I have a practically new E4GT (Sprint gave me a refurb when I was having problems with GPS) but now I got a HTC EVO LTE off eBay. I want to give the E4GT to my friend who has Boost Mobile. Does it cost money for a dealer to flash the E4GT to Boost? Is there a guide on how to flash it over to Boost on my own?

so i was wondering because right now i have the vibrant and im tired of stupid tmobile, and i need a cheaper plan, virgin mobile seems like the answer, soo i wana get me the epic 4g and maybe flash it to virgin mobile, is this even possible?
I'm sure you can't. But you could flash to metro pcs.
Well Virgin Mobile is owned by Sprint, so maybe. I don't see why they'd care. If not, you can flash to Boost.

Or cricket, I think. Both 40-50 a month. If you don't travel a lot its the bomb.
cd's or tapes?
yes u can but u need a virgin mobile phone and plan setup already. Also i don't think we can disscuss how to do it. But when i was searching how to get my epic to virgin or boost i found directions for both. I went with boost cause it was cheaper to pay a local service because i didn't want to buy cdma workshop. I have seen people do the epic/evo on virgin on ebay a few times. But you would have to send your phone to them.
Also you can buy Epics already flashed to boost but it will cost you around $400. $50 unlimited everything with shrink. Never seen a Epic for sale that was already flashed to virgin.

It would probably be best to PM the seller and specifically ask any/all questions you have before even thinking on trying buying. If he confirms its fully flashed over to Virgin/Boost, ur good to go.

Flashing a ROM should overwrite whatever he did so either he doesn't know what he's talking about or he's deliberately trying to rip you off.

wow thx for this info, i think he might trying to rip me off, u could never trust an ebay person..
You can still flash your own rom. Wont hurt anything. Just flashed a new one on my phone today.
Yeah i flash roms all the time. hasn't effected anything. An virigin mobile is sprints network i believe so i doubt anything like modem updates would even effect the phone.
I also checked out that ebay listing i would jump on it if i where you. He's got a good sellers rating and that is extremely cheap. My epic on boost costed $400.
The only thing that would erase data settings is #786 atomic reset...
Even odining won't change them ... but mmsc needs to be reset quite often every rom flash
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
chris is right, ##786# is one of the few things that can reset your data settings. (although this doesn't always guarantee it will reset those particular settings.)
Virgin mobile is extremely easy to put pretty much any CDMA phone on to.
I have had 3 evos, 2 epics and a fascinate I've tested on them.
Good luck!
I havemy epic on VM. I'm thinking of flashing one of the gingerbread leaks. This wouldn't mess up my phone settings would it?

Perhaps in the Epic Touch forums you will find one.

Google much?
Google "epic 4g virgin mobile" and check the first result. Flashing S1 and S2 is similar, so that guide will get you started.

Would much rather keep my E4GT than get a Galaxy Nexus. Can I use it on VZ?
No you can not. Verizon does not allow sprint phones on their network.

Hold on,old epic could be flashed to verizon I dont see why you cant flash epic touch.
They are both cdma phones and will work on verizon minus 4g.

There are "other" methods you can use, but non of which are legal.

If you have friends in high places they can get esn added but doesn't happen often..... Otherwise it's illegal options with changing esn from one phone to another ..... In my opinion it's not worth it sell e4gt buy another phone so much easier

Changing ESN is illegal?
What about cloning esn from a donor phone to flash epic to virgin mobile, boost and cricket.
You trying to.say that those methods in them threads are not legal?

Technically yea they are not legal if you are doing It and paying for service not so bad but yea they frown upon it because it can be done to steal service
Cricket does not involve changing Esn ....boost and virgin and others do because you can't use phones that they don't sell and are usually low range Android....you can't call up virgin and have them activate a topic touch but you can go to cricket and they will flash it

Sorry for asking (i know it's one of those annoying questions):
I was wondering if I can buy the Epic 4G and use it with Boost Mobile.
A friend wants to sell me his Epic (he is moving to an iPhone), but I don't want to commit to Sprint. I would rather do a month by month.
THANK YOU !!!
Yes but you'd have to buy a donor phone for the process. Its a process of flashing and you have to know your stuff before attempting to do this there is a guide on here if you search for "epic 4g flash to boost mobile" should bring you to the guide.

I have a sprint Epic 4G Touch that I'll soon no longer need on my sprint plan, and was thinking about putting it on my fiancee's virgin plan. What did you do to get the sprint phone onto the virgin plan?

You're assuming the only option is to change the phone's ESN, I didn't assume that, and was asking the OP how he went about getting the phone activated, nothing else.
Maybe the only option is an ESN swap, in which case I wouldn't be interested, but until the OP has told me otherwise, I'm curious.

well I have htc evo v 4g and the phone die, so I refused to buy another phone till my friend sold me the d710, and I use my HTC ESN is already in virgin mobile database, and I called they me my MIN which I couldn't get off HTC because was dead. than I just program it into the phone and f there's ton of tutorial how to do it. I'm on 35 dollars plans... why would it be illegal if I'm paying for my services...
Well its in the grey area. And xda doesnt want it to be discussed within their site. Pm sure. Just not in the open.

ok, I got my answer, thanks, it wasn't what I was hoping for, but at least now I know that there is no "non-fishy" way of doing it.

As far as I am aware, Verizon will not activate an Epic 4G on their network. They'll use some excuse that it isn't in their system, and since it isn't as simple as swapping a SIM card, I'm afraid you're at their mercy.
YMMV, of course, but I wouldn't bank on it.

I know of a different story. I know that v was tooling up for a byod campaign a while back. I heard u can take a device to v from sprint. My personal expierence is sprint will not let non sprint devices on the network. I tried really hard once

Considering that VZW won't activate my Nexus 7 LTE, I'd say his chances are slim to none on the Epic 4G.

Sorry for the misinformation. The guy who told me they were headed towards a byod system said afahk you can't port sprint devices to v. Technically 1000% possible. Policies prohibit it seems
