Hi Guys, I recently Purchased a USB OTG cable for my galaxt s4 Running Goosh v1.0 and Deviant Kernel.
My phone recognizes the cable when plugged in, but doesn't recognize my flash drive or anything else plugged to it, So my question is that do I need a Rom that supports it, a kernel or what. I have also downloaded usb otg helper from the play store and it says device not found..And also what format does the Flash Drive have to be in .??
I remember back with my sensation it was kernel related. It works with wicked v4 for sure. As far as the flash idk... All my flash drives have been recognized without me having to format.

Mines is a 32gb Flash Drive, I have a feeling the storage capacity is why it's not working.
Format it to FAT32, NTFS doesn't work with Stock Samsung.
Try StickMount

Are you rooted?
On my S4 with the VirginROM v2 it works. Tried it with a 16gb stick.
Most of these cables are sold have a quality that leaves a lot to be desired. When I ordered I got them for $3 each so i ordered 5 so I knew one atleast would work

I currently Have USB OTG and that doesn't recognize it either.
Mind giving me a link to that NTFS Mount app, I have a feeling I have probably tried it as well, tried every OTG app available in the app store.

What storage Capacity though
I was able to mount my 8 GB USB stick with the stock rom and stock kernel. I used an old 5 in 1 MHL connection kit that I bought for my Galaxy Nexus. It has full size USB for OTG and it worked fine. Stick is formatted in FAT32.
Thanks you guys.. I was able to get it to work, it was just a bad flash drive

I have two rooted Epic Touch 4G's running calk's GB 3.0 Rom. I can mount one, but can't mount the other. The problem just started happening a couple of weeks ago. I tried reinstalling the drivers on my computer and have tried flashing a new ROMs, but my phone still won't mount. It charges just fine.
I don't think it's a driver problem since my other et4g mounts just fine. Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks in advance for your help!
Try multi sd from the Market, should help mounting your phone for now. Have you tried different cords, USB ports, computers?

I've tried different cords, usb ports and reinstalling the drivers. I have yet to try my other comp. I'll give that a go as well as the multi-sd from the market and see if that works. Thx for the reply slick_rick.

I did. I've been experimenting with a few ICS roms over the last couple of weeks to see if that would fix the issue. Still unable to mount. I just recently went back to GB.

Yes, same rom on both phones. Calks ET4G Gingerbread v3.0. Using the kernel that comes with the ROM.

When I uncheck USB Debugging, the phone recognizes the MTP-Connection. When I check USB Debugging all it does is charge.

Yes!! Found something that worked! Thanks to PatrickBay over at Android Central and thanks to all that replied!
PatrickBay @ Android Central....
I had the same problem over the last few months and it progressively got worse. Yesterday, try as I may (and I tried all of the software-based fixes I could find), nothing would work. Even the charger would no longer juice it up.
That made me think that it could actually be a physical problem, not a software one. So I looked at the micro USB port and the slot in the middle (the tongue, if you will), seemed to be tilted too far down. I stuck a glasses flathead screwdriver (one of those really slim ones) in there and bent the connector upwards so that it was roughly in the center of the cavity. Plugged the cable back in and, lo and behold, all functionality fully restored!
I would caution that if you're doing this, do it as a last resort, and do it gently since you're forcing something that's fairly delicate.
I've noticed this problem on other Nexus phones and I chalk it up to the way that the micro USB slot is unsupported (so it can bend easily).

Just wanted to let people know in case they were interested. The extsd 2 internal sd card mod works on the T-Mobile Note 2. I flashed Perseus Kernel and then the mod found here. It's really nice if you have the 64gb Sandisk that was on sale at amazon

I didn't lose service at all. All I did was use the perseus kernel and the exfat version. Did you flash the right one? There is a stock kernel version and a custom kernel version. I made sure to use the custom kernel exfat. If you are using a stock kernel please use the stock kernel one. That is the only thing I can think of.
Good info, but best in the General Section, Moved and Thank You.
Does this make it so the OS is on the Sd card? If so, does it run slower? Sorry, I'm just not sure what this does. I did buy the 64gb sd and I would love to put more than 10 gigs of apps on here. Is there any downside to doing this?
hmm
I tried pretty much every mod on there, stock and custom, and still no service. I did do a restore with every try, so it would be fresh. I still get no service.
I'm using a rooted stock note ii from t-mobile. no new rom or anything. Maybe that's why?

Sorry to revive an dead thread, but I'm interested in how this has turned out. Do you notice any issues since doing this, especially with HD video recording or Burst shot camera pictures? I think it mandates that burst shot is placed on the internal because of speed issues.
Here is the real thread for this mod and it works great without any problems.

Custom kernel, sorry. Samsung (and frankly no other manufacturers) did not include it in their kernel.

No one has NTFS support other than rooted with custom kernel. And not all custom kernels. Fat32 is just fine. No worries. ExFat good too.

I second exFat, works perfectly. NTFS is a microsoft thing, so i believe thats why Samsung doesn't include it from the start.

Just to update you guys, padfone infinity does have ntfs support out of the box.

Paragon NTFS also works on my Sprint Samsung S4. I mounted a portable usb drive and it looks like there was enough power supplied for the drive to spin up.

This tends to be more a kernel issue than anything else - though truth be told I know little on the nuances of using the mighty 64GB sd card That being said - what kernel are you using? Perhaps that could help someone more knowledgeable in offering you assistance.

Nice - and fwiw kernels can be a bit independent of rom outside of major os differences (e.g. ics vs. jb, aosp vs. TW) - I don't think I've heard of any 4.1.x TW kernel not working at all for all users of a particular TW rom for T889 users anyway. My scope is limited though so I could very well be wrong on that (though I know that one works fine on Tweaked).

I think you just need to root stock. Otg works on stock. Idk about charging...
Any way to make it work?
I have that cable and it doesn't recognize the power input, even if no device connected to the otg port of the cable.
I assume you would need a custom kernel that supports this similar to the old Nexus 7.

It might be similar to the old nexus 7 and you can't charge while in otg mode. It was determined that it doesnt work from the sdcard hack in where once its in otg mode it disables the charging function so I'm assuming its going to be the same way sadly. Totally could be wrong but I wouldn't hold your breath
