Hi, I've got a Desire HD phone which I got unlocked and unbranded from the start and it came with some version of Froyo out of the box. Since then I've updated it through via wifi and currently it's on GB 2.3.5 and after the last update the phone has been telling me that it has no updates available. Furthermore, I have never flashed or rooted this phone so it's still a virgin
Further information on my phone is as follows:
Android Version: 2.3.5
HTC Sense Version: 3.0
Software Number: 3.13.707.4
AND some pics of the specs are in the attachment, please check them out.
Now due to some performance issues I wanted to reinstall either 2.3.5 or lower version of gingerbread or if possible the latest version of Froyo available for my phone. I have already tried restarting, taking out the battery, doing factory reset, wiping the phone and sdcard both from within the phone settings and from the HBoot and Recovery menu as well to no avail.
So I would like to ask you guys for steps and possible links to correct RUU for re-flashing the stock version of unbranded 2.3.5 or lower version of gingerbread or if possible the latest version of Froyo. I don't want to mess with the phone too much by going into the rooting and installing custom ROMS just yet, but that would be my last resort if all else fails.
I'm a newbie so please be gentle in replies
Thanks in advance!
STOP STOP STOP DONT DO ANYTHING!
don't flash any froyo ruu or wwe this will mess your hboot and you'll be in a whole world of hurt.
If you've done a factory reset you shouldn't be having performance issues as that takes you back to factory condition of course.
How ever
Your first course of action now should be goto market and get emmc checker and see if you have the bad chips (sain I think).
If you dont have issue I suggest you do HTCDEV unlock and root your phone or flash a new rom, ive only used SVHD which is ics sense rom which is pretty damn awesome, but im moved on to samsung galaxy s4 (unrooted) now so haven't used newest version yet.
Have a look around the dev forum there are a few really good guides .

I recommend getting s-off and unlocking the HBoot to get the best performance from your phone. I must say that this is not for the faint-of-heart and things sometimes can and do go wrong .
I bought a second hand Desire HD running stock Telus GB for very little money so I didn't have much to lose if I pooched the phone. If you do decide to unlock the HBoot, make sure you upgrade to 2.00.0029 first.
What performance issues were you having?

Ran that app and it says " Brick Bug? NO. Sane Chip "
So I'm guessing my phone is good, right?
I've been having some major bugs popping up on my phone ever since I upgraded to the 2.3.5 update. My phone camera gets stuck while taking pictures, at times it has restarted my phone when I take a picture, the GPS/Location keeps popping up at every boot and I can't seem to disable it, the Connect To Computer message which used to let me select in which mode I want to connect my phone to the PC has stopped showing up and the phone only connects in charging mode to the PC, the speaker phone keeps turning itself on whenever I make a call or receive a call. I've read up on all these bugs on many forums and tried all the solutions to no avail, I have already done factory resets, battery pulls, cleaning of the usb connector, tried different usb cables on different computers, formatted the memory card etc, but none of these things worked for me.
So I'm left with one choice only, that is to erase everything on this phone and flash a fresh ROM onto it to see if it fixes the issue. And just to be on the safe side I want to install anything lower than 2.3.5 since that's when all these bugs popped up one by one for me. And I don't want to root my phone just yet or unlock it or do any experiments with it yet.
So my question is, how do I backup my current ROM in case if anything goes wrong I could revert back to this one and then how do I flash an official earlier version of GB compatible with my phone and where to get this ROM. Since my phone came unbranded and unlocked, I'm assuming the WWE versions would work well for me right? I once saw in my phone somewhere that it told me I have htc_asia_WWE version on my phone, if that helps. But I would rather get an English only version which has no other language settings in it, like chinese, vietnemese etc etc which my phone currently has.
Thanks in advance!

I guess you could run the RUU but since you think its wwe_asia it will be tricky to get a proper link for your RUU.I'd suggest unlocking the BL and if you're only after the stock ROM, flash Android Revolution HD 6.6, it's stock.First you need to upgrade the HBOOT though, you need .0029 for the unlocking process. You unlock the BL via HTC's site afterwards.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38947050&postcount=10
Download HBOOT Update Kit and rom.zip from attachments there.Put the rom.zip exactly in C, and the update kit doesn't really matter, aslong as it's in a folder.Make sure you have your drivers installed, found here , install them.Run the hboot update.bat, but turn on usb debugging first.

I did get a RUU which meets my specs exactly, or so I think:
http://www.shipped-roms.com/downloa...60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_234022_signed.exe
I ran it, updated my phone, it's the same version which is already on my phone, it completed without any issues, but the bugs are still there. So I'm assuming it didn't really reinstall the software from scratch, it just updated the software without making much changes to it, pretty much like a factory reset, right???
Can you please tell me why we need to unlock the HBoot??? Is it to enable us to flash custom roms???
What I want to do is erase the 2.3.5 GB software completely from my phone so it has no trace of it, then install stock/untouched 2.3.3 GB or any other GB version compatible with my phone. So please provide steps and insight into this process.
Thanks

Updated and unlocked my Hboot and now it's on 29 with S-Off.
I flashed CWM recovery, installed SuperUser and flashed the latest version of SVHD and rebooted but phone won't start, after the HTC logo with a white background, the screen goes black as if the ROM can't boot.
Could this be a SuperUser issue or a S-Off issue? I'm not sure if SVHD requires S-On to function properly and it's nowhere mentioned on the thread either.

Did you do full wipe before flash?
Apparently you really should be using 4ext recovery on dhd as clockwork doesnt quite do the job right?.

Choose full wipe in aroma installer. i recommend you to used SVHD 1.70 then upgrade OTA 1.73. does not flash version 1.74. this got so much error.

Flash 4ext, wipe everything and reflash 1.7.0, and then update to 1.7.3.CWM never wiped my partitions properly, it blows compared to 4ext.

Hi all, would like to know if, after installing a custom ROM, if i use a RUU will the recovery image be restored to default?
Thanks in advance!
Yes it Will
Yay! thank you! so just using the RUUs i will totally reset my desire, so HTC won't be able to tell if it's been rooted before?
Don't know whether they can't tell, whether they look if they've no need to I don't know...so long as it's on a stock ROM I don't think they'd check

What is a RUU and how can I do it, as I'm having the same problem.
I rooted to allow Titanium Backup to have root after using unrevoked but wasn’t aware that meant I also had a custom rom installed now.
I’ve been told I need to RUU as well.
RUU = ROM Upgrade Utility
It's the official way of flashing a ROM. Each phone has a software version running on it when you first get it and you should make a note of the one on yours before doing anything root-related for the very reason that if something goes wrong you can revert back to stock. Not all versions are available, e.g. there are no Orange RUUs about, but the ones that are can be found here:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
If you didn't happen to make a note of yours then it's hard to say what it came with. If you've only rooted and NOT flashed a new ROM yet then if you go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post the software version we might be able to help
Thanks for all the information it helps fill in some blanks.
I dont think I have put a different rom on it, I only rooted using revoked- does that mean it has a different rom now?
and my settings show
Android 2.2
Baseband version 32.46.00.32U_5.10.05.17_2
Kernel version 2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0 [email protected] #1
Build number 2.12.110.2 CL232610 release-keys
Software number 2.12.110.2
on a side note the link you posted - what do the numbers correspond to, my Kernel or build
Right you're on a T-Mobile FroYo ROM but the issue is there isn't that versions RUU available...how long have you had your Desire?
Damm.
I got mine in April this year, why do you ask.
Can I not use RUU_Bravo_Froyo_TMO_AT_2.12.112.1_Radio_32.46.00.32U_5.10.05.17_2_release_143754_signed.exe?
You CAN use that but it's the Austrian one...the reason I ask is to find out the screen type, you should be on an AMOLED screen so you can flash the older 1.21.110.4 RUU if you need to - you'll need a gold card to do it, though, I believe
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe
If I do flash the older 1.21.110.4 version, are there any drawbacks, or will I just be able to update through OTA updates that will then be available to me through T-mobile to get me back to normal?
Also is there a best way to do this RUU as I have seen a few guides, can you recommend any to follow.
The way I'd do it is:
1. Download that RUU
2. Have gold card in your phone and HTC Sync installed on your PC
3. Connect phone to PC and select 'HTC Sync' from the options on the phone
4. Once HTC Sync on the PC shows connected, run the RUU
5. All being correct it'll flash the ROM
6. Assuming it's worked, you should get the OTA updates again as you did before

Yes they're for you but there's someone on androidforums with EXACTLY the same issue - you sure you're not the same person??
Nope thats not me
I followed all the procedures. But the RUU gave me an error after a few minutes saying 'Error 140 Bootloader version error'.
What does that mean and how can I fix it.
Which RUU are you trying to use? And which HBOOT are you on now?
Im trying to use the one you recommended above RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.21.110.4_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe
Bootloader version I found out by holding the back key and power button to swithc on, it says HBOOT - 0.93.0001
Hi,
I have tried several ROMs on my desire but none of them is working perfectly.
The only rom that somehow makes it possible to work is dj-droid
Leedroid and Chinese rom kept on crashing
The phone keeps crashing if I use it to much. (run a demanding app like waze or o game)
It even crashed when I use the internet for too long.
All of this made me come to a conclusion that there is something wrong with the hardware (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong)
Now I want to get my phone to his stock condition.
I know that I need to download something called a RUU file.
I found this thread, but I can’t figure which ROM should I D\L.
I suppose it should be something marked as WWE and the numbers are the radio version.
From what I can see my radio version is 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 (found in setting-> about phone -> Software information Baseband version) is it really the radio or I’m looking at the wrong place?
Can I use any RUU file is there a specific RUU should I D\L because in the thread I found the highs radio version is 32.30.00. If I need a specific ROM can some please point to the right direction.
Also I’ll be happy is some will explain to me what are the steps to install the RUU file, or is it same thing as installing a custom ROM ?
Please feel free to throw any other suggestions that might help to set my desire to it’s proper condition.
Thank in advance
Mark
P.S
I had froyo 2.2 and my HBOOT is 0.93.001
In order to return to stock, just connect the phone to the pc and run the RUU (it's just an exe file). The latest OFFICIAL European rom is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=828519
That will upgrade HBOOT and Radio, you really need that. In case you'll need to get root access, just download unrevoked (google it), but remember to uninstall HTC Sync in case you have it installed before running it.
After rooting, just reflash the rom of your choice and keep the new radio, just don't change it, it's superb.
Hint: before flashing any rom on top of each other, remember to wipe cache, dalvik cache, and user data, so you won't get any crash.
To restore data I suggest MyBackup Pro, gives less issues than Titanium Backup.

Radio is responsible of many crashes: an old radio not compatible with the camera app gives FCs.
Why would he need a goldcard if he already rooted?? To go back to stock just enter in the bootloader, select fastboot, connect via usb, start the RUU and you're done.
Thanks,
I'll try the attched RUU and update with the result.
BTW
is the there posibility i'll brik my phone during this procedure ?
Oh and i anderstand that i need a goldcard only if my phone is/was branded.
Ok, I managed to restore the phone but after the installation it entered to a boot loop.
I let the phone rest for 2 or 3 minutes and it started up perfectly.
I suspect that if I'll stress my it's get too hot and crushes.
Any suggestion how can I confirm this theory ?
How did you get it out that boot loop? Resting? Did you take out the battery or smth?
Yes,
I had to to that several time before the phone started to work.

If the OP has a branded phone and wants to flash a stock unbranded RUU you need a gold card. Radio is irrelevent in the flashing of an RUU as you get the correct radio for the ROM included in it
I am just asking because I am trying to flash the Rooted , A2SD+ version of this ROM and after flash it just keeps looping (when the little green android logo appears and the phone vibrates) and does that on and on and on. Maybe I have to wait more.
Which ROM have you come from? IF it wasn't a Sense-based ROM you'll have to do a full wipe before booting

I came from exactly this one (latest OTA). It was rooted and as clockwork recovery did not work , I flashed Amonra. I did a full wipe, I formatted the SD card and then partitioned it, I did everything from scrap. I am almost certain I am missing astep or smth. Phone shows S-ON, maybe amonra doesnt get read of Security...?? I am not very good at this stuff, but any other ROM I flash works, except for the latest OTA (rooted and with A2SD- there is a post here on the forum containing it).
OR you mean a full wipe AFTER flashing, and before the first boot??
Chapter 2 – Return of the Desire
Hi again
First of all I want to thank you all for your assistance I had no problem to activate the warranty.
It seems that the constant reboot issue was a know issue of the A8181 series so my original phone was sent to HTC.
Finely I got the phone back and according to what I've been told it's a new device.
When I tried to use the phone I noticed that the APN settings were not transformed from the SIM card to the phone
(did not had that problem before I shipped the phone).
I tried to ran the RUU I used before and It seemed like I'm also going to gain an upgrade from 2.10.405.2 to 2.29.405.2 .
With a heart full of joy I'm pressing the next button and when the status bar reaches the "updating signature" I get the " Error [131] customer ID" error.
Noting I do seems to help fixing the problem.
I managed to root the phone, I flashed the LeeDroid rom, but i still can't run the RUU.
Any suggestions how do I fix the problem ?
I don't think my phone is branded as I bought an online store and from my provider.
Thanks in advance

Hello,
A few days ago, HTC launched the official bootloader unlock for the DHD. I did this proces to unlock it and after the proces i used Ace Hack Kit to get root, Clockwork Recovery etc. I tried to flash a custom rom(yes, i wiped cache), but it freezes on the HTC logo. Then, i tried with Recovery to do something, like: format /sdcard...
But now it doesn't do anything except freezing on the HTC Logo. When i try to install a custom rom, i know it's installed. Because when i make a back-up with the PC I see a lot of file names.
I don't know what to do? The only thing what is working right now is the recovery...
PS. Additional information for u people
HBOOT-2.00.0029
Radio-26.14.04.28_M
And it has S-ON
Before this whole situation is was updated to the latest version.
I have some new information, I have an Official Unlocked Bootloader but no Root. S-ON and there is no working ROM on the phone... There is also no back-up... I hope u guys can help me
You need to wipe data, cache and dalvik cache then flash Rom. You don't wipe data and cache only when upgrading the same rom but even then it can cause issues. You always wipe dalvik cache though.
Not sure how long you're waiting but when I flashed ARHD and also opted and ended up with CoreDroid, at first when I did ARHD, the HTC logo after the update and reboot, the phone stayed at the HTC logo for approx. 10 mins. Guides don't mention how long you have to wait, but I almost tried to reboot and eventually decided to walk away and come back in 10 mins and the lockscreen and desktop was there.
If you've waited more than 15 mins, then I'd say you have a problem.
I've wiped data, cache and dalvik cache. Then I flashes a custom ROM (Android Revolution). But it still freezes on the HTC logo, u guys said to wait 10 min. I'm already waiting 30 minutes and it doesnt do anything...

Maybe you didn't root properly since your radio is still S-ON. Try again with AAHK. I had a similar issue where the phone would not go past the boot screen. I would suggest you remove the SD, delete everything and format on your PC, put it back then try AAHK. Just read a LOT about it before you brick the phone.

Try flashing the "Set CPU clock back to 1.0 GHz" script from the ARHD first post. A small number of CPUs don't like the modest overclock in the ROM - this script sets the CPU to stock speed.
Boot into Recovery, re-flash the ROM, them immediately flash the "Set_to_default_1GHz.zip" file without rebooting. Once it's flashed, now try booting your phone.
I can't promise it will solve your problem, but it's the most common cause of phones getting stuck at the splash screen. Always assuming you haven't flashed any other mods after the ROM...
If that fails, mostly likely you need to re-run AAHK, but as said above, I'd suggest reading up to see how AAHK works on phones with the official unlock. You've said that the ROM flashed okay, but you've also said you're S-ON, so I'm not entirely sure what state your phone is in...
Maybe it's better to ask it first in the AAHK irc channel. The fact that the phone still has radio s-on indicates that de AAHK did not complete succesfully.
Actually I think the OP unlocked the bootloader with the HTC tool and then only installed CWM with AAHK. After that he just wiped the phone but because it still has radio s-on en no root it is now impossible to install any custom rom.
I think you're right about asking in the AAHK IRC.
However I thought the official HTC bootloader unlock removed security on some of the nand partitions.
As long as you have a custom recovery and S-Off, surely you don't need root to flash a ROM - root exists inside the Android OS, and you can flash a ROM onto a phone with the system partition wiped and no OS installed at all.
You need a form of S-Off to flash a custom ROM, otherwise the system partition is protected. The official unlock leaves security on the radio and SIM lock, so it still says "S-On" in the bootloader screen, but security is removed from some partitions. Whether the official bootloader unlock process removes security from enough partitions is another question. The HTC site says boot, system, and recovery, and AFAIK those and data are all ARHD writes to.
Having said all that, I don't claim to be an expert, and have never used the Hack Kit myself. So yes, probably best to ask the experts.
You're right about the root, that is something in de Android OS. You only need to have root it in the common methodes so you are able to get S-off from inside the Android OS. However I don't know either how the AAHK works exactly, what I know is that you normally use it with the stock rom still up and running...

I tried this, but it didn't work, i'm now gonna try the AAHK again
If that still doesn't work - ik222 says you might need to have Android running for it to work properly - I would flash an RUU and start again from scratch. The RUU will restore the entire phone to HTC official firmware.

Choose any WWE version, 3.12.405.1 is the very latest, or 1.72.405.3 is easy to root. Don't bother with the HTC unlock tool, just run the AAHK.

You succesfully locked the bootloader as they said in support? Normally AAHK should do everything itself so that error shows that something is still not right...
They said in the support, that the hack only will work when the bootloader is locked. But i cant lock it...
Hey Guys,
I'm reaching the point of frustration now. To try and cut a long story short, I had the Android Revolution 6 ROM on my rooted/unlocked HTC One X, and decided to update it to Android Revolution 13. I followed all the instructions, went to boot it, and it just sat on the HTC logo for an hour at which point I knew something went wrong. I repeated the steps, including wiping data using super wipe, without success either. I then decided to just select the "Factory reset" option on the boot menu, but this has also failed to boot after 30 minutes. I can also no longer boot into recovery. I've tried reloading CWM and other recovery ROM's onto the phone, but the phone resets as soon as they load.
At this point, I just want to get some form of OS on my phone. My phone is Unlocked, S-ON and has a CID of OPTUS001. I don't know if Factory reset will work if the phone is unlocked. It's all very time consuming as you normally don't know if the boot process has locked until you've waited ~20 minutes. I can't find my original ROM from when I bought the phone either, so I assume I need to obtain another one from somewhere, but I don't have any idea about CID compatibility, etc, and I'm finding this all very confusing and frustrating. All help is much appreciated. I have a feeling I need to replace my boot.img with a stock boot.img, but once again, where do I get that?
Thanks
the phone doesn't boot because you don't have the latest firmware installed, you need HBOOT 1.31 but you can't install it cause your CID is not compatible with it, you sjould go back to ICS and wait...
Did you load new firmware 1.31? This firmware is not compatible with Your CID... Did You read carefully this thread — http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924003
Sent from HOX with ARHD 13
You forgot that you need to update the firmware to 1.31.
You can also just install ARHD 9.7.2. Ensure you have the latest CWM 5.8.4.0
faatboot flash recovery recovery.img
and then flash the boot image:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
And then copy the ROM on using recovery mount USB and flash it.
Thanks for all the help guys. I managed to get a stock recovery.img back onto the phone, and by re-locking the phone I was able to use the latest Optus RUU from htcruu.com.
So at least I've now got a working phone again.
Moving onto why ARHD didn't work, I had no idea about the firmware 1.31 compatibility requirement. I thought all HTC One X's were created equal. I didn't know about this CID nonsense. Can someone explain how I find out when my phone's CID becomes compatible, or perhaps a way to change my CID or some other means of getting Jelly Bean onto my phone. Apologies for being a noob.

without S-OFF no chance to change CID. Regarding CID compatible - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924003

Yeah, but I'm going to put on ARHD 9.7 I think.
Optus not compatible with JB yet
I'm currently running Android Revolution HD on my new M9, unlocked, s-off also.
Found out that I have the battery is faulty, so I need to return it to stock, and get it back the shop for a replacement.
However, I stupidly didn't make a back up of my stock rom.
The CID of my phone is O2___01
I've downloaded the stock rom from this site, and flashed it using the RUU command. However when it flashes, then tells me to reboot, it still has Android Revolution HD on it.
I've spent a few hours browsing the forum, and still I've come to no avail.
Any help would be well appreciated!

You don't provide much information so it's hard to help. So let's start at the bginning: What firmare version are you using? (It's stated in Download Mode in the line with "OS" at the beginning.)
You tried to flash a RUU? Which one? Have there been any error outputs? If yes, which ones? Since you're S-OFF flashing a RUU should not be a problem at all so these outputs are very important if you want any help.
I tried to flash 1.40.206.8 -> 2.10.206.2 from this page
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/stock-nand-backup-ota-update-collection-t3132698
Also I followed this,
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/firmware-t3068243
downloaded the correct RUU zip, tried to flash, got the error code telling me I need to immediately flash again which I did. Rebooted, and it just set up Android Revolution HD again.-
My firmware currently is 2.10.206.2
Im sure it's something stupid I missing out?

As far as I know Sneakyghost doesn't provide any RUUs. Those are only firmware packages that do not contain a rom. So it's no miracle that you're still booting ARHD.
You can download O2 RUUs from here, here or here. Any of the X.XX.206.X files will work since you are S-OFF. Do you have a SD card that is not bigger than 32gb? If yes, format it to fat32, copy one O2 RUU to its root directory and rename that file to "0PJAIMG.zip". If you then boot to Download Mode you will be asked to push the Volume Up button and the RUU will start flashing. If it reboots to system instead of rebooting to Download Mode you will have to power off your phone and boot to Download Mode manually. The RUU will continue then. At the end you will be asked to push the power button so that your phone gets shut down. If you now start your phone you will be back on a stock system.
Be aware that there is no RUU for your current firmware. Since you're S-OFF that doesn't matter but your phone will be downgraded at the end.
Ahh no wonder! haha
Going to try this shortly, so will let you know how I get on!
After its flashed, I'll be good to lock again and go s-on? Then return to the shop?

Relock only after you successfully tested that your device is booting normaly. After that you theoretically could re-S-ON. (But I would never do that because there is always a risk of hardbricking your phone if you re-S-ON and there is anything still modified that you didn't notice. For safety reasons S-OFF should always be considered as a oneway.)
Edit: I'm not completely sure but I actually doubt that they will check whether your phone was S-OFFed or not. If I think about the people who are working at the O2 or vodafone shops in my city I would say they do not even know what a bootloader is...
Agreed, use the s-off command to change back to "LOCKED" and leave it s-off. Too much of a risk otherwise.
If in the unlikely event they see it, you can play dumb, because a few rare people have gotten s-off phones from the factory and it doesn't prove you did anything.
