I am rooted and have been denied update. Is this update really worth it??? I don't necessarily want to flash back to stock recovery, but are there any future reasons that I should???? What are some feelings....

Don't worry...
I think the cubed is working in a easy-to-flash zip package so you can install it via TWRP or CWM.
I updated mine just a few days ago. I used to get 12k on my Quadrant score. Now I only get 9k....

I may be the only one, But with only the VP update and no other changes my battery life dropped, So much so I'd like to remove the update.
I have unchecked every new option that may be running while I'm just using the phone and not the camera for video or pics.
In short... I don't like it.

Same thing here rizzo. I'm thinking of reflashing stock with no update. Its pissing me off that I only get 15hours now compared to 25 hours before. Same usage as before, not rooted as before.

Yup I updated. There was a period where I watched some youtube, browsed in several tabs ect. Over the course of about 14 hours that was about an hour an a half accumulated time then for 6 hours strait, forums browsing and reading on nook with the screen never going off. Had 20% left and posted in the forum then took an hour break. got about another hour after that of watching youtube kung fu movie before I was down to 5% and nedded to charge. Total out to just under 8 and a half hours on screen time. There were of course many interruptions such as short phone calls and texts in my 22 hours before I had to charge. My screen brightness was set low as I was indoors so I adjusted manually from 25 to 35 as needed. I did this test for my own benefit to see how long this battery will hold up under pressure of long trips. I was thinking of buying the zero lemon battery but after all the use I got on stock plus the super fast recharge time, I feel I dont need it. I realize that with screen going from 25-35 to 50-65 for outdoor use I will lose some battery time but I doubt it will add up to an hour. I've not been in an outdoor situation that called for more than 75% brightness.

I am one of the unfortunate souls who is experiencing terrible battery life due to the AndroidOS bug. I feel like I spend half my waking hours trying to figure out what is causing it and doing different things to my phone improve my battery life.
I'm definitely getting sick of it and while I realize that Samsung/Sprint may eventually come out with a software update that fixes the problem, I'm not sure I'm willing to wait since it could take months (and the issue was supposedly fixed for GS2 phones in 2.3.4).
At this point, I'm considering going back to the Moto Photon--it's battery life is simply amazing. My only issue with the Moto is its unusable camera.
Anyone else getting as frustrated as I am and considering jumping ship to another phone?
What have you done to fix it?
Are you saying that you still have the bug even aftera factory reset ?
Why not just take it back and have them give you a new one since you obviously have a defective phone?
Also how many hours are you actually getting out of the battery?
I don't see any other phone worth switching to and I have had them all. Each with their own specific problem. But this one here is as good as it gets

I've tried just about everything that has been mentioned in the AndroidOS/battery life thread (reset, wifi, autosync) but I'm still getting only 12 hours of battery life on a good day, 8 hours on a bad day
I might try exchanging the phone, but I'm hesitant to do so due to the LOS bug (I have not experienced this with my phone as of yet).
Honestly, while I love the phone in many other ways, I'm about to throw the thing out the window since 8 hours of battery life is simply not acceptable to me

That doesn't mean anything to me. What's the display on time? How good/bad is the cellular signal?
Exchange it bro. Ive had two of these phones so far and none had this problem. I'm getting like 24-30 hours battery with like 4-5 hours screen on time. This phone had awesome battery. Download an apps called better battery stats. This will show wakelocks and processes that are draining the battery. Good luck man.

On a good day, the display is on for less than 30-45 min. On a bad day, the phone display time is somewhere between 90-120 minutes.
I pulled 16 hours ojt of my battery yesterday with over 12 on wifi and i was at 40 percent. I have to use wifi at work as i have no signal and when i do get signal its roaming. I would say that my conditions at work are far from ideal but this phone is great. My old phone would die before 1130(evo shift).

mine doesn't seem to get the android os bug unless i'm on a custom kernel. 1 week stock, no problems, 3 days on custom problems each day, back to stock + root and no problems for 48 hrs.
i still have to be 100% sure that my phone didn't like the kernel though so another test will be coming up after a few more days of observation.

I had the issue with the stock kernel and custom kernels. I'm just going to hold out until we can get a AOSP build and hope that using as little of Samsung's code fixes it.

I'm on stock and have nothing out of the ordinary installed. Out of curiosity, do you have a google account with full sync turned on?
Lol 8 12 hours isn't bad with a stock battery and 4.5 inch screen. If you are in a poor reception area it could be that. Otherwise you have alot of Apps running in the background.
My advice : root it and extended battery.

I average 15-20 hours easily on a charge, with a full sync google account
Everything Sync'd Listed below:
- Google+ Notifications
- Music
- Books
- Contacts
- Gmail
- Picasa Web Albums
- Calendar
If anything else can be Sync'd I have not run across it. I also have my Tapatalk set to notify me of PM's, and updates to Subscribed topics, I removed the accuweather widget because it only updates every 3 hours and installed Weatherbug Elite and set it to update every 30 minutes. On top of all that I browse the web regularly to visit sites that are websense'd at work, and I play dungeon hunter 2, and asphalt 6 on my lunch break. At home the phone sits on my desk until its time to pass out, only used for my Rift Mobile authenticator.
This is a real bug, with android
the system/0 process goes crazy and chews up the battery.
I get about 12 hours with everything disabled (other than gmail sync) and suspend/0 chews up battery
well documented here
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=16721
it's a gingerbread issue, if you haven't experienced on the galaxy, you will soon
I'm also considering returning this great phone with crappy software until google releases a version of android that works.
by that time there may be a new "best android phone"
Why does the bug seem to affect the gs2 more than other phones? For example, I've never seen it mentioned on the photon forums

I can't figure out what is going on. my battery meter shows the Screen as first then Android System next at 22%....Easily dropping 5-10% per hour. Help!!

Have you adjusted anything with your brightness? You may have accidentally turned off auto adjustment if you were using it previously. If that's not it I'd suggest a hard reset. If that cures it you can most likely chalk it up to a recently downloaded app.

When you get a chance run the battery down to 1% then power off and let charge for at least 20 min after light turns green. ..you'll probably see immediate improvement
i've had to move google play services as a user app with titanium and then greenify it. all my devices started getting big time standby drain last month from google play services.
i do have the donation version of greenify, but i didn't feel like installing xposed to use it.

yes rooting will void your warranty but there are methods you can do to unroot it and have it go back to stock rom. I, as well as most of the people in this community get better battery if you root your rom and install a custom kernel, you will get better battery life.
one app that I found that I use daily is 2x battery pro. it's not free though.. there is a setting on the app that lets you turn off any background data while the phone is idle; you will still get calls and texts though. this will give you longer battery life. when you turn your phone on data will come back on. I get around one day and a few hours from the charge. check it out man. might help you..
I love everything about the tablet, but I am strongly considering returning it because the battery is so bad.
I was watching a movie last night, and I noticed that I had 70% left... and after the 2 hour movie I was down to less than 15%. That can not be the norm. That's horrible.
I'm thinking about rooting it to a custom ROM and/or returning it.
Any ideas or suggestions on this?

That is definitely not normal. I've had mine for almost a year and even on stock ROM I was getting 5 1/2 hours (I play a lot of games) screen time with a day or two of battery life. It's mostly stock rom so it very stable, the main engine is the Xluco custom kernel. This rom is using the latest NJ1 the latest stock rom (which is the best to date stock rom) slim (debloated), so your device would give you the best of both world, battery life, performance and stability. I have done the following in order to add an extra 1 to 1 -1/2 hrs to my device.
1) Installed Glowing battery (set to extreme), no need to play around, it does it job well
2)Go into application running and freeze all un-needed service/apps. If you have question about what you can freeze from your list just ask here. Currently I only have these running:
Glowing battery lifesaver, Device test, Google Services(3), com.sec.android.app.FlashBarService, Google Play Music, Snote and Samsung keyboard.
3) screen brightness set to 30%, only crank up when needed.
Good luck

So recently my battery life went from absolutely amazing to terrible (just went from 100% to 83 percent with 30 min SOT and 3 hrs off the charger) does anyone know a good app that will tell me what the hell is digging through my battery life so bad? The only thing I have connected is the android wear watch, and surely that wouldn't hinder my battery life that much, would it? Thanks to anyone that replies, I just want my old battery life back.

Mine has been terrible since the NK3 OTA as well. It's a shame that they couldn't just leave it alone. I was enjoying it so much more when I was squeezing 5 hours SOT.
after taking the NK3 update, my battery life was still amazing, until tonight. I didnt update anything (no app updates and no new apps installed) but my battery went from 50% to 30% in about 10 minutes. I cleared cache and rebooted and it went from 30% to 0% in about 15 minutes. I dont understand why all of a sudden, it died so quickly. Only thing I can think of is that I switched to ART about two days ago. It was fine until this evening, when the phone completely fell on its face. It was running extremely slow, even after I killed all running apps, thats when the battery dropped. I'm switching back to dalvik and we'll see what happens.

OK guys, here is an odd question. What do you do for a living? Is there anyone that would benefit by listening in to your device? I know it sounds weird, but your phone may be active when you think it isn't, including the camera, mics, GPS etc. I get these unexplained battery drains too, and my wife has the identical device and near identical app setup (and we both have the update) and her battery is much better. Its one of only two things i can think of.
Here's the other: not using the supplied charger. I regularly use other chargers when my wife refuses to do so.
Anyway, just my mad ideas

In all honesty I went through and found a bunch of apps I personally don't use to disable, such as instagram and some other apps such as that, you may also want to see if your mobile signal is having issues or your wifi is having issues, both those items will cause battery drain, I turned off a bunch of apps and my phones been unplugged for almost 6 hours and I have over an hour of that as screen time, I'm down to 88%, I work at att so I'm always showing my phones off and demoing them, I disabled 21 apps I have no use fore and my free ram is just about a gig, you just gotta dig a bit to find what's always on.

not sure what you mean by bad.. every one's usage of the phone is different.. i was getting around 4 hours OST.. when using the phone regularly.. playing CoC, answering emails, whatsapp, messaging...
sometime i got 3 hours.. some time i got 5.. some time it ran away so i had to reboot.
i believe about 75% that disabling some of the software did help with battery life while the phone is sleeping. but i've only recently disabled bunch of stuff
I received my S6 Edge on Wednesday and rooted it the same day via Ping Pong. I'm on G925TUVU1AOCG. Is that even the latest version? Anyways, battery life is literally ****. I can't get more than 2 hours of Screen on Time. Even my Galaxy Nexus from 2012 gets at least 2+ hours.
Is this because I'm not on the latest version, rooted, or something else people have experience with?
I've had horrible battery life since I've rooted using ping pong this week. I don't think my phone is going into deep sleep but haven't checked it yet. It drains fast when not being used.

I went through this issue with my first S6. Re-root and download better battery stats - or CPU Spy. See if your phone is going into deep sleep. Mine was constantly kept awake by lli_pm_wlock. I couldn't find ANY information about it on the internet - but it was keeping the cores active and burning through battery like crazy. It would occasionally enter deep sleep, but only for a few minutes at a time.
I ended up returning the phone and getting my new S6 Edge. I tried everything - factory resets, flashing stock firmware via Odin, basically everything possible without tripping KNOX with a custom kernel.
My battery life has been awful. Specially after rooting with Ping Pong and specifically last night. 100% at 10PM, and at 11AM with 58 minutes of on screen time, the battery was at 13%. That is just horrible. Worst battery life I have ever gotten out of the phone.
Pains me to say it, but if the battery doesn't improve by unrooting it, and waiting for a future update to 5.1, I'll most likely change to a LG G4.

If you have it rooted install Better Battery Stats and figure out the problem. If it's a wakelock, the problem is it's just not going to sleep. Something is keeping the CPU active even when the screen is off and nothing is going on. It's a common problem on the rooted phones - but usually PingPong Root doesn't have the issue. Enter recovery (turn off - then power, vol up, home at the same time) and clear the cache. Reboot and run BBS for a while.

I also have the same experience but instead I just keep my phone on Ultra Saving mode
It's been really difficult for me to try to drain my phone to see my average screen on time.
But is this normal? I'm not sure what is a decent Deep Sleep percentage.
Btw: This is after I unrooted without factory reset.

Yea we're having very similar issues. I would try the G4, but the Edge is too beautiful!! This is the first time I've gotten a phone so soon after release, so I'm probably gonna stick it out for a month or 2 and wait for bug fixes.

So I purposely didn't charge it last night, and you can tell it has really really bad standby time.

Try disabling WiFi or set it to keep it on only when plugged in.

That is not normal. Backup your data and flash stock firmware with SmartSwitch then restore what you want. See if that makes your battery last any longer.

I had horrible battery life when I got it out of box. It wouldn't last more than 5 hrs with very little use. After I flashed stock firmware with SmartSwitch, Battery+ RAM Usage issue got solved. Now I get whole day with single charge. I take my phone out from charger by 7 AM and by the time 10 PM in night, Phone would still have 35-40% battery left. I get many emails [50+], 2hrs of GPS+Music streaming + random facebook & Instagram and even after this, I get good battery life. So I would 1000% recommend that you do a flash stock firmware with SmartSwitch.

I tried using SmartSwitch and unfortunately, battery life was only a tiny bit better. However, I started getting a bunch of force closes, and the phone became laggier than before. I would try it again, but it's so much work resetting up my phone! ...especially without root.
So I ordered the G4. Hopefully I'll be getting the Note 5 in a few months .
