Depends on what kind of reminders you want. I don;t use too many but when I do I just google now and tell it to remind me of something at a certain time and it pops up with an alarm.

One step further with Google Now is you can set not only time reminders. "remind me to feed the dog at 5pm"
But location based reminders. "next time I'm at the grocery store, remind me to get hamburger" it'll give you a choice of local stores that you can select or you can specify a store and it'll ask you to select the closest location.
I use it all the time.

Unfortunately I don't believe there is anyway to pick and choose.
You can set it to sync with existing contacts but that's about it.

Yeah so really the only way is to have it sync with existing, at least that limits what syncs
I know this might sound trivial but this is the only ROM I've seen with customized messaging app that includes pop up, my question is how come no one includes a way in the ROM or app to set individual contact notifications without downloading another app

First of all, I have no idea what rom your talking about. I'm assuming ANYTHING based on CM10 or AOKP code.
Second, stock android has never had custom notifications for individual contacts. And to do this someone would actually have to code it! Maybe they'll get around to it, maybe they won't. Maybe it never crossed their minds because they don't use such a thing, or maybe because there's apps for that! but for native support, it has to be something a dev actually wants to have.
Not trying to be a douche either, just informing :highfive:
Sorry codename android 3.6.0 but yeah I find it really handy to know who is texting you without picking up the phone

I am also running CNA 3.6.0 but I do not know where the option to set custom notification tone for individual contact. Can you help me please?
Honestly no where, to achieve this you need to go to messaging settings turn off notifications, go to play store download sms popup and enable it and then find contact notifications.

MIUI also includes sms popups in the stock app
Yes but those pop UPS don't support individual notifications as far as I know

Anyways op, if I wanted to hide contacts. I'd probably save the contacts to the sim card or to a second gmail account and in the contacts app I would hit menu>Contacts to display and just select to display my main gmail account contacts and not the ones in the sim or secondary Gmail
Sent from Flip's S3
What exactly is your purpose in hiding the contacts? Is it because you are sneaking around on a loved one? Or is it for guilty pleasures like dominos pizza hotline? Maybe even you setup your voicemail as a contact so you can easilly dial it.
An all around solution would be to use a "vault" application. Vault hide is pretty good.
I think it is because a lot of contacts from his Gmail account or fb is showing up so he's trying to hide them?. Or he's a slut. Probably the latter

If you just want to hide some contacts in order not to have them in your list, I'd suggest the configuration of the preinstalled contacts App. But if there are contacts, you want to keep "secret" give "Hide it" a try. It pretends to be an Audiomanager, but you can access a hidden vault by typing in a code. In this vault you can store pics, Videos, texts, contact, etc

ALL - wow, so judgmental...
OP - I hide contacts frequently because I sync my office/exchange contacts but don't care to see them on my personal phone on the weekends...
solution: stock contacts app allows for viewing certain groups - if you really need contacts 'invisible' under passcode on your phone, there are third party apps to do that, or set them on your sim with a sim lock password or on you samsung account online or elsewhere...
FB.

Wouldn't it auto update anyway? Why you hate hangouts? Its pretty much everything talk was plus tons more...

I was able to find the Talk Apk. Auto-update is easily preventable by setting it not to do so.
Talk is far, far more visually appealing and navigable. When chatting with someone, I find it impossible to side swipe to the user list screen for some reason. Hangouts is just another example of trying to "fix" something that wasn't broken. What is the "tons" more you refer to? It still hasn't merged SMS, which would actually have been useful.
I bet you like the new Maps too and the loss of layer functionality?

Perhaps to you. I do like the new maps it seems to lock quicker. No need for the attitude... I find the navigation much easier with the swiping and I love the look of the application. Its far easier to add people from your contacts as well as the different levels of navigation within the application. Love how easy it is overall versus talk. The new maps application lost a feature I don't use... Not saying its alright for all but your attitude sucks...

Sent from my HTC6500LVW using xda app-developers app
I just checked and I still think they need to improve on that. I'd like it if they showed the online status in the opened hangouts window instead of just the new hangouts window.
If they did that then it's worth switching to, but as it stands, talk is still superior in online chat in my opinion.

Yep, that's what I did on my N7 (2013). However, I backed it up first just in case and THEN delete it.
One thing I hate about Hangout is that BY DEFAULT, ALL conversation are recorded. I can disable this, but only per conversation instead of the default option. So I have to disable this for EVERY single chat windows, both old and new ones.
Hangouts irritated the hell out of me as well. After using Talk for a couple of years, the update to Hangouts drove me straight to WhatsApp.

Does talk work on 4.4?
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Hangout is a bit quirky, as I've yet to figure out how to send an SMS directly through the app, but it's much more feature packed than Talk I think.
Can someone point me in the right direction? I basically have to go into my Contacts and just choose to send a message. There's got to be a way to do it through Hangout itself though, right?
