Wifi hotspot/tethering Updated - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am currently running jedi 14 tmo version well I am being blocked from using mobile hotspot. Is there a guaranteed work around? Or app? I have unlimited data but I dont have tethering on my plan. If I switch to a non tmobile rom like jedi x14 would that help? Would I still have access to 4g and lte? Thanks to anyone and everyone that can assist.
Update: I installed treve mod and switched some settings, as well as I installed hotspot vpn sheild from the play store. I will post the link to the thread for what I used for settings and I just tethered to my tablet and it works. Also I just tried access control for when tethering to my ps3 helps alot, once enabled click on the ps3 connection.
Thread for settings http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044225
Make sure to install and run hotspot sheild vpn first before running the treve wifi tethering mod apk

I think the only possible way to go around an upsell page is the user agent method. For a tethering app, use treves mod tethering app

I will try that. I'm trying to use it for my ps3 and pc

The only sure fire way is vpn / tunneling to prevent them from seeing where your data is being used. Look up sshtunnel app on the market and set up an ssh server at home. Costs absolutely nothing, and very effective. Tmobile can still see what you are doing when you change a user agent change. If on a windows pc tethering, you just need puttyssh and set up whatever browser to use a proxy. Ssh tunnels basically create a socks proxy to connect through, and offer rsa encryption of all data.

Unfortunately its not that easy as I dont think the PS3 has either ssh or vpn capabilities. It is possible using another computer to act as a proxied gateway ( With all of its ports redirected through the tunnel ) , but, its not easily explained.
Just googled and found this.
https://www.my-private-network.co.uk/knowledge-base/other-systems/ps3-proxy.html
Similar setup but with using your own server and software rather than theirs
You still need a server running somewhere remotely that you can pipe your connection through.

Great input Pyraxiate. I'm doing my homework today since I'm not a vpn expert by any stretch of the imagination. Just to clarify you mentioned settting up the "server at home" which seems backwards to me since it is the incoming internet service of T-mobile which I am trying to tether to. so wouldn't the server be my GN II celly and the client be My PC?
Help me understand if you have the time.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated in advance.

Rooting on its own, won't do anything, but freezing or deleting the tethering manager or the tethering provision (if you're on stock ICS) should get the job done.
Now keep in mind that T-Mobile's tethering detection works by detecting your browser agent. Therefore if you're tethering another android phone, then they won't know (unless they were to inspect packets of data, which they don't do) but if tethering to a PC it's best to install a Web Browser agent switch, so they think that you're really using your Android browser.
Now keep in mind that you're doing this completely on your own risk. It should work, but if they catch you, then there might be consequences.

How did T-Mobile totally block my tethering?

Hey guys, I've been using workarounds and such for a very long time with my T-Mobile phones, and T-Mobile has been sending me "you're going to be blocked" messages for a while and I've just ignored them. Now, it says "you're blocked" and I just thought ok, I'll use a mobile user agent on my computer and secure sites...
Not so fast - my mobile hotspot SSID doesn't even show up on my laptop anymore using my Wireless Tether for Root Users app...how is this possible?
I'm on the stock rooted JB rom
I believe they started blocking by the user agent on your browser. You'll need to set it to something Android generic.
EDIT: just saw your comment on your user agent. Nevermind.
What message have they been sending?

Please, tell us more about what you have tried. You're using the Treve Mod - Wireless Tether app? And you changed the APN using the APN Backup and Restore?
That's the problem with jb touchwiz, ssid doesn't show. You need to adjust a few settings in the wifi tether app.. or there's a modded one floating around. I forget where the instructions are, but more workaround are definitely there for your problem

The modded app that you're talking about: Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988735 and download the one labelled "WifiTether-TrevE_Mod_11_22_2012_driverReload2." You should go into settings and change the Device-Profile to 'Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)'. SSID does show up and WiFi-Encryption and Access Control both work for me.
Hope this helps.

[Q] How do I get rid of T-Mo's tethering lock?

I'm on the stock ROM, rooted, but T-Mobile seems to still have a hold over tethering on the phone. How do I fix this?
Answers are there, for your setup though, probably a UA adjustment would be in order

They can always see if you are teathering. You are on their network. They can sniff every packet from your phone. The question is do they want to.

Whst problem? It wont even let you turn on the feature. Use easytether. If you get redirected get the ua spoofer extension for chrome on your computer. UA = USER AGENT. Like.. mozilla on windows 7, Or netscape on mac. Or internet explorer on windows millenium edition

Tether with no user agent changer

This is my post from the s3 forum . Still working .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35820296
Found a solution to tmobiles user agent sniffer .
**Must be rooted for this to work * *
Steps:
1. Get TrevE Mod tether app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34037922
(you will not get a internet connection using any other tether app while using the VPN app)
2. Get Hotspot Shield VPN
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...id.vpn&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
(was mentioned in earlier post but couldn't get it to work)
3. Start Hotspot Shield VPN and connect
4. Start TrevE Mod Tether app
Problems?
Hotspot Shield does not connect or you get error 1028?
Get Tun.Ko from market and install it
Repeat step 3 and 4
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5hZWQudHVuLmluc3RhbGxlciJd
Connected device does not receive internet?
In TrevE Mod tether app go to settings and select Device profile and select Generic ICS/JB wanl0 . Now select setup and select Netd-Ndc master . Check box that says send Nets Max client . Check box WiFi-Reloads driver 2 . Check Routing fix .You may need to change ssid too .
I am using Chrome with no user agent switcher and no longer get errors when trying to play youtube videos

I've been using Cyber Ghost as my free VPN and it's very decent. I've been considering paying for Private Internet Access, at $40 for a year with good reviews.
PIA is pretty awesome. very fast, both ping and down/up speeds. the vpn only adds approximately 30ms.
for free vpn on the phone, hideninja vpn works very well. pro version has more locations (like uk for bbc iPlayer). and it's supposedly lifetime vpn.
using jellybeer on an i317 with a $70 unlimited tmobile prepaid sim.
---------- Post added at 01:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:04 PM ----------
this is with PIA. the up was a little slow on this test. it's usually 10-20mbps. ping and down speed are normal. some servers are better at certain times. very easy to switch with viscosity for mac. i start the normal tether (settings>more>tethering&portablehotspot>portablehotspot) with no vpn on my phone (with a cm10.1 based rom), and then start the vpn on the computer. i didn't even know about the upsell message until i flashed a touchwiz rom.
So, picked up a kindle fire hd 7, and figured i'd give this a shot finally.
Running rooted stock, setup and execution was a breeze following the op tutorial.
I tried to get tethering added to my plan, but they said i'd lose my current awesome unlimited plan to get tethering added...so xda to the rescue.
Thanks!
Sprung for PIA. Here's a representative speed test with and wzithohut.d

Why do you get errors in YouTube using user-agent switching? I use user-agent spoofing with Chrome and can use YouTube, NetFlix and HuluPlus with no problems and no speed issues that often arise when using a VPN service. I can even play online action games while connected to LTE with 30-40ms pings. All this without any VPN use.
Here is my thread concerning tethering and user-agent use:

I used chrome with user agent switcher and every time I went to youtube I would get "can not play video at this time" also problems with any https website . That why I made this tutorial . Plus Tmobile can see you tether when you use a user agent other than an Android user agent . They also send the annoying text when they see you thether . Vpn prevents all that plus I don't appreciate TMO eyeing my internet traffic . If any one has problems with speeds using a vpn I would suggest setting up and ssh server . If you or any xda member would like me to make a tutorial an tethering via ssh server I can do that for you .

Strange, none of those issues ever occur using my methods described in my thread. I don't get texts from tmo so I don't think they monitor activity in the manor you mentioned or I would have been notified long before I hit the 200 gig mark. I've used somewhere around 250 over the last few months. No notifications, no throttling, no problem. I am interested in the ssh server, however. That tutorial would be great. Thanks for your input as it helps us both further our understanding of tmo's network.

Works great. Only issue I seem to have is with xbox live. I can connect and my nat setting show as moderate. This was normal when using the stock tethering app. However in Blops2 I am unable to connet to a game, it will put me into a searching lobby, it will just keep trying to find a game.. anyone else seen this?
Worst case I can just use the native app for xbox and this for computer tethering.

(Q) free wifi tethering

So I went to the (how to guide) here and it describes how to get it with the wifi tether app and being rooted... well ive done that mate.... and I check my t-mobile account and it still uses my 2.5 gigs of free wifi tethering.... is there another way?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
If you already have a plan with free tethering what exactly do you expect from this? If you use data, it's going to show up on your account as being used whether you are tethering or not.
I don't expect anything I just thought the WiFi tethering would show up on on my data plan which is unlimited. My tether plan is only 2.5 gigs plan. It does the same as the stock hotspot tethering. Which in turn renders that app "WiFi tethering" useless. Its no big deal just asking the guide said he could use unlimited WiFi tether and T-Mobile didn't charge him for unlimited use... that wasnt the case for me....

It works for all data going in and out of your phone. And it all depends on which vpn you choose. A lot of free ones slow down data speeds to keep it free. Paid ones do not.

If your with Tmobile... use the my tmobole account app
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
STEP 1
"STOCK ROM"
-download "1 click tether" from the market...this will force the internal tethering to turn on
OR
Run an AOSP rom, internal tethering is unlocked in aosp roms
STEP 2
once youve figured out step one, you should be able to tether, whether on aosp or tw ,it dont matter....only problem is, tmobile will soon block you because of your user agent on the computer
so you have two options...
1. download a browser on your computer that supports changing your user agent...chrome, firefox...ect...change the user agent to something other than windows...you can now use unlimited tethering on your browser.
NOW.....This will only give internet to the browser, not the computer globally...The only way to get global tethering on every program on the pc you'd have to set up a VPN...via the phone or via pc...VPN's are usually not free thou
My setup
-Running CM10 ROM
-Using the internal tethering option in the rom
-I use google chrome
-In google chrom i use this extension called "user agent switcher" https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/user-agent-switcher/lkmofgnohbedopheiphabfhfjgkhfcgf
-everytime i open google chrome i change the user agent to "safari on mac"
DONE
Yes try vpn hideman.
