more current than the charger can provide; the charger is apparently actively discharging the phone.
I'm using Battery Monitor Widget Pro to check on all this. When I connect to the 3rd party chargers the mV and mAh flicker and jump about, but are steady over the magnetic cable or over micro USB on the OEM charger. Not sure what this signifies, if anything...
If you need a USB C vehicle fast charger, fast charge battery pack and fast wireless charger, this bundle from Verizon is $99 and comes in 3 choices of colors for the fast wireless charging stand:

I bought this and the fast charge battery pack is very nice. It comes with a cable that has a micro USB plug and a USB C adapter that is hooked onto the cable by a loop so you can charge both micro USB and USB C devices. The color reminds me of the orchid gray S8, it's very premium looking and feeling. It has pass through charging too so you can both charge a device and the battery pack at the same time.
The fast wireless charging stand is great, it has a fan in it to help to dissipate heat.
The fast charge USB C vehicle charger has a coiled cable, which I really like for storing in my console, but I wish it came with a USB C to micro USB adapter so that it could be used to charge both types of device. You can buy USB C to micro USB adapters on amazon and ebay.

I thought only the new charging stand would really fast charge the s8? At least my flat Samsung wireless charger charges but seems at regular speed. Had to order the new one with leather smd an actual c type cable(not adapter).
