Alright, so I know some of you are probably going to say "just send an e-mail!," but it's a bit inconvenient (not to me personally, but maybe to the person I am trying to send it to) for them to open up their e-mail just to see an image when I could just send it as an MMS through my default SMS app.
I was wondering, is there any way to fix this? Whenever I send an MMS the quality just gets destroyed by compression, which is annoying when you have a decent, in my opinion, camera that takes quality photos but can't be shared through mms because of compression. I've tried using alternate mms apps like GoSMS (it sends the people a link when the file is uploaded which is annoying, though it is full quality) and ChompSMS; when I change the limit, Sprint just rejects the image even though ChompSMS says it sent (which they do provide a disclaimer for in the settings).
Is this just something to do with Android or is it on Sprint's end? I feel like Sprint compresses the images for their network, but it's really stupid in my opinion to have a good camera on a phone for no reason because you can't even share the photos properly. Even over Wi-Fi the images look like total crap when sent in MMS or even uploaded to instagram/facebook. I have to upload them to Dropbox and upload them to facebook or wherever from my laptop if I want the normal quality out of my camera.
I do not believe Sprint compresses the images as the images get compressed before sending. It's more of the stock app issue. I have no issue sending big images using a 3rd party sms app (Tencent)

So it's an issue with the stock app on every version of Android? I don't think I remember having this problem when I was on stock android back on Gingerbread or even ICS (custom roms). As far as I can remember, it's only been happening to me while on a JB Rom, stock or not.

From what I researched its only on 4.1+ ROMs in general.

Yeah, I read somewhere that it wasn't introduced until Jellybean came out, but I don't really see the reasoning behind it. Even on the stock rom it does it, we should at least have the option to turn it off.
What are some good sms apps that don't try too hard to look like the iOS messaging app and allow users to send uncompressed images through MMS that you would recommend? I couldn't find tencent, only Handcent, but I didn't like that one when I tried it. I've tried Chomp and GoSMS as well.
I meant Handcent. Oops.
Well the only ones that I know of are Go SMS, Chomp, and Handcent.

Hmm, I've used Sliding Message Pro I think it was called, but I don't remember seeing any settings for MMS quality or anything like that. I do know that GoSMS would send people a link instead of the image, which would then open up their browser and they could see the picture and that when setting the max to 5mb it was just rejected by Sprint all together.
Guess I'll have to keep looking or go back to ICS/GB. :\
Thanks for the help, though.
I myself don't like using handcent cause it just looks childish. I only use it to send pictures though. I use the stock app for everything else.

Exactly, that's why I strongly dislike using any 3rd-party messaging apps. They all have poor design.

I'm going to start this off by saying that I'm using Cyanogen Mod 6 and I've wiped between every nightly and before installing RC2.
The AOSP messenger that comes with Cyanogen is great. In fact, it's nearly perfect and that's why I'm going to the bother of making this thread. With every release of CM6 for the Evo, I have been unable to send messages longer than 160 characters. It seems that GSM networks can take large messages and split them up before sending them to the recipient. However, the Evo runs on Sprint's CDMA network. CDMA networks unfortunately don't split messages up well. The stock HTC Sense messenger app sidesteps this problem by manually splitting the messages before sending them out. Unfortunately, cyanogen's messenger doesn't have an option for message splitting.
I know this is a small thing since most text messages aren't very large, but it is incredibly annoying. Even worse, if I accidentally try to send one, I am unable to send anymore messages until I get an error messages a few minutes later. Strangely, this problem doesn't seem to affect everyone. In fact, it seems to be dependent on location. On vacation, I was able to send a large message, but I can't when I'm at home.
Can anyone else running CM6 test this to see how it works for you? I know I could switch to Handcent SMS since they have an option to split messages, but I love the look and feel of the AOSP messenger.
I'm having the exact same issue. I'm thinking about getting away from CM6. Too many weird bugs, like the voice mail.
Its a problem with cm6. I use handcent. You can set it in options to split texts unlike the stock in cm6. I thought something was wrong with the rom with freezing or my reception. Its not. Its the SMS program. I also made handcent look like the stock SMS. Instead of the bubbles. No more worring about freezing after I go over. Don't know why there isn't a setting for this in stock or somewhere on phone. Since most if not all the other SMS do this on their own or has a setting for it. Lame...

You can change alot in handcent. Instead of bubbles can do the threaded style like stock. Change color on everything to match stock. Just wish put a little more space between the messages.. other than that looks the same except the top part where all the messages from everyone you received or sent to is different than stock and can't change. Play around with it. I was exactly like you. Love stock. Even switched to fresh new rom and was on there for few days. Wentbon cm6 topic and someone suggested hamdcent and change the options to look stock. Gave it a try. Not exactly like stock but close and don't worry about freezes..

Thanks, I will try Handcent now.
Uhg. This has been addressed a million times. It is *not* a bug in CM6. The stock AOSP messenger app *does not split messages* The stock HTC messages does. Handcent does. This is like saying it's a bug that Twiteur doesn't split your tweets up automatically.
I wish they'd add this functionality, sure, but it's NOT a bug.
My advice is to either use a 3rd party app (I don't like any of them, personally,) go back to using a Sense based ROM or to just simply use e-mail if you can't be brief in your SMS messages. Remember, the first S stands for *SHORT*
Just saying.
Cyanogen did NOT like make the messaging app. People keep trying to blame Cyanogen for this and that is incorrect.
Its the stock messaging app for Android. This is not a bug!
I understand some peoples frustration with this but stop blaming cyanogen for this! If you want to blame someone then blame Sprint for using CDMA.
I don't like the fact that the STOCK email app doesn't do exchange HTML email! Do I blame Cyanogen? NO!
I would have to buy Touchdown from the market to have HTML email. Maybe one day CyanogenMod might add it who knows but it is what it is.
Download Handcent or whatever from the market or load another ROM geez!
Having said that there are MANY users myself included that send 160+ txt messages just fine with Cyanogen, myself included. Which would lead me to believe its something not related to the stock messaging app.
MrDSL, I'm using handcent and after the helpful post from other users explaining what was going on, I have corrected the issue. You must admit, that Cyanogen doesn't handle everything perfect. I've flashed Fresh and the rooted Stock and I never had the same issues I've had with Cyanogen, such as the voice mail and the text message limit. So before you think everyone is attacking your bible of a rom, you should take a step back and breathe.
I've read a lot of your post in the past and you are a very helpful person here to everyone, but you shouldn't get so defensive.
Landmine: Fresh and rooted stock are both Sense based roms. CM is an AOSP based rom. The AOSP messaging app does not auto-split sms messages. Cyanogen didn't write the app. As said before, it's not a bug.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Again, I'm not saying it is a bug with Cyanogen, but stating that you must be able to understand where the idea is coming from when people are using Sense based roms and having issues with Cyanogen.

This topic is solely about txt messages over 160..Thats all I have responded to. Does cyanogenmod have problems? Well of course it does I never implied it didn't.
What I am correcting is this is not a bug or a fault of the ROM. Nothing more nothing less.
The only reason this doesn't happen in sense ROM's is because HTC has their own messaging app that seperates them. So using Handcent with cyanogen is no different thats all.

We do and its exactly why we are trying to inform people of the correct information. We may be a bit harsh sometimes I'll give you that
I can't stand the "go send a email" comments. Depending on the words and the size of the words its easy to pass the 160 mark in a text and not really say that much. Unless you do cuz, u, etc.. I like to fully spell words out.. except definitely for some really reason I do def... some people don't really have much to say and just text. While texting you think of more to say or something pops up and keep texting than you would otherwise on the phone. Or its just me everyone is different.

Anyone? It seems no one will ever comment on the posts I make at their forums? I am testing cyanogen 7.1 out for a bit.
Some background info. Doubled wiped everything except sdcard. downloaded a fresh cyanogen 7.1 and flashed it. I have the GPS fix, and the gapps thing flashed with tiamat 4.0.8
So can someone tell me how to either fix this or why it does this?
This is a huge dealbreaker.. It compresses whatever photo i try to attach and it losses quality of the picture... I like the stock android and having to use handcent to send my mms seems like a *WTF* should i do this moment...
Apps like Handcent and Go SMS are better than the stock messaging app anyway. Why would you be willing to throw away the entire ROM over the messaging app when you can use more powerful messaging apps that don't compress the image AND have more customization options?
I've used stock CM, Handcent and Go SMS. By far my favorite one is Go SMS. Way better than the one that comes with CM.
I have used them both. I dislike them. Its just the feel. And the popups I just dislike the whole thing even after i messed with the settings to get rid of what i dont like. The options arent there and i do dislike them.. Also it wont send multiple split messages it freezes my ability top send messages and i need to reboot my phone....
And the Messaging app isn't the only issue.
Btw not my first or second time using CM either..

Huh? I don't get any pop ups whatsoever on mine. Not quite sure what you mean. And what options are you looking for? Out of all the ROMs I've tried CMseems to have the most flexibility and most customization options. What exactly are you looking for in a ROM? Handcent and Go SMS also provide more flexibility and customization options than the stock messaging app. Let me know what you're looking for and maybe I can point you toward a ROM that fits.

Its not that I'm looking for felxibility i just want to get my mms to stop sending at low resolutions.
It may be the user agent but every one of them makes me receive a pic at 8XX by ^XX resolutions..
I just want the stock one to have correct mms. And preferably a mms with a user agent for my phone or a equivalent phone. I have been searching for days and no one seems to post a fix. All the fixes seem to be for tmo for what i can find :/
Well I understand that you want your stock messaging app to work properly. However, I don't know a means to directly resolve the problem. Test with Handcent/Chomp SMS/Go SMS, reflash your ROM/kernel, update your radio, wimax, nv, etc., and if worse comes to worse....completely unroot your phone back to bone stock. Seems ridiculous that something that drastic is needed to fix your issue. But I did that as a last resort for my phone and it fixed my 2 month long SMS/MMS issue that I had been having.
Here OP try this. Is splits and the limit is big
http://db.tt/eOzGdVB2
Work out for you?
My phone saves picture attachments as imagejpeg_2 and I have to change the file name every time so it doesn't overwrite the default imagejpeg_2 picture.
Is there anyway to disable this or make it so it will automatically saves as imagejpeg_3, imagejpeg_4, imagejpeg_5, etc. My friend has the regular Epic with the keyboard and his seems to save the pictures that way.
stock messaging app?
I couldn't tell you, I've never used it. Even with my first Android half a forever ago (Samsung Moment, *shudder*) it only took me 10 minutes to stumble upon Handcent SMS, and I've never used anything else...I should probably get the pay version. I love that goddamned app.
Though Go makes awesome stuff, so, I'm sure GoSMS is pretty good too...
...and doesn't the stock messaging app also compress and down-scale outbound pictures so much that they are nearly useless?

Yes, it's the stock messaging app.
+1 to this. im using the stock msg app and it always defaults to that label. anyway to fix that doesnt include going to a 3rd party app?
Yeah, I hate this problem it has to be a bug. Does anyone know if its been reported?
+1 happens to me also, default messaging app
Same here.. On my evo 3d, stock, or my preferred app: go sms pro, it names all my mms attachments as: imagejpeg_2. Jpg, or imagejpeg_2_3. Jpg etc etc
Originally thought this was a go sms issue, but does the same under. Stock messaging app.
Dont know if this has been discussed alrrady, but I think i found a workaround fix for the blurry mms on 2.3.6. Download handcent and go to Settings> Application Settings> Default Messaging Application and set to MMS

Before I go into a long primer below, I still recommend E-Mail for sending a pix. We have smartphones and we have Gmail, so educate others into using this method for the best quality in a picture sending experience. But, for those that insist on MMS.....see below.
As far as I know and have been doing, you just use Handcent period. Handcent does not over compress the pix, so they are larger to begin with and therefore less blurry (or not blurry) to begin with. 99% of the ROMS based on 2.3.6 and using WiFi calling seem to NOT allow sending or receiving with WiFi calling enabled. (TMobile states at least in a tech support ticket to me they know this is an issue, BTW) So...turn off, WiFi calling, use Handcent and it will download/send etc. No reboot required. And you don't need to change anything in that application settings to turn off stock mms. If you go into Handcent send settings and use 1.2Mb mms sizes instead of 1.0Mb, the sizes will be as high as 600-850Kbs on average, depending on what you started with. But larger files take longer to send or receive, obviously. With 1.0 Mb mms settings enabled in Handcent send settings, I typically see 128kbs file sizes which is typically fine for mms messaging. This has always worked for me without doing the CM7 mms.apk shuffle btw also. I hope I covered everything. Oh, obviously if more than one messageing app is in residence, you need to turn off notifications for the ones that you are not using, unless you don't mind redundant notifications
Lastly, it's been hit or miss on whether 2.3.6 based wifi calling Roms will work leaving wifi calling enabled. The Zombie 2.x ROMs had been working for me with WiFi calling enabled, but even on that one, occasionally I get the message that the network is not available blah blah message and it won't send or receive. But turning off wifi calling is always the fix and use Handcent, for pix that are NOT over compressed.

I have no idea why it doesn't work for you. But to say BS is beneath your normal replies, IMHO. Here is a test shot screenie I'm posting using Handcent. Not sure which ROM. I believe at the time, I actually had to reboot to get my WiFi calling back to work since you can see the icon has that reddish color, meaning it was not working correctly. The few times this has happened to me, a reboot fixed this. I believe I was getting one of those erroneous sim card not correct messages. I do have a prper sim card. On a few slect times, it will get that message for some strange reason. And this has happened with more than one of the proper new sim cards since I already had TMobile replace mine the first time it happened. Again, a reboot fixes. If this is BS, then explain my message size properties? And it was not blurry either.

I will try to bemore consistent in exact ROM, kernel, MMS apk used if not stock etc etc when posting a test shot etc. I honestly believe we see too many inconsistencies since T-Mobile says it's an issue, so the added variable of a Network issue just adds to the confusion and test results. Just my opinion.

OK...I did a complete clean install of the Zombie 2.2 ROM since I know this was an original work 2.3.6 based ROM not copied from Juggernaut etc etc. My apologies to anyone that may be offended by this, but I know for a fact that this ROM works for whatever reason with the following parameters.
First, after the complete clean install and ONLY setting up WiFi for WiFi calling as well as my Google account. I only installed Handcent as well as a freebie screen shot program. No Titanium backups or anything to muddle the situation. I left Handcent stock. Did not touch any settings. Using the stock mms file as well as stock kernel. First with regards to blurry mms. I am posting a screen shot of the received mms I sent to me. Using the Tennis racquet here as a decent picture for showing that there is no blurring of the shot. Next is the properties of the file to show compression based on stock Handcent settings which again, I did not alter at all, but I know Handcent does use 1.0Mb mms file sizes.
What is nice with this ROM is that you CAN have WiFi calling enabled which allows an almost instantaneous send/receive of a picture instead of the normal wait time with any significant sized attachment.
I am not showing pix from using the stock messaging app, since it did compress my test shots down to 26kb sizes on average. Viewing was ok, only because there was NO blurring. Bottom line so far..the Zombie 2.2 ROM is the only ROM so far for me that has zero blur, allows WiFi calling to be enabled and working with a third party or stock messaging app, but is the one rom that at least for me along with Handcent, allows for wifi calling to be used with no blurring and really nice minimal file compression.
I know the following has been mentioned by others besides me. It just seems that the Juggernaut ROM was probably the first on the scene here that used 2.3.6 and all the others that followed, UP to the Zombie ROM, seem to have the same issues. I'm not a developer so I can't comment on the source material being used for the ROMs here. But the OP for Zombie has basically stated his work is all original and since his works with Wifi calling and the third party Handcent app, some conclusions have to be drawn from why is his ROM working and all the others seem to have the problem. Lastly, just for fun, I did install an new just posted Skyrocket ROM from the ATT thread just for the heck of it. SKYICECREAM RC6.zip. The stock mms app I thought would actually work, since it didn't seem to compress much at all. But after receiving the files I tested, it did end up compressing as well as providing extremely blurry file results.
Sorry for the long post, but this backs up basically a few other posts on other threads I have made in the past week or so as well as another user that came to the same conclusion as me WRT the Zombie ROM. Will provide the OP name after I post this
EDIT: jlaigo2 is the Zombie developer. BTW I was NOT wearing my glasses when I took the pix of my racquet. The original pix was not super sharp, so my applogies for using a slightly off focus test shot. But this is not a blur as we have seen with the MMS issues here.

It is definitely clear. But when I send myself pics they are always clear. Soon as someone else sends me a pic it's blurry. Ill flash the stock rom I posted and do some research. Its the absolute closest to stock as it hasn't been doedexed or anything.
Edit: still blurry. Handcent or not. I really don't understand. people have reported in my thread that mms is clear on this rom but it never has been for me. Idk

My only comment back would be my tests of clean installing that Skyrocket ROM and the jpgs I sent to myself were extremely blurry, which is at least for my own testing doesn't follow that sending to myself is always clear, as is for your own testing. IDK either....Confusing at best, but at least for me, I consistently have the same results wrt the Zombie ROM vs any other 2.3.6 based ROM.
I think I may have found the issue. I changed the max size and user agent on the mms_config.xml.
I'll post the apks I tweaked myself for Jugs4.1 and the ICS themed Mms.apk for Jugs4.1 from the ICS Complete package theme.
I confirmed they worked on my phone by sending myself MMS's from other phones. Hope this works for you.
make backup of your current Mms.apk just in case you have issues you can revert
adb push into /system/app/Mms.apk (basically replace your Mms.apk with one of the ones attached)
reboot if necessary
I haven't tested with any other ROMs besides Jugs4.1 so I can only say it's working for Jugs4.1
Also, sending yourself a large MMS may still cause the compression, but at least now you should be able to receive MMS from other phones without them being compressed to ~19K.

Nice. I'm using the Zombie 2.2 ROM. I also test just now using the ICS mms file you posted. I installed it using root explorer copying to system/app. Fixed permissions and renamed it Mms.apk just in case it needed to run with out changing the name. Rebooted. At first it looked like it was going to compress a pix down to 26kb when using the stock messaging app, so I first used Handcent, with wifi calling enabled and 1.0Mb mms settings. That worked fine. I then went and opened up the stock messaging app. Sent the same file to myself using the stock message app. Attached shows no blur as well as 591kb sized pix. And it was almost instantaneous with wifi calling enabled and the Zombie Rom.
EDIT: At least wrt sending to myself from my phone, Handcent still is the only app for me that leaves compression to a min. If I send a new pix using stock app, it still seems to compress down to 25kb approx. Guess I need to test with another phone sending to me to know for sure

Glad it worked!
I may have named the files incorrectly since you tried the ICS one and it's not themed. Woops

No problem. BTW didn't want to confuse 591 vs 605Kb. Different test with pix changed to slightly different compression, for whatever reason. So disregard the exact numbers. Will borrow one of my family members phones when I can to test this out from another account to me. Haven't used Juggs ROM in a while. Assuming it's 2.3.6 based and wifi calling, does having wifi calling enabled work for you when sending or receiving mms. For me, ONLY the Zombie ROM can work with WiFi calling enabled.
Hey guys I just want to have people's opinions about the above apps. I have S3 and have been using my stock messaging app with SMSpop up to handle the notifications when I receive texts. Lately I've been reading about these two messaging apps and I have been interested in trying them especially because I want emoji support (I hate my iPhone friends lool). Anyways tell me what messaging app you use and why you love it.
I know what someone will say maybe you should try them out and do research. I have seen review videos for both apps, but I don't really have the time to try them out one by one. I'd rather read reviews than try them.
If I do install a 3rd party messaging app I can keep SMSpop up? Or do the 3rd party apps take care of those functions as well? Such as personalized LED lights per contact and custom text tone for each contact?
thanks for your time and recommendations.
:good::good:
I also get paranoid installing and deleting things in my phone because if it slows down I feel like the program installed a file that didn't delete when I uninstalled. I know I'm paranoid but I know both apps use ads to support their free version.
I have used handcent on all my android phones. I've tried go sms and chomp sms but I always end up back woth handcent. I don't remember if the other two had pop up text, but handcent does. I'd suggest just try each one for a few days and see which one you like best.

Honestly... You do have time. Ha. Both handcent and chomp will receive your messages. And it only takes a couple seconds to install... If you install it receive messages and end up not liking it un install and try the other, they're not going anywhere and having it won't halt your daily life. So you absolutely have time to try each out if you desire. And if you watched a lot of video reviews some of these questions should have been answered... Personally I used to always use handcent mostly because of the feature to use a password to access texts. But I also like it as a texting app

Used Handcent for a long time, but then my wife got an HTC 8x (Windows mobile) and my daughter an iPhone 5 w iOS6, and neither of them could see my emojis; I tried all three " how to encode emojis" settings in Handcent, none made a difference. Even though including emojis isn't exactly a deal breaker , I like fiddling with apps so I tried Go SMS Pro - worked fine with emojis, but access to Quick Text was cumbersome (needed several taps). So now I am using chompSMS - emojis work fine, access to quick text is easy (though it's called "templates"). The only thing I don't like is that all three SMS apps have outgoing messages on the right, incoming on the left. For some reason (don't really understand it myself !!) I prefer it the other way around. You can make that switch in Handcent & Go, but not in chomp.....
I honestly don't recommend any of the above apps unless you have a slow phone. I'd use GO SMS Pro, fully featured and flies off the handle. It pops up text messages too, and has a free add on where you can use and see all iOS 6 emojis.

Are you rooted? If you are just use this link:

I don't know what happens when you flash straight up but I manually unzipped on phone and placed files in correct location while backing up originals. This will give emoji in stock app so you can your current setup and still have emoji!
I have used handcent for a long time on many different devices. I have tried other apps, GoSMS and Chomp, and have always returned to handcent. I like the privacy inbox and the fact that it does not run as a service like GoSMS. I do like GoSMS, but find it ridiculous that you can not disable it as a service.
Also, handcent has a setting to change its priority allowing security and location apps like Cerberus and Androidlost to work properly.
Thanks guys
I've used all of them for a while now. I decided to stick with Chomp sms its basic but works really well hasn't crashed and my battery has seen no change. Even MMS I feared would appear when I used this app did not surface so overall it was a nice experience and I am sticking to it. I wish I had more friends so I could test out the group message but if its something I don't use a lot I am not gonna worry if it works 100% correctly.
IMO GO SMS is the best for functionality and themes. Only thing I don't like about it is that every time I send MMS is resizes the crap out of it whereas stock handles it pretty good but then again it could be my fault for not changing or changing something in the settings.
i use handcent as well. love the popup even on the lock screen. you can read and reply without unlocking your phone, good assortment of themes and lots of settings
chompsms. The rest either don't work or full boatware (cough cough go sms)

I heard rumors about that as well. I also heard GoSms isn't optimized for OS higher than Android Ginger Bread...

+1. Never had any issues with Chomp. And the main person I text (my wife) has an iPhone 4s that I jailbroke and is running Chomp's iOS version which is a jailbroken app called BiteSMS. Emojis/MMS work perfect between the two of us.
I'll just leave this here...

I've read mixed reviews of messages +. What do you find so good about it? I use the stock tw messaging app right now.

I've used stock mms since I got my phone, and believe me I tried gosms as well as handcent but I still kept going back to stock. gosms was too bloaty like a previous poster mentioned while handcent has that ugly gingerbread feel to it. stock looks and feels slick and has just the right amount of customization and not overloaded with features like gosms.
Then i tried messages+ (in addition to contacts/dialer/call log+) and oh man. It has the same slickness as stock and I just really love the UI. its not laggy at all, it feels as though this should have been the stock mms app. Oh and it has the AOSP popup feature.
everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is mine. if your a day over 15 and you use a stupid sms replacement then you need to look deep into your soul because this is srs bizns.
the simplicity and beauty of aosp's app is what set's it apart. if google could do anything to improve it i would be impressed because imo its perfect
the other ones are garbage. not even a fair comparison because the other one's are for children.
GO SMS ftw. And yes it does have pop up text and its very customizable.

I personally use GoSMS. It has a few features that other's do NOT... Like the ability to have seperate & customizable MMS receive settings (mmsc, proxy, port, etc) custom user agent, and change the way it resizes MMS pictures and what the maximum size can be - all separately and independently from the stock mms app.
It does have pop up notification, custom status bar icons for individual contacts, custom individual message tones.... very nice. And its themeable which I do like...
I can't speak of handscent... but I will say this, I was an iPhone user for 4+ years before my current GS3, and on the iPhone BiteSMS is kind, which IS ChompSMS on android -- and I tried it but overall liked GoSMS better... I can't speak of the service running, etc... I will say MOST of the themes cost money, so that sucks - and I use the free ones.
I'm on T-mobile USA, and the NETWORK limits MMS to 300k - plain and simple, so regardless of anything else, your image is going to be resized by the network to 300k regardless what app you use.... (unless something has changed recently on T-mobile network). Another advantage of GoSMS is the customizable UAPROF (user agent) --- This is the string the phone sends to the network server telling HOW to deliver the MMS to your device. The wrong UAPROF results in crappy images. The RIGHT UAPROF results in very nice images. THIS IS A BIG FACTOR IN QUALITY OF MMS - ESPECIALLY IF YOUR USING UNLOCKED PHONES OR NON-BRANDED PHONES ON CERTAIN NETWORKS.... That *ALONE* makes GoSMS worth it (depending on your phone & network combination)
ChompSMS was fine, I just liked GoSMS better for whatever the reason? they're pretty much the same (minus the customizable settings in GoSMS). Now that I'm using a T-mobile branded phone on the T-mobile network, none of the custom settings matter anymore, and if I use the stock mms/messaging app on my current custom rom (darthstalker) I am able to send MMS over wifi just like sending over data. Also receive over wifi....
* RANT *
Why I hate the default messaging/mms app.................. When I get a picture, it plays as a slideshow in a tiny preview unless I save it and view in gallery. UNACCEPTABLE. GoSMS doesn't do that.... I get a picture and I see it using the default viewer - in full screen. NOT AS A SLIDE SHOW. If the default app would do this, I'd probably be using it with some kind of smspopup tweak.
