Ok guys, i have installed official Rogers jellybean firmware for the xperia ion via seus. I have created an ftf file already from that firmware, but i need to pull the kernel.sin from that ftf file so i can send it to doomlord to update his rooting tool and add rogers firmware.
Not sure how to pull the kernel.sin file tho??

I m on Mooded 90.4 using base .431 firmware!
I think of moving from ICS to Stock GB .62 firmware but when i flash the .62 firmware using flashtool, i get an error saying that flashing has been canceled and when i select the firmware in the flash mode section, nothing shows up on the right ! (for eg. Exclude kernel, baseband like that all the options are unavailable)
But when i flash any other ICS ftf file it flashes properly!
Is the prob is with flashtool?
I m using the latest version of flashtool!
Note: The .62 ftf file is not corrupted, it worked with previous versions of flashtool(eg. with 0.7.0 one)
Gb ftf needs flashtool 0.6.9. /0.7.0
Ics needs 0.8.0 /0.8.5
So downgrade flashtool to flash Gb ftf

the .62 firmware cannot be rooted hence i wuld any day suggest ou to flash a rom . while on he other hand, acronium is a excellent rom and is very battery efficient
@link-in,
He's got an unlocked bootloader. Rooting the .62 isn't going to be an issue.
I've flash the 4.0.2.A.0.42 firmware on my Xperia PLAY. but it won't boot. then I've try to flash the other firmware (which is 4.0.2.A.0.62), it normal and working. my question is, why my Xperia PLAY does not boot on 4.0.2.A.0.42?
Do you use flashtool? It may be that the .42 ftf is corrupted and the .62 one not. Did you flash other .42 ftf´s from different sources? Because for me, it worked when i wanted to downgrade to .42 for testing purpose.

What would be the best way to run stock 2.3.4 rooted on an R800i? The stickies are outdated around here and all root methods I've seen refer to 2.3.3 or 2.3.2.
Would the best way be to root on 2.3.3 then update to 2.3.4 OTA and use something like OTA rootkeeper if I want to keep the stock kernel?
If I am unlocked can I just ftf or update to the current stock firmware and then fastboot a kernel with root built in like doomlords kernel? Is that the best method if you want a custom kernel but stock 2.3.4?
Really I am looking for the best way to run stock rooted 2.3.4 with a stock kernel and with a custom kernel to compare.
Yeah, you can flash any stock rom using a ftf file and then update the phone to the latest version with OTA or PC Companion, but i think neither of them works if your bootloader is unlocked. In this case you must find a ftf file with the latest 4.0.2.A.0.62. I found it on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409355

I want to flash PLAY's ICS beta ROM.
Sony says that I have to flash the 4.0.2.A.0.42 build version ROM.
I used to flash PLAY's .58, .62, .69, .79 ROMs.
So I found .42 ROM and try to flash with flashtool.
But..? there is no file in firmware list of .42 ROM.
Is there other how to flash .42 ROM?
Thanks for listening and your advice.
Open .42.ftf with 7zip or whatever, find the .42 file name and delete it. Than u can flash it. Good luck.
