I unfortunately installed the wrong version of google apps, and now when the phone boots up, i get setup wizard not responding. Of course I was too smart and didn't back up the rom in cwm. Sad that I can see my backups in twrp. I have the latest version of cwm touch and it will not usb mount to my computer so that I can add a file nor can I get an external sd card to mount.

Earlier today I flashed to a new rom and wanted to revert back using a nandroid backup - i tried to move my backups into clockwork folder so I could use clockwork recovery and thats when all hell broke loose
I ended up getting in an endless reboot and when I went into recovery my SD card wouldn't mount. I tried EVERYTHING including the RUU.exe - but no luck it wouldn't complete, SO I was able to add the PC36.IMG (or whatever the exact spelling is) to the SD and it restored that (I used the newest one Toast posted in the 2nd step rooting thread)
Now finally I'm back into android but I have no SD or USB support and again stuck.. Now when I try to reboot recovery I can't even use the update.zip because my phone can't mount the SDCARD within recovery or android. So now I have no idea what to do... Can anyone help? Should I try the RUU.exe on the computer again now that I'm back in android? I don't know if it will work because it seems I have no USB support - I can't ADB or anything.
My vote is you corrupted your SD card, and that it needs to be formatted. Reboot in to Flipz's recovery; There is an option in there to format and partition the SD card. Or, if you have a MicroSD card reader that you can use with your computer, pop it in there and I betchya the computer can't read it either. Format it with your computer as FAT32.
make sure usb debugging is enabled and RUU will work.
Strange issue here. I flashed CWM & CM7 + Gapps to my phone, however after that my phone would not read my sd card, so my friend put his sd card in my phone & bam it read it. I said okay maybe I need to reformat my sd card, which I did. Put it back in my phone nada. So we put his back in & sure enough it reads it. He placed CM7 + Gapps on his sd card, thinking we could just reflash. However when I go into recovery mode the sd card is not recognized. but it does recognize it when running the CM7 gui.
I noticed that when going into recovery mode I get numerous errors to name a few:
missing bitmap icon_clockwork
failed to open /etc/recovery.fstab
unknown volume for path /cache/recovery/command
I can still use my phone, download from the market, but cannot get my phone to recognize the sd card in recovery nor can I mount the device as usb.
Please help.
No one? I have read thru the various threads, but would like to prevent myself from having to unroot via Odin. Hoping there is an easier alternative.
Again I can get into the CM7 GUI, download from the Market & my sd card is recognized & mounted, but once I go into recovery, the sd card will not be read.
I've wiped cache, data, fixed permissions etc. etc. & still nothing.
P.S. If Odin is the only alternative then so be it. But just thought I'd get some feedback first
Update: Odin'd phone back to stock, rerooted using the 1Click method, installed the MIUI Rom, but could not get gapps to install, no biggie, as I really wasn't feeling the MIUI GUI anyhow.
Redownloaded the CM7 alpha4 rom from this site as well as the accompanying gapps.zip & decided to give this rom another go. The rom installed fine & loaded perfectly, however when going back into recovery to reflash gapps, my recovery menu was giving the same bs errors as noted in my first post. So something is a miss with the rom itself or I'm missing some step that allows the sd card to be recognized while in recovery. Do I need to do a sd card partition?
I did notice however, that after the 1Click root method the CWM menu was green (not to sure of the build #), then after installing the CM7 rom the CWM menu was orange with a different build #.
So as of now I Odin'd once again & I'm back at stock, until I can figure out which rom would suit me best.
Out of all the android phones I've had (all HTC btw), this Samsung Epic seems to be, IMHO, the most difficult one to get a decent rom working. On the plus side it's also the easiest to recover from a soft brick, which is reassuring.
As for the issue with the memory card, I can offer no help. I have had numerous problems getting ROMs to operate properly. Viper's Synergy ROM with the Genocide 1.0kernel works perfectly for me, however...maybe you should try that one. There are a "proprietary" apps that come with it (Viper's app launcher is probably the best I've ever seen) and they take great care to communicate well from what I can see.
Again, sorry I didn't directly address your problem, but I thought I would say something anyway.
Thanks jdtuttle & any help is much appreciated. I'll give that rom a try.
I'm having the exact same problem. No one seems to know anything about it so far. I had the same change in menu colors for cwm recovery screen same errors. Won't let me flash google apps or any back ups on my sd card. When the phone is running outside of recovery the sd card is fine will read write do everything it normally would
Ok, I really messed up. the phone was almost bricked, but I finely managed to
get back to Clockwork Recovery.
Now I want to restore my backup or update the rom again, but it says:
No files found.
it seems that the SD card is formatted or unreachable.
What can I do? Any ideas?
It's easy to send your favorite Rom to SD
go to CWM --->Advanced ---> mount USB when screen changed connect your device to PC and then your SD card will appear on monitor now you can put Rom on SD and after flashing the boot.img install rom using CWM.

I've tried that just now,
it says: "unable to open ums file"
when I click it.
Edit: ok I updated the recovery
and now the mounting works!
Downloading the new ROM now, wish me luck!
I am new here and I am scared I messed up my S3. I installed the CM 10.1 nightly build 12.18.12 yesterday and my file system is messed up. The original files that I had on my phone are hidden, I can't see them. I don't even get the option to look in the 0/ folder while browsing the internal memory, I don't see anything. In addition, I'm using a FAT32 formatted microSD but the phone won't store anything on it. When I plug the phone into my computer in MTP mode with the SD card installed, I can see the internal memory if I click on the SD card and nothing if I try to click on the internal memory. Without the card installed, nothing comes up. Most importantly, I have two clockworkmod recovery files on my internal memory that I can't access when I go into recovery, it says that it can't find them. I can see the folder, only with the micro SD installed even though everything in on the internal memory, if I go to install from zip and look for them. I don't know how to get clockworkmod recovery to see, access, and install the recovery to get my phone back to the way it was. PLEASE HELP!!!
Is it possible to just unroot and have my phone go back to "day 1" when I got the phone out of the box?
Same issues for me

I am having the same issues. I have tried to move files with the phone connected via USB to my computer and also though the file explorer on the phone and I can't. Not sure why CM 10.1 was set up to mess with the file formatting, etc, but it screwed stuff up. I have tried going back to CM 10 (which is awesome and very stable) but I don't have the right gapps and can't get the right ones installed...
Anyone have any ideas on how to return the files to the original locations?
There isn't a way for you to go back to day one unless you download the original ROM and flash it. Good luck get that installed at this point though...

To get back to day 1 just flash a stock rom from the stock rom thread in OG development using Odin. That will bring you back to either out of the box ics or newest jellybean update, depending on which one you choose.
So my phone is in a bootloop. I made a dumb mistake, and restarted my phone to be met with a bootloop. My question is - is it possible for me to get my files off of the phone before reinstalling/doing a fresh install? I have access to both download mode and CWM Recovery - I just have some files on here that I really need, and unfortunately, they aren't replaceable. Is there anyway for me to get them off of my phone? I'm running WFTN.
I've tried starting up CWM and backing up to external-sd, but every time I do I get a "can't mount backup path" error. So I go to Mounts and Storage and try mounting my external sd, but I get a "Error Mounting /external_sd!" message. Can anyone help me out?
Edit
Actually, I managed to get the files I needed. I needed some recordings off of the phone, and I was able to plug my phone into my computer via usb (in CWM) and it gave me access to the phone's internal SD card. So I suppose all that's left is actually re-flashing the ROM. I was running an older version of WFTN, I suppose i was due for an upgrade anyway.
However, I suppose my original question remains - is it possible to backup the files on the phone (without using the usb)? Is there a reason I was unable to mount my external sd card?
Just because you are flashing a rom doesnt mean your recordings or anhthing on your sd card is wiped when you flash a new rom. The exception being if you use odin to put a oneclick of a jellybean rom on. Then it wiped internal. And if you are worried about sd card just pull it out. Iirc I was always able to pull files from both internal and external while in recovery using el26 kernel. Not sure where the problem was. But glad to know you got your files.
