Oh - just for games. I assumed that you felt in need of some jail time.
Changing your IMEI is illegal in most countries
It's also frowned upon to speak of such things here. I'm reporting this thread to a mod once I'm in front of my laptop.

Is it possible to change IMEI? I have stock rom with modified kernel.

You must be aware that you are living in area where changing IMEI is illegal
As well this is against the rule of XDA
Kindly report moderator to close this thread otherwise we need to force to report you for spamming.
I think there is a difference between having the intention to actually change the imei and just wanting to understand. I would like to know how but that does not mean I intend on doing so. Or maybe we should just ban and close every other topic that relates to illegal activities. Action must be taken once it is understood that illegal activities are being encouraged but if it is only for the sole purpose of keeping informed then it shouldn't be a problem.

Uff Didnt know.. Mods please close the thread.
You can backup/restore your IMEI but altering your IMEI is illegal, therefore not allowed to be discussed on XDA. Thread closed.

I highly recommend you all read this thread & pass it on to other users! Maybe someone will post it in the Tmo development section also, but I wasn't sure if it was the proper place? This is a huge risk, and I don't want to see anyone else lose their phone, especially those without insurance!

Your IMEI is your phone's ID number to the network. No IMEI = goodbye connectivity to ATT/Tmobile/etc. Your phone just lost it's 2g/3g/4g capabilities. In the world of Apple, it's like your iphone turning into an ipod touch.

more bluntly, a phone without an IMEI won't get served a signal by AT&T, as posted earlier by someone else if you had read the topic. And what's a phone without a data OR voice connection.

No, Samsung phones from way back have had a history of corruption of the EFS partition/file/whatever.
This happened to me with my captivate a few years ago the only way to fix it was to send it to Samsung for a factory firmware reflash.

The only way you will be able to access the network is by fixing your imei number. And to do that you will need time and a lot of patience including reading through the instructions carefully. Just search the forums there are numerous cases related to lost/corrupt imei. Good luck.

Hi guys. So my girlfriend dropped her iPhone 4s and smashed the screen to hell. Cough cough. Lol. Anyway I'm thinking I'm going to let her just have my epic touch. So I used triangle away app and also did a full stock restore. I'm wondering though could Sprint ever tell I had it rooted and had custom kernels before or should we be all set? Don't ask me why but she wants nothing to do with root. I gotta try to get you guys a pic of that phone though. It's pretty bad. Thanks.

I can honestly tell you that it is now an issue. Until we see things changed with the DCMA, it's now fair game to question all devices again, regardless of age. That's the way it's being handled.
I have sent a subject related question to our FSM's here for them to talk and discuss, while MSL obtaining talk is still OK, you have every reason to be concerned on what tech may look at. We have a few tech's in this forum who can speak better to what the directives are now on their level, but I do know that initial reps and managers have been instructed to pay more attention.
TL;DR - I know this is off topic from your op, but you're right to be concerned.
