Restore imei - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Ok, so I just had a little scare when I restored a backup and my imei and data were gone. Somehow pulling the battery and rebooting the phone brought it back but now I want to backup my imei. Could anybody provide me with a reliable and updated method on doing so? It seems that everything I find is over a year old and I'm not sure I trust using them.

Download and run Terminal Emulator.
Entter the following
su
reboot nvbackup
That's it! You now have an on device backup and you won't have to redo it. If you need to restore, enter this
su
reboot nvrestore
Alternatively, there are two apps I know of that do this for you. Andromizer is one and is in the store. The other is nv backup/restore. I have a copy but don't remember where I got it or who to give credit to.

Ok, so I just did it. Is there a way to verify that there is a backup?
Sent from my SGH-T999

Not that I am aware of unfortunately.
When it rebooted you shouldve seen blue text flash on the screen. Kind of like when you boot into recovery, but different.
I do plan to try and hunt this down at some point, I've just got too many other things I need to finish before I go digging in somewhere else!
As long as you saw what I described, I'd be confident that it worked. And if you find later that it didn't, you can still pm me for the old-style fix!

Yeah, it seemed to work. Thanks again, man! I just got curious and wanted to see where it saved the backup but as long as it works I'm good.

So if I flash a new rom would terminal emulator import the back up from the previous rom.
Sent from my SGH-T999

No, it gets saved to a different area of the phone, on a different partition. Recovery and Odin flashes won't touch it so it'll remain indefinitely, that's how I understand it anyway.

What rom are you running btw?
Have you backed up the rom then tried to take the update to see if it is really the ota and not something else?
Edit: Worse case scenario, I can edit the build.prop file so the ROM thinks it is a current ICS build so it won't nag you any longer either.

i am not responsible for anyone who screws their phones up this is just something i tried and definatly helped me so i wanted to share
my phone had already downloaded the update and kept nagging to update every 10 minutes or so when and if you try my method do not delete the ics update that will be found in the search as this method needs the update there and needs it to fail any modifications done to the system such as deleting device management , debloating ,custom bootloader should all result in a failed update attempt and this is what you want
1st obtain root of-course
2nd obtain root explorer or something equivalent
3rd from root explorer on 1st page select menue and do a search for "update"
4th look for file " /data/data/com.sprint.ce.updater/shared_prefs/com.sprint.ce.updater_preferences.xml" you will see retry mode value by default it is set to true, change it to false ( if you change any system files such as deleting device management or running custom bootloader it will fail) you want it to fail , buy changing the true value to false and allowing it to try to update even though you know it will fail it wont come back up with nagging notice to update atleast it worked for me hope helps someone else out there p.s after failed update attempt it may get stuck in bootloader with triangle or something just do battery pull then reboot then voila no more annoying msgs asking to update ,nearly a week now and no pop ups for me

Titanium Backup - Now you can create flashable Zips

For those of you that use Titanium Backup there was a significant update to the application today. You have always had the ability to backup your apps and do a batch restore of your apps and data or just restore the app with no data.
Well now it gives you an option to create a zip (flashable in recovery) of either your apps or your apps with data. This will make the process of switching ROMs and getting your apps back almost seamless. Just flash the ROM, flash the .zip to get all your apps back, reboot and you are ready to go. Fantastic update.
Information below was found on Phandroid. Peace.
http://phandroid.com/2012/11/07/titanium-backup-for-root-users-gets-new-flashable-zip-backups/
Wow nice
This is actually an awesome feature. Unfortunately, I lost my TiBu license quite awhile ago and moved onto RTB. Hoping RTB eventually implements this as well considering they're big competitors. Or I might just pick up another license if it goes on sale again.

My favorite app because it saves me so much time!.. I'm my opinion this is the most full featured backup/restore app in the play store
I tried the recovery zip after flashing a ROM last night. It restored all my apps no trouble....but no data. And I did select app+data option. Maybe a fluke. See if it works next time.
Anyone else try it?
I love this feature, this is why I bought pro despite the price because of how well it is made

It is supposed to back up data and in a batch restore it will give the options...app only...data only...app and data. And it works fine.
But I tried the new recovery zip feature...chose apps and data and the data didn't restore. I had to do it manually later.
I tried this feature. Some data restored, and on first boot after flashing zip, titanium ran on its own to restore the rest. Couldn't make sure the programs all came out ok because the whole rom went south on me. Not a related issue though.

Get App2zip from the market it backs up data apps and system apps. Flash it in cwm recovery. Or look up clockwork combiner its nice it combines multiple zips into one zip that you flash in recovery saving you time because everything you need is all in one zip.

[Q] Backing up EFS file - I747

I just rooted my phone and as I'm typing this I have the titanium backup running and well..backing up everything on my phone. Now I want to double check with the EFS file. I know that it is really important, especially before I start to flash a custom rom on my phone. So what I'm getting at is where in the world do I find this file and how do I back it up? Like I said all I'm wanting to do is double check this to make sure that it is done properly...any help is greatly appreciated!
Please make sure you are using the search feature. I found the below link within a few seconds.
EFS hold specific information about your phone such as the IMEI, IMSI, Data Settings, etc...
This is also known as an "NV Backup"

Ok so I have downloaded Andromizer and there are quite a few options on there backing up this and backing up that... from this thread that I created its about backing up the EFS folder, that is my main concern. I ran the backup, and it completed within seconds. What I'm getting at is...is that it? Is this all I need to backup or do I need to backup any other information pertinent to being "stock". I just want to make sure everything is perfect before I start flashing a custom rom or messing with kernels. Like I said before, any information is greatly appreciated. I'm open to learning about all of this.

Really besides EFS the only thing you need to do is make a nandroid of your current stock ROM.

This may seem a little redundant but did the Andromizer app get everything you mentioned before? You had mentioned something about the IMSI and a few other things...did that EFS backup include everything you mentioned? I'm assuming that all of those codes (if that's what they are...) are also important?

So the only thing I had to do to backup was this:
To make a backup:
Open Software Download from the Start Clients menu.
Click on the Backup tab.
Make sure your phone is listed under port.
Select the location you want to save your backup.
Click Start and wait for it to finish.
You should now have a QCN file of your NV.
Save the file in a safe place.

I remember my noob days. Believe it or not, it is really this easy on most Samsung devices. Don't nuke it out. As long as you followed the thread thoroughly and did what was instructed you are fine.
I encourage you to do a lot of reading and do not let yourself get panicked over things. Remember...as long as your phone can turn on, you are safe. As long as you read thoroughly and follow instructions, you will be fine. And regardless how confident you are in your skills after some time, remember to follow instructions anyway. Overconfidence will cause you more problems than being a noob who is willing to read.

CWM Restore 4.1.2 to 4.3.1-> Different Phone.

My screen got broken, and I got a new phone from insurance. I was on 4.3.1, and did a CWM backup which was stored in secure area. I used ADB to copy it off to my PC>
I now have my new phone, and it is 4.1.2. I installed CWM, and copied the files from the PC to the Clockworkmod/Backup directory, now on SD card. When I try to restore, I get a MD5 check error. From both backups.
Do you reckon I need to do something special to restore a CWM to a different phone? Or something about the fact it is 4.2.1, and I'm trying to restore a 4.3.1 backup?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Well, I have tried several things. The backup must just be bad. CWM seems to always fail me when I really need it to work.
I would have used TWRP...but my screen was dead, and so couldn't control TWRP.
