I wondering if any one has used any good email clients. The one on the stock android is good for personal use but falls really short for work purpose.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Good question, I am looking for the same thing because I use Road Runner. And man, t-Mobile jacked my phone up. They set up a filter and all my emails where sent to my phone as a text message. Now I can not find out how to fix it because sometimes my email works and sometimes it doesnt and I think that the filter is screwing everything up. I called them and they said that they deleted the filter, however it still sends my messages via text.
Super Annoying!!!
I saw some one mentioned k-9 Mail, its much better than the
One that comes with the phone. If there is one btter than that then please suggest.

How about Touchdown by Nitrodesk? I've been using it for a couple of years now and I like it.

In what way do you feel the stock app falls short for work? I use it for work everyday and it does everything I need it too. What features are you looking for in an email app that the stock one doesn't have?
Just curious, that's all.....
Well for one it does not foward attachments and also u can't clear the trash folder.

Odd. I forward mail containing attachments from my work account to my personal account all the time, and they forward just fine. And you can clear the trash folder. Select the account you want, hit menu, folders, trash and then select the messages you want deleted, and hit delete. Done.
I realize it might not be as convenient as some may want, but it does work.
One thing I've noticed with the stock gmail app is that you can't save attachements...unless I'm missing something but when I email a xls spreadsheet to myself it gives me a option to preview it but no save.
im using touchdown for now.
I need to be able to search email and the stock client does not allow for that
I've been using Seven (which is free) on WM for years. It's not nearly as polished on Android, but it's decent. I'm looking for alternatives and will give Touchdown a try.
I am trying to find a better sms alternative to stock sms app.. I hate how they made the sms threads and the text field box so huge you can see anything when your typing..
I use GoSMS. It's highly customizable and there are tons of themes for it in the market. I can't give any advice in anything else since GoSMS does exactly what I need so I haven't tried any of the other ones.
go sms, hands down.

I always liked handcent, lots of options
Go sms and handcent are great. Go sms with the edge.
Go SMS all the way. Love the themes and free built in SMS backup feature

I'd have to say go brand is the best. Not just SMS wise but best screen lock and themes. Its kinda like a mini playstore

+1 handcent
Didn't the go team steal people's private information?

Handscent. Go SMS has way too much clutter.
I am far an away best pleased with GO SMS. I have tried a few others, but GO SMS is IMHO opinion is the absolute best. It has the best theme options, and the pop-up is great!
Another vote for go SMS! Hands down the best I have tried. Like many others said tons of themes and so much customization!
well I have tried both Gosms and handcent, and they are both fast becomming bloatware, making them slower and slower IMHO..
currently using gosms as there no other really good one out there I can find, but I noticed tonight that it is now putting in more and more ads , so IF I can find one that lets me change the background AND NOT have those horrible bubbles in messages I will be moving away from gosms very fast.
+1 for go SMS. I used it when my MMS wasn't working on revolt ROM and it was the best I had tried.

Okay this isnt a complete solution for jb but if you use Facebook for alot of your numbers then this will work for you. Unfortunately for now haxsync doesn't sync numbers just pics, statuses, etc etc so what i did was use an app called super backup: sms and contacts and backup contacts in an ics rom that supports fb sync then flash the jb rom and restore contacts with the same app. You should have them all and it actually makes them into regular contacts so you dont have to use fb anymore for them. If you want hq pics then use haxsync or any of the other fb picture sync apps

Nice find, I wish I saw this while I was still on ics. I made a post about this a few weeks ago but didn't get much input
Thanks

Np and hey you can just backup your current setup and then flash an ics rom that has fb sync and go back to the backup. Itll take maybe 30mins max but its worth it if you need the contacts like i do

I might just use my old sgs2. Sync the contacts there and copy over to my nexus

that works too lol
Thanks for the info

Another workaround:
I was going to start a new thread on this, but since it's my first post I feared getting flamed..
So, here's the best workaround that I've come across for phone number syncing for Facebook on Jelly Bean..
1. Go ahead and sync your facebook contacts by clearing the Facebook app cache and adding your Facebook account to your phone. It will ask you to sign in, and then it will sync contacts without phone numbers.
2. As you try to dial someone's number and you realize that it's on Facebook instead of Google, open up the Facebook app and search for that contact by clicking the "three horizontal line" icon on the top left.
3. The contact will have a phone icon next to their name if they have their phone number stored on Facebook. Go ahead and click the phone and it will bring their number up in the dialer.
4. On the bottom right of your dialer, click the "three dot" icon and select "add to contacts". You know what to do from there.
It's not the best solution, but it's the best i've seen so far. You won't have all of your contacts at once, but you can search for the ones that you know right off the bat, and then search for them as needed later on.
Thats a really long process lol i have over 300 friends so that would take forever. My process saves you alot of time and has the added benefit of turning the fb contacts into regular Google contacts.
Also haxsunc doesn't sync numbers so alone it was useless to me lol

All of your facebook contacts can be dialed directly from Facebook. So just keep them on the facebook app until you need to dial a specific Facebook contact, and then take the extra 2 seconds and save it to Google contacts before you dial it.
Plus, I'm sure everyone doesn't need that weird kid from science class from the 7th grade's phone number. This way you can pick and choose who to add as you need it.
Even if there is eventually a way to sync every facebook contact, i much prefer this method.
Thank you for the tip
Hey everyone,
I have been going through the apps list of apps I have previously used or bought. I am getting to find replacements for contacts, dialer, messenger, email and whatever else.
I believe the extra power and memory we have really opens up some options some of us really did not have before with lesser phones.
So can we come up with some replacements that will work well with this phone? Some general instructions on set up and a link would be great if possible.
Still loving my Nexus 4!!! Still cannot believe I paid more for my last phone which was Galaxy S Plus.. I am so happy with this!! Now I just need to tweak a few things, mainly my email and contacts.
Thanks all!!!! I'm glad to know that I am not the only one that is obsessed with tech..

Try Handcent...
BTJ
Handcent user here also. Best and only app i use for messaging!!
Yeah, I have used those in the past actually. Ideally I would love something that manage contacts a little better and ties in with messenger and dialer.
Stock isn't bad really but I just think there is better and I wanted opinions. Some of the noon stock replacements really use tools of battery. Something that sips memory and battery is a requirement for me.
Thanks for the opinions dudes

How about exDialer? I used to use it before I had the N4. App includes a "search based" dialer and contacts.

I just wish google would add T9 dialing. That's the sole complaint I have about the stock apps.
replaced chrome w/ aosp browser
replaced email with enhanced email
replaced mms and voice with black inverted gapps
I really like the way gmail and the other stock email program sync with the phone. Contacts, etc are synced right when you add an account.
My issue at least regarding email is that I have many, many many accounts. I need to have at least 20 of them on my phone. This means multiple gmail accounts and multiple accounts on the other email program. I hate having to have 2 email programs running.
I have tried and bought many of the email apps, enhanced, IMO, k9, and the others but none of them worked well with this many accounts. Also, I need to have my email contacts synced like the stock apps.
My requirements are an email replacement that syncs contacts and can run multiple imap and pop accounts.
Battery life is also a major concern with this many accounts. Right more do not have these accounts auto syncing or pushing. I refresh manually. The problem with this is that I miss important emails.
As for the rest of the replacements I guess I am just looking to see of there is anything better than the stock dialer/contacts/mms.. The important thing for me is that all of these apps really have to work together. Dialer, contacts, mms, email... these all need to work as one. Is there as replacement that does this?
Thanks all

I'm using this Inverted Holo version of MMS with quickreply on AOKP. It should be compatible with any custom ROM I think. Looks beautiful and great functionality as well. check it out.

GoSMS w/ the emoji plugin.
I heard you get a lot of spam with that app?

I get a message or two month. Usually about a new theme they've added or some feature they've updated. Nothing intrusive, or annoying and its usually just a notification in that app that is quickly deleted.
I've been using it for about a year.

I like handcent...not sure what the downsides are to handcent compared to the others. I did try gosms a while back and wasn't impressed. I could give it another shot though.
I really don't have a lot of requirements for a messaging app. I don't do groups or advanced messaging. Even so, I find the stock messaging app extremely unappealing and not adequate for my minor needs.
Handcent here. Been using it since my original Droid days I think. Just fell in love with it. The only other messaging app that I didn't much mind was the stock one on my Galaxy Note 2, but I've since fallen back to the familiar. I find it functional and customizable enough for my tastes.

Handscent here as well... with the group messaging plug-in... got rid of the Emoji plug-in due to it messing with my MMS for some reason... maybe a combination of the two... Main reason I got Handscent was the color customization to match my theme.
I have been using Trillian since the before android. It has been the best way to monitor all my IMs. Different customers all like different IM services and this way I could cover them all.

I tried most mostly because there seems to be a growing requirement for emoji. pffft.
All non stock apps except for chomp scroll very poorly when moving and reading through the messages: go, handsent, etc. Chomp is the only one that scrolls smoothly. However, I cannot attach pics or vids - it crashes. contacting the developer said "fixing hopefully in a week" until then I just use stock app o if I need to send a mms. I'd use the stock app but its emoji is very limited. always a compromise isn't it?
Pansi SMS nice simple interface. I use my backup root to save MMS and sms

Thought I was the only one on this. I've been using bitesms on Iphones for years so I've been so used to it, so when I jumped ship and go with the GN2 naturally I had to find somethign similiar. You're right about mms though, but I use stock sms app for that purpose, so chompsms all the way.
Go sms with emoji plug in. Like all the different emojis. Also wife has iphone with ios6 and stock messaging wouldn't show pics of the emojis on her phone. Go sms shows with no problem.

Just wanted to give you guys an update. I have been using chomp sms for the past couple of days and love it. It's not as flashy as go sms is with themes but it make up for it without the constant text messages they send you. I also donated to the dev which got rid of the adds so it almost feels like a stock app. Anyways its a really great app if any of you are interested.
