Please say what ROM you are using, kernel, using auto brightness or not, governor/scheduler, under clock/over clock, and your average screen on time. I will post a screen shot of my battery stats at the end of the day tomorrow.
But I'm on Jmz's stock modded rom, medium brightness all day, Jmz kernel, cfq scheduler with smart ass V2 governor, over clocked at 1.3ghz, and I average about 4-5 hours screen on time. Just average use with Twitter, xda, Internet searches, etc. Barely ever play games. Not sure about total battery life, will know tomorrow.

I'm on the stock HTC ROM. Also on stock kernel. CPU settings are down below and I run on low brightness all day. Most of my usage is heavy browsing and Google music. Also, Bluetooth is on for about an hour at a time. I'll update later with the time of death and how long it was for full battery time.

Hi all,
I've set some profiles in SetCPU but haven't noticed too much in battery life savings. I was wondering what others who are using CM 6.1 have been doing/would recommend. Should I get rid of the profiles and just have it set to on demand? Do I really need it at all with CM?
Many thanks!

How high are you overclocking?
What's your usage?
What's are your profiles?
Overclocking to 1401 on demand
I use power amp with scrobbing to last fm for probably an hour or two when not charging, while playing games that aren't to elaborate (boring stuff like sudoko) during my commute to/from work, which is probably my heaviest usage. I also do the same music set up while at work but I'm plugged in most of the time for that and volume is way down. Calls range from 30 min to an hour a day. Some intermittent web and video streaming while at home and on wifi. Typically only on wifi when at home, only when I need heavy data. Data sync is turned off when I'm not charging unless I want to sync.
I have profiles of 368/245 while sleeping, 75 priority; 738/245 when temp is 40.5 C, 60 Priority, 1401/245 when plugged and fully charged, 50; 368/245 when battery less than 10, 60; 806/245 when battery less than 40, 50 priority.
I'm thinking the fully charged one is probably redundant. Should I raise the priority on some of them?

I always set temp as the highest priority however i OC a lot higher then you. What oc kernel are you useing? This makes a huge difference some have a lot more steps which allow better power use. Pershoot is the most efficient imo right now.

I think I'm just using the cyogen mod kernel...but I'm new at this so I am a little clueless on that part. I did set higher priority on the temp and the screen off, got rid of the charging profile. I'm at 13% battery after about 15 hours, which isn't horrible but not the 30 hours some folks have been posting.

had to dig back to find a good thread to post this on....
so I'm really leaning toward deciding that setcpu profiles do more harm than good in terms of battery. I had profiles set for temp, screen off, charging, battery below 30, and battery below 10. its pretty clear to me now that it wasn't helping my battery. and the only time I even had it overclocked was while charging.
next I'm going to just enable only a screen off profile, and see if having setcpu monitor for less profiles makes a difference. i'm not going to overclock at all. we'll see what happens.
btw I've had a rooted android phone since the G1 so its not like I don't have experience with setcpu. seems that setcpu affects different phones in different ways. so I'm still figuring out how it is on the G2.
anyone have any thoughts on this?
The screen off profile does not work.
Just use the phone out of the box and charge when its empty

really? I hadn't heard that. is this confirmed?
though, it never seemed to make all that much sense anyway, as I wouldn'y think there would be any reason for the cpu not to remain at a low freq with the screen off
The screen off profile works for me. I just set to "ondemand". Lately I've been using "cpu tuner" instead and have noticed better battery life then with set cpu. Plus with cpu tuner you get more profile options.

To be honest, not sure if its the case for you but profiles was the cause of my battery life drain. I took off all profiles and only kept screen off. Even since I did that I get about 24 hours + of battery.

I had a similar experience. The more profiles I had enabled, the faster my battery would drain.
I am using the same setup now and have great battery life. Even with heavy usage I can make it through the entire day without needing a charge.
Running On Demand 1209/245 and screen off 245/245.
Haha this was an old thread. I'm now on CM7 nightlies and would say that in my experience I've had the best battery life running no profiles whatsoever in setcpu. I only overclock to 1017 and it's been pretty snappy still. My experience in going higher than this on CM7 has lead to issues with wake, temperature and battery drain. I personally Have no need for more than 1017.

agreed. this setcpu stuff did not help at my device. nor did it work reliant.
i am managing 1day with heavy use and a full weekend with moderate use without any "tuning".
that is enough for me.
I used setcpu for awhile, but I have been much happier using cpu tuner and "power control".
My battery life is increased by 12 to 24hrs. The key for me is really using power control to manage the screen brightness and under clocking rather than overclocking. The only time I found overclocking usedful was when playing fifa10.
Good luck

I just installed the XDA Premium app 15 minutes ago and have been reading stuff on here ever since. My battery was 100% when I started the app and now it's 82%. I'm running Synergy Rom. I had this same problem with my Hero and finally had to uninstall the app. Is this kinda drain from one app normal? I've only had my EVO a few weeks.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I highly doubt that that one app is the cost for your battery drain. The XDA premium app is known to be a AMOLED friendly app which pretty much means that it doesn't use a bright white background which would cost your battery to drain a lot quicker compare to those apps that use black or darker backgrounds.
There are properly a million things that are making your battery to drain but before you point the finger at one specific app, try to do these things and see if your battery life increases....
Turn off your GPS when not in use
Turn off your WiFi when not in use
Turn off your 3G when not in use
Turn off bluetooth when not in use
DO NOT use Task killers!!
Set your screen brightness to as low as your eyes can see, DO NOT use Automatic
IF YOU ARE stuck on uninstalling the XDA Premium app then by all means go ahead but in the future go ahead and get a before/after so that way you have something to back up your claims. Also what is the average battery life for this ROM? Try to head over to the Synergy thread and ask those guys over there and compare to what you got.......I'm running Cyanogenmod 7 nightly 120 and my battery life is on average 13 hours under medium use (phone calls, angry birds, internet and about 30-40 texts to my wife)
GOOD LUCK dude!
I've been running ahrd 12 for a day now, it's pretty impressive compared to ahrd 9.7.2 or stock.
My question relates to having to run apps like setcpu and juicy defender.
Are they still required , or will they just stuff up the better cpu and memory management that jb already has.
Thanks

Good question, I'd like to know this to.
I'm still on ARHD 11.1 (also JB) and loving it. But this phone is very power hungry so I'm trying as much as I can to keep the battery drainage as low as possible whilst retaining a very fast and responsive phone.
Currently I'm using SetCPU to reduce the CPU speed to 1GHz (interactive) for normal use, 860MHz (on demand) when the battery is below 25%.
CPU is limited to 640MHz (on demand) when sceen is off and may run at 1,2GHz (interactive) when charging.
As the screen is also a big battery hog I'm using Lux to change the screen brightness and I find the normal brightness way to bright.
Ok so here are the tools I use
An automatic radio activation tool that will turn radios/wifi /gps OFF when screen is off - Juice Defender Ultimate is my choice
A CPU management tool - I use AnTuTu CPU Master but i hear that SetCPU is also very nice
Better Battery Stats
I Have setup Juice Defender (JD) to turn off my radios/wifi/bluetooth when the screen is off, to manage auto-synch, manage screen brightness but i DO NOT use it to manage CPU. I have also not setup any special App settings in JD, it just manages power consuming hardware (other than cpu)
My CPU tool (whichever you use) is used to setup profiles based on situations. Screen off, screen on, in call, etc.
There is never any reason for your CPU to be over 700mhz unless you are interacting with your phone. When you are on the phone 920 is all you will ever need. You can set the max above 1200 if you want or need the extra power but just remember that the cpu is always going to be a battery drain.
The #1 thing to remember is that if your not using your phone actively, it should be doing as close to nothing as possible.
Now I would love to hear from others on experiences and strategies or even critiques of my method. I know many will say that JD is not needed, bit i like not having to think about it.
I stick with Trickster Mod app for CPU/kernel settings. It's amazing. Also I never use Juice defender I use Tasker

Good idea starting this thread but I feel that you've opened up a can of worms
I've used JD before on my Dinc2 and I liked the fact that it can manage the radios but for me, I get a lot of emails and I like something on so I stopped using it. I did try some other apps like that but JD was my favorite by far!
Check out TricksterMOD from the app store it blows setcpu out of the water! It let's you do so much more and since I've found that I can't go back to anything else.
I usually don't undervolt, I feel like the kernel developers so a good job with their frequencies so I leave that alone lol but I have been recently checking out the governor settings to try and optimize a few things, that's a tricky topic lol

What ROM you guys running for best battery life? I seem to get the most from aosp based roms and not cm10 or aokp ones.
Im using XenonHD with Tinys kernel. I saw HORRIBLE battery life until i took action to tame it. now its much better

Mines close to stock on purpose but I don't mind people tuning it. What did you change that helped battery? There's bit much from a kernel perspective that will really help battery.
And this topic doesn't belong in development.

i guess it belongs in general but the idea was to get all the tidbits that we need together in one app specifically for our phones. like "The CDMA Galaxy nexus Super Battery saver app that does it all without all the stuff you dont need"
Just flash lean kernel and turn off mobile data when you're not using it. No need for these crazy battery saving apps. I get ~7 - 9 hours a day, easily.

Since radios are such a huge drain ...
I think my best move has been using an app called Profile. You can use it to turn off and on WIFI, Bluetooth and change the screen brightness at certain times on certain days. So at my usual time to go to work, WIFI gets shut off. At my usual time to get home, WIFI back on.
Also will change ringers, volumes and vibration on/off (always off uses battery).
24 hours no problem.
Costs a couple of bucks to get the time based control, but works for me.
Two tricks are using auto brightness and using WiFi whenever possible.
However, since I can't stand either of those options, using trickstermod to set max CPU speed while screen off, and setting color profile to morific typically helps my battery life.

Yah why would you need to lower CPU on sleep when we have deep idle?
I use CM10 nightlies, and the latest dev snapshots of Imo's leankernel. Min frequency 230mhz, max 1350mhz, interactivex governor with his tweaks and sio i/o scheduler.
I get ~24 hours battery with decent screen-on time, from just texting, about 20 minutes on the phone, and websurfing on full wifi service wherever I go (stays connected even when sleeping, and we have cross-campus wifi here). 3g service only, no LTE here yet. Bluetooth off. NO apps--many of the market "powersaving" apps will just wake the phone from sleep and cycle a few times to write to the log file (any app that keeps track of power consumption, and half of them don't even use the system tools). GPS is on, but it's never initialized more than 1-2x a day for random needs.
Getting a lightweight kernel is a good choice for battery life saving, and getting one that actually keeps up with android mainline is pretty key.
I think it's most helpful to post your total 'screen on' time and time since charge. If someone tells me they get 14 hours, that means nothing. I can get a full day 16 hours with roughly 2 hours of screen on time, without limiting my phone via turning off mobile data, syncing, or using a juice defender app that disables a lot of things.
That, to me, is not very good at all. I saw that the Nexus 4 is getting about 4.5 hours of screen on time with a full day of being on with everything syncing, etc being on. 4.5 is actually pretty bad also compared to other devices these days.
No matter what I try I usually only get about 2.5 hours of screen on time. I under clock to a max of 750 screen off at 280 undervolted to in each setting.
I've tried many many kernels with many roms
Screen on time doesnt mean much me to me because i use my phone for personal and business use, which means I get quite a few calls.
I use the stock 4.1.1 image, rooted with SuperSu and debloated a bit. Also use Faux kernel 23m-sr and his control app.
I roughly get about 2.5 hours screen on time with light calls and about 1.5 with heavy calls - my off charger time is pretty good though as it easily gets me thru the day. I bought another OEM standard battery and just keep one fully charged at all times so I can swap. Works well for me.
I also keep 4g on - why not when you can swap batteries.
does leaving gps on all the time if you're not running any location apps bother the battery at all?

No only when you use something requiring device GPS does it turn on. Most background stuff like Google Now uses tower fix so it's OK to leave it on.

Battery life is a pretty unique experience for everyone. Apps, ROM, kernel, signal, Wi-Fi time, brightness, etc. Won't say these type of threads are totally pointless but they are pretty close to it. Always good to share pointers on how to save a few minutes of juice though. Ultimately its a big screen and turning it off now and then is the best way to save but personally I leave all my services on because that's why I bought this thing and I keep a charger everywhere I go.
So after purchasing the Nexus 7 (2013) 16gb WIFI edition I noticed a problem with the battery that is really bugging me. Im on stock non rooted 4.4.2 and the battery is HORRIBLE. Moderate use finds me having to charge the thing almost twice a day. Its especially bad when im watching a youtube video or streaming a movie on netflix (Non GPU intensive gaming also), it will go down about 1% every 3 minutes not exaggerating. I have heard stories on here of Nexus 7 owners getting like a day or two out of the battery. Is there some kind of ROM or kernel out there that is good battery life? Is my tablet just a defect?
p.s. I have my brightness medium, GPS off, and i keep my WIFI always on.
Battery isn't intended to go a day or two and haven't heard of anyone's doing that. I use elementalx kernel, slightly over clocked, get about 10 hours with moderate use. Hard to tell now because I keep mine on a wireless charger when I set it down.
Netflix does drain the battery a lot. If you watch it all day you're gonna have to charge it. Can try out any of the Roms and kernels, see what works for you.

My nexus battery isn't that different from yours so i'd say it's not a defect from your tablet but it's our battery that isn't that good. I use sinless rom with elementalx kernel with cpu at 1.8 ghz and if i play need for speed for a couple hours and watch 1 or 2 movies drains really fast. the battery is the only thing i hate on this tablet, that and the fact that there's no sd card slot..
my nexus 7 also does not make much more, usually 7 hours screen time. it is often enough to look at a video on google play, and surf a little with wifi

Standby time is where the battery lasts for days, actual usage will dictate how often you need to charge. I usually only charge every 4-6 days with about 7 hours screen time. Naturally if you use the tablet several hours worth a day you will have to charge more frequently. The battery is perfectly acceptable, better than the 2012 N7 even though it's smaller.

The 2013 nexus 7 has an incredibly bright screen.... when turned down, it uses very little power, but if you turn it up all the way, it will drain battery like mad. What are you keeping your screen level at? If you keep it in the middle like you say, maybe turn it down a bit. The middle is like max brightness on other devices.... so watch your brightness and you will net much better battery life... also disable any sync/ wifi/bluetooth if you arent currently using them. that will help.
I flashed back to 4.3 to get good battery life again but I did that mainly cause 4.4 and up gave me touch screen issues I didn't have with 4.3

Follow the steps below.
1. Apps like Facebook, Instagram, Mail apps drain more battery even though if you are not using it. So configure them to sync occasionally at 3 hours or more to save your battery. You can also manually turn off sync in the Quick settings & turn On only when you need it.
2. Use apps like Greenify to limit apps like Facebook, Netflix to running on the background.
3. Set your brightness to auto. If you wanna configure your brightness more, use Lux Auto brightness app.
4. Install the following apps to monitor your battery like Battery Stats Plus, Cpu spy, Battery widget & note the values.
5.Also give a few days to analyse battery behaviour & reply if you found changes in the battery.
Nexus 7 (2013) with stock AOSP ROM(4.4.2), FRANCO Kernel (r12)
