Do you have the Google Play framework installed? Pretty sure you need that for YouTube. Then again, I can't remember if I ever had YouTube working or not.
I'm not sure about the regular youtube app, but I suggest getting the YouTube for Google TV app, I hear it works really well on the OUYA. Either that or use the XBMC Plugin, which is what I prefer.
The Youtube for GoogleTV app works great on my ouya.
But I would like to know how you guys got the xbmc plugin running. It just doesnt work for me.
Wich XBMC build did you install?

The YouTube app (for Google TV) from the Amazon store works great for me! I get the same error when I tried running the Youtube app from the Google Play store.

Anyone know if Tubemate was discontinued? When I open the app it says there's an update but its nowhere to be found on the market?
That would be a shame man, its the best Youtube downloading app in my opinion.

i think they did, i went from 6.1.1 to run CM7 and after wiping i tried looking for it on the market with no luck, thank god for titanium backup. Also i recall Dolphin browser used to have the option to download youtube videos, they removed that as well after getting a cease and desist from google.

here is the 1.3.7 tubemate apk... i have on my phone...
Check tubemate.net they say the one in the market 2.0 is fake
i used to use youtube ripper until it stopped working, then i found this, glad i picked it up and updated it before it went M.I.A.
Thanks WarBird, i already have the app installed and that's the version i also have. I just thought it was weird that it wasn't in the market anymore.
I have a YouTube downloader back on my G1 that was made by Isaac Waller. I noticed about a year ago it magically disappeared from the market. :/
tubemate isn't availabe in google play store, you need to download that app in it's official site http://tubemate.net/ or here http://apkstrong.com/202/tubemate-apk-youtube-downloader/

So noone is able to log in? :crying:
you can't log in on the official app, but there is other ways, such as using the YouTube channel on Plex. This is because YouTube uses the google framework, and the OUYA doesn't have it.
Or install it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43253639

aaa ok, unless rooting and a little bit of work it wont work, but this does not stop ouya or someone else to build a youtube app?
Or does youtube demand this framework or is it just needed for the android youtube-apps that are currently out there?
I bet we'll see something official, but who knows. YouTube is owned by Google after all, so if they have any ill feelings towards the OUYA (which I do not believe they do, but others aren't so sure) it won't happen.

I was able to sign in using plex, but it doesn't really give you access to your account (or maybe that part is broke). You should also be able to login using a browser, but that might be more work than it's worth

XBMC Frodo, straight from xbmc.org/download.
The Youtube Plugin... well, not really sure on the details on that... I'll check the info on it. But it was actually automatically installed when I installed the 1Channel plugin. So whatever that is.
here's what it says in the info for it:
type: Media Source
author: TheCollective
Version: 4.4.4
cheers.

I think the youtube I plugged in was just the regular one that is there to choose from once it's installed, but I could be wrong. It was really late the night I setup my XBMC
Does anybody know what additional packages (besides the one needed for Google Play Store) the Youtube app depends on?

As far as I know, that's it, just the google architecture.
Also, the XBMC youtube is working pretty well, just use XBMCHUB Wizard and it'll be preinstalled.

The XBMC Youtube Add-On works just fine, but I don't want to start XBMC each time I want to watch a Youtube video. I am able to start the Youtube app though, but then an error message occures (forgot what it was about, something about not being able to log in, if I'm not mistaken)...
Was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any of the unofficial YouTube apps on the Play Store. The official YouTube app I use is terrible. Always buffering. Even on a strong wifi connection. YouTube through the browser works alright, but is less convenient. Anybody have any recommendations?

Ima register my interest here - since getting a tablet I've found i cannot watch HD vids due to buffering issues that don't exist in browser or on other devices using the same connection.
I never play strictly audio from YouTube as there are plenty of OTHER audio options I use on the M. When I'm on YouTube it's for videos. Heck the website works from my phone better than the app.

I know it's been a few months from the last response, but I feel like I should still reply in case you/someone else is still interested in a better Youtube app.
Viral HD Youtube Popup Player is the best Youtube app I've found for Android, far better than the official app. You can actually choose what quality video you want instead of HQ/HD and not HQ/HD, which is something about the official app that really annoys me. Also it doesn't shove recommended videos in your face when you start it, it instantly shows your subscriptions. The player interface also has much more usability (eg. changing the brightness/volume and being able to lock it) and it also has a neat feature to play the video in a popup window while you do other stuff (which isn't very useful in most situations really and you can disable it in the settings if you don't use it) or you can just have the video play in the background (which is really useful in case it's a podcast/music video).
It does have some bugs and missing features, which I'm sure will get fixed eventually, but in general the app looks really good and polished unlike most other unofficial Youtube apps.
(I was going to put a link to it in the Play store, but since I can't just search for Viral HD Youtube Popup Player and you'll find it)
PS. I've no idea if it fixes the buffering issue, I just had to share it since it's fairly difficult to stumble upon it in the Play store and it's just so good that it deserves far more than 100k downloads

Thanks, but the app isn't there. theres only de apks for the normal youtube app and the you tube app for google tv......
Looking for the same thing I called customer service they told me they are working on a new app for geo error we are getting but I don't know how long that will be if some one can adb pull there YouTube app and share it here would truly appreciate it that way we can sideload it and see if that works

Nobody in here that can actually provide a copy of the Youtube apk for FireTV? I'm having the same problem here. When I try and buy any of the free apps on the Fire TV, I get the good old geo-restriction errors. Also cant get them using a web-browser. The APK's that are available from the Play Store and the one for the Google TV are not ideal.
Could somebody please try and see if they have the apk they could upload somewhere so we can adb it to our devices? Great many thanks to someone willing to help out here!
???
What about the YouTube HD MOD also found here on XDA as a direct apk download?
Then again I want one with unrestricted access that doesn't block certain videos because of Android.
Some of Pewdiepie's videos (BattleBlock Theater Part #3) don't appear on his channel through the app,but I can find them by directly searching for them in the app.
Hey, guys, try this, just pulled from my device for you.

This one was installed using Play store, it's a google tv version. I like it.
Have you tried YouTube for XBMC?
Not sure if the Youtube XBMC add-on will solve your problems but it's worth a shot for sure.
