Hello all.
My problem right now is concerning the T mobile Note 2 home button.
When my phone is off, and I press the home button to open the phone (I have no lock screen, it opens up directly), the phone opens up the recent menu. Before, my phone would just light up and stay on the home screen and not pop up the recent apps side bar thingy. If I use the power button to open the phone, it's fine.
How do I fix this?
Right now I'm running: Jedi Master 14.
I know before my phone was working just fine on Jedi 11 or 12.
Is it a rom bug ? or hardware problem?
Thanks!
I don't know if this is a bug or hardware, but I have the same issue. When I'm at home I have the lock screen disabled, and when I press the home button it takes me to recent apps, and I'm on stock ROM, stock kernel, just rooted.
It's a bug of sorts - I had to add in a little smali stuff to make that stop.

Check out this thread which talks about it, but more importantly I link to another post I made that outlined exactly what I did.
Feel free to PM me if things are unclear at all

Just wondering for those of you who have the device already, have you guys found some neat features/tricks using 4.0 that haven't been documented or heavily advertised?
I would love to make a list of these features for other users to explore...
Lets get this started
List:
Reserved........
I know it's documented, but it was still a surprise to me - you can now finally delete apps straight from the app drawer, by dragging them just as if you were going to place them on the desktop, but then putting them in the recycle bin on the top.
No affiliation with apple. Or siri.

Nobody's talking about the search app. It's way better than the one in Gingerbread. Much easier to find stuff in your phone : music, app, sms, docs, etc. The old one was returning web search suggestion in 90% of the result... useless.
Search in browser let's you edit suggestion if you want to add something to it. But we lost popular web site suggestion
Just read it on Pocketnow but you can make folders in the favourites bar. Apologies if obvious.
When in the stock browser and you change orientation, tap the screen to make it rotate.

which runs TouchWiz, so it's not stock Android
Rotate the phone to the right whilst in any stock app (so the speaker grill and front camera are on the right). Notice that the back, home and task switch buttons have moved to the top of the screen so that they stay on the right.
When using an ics app hold down on an icon in the action bar to get a description of what it does

Not heavily advertised, but it should be:
The quick control in the browser. Almost the same as on honeycomb. Activate it in the labs settings of the browser. Love it!

NICE find! Thanks!
This is known about, however you said undocumented and I haven't a single document for the Nexus/ICS apart from on one which came with the phone, telling me how to fix the battery.
Hold the volume down and power key, and you take a screen capture. Which is very handy on occasions

If you tap the volume button which makes the volume bar appear, you can then press the icon to the left of the volume bar and it toggles between ring and vibrate.

In settings/about phone. Tap repeatedly on the android version number (4.0...) then a little android appears. Keep ur finger on it and it grows into a screen animation.
If u didn't know about this,I guess u r now thinking this is a joke. Or is it?
Need someone to test; try swiping the web pages up/down using 2 fingers
, is it a feature or a glitch?

My GS3 is awesome, working since day one.
However a problem came up with my home button. Sometimes when I have the phone running the home button would go to the task switcher and the menu button would go to Google Now.
When I reboot it, the home button works normally and goes to the home screen.
Rom issue?
Thanks

A few people complained about it in tasks previous build. If that's what you're running look no further. The latest 2/26 build fixed it. In other words, it might be rom related.

Nothing in my latest release would have anything to do with the home button. It was only a cleanup release. Its has something to do with Nova Launcher.

Apex Launcher Pro and CarbonRom. I also tried LiquidSmooth and other roms but also have this problem, so now I'm thinking its Apex Launcher, not sure though
Might be Apex Pro, I had the issue a few days ago with the home button going to the task switcher.(I'm on ParanoidKangdroid with Apex pro) I disabled Custom Actions for keys located in settings>Interface>Hardware keys then restarted and haven't had the issue since. So if you have custom actions for hardware keys that maybe it.
Edit: I actually remember some people a while back mentioning this issue on cm10.1 roms, might be a 4.2 issue.
It's a timing issue with long presses. It happens on trebuchet (cm's launcher) and apparently the other third party ones. If you'll notice the task switcher is a long press on home and a long press on menu is set to be search assistant. For whatever reason the duration needed to execute a long press gets shortened to what seems like milliseconds. If you very very quickly press whatever button you're trying to use it doesn't go with the long press, but hold it any longer than a couple hundred milliseconds and it long presses.
Edit: considering it's an issue on several launchers, it's gotta be the aosp source or something to do with our hardware making this happen.

Hi,
I am new to Androids and I have tried to search my problem before posting but cannot find the right thread.
I have just installed the 4.2.2 Paranoid Android to my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 I317, all I cannot quite figure out is how to delete the extra/empty home screens to the left and right.
I have tried pinching, double tapping, and holding the screen but none of those give me an option to remove the excess pages. I only like to use 1 page.
I have googled this issue and some just say to install another launcher, but i just want to keep it pretty the way it is and also to prevent unnecessary battery usage.
Anyone know how to do that?
Thanks a million!
From home screen press menu button and then edit page.you will see all the screens just drag the ones you dont want to trash.

Thanks but I know how to do that with the stock ROM and such. Its after the 4.2.2 Paranoid Android, I can seem to even make them all pop up after I press the home button.

Hello
I've recently installed Paranoid Android 3.15 on my Galaxy SIII i9300. I'm also looking for a way to delete homescreen pages. I've tried all tips above, but I can't seem to find it.
I'm using the default launcher.

This worked for me
After installing Kit Kat, when pressing the home button while on the home screen if not on the default home screen it no longer goes to the default home screen. It just doesn't do anything. Does this happen to anyone else?

Where did you download your copy?
I got mine from the mega mirror, I'm wondering if that could be the issue as no one else seems to be reporting experiencing the same issue as us
Same on my device, but it is no problem for me actually. I have downloaded mine from the Google Drive mirror

I downloaded from mega earlier today. I installed Kitkat and am having the same Issue with the home button. I have to use the little home icon to get to the default home screen. I did a full wipe before installing with Odin. If some people are not having this issue, I wonder what's causing it for the rest of us. Otherwise, I'm liking it.

I have the home button issue too, but the little home softkey works fine....I just have to remember it's there.
It's a TouchWiz issue BTW. I'm using nova launcher and there is no issue with the home button at all. Works just as expected.
Same issue here. Mine was from the Google drive mirror. Not too troublesome for me though. I'll be refreshing when a north American version pops up anyway.

Ah, that's cool. I've just been using TouchWiz since I did all my playing around with it yesterday, and haven't actually used Nova yet (which is my go-to launcher on everything). I'm trying to be good and check out the Samsung stuff for a change. The little home soft-key doesn't really bother me though....it's not like I have to reach much farther. LOL

Hello all,
I am rooted with SuperSU 2.67, running EX kernel and stock ROM. Is there any known mod or a way to edit my build.prop so that softkey input (say, long press on the overview key) triggers a screenshot? I have searched but so far found nothing. This would be a very useful feature and I am sure others would use it too, as taking screenshots on the N5X is a bit awkward.
What is awkward about taking screenshots like every other phone out there? Have you tried taking a screen shot with an LG G2 or 3 or 4? That is awkward.
That said, my guess is there is an xposed module that allows you to reassign the software keys to do this. You or someone else could modify the stock systemui.apk to allow a long press of one of the buttons to take a screenshot.

Whoops. Tagged the wrong person before. @Tulsadiver you like to do things like this. Have you ever coded a long press action to a navigation bar button before?

I haven't but there is a first for everything, lol. There is a google app that starts on a long press of the home key. That could maybe be changed to a screenshot capture...
@OGNatan. It's not the button control you want, but Gravity Box (xposed module) has a quick tile that will do screenshot as well as a screenshot command using the power button.

Indeed. The app is called Home Button Launcher. In my opinion its not a great solution. The keycode for screenshot is 120 btw.

Mine does it right now. I have google now launcher installed but i use Nova (i don't have any buttons configured in it.). I am running xTrafactory. Does yours not open google? I had never tried it until today.
FWIW, there are dozens of screen shot apps on the Playstore that use various strategies to capture.
For Example, Screenshot Capture by AppDoodle runs as a service and overlays a small button on the screen and captures at the touch of that button. The app can also be set up to shake the phone for screenshots.

Yes, Google opens when I long press the home button. But Home button launcher allows you to open any app(s) by long pressing the home button. For example you can have long press home to open straight to Google Voice search rather than the Google App.

Wow. Just got home from work and all these replies
I have tried several Play Store apps, but none of them give the functionality I want and/or run some kind of service that could be a battery drain.
@PiousInquisitor there probably is an xposed module for this floating around somewhere, but I am not currently running xposed. I guess for now the best course of action is to see about modifying systemui.apk :dread:
ever since the Google app added the Share button to Now on Tap, I've been taking screenshots that way.
Works perfectly and much quicker.

I wish I shared your fondness for Now on Tap. I have installed GravityBox, which contains a setting that does exactly what I was want. It is definitely the way to go :good:
