I would like to find my MSL code. I have looked on the forums and I've done what they tell me, but nothing is working. And I would like some step-by-step guidance so I can get this code. Thanks in advance! (Running stock ROM, if that is of any importance.)
Call sprint and ask for it, easiest way.

That method only works if you are on LJ7, if you aren't, then you need to downgrade your rom.

I saw that earlier, and I ran that script, followed the instructions exactly, redid it a few times incase I did it wrong, and it STILL didn't work. It would say it found my MSL but whenever I told it to read it, it said "Your MSL is ."
So now I don't know what to do.
Ah okay. Is that my ONLY option? Other than calling Sprint?

On calling Sprint: If they insist on a reason for giving it to you, you "could" them you are having issues connecting your phone to your PC and that you've reloaded drivers, used a different cable, different PC and tell them somebody online told you to try the dialer code *#7284# on your keypad to access the URT and USB settings to fix it (i.e. make sure that URT is set to Modem and USB is set to PDA and not modem which may fix all connectivity issues with your pc). To use the dialer code *#7284# you will need your MSL number and that's why you are calling them. I don't know why they give some folks such a problem with this info. I was having a tech issue with an Epic 4G that required them to give me the MSL code to try a "soft reset." After doing that I asked for my MSL on my SG3 in case I ever ran into a problem where I needed to do something like that with it and they gave it to me right away.

Yes. I know this. It is also in the thread. Which is just a Nand, and flash away. Which IMO is easier than calling Sprint, and possibly having to deal with someone who is possibly going to give you a hard time for no reason. Not that it happens all the time, but it does.

@ rando991I find it much easier just to keep Sprint ( or any Carrier )out of the equation if possible. Like I started above. It's a 50 /50 proposition. Sometimes you get someone that will give you the MSL without asking. Sometimes you get a person who will ask you a bunch of unnecessary questions. You never know.

What do I do now??
Just call sprint, tell them you were in a repair store having your phone looked at and one of the techs told you its a good idea to keep your msl handy and that you should call sprint to get it. That what I did and I got it no problem.

Have you tried using the app "get my msl"?
I've pulled the msl off three s3s really easily with these steps.
1. downgraded to LJ7 full stock.
2. Open the app then hit the home button.
3. Go to data settings, (phone dialer dial ##data#)
4. Hit edit and type 000000, it'll give you an error message, hold the home button and go back to the msl app on your open apps selection (dont close the dialer just press and hold to open recent apps).
5. Hit get my msl (may need to hit the menu button) and then it should give you your msl.

Why? Is it a stolen phone? Why do you need to get it yourself, obviously you can't, so why keep f*uckin around with it.

I tried with connectbot to get my MSL number and with the new EC05 update sprint has removed it. I called sprint for the number and they would not give it to me. How else can this be achieved with only using the phone without a computer?

Your the man on this one. I have a rooted Epic on ECO5 and couldent get the MSL with alogcat or by searching connectbot getprop list. I popped in getprop ril.MSL and bingo! Thank you sir.

root your phone and use a terminal from the market
run terminal and type in su and then select enter key
allow su permissions when asked for it...
then type getprop
then press the left most key on the phone and select email to and email it to yourself as it is easier to read on a computer screen
search for MSL and you should find [ril.MSL]: [xxxxxx]
The x's above will be numbers which are your msl code....

Rooting isn't even necessary... see my post from the first page, which I will conveniently quote below. You can use ConnectBot or Terminal Emulator for this, both of which are free on the Market.

How do you change the username? This helps me update the MSID & MEID but thats it. Could this possibly clone my current device using phone number and MSID?
Anyone have it? Want to hard reset my phone with the code, not by going through the menu to Factory Data Reset.

You probably want to be on stock to be safe though. I recall a while back they had some problems with resetting from the ROM with the recompiled kernels, though they might have resolved those issues by now.

The ##786# has always seemed to work for me -- but if I am not using the full stock odexed Odin tar, it doesn't restore the /preload folder... Not a big deal, but it gives me a "feeling" that not everything finishes.
It does do the factory wipe, activation, PRL checks, etc. regardless.

remember if you use swype it capitalizes the I. so I would change keyboards before doing that

Also make sure that you remember it is case sensitive, so everything must be lowercase, and MSL must be in all caps
I am using adb shell it is installed on my desktop. when i run adb and type in that code it states that 'getprop' is not recognized as an internal, external command, operable program or batch file. Am I running adb wrong. thanks for your help

Hi guys I have been trying to unlock my Samsung Galaxy S I9000 for some time now with no luck. I have tried two (samsung unlock and the xda) methods and both has failed. There is a problem generating the codes. Maybe I did too much flashing in the begining I don`t know . Can anyone help me with this please? I have added a jpeg to see if that helps.

I unlocked my SGS by using an app called Galaxy_S unlock by Helroz from the play store.
If it doesn't work try downgrading to froyo as I unlocked mine when I was on 2.2.

It seems you have adb.exe tool already installed but you get error because you do not have enough rights on your phone so get the rights by these lines..
by terminal here I mean cmd.exe from Windows
so enter cmd Start/Run/cmd.exe
then to start adb server enter this
Code:
adb devices
then in cmd enter
"adb shell" press Enter (in fact this is "terminal" - a way to get access on your phone and enter commands)
then "su" press Enter
and so on..

chmod 777 /efs/nv_data.bin
exit

lastly enter

now you get nv_data.bin on your PC check for this file in the folder where adb.exe is located usually ~\android-sdk\platform-tools\adb.exe
You have the advantage of a well-known phone so there are solutions for everything

So I have properly installed the SDK and I also installed a stock rom (I9000XXJP2) and rooted it and Now I get this result displayed in the attached pic. I have tried to follow the instructions given by ruscan.calin (and thanks for the "look here for a tutorial to unlock your phone" link) but I again I am back at a dead end.

It seems you are the right way now you have an unlocked nv_data.bin
replace on phone and give rights follow that tutor

I installed the SDK and put in the path for the ADB folder. Then I installed a stock rom (I9000XXJP2) and rooted it although I think I did not have to root it. I then used the "Generate_Code" script from XDA. But I still don`t get the NCK and Freeze codes. Should I try another rom?

root is very important if not you can not play with nv_data.bin file...
what link ? and how did you do what steps I can't guess show me some logs screenshots anyway more info !

My sincere apologies to you my friend. I was able to unlocked my SGS after I followed your advice of downgrading to froyo and then I continued with the tutorial I got through Member ruscan.calin. So excess amount of thanks to you both. I will make sure to properly BACKUP my SGS3 before I touch it. I have learnt my lesson. Thanks again.

1. Download the flashable zip and flash from recovery
2. Let the phone boot and go into terminal emulator (I use adb from command promp in windows)
3.Type "su". **If using adb "adb shell" then "su"
4. Type "getprop ril.MSL"
****I have had instances where the flashable mode didnt work. In that case, try the manual way listed in Viperboys OP****
Tada!!!! Right it down.
Now you can do all those hidden menu things ##DATA##, etc.

I have got the OP method to work on mine 3 times now. You may have to try it a couple times. I noticed that after I flashed the zip, I went to /system/bin and msl wasnt there. I used root explorer, moved msl to /system/bin and gave it all permissions, then did what I said in the OP via adb and it worked.

Get my MSL doesn't work for me either. Worked on my Nexus S 4g and Evo, not on the GS3. I'm rooted. Maybe that's the difference? I can't imagine why that would make a difference. Anyone else get their MSL using the app?
The app didnt work for me, but like I said, try the manual mode if all else fails.
You guys are right I'm rooted and running a custom rom and I tried the app again and it didn't work good thing I wrote it down before I rooted
Here is the easiest way with any sprint phone. Activate it online and it's what they called the "programming code." I don't know if it will work if you are already activated. But if you have a backup phone. Activate that then activate your SG3 again.

I was able to get the MSL by calling in and requesting to perform a full system reset (not just data). ##RTN# requires it in order to proceed.

What worked for me to to go to the screen where it requested it(thru ##3282# menu) once there type getprop ril.MSL in adb or terminal, if it shows nothing type anything in the msl box, and after it says invalid code retype getprop ril.MSL and it'll show. Hope this helps

Rooted my SGS3. Installed CM 10.1. Missed Touchwiz. Went into CWM to restore prior ROM. Softbricked phone. Downloaded MB1 full (odex) and Baseband update. Flashed Baseband and MB1. Rebooted, now I have no data. Can call and text. Radio & BB are L710VPBMB1. Hardware is L710.14. PRL 25012. PRI 0x01. PCB SAMSUNG M2_SPT.000e.
Please help!

Can't. It gives me the error (code 6) Connection Error.

Did. Rewiped. Reinstalled. Rebooted. Same situation. Am I using the right radio?
Is your sgs3 a sprint phone? Or is it for another carrier? Cuz you have a sprint modem on it so if it's a sprint s3 yes its the right modem, if its for another carrier you're in the wrong forum.
Edit: nvm I see your hw is l710 in the OP so right phone. Try doing a master reset and reprovision. First get your MSL by downloading terminal emulator ovwr wifi then going to dialer dial ##3282# pick an option and select edit type 000000 let it fail open terminal emulator and type getprop ril.MSL which is case sensitive. The 6 digit code in between the first line where you entered the getprop snd ths new command line is your MSL. Then go to settings> about phone > status and find MIN if its a different 10 digits than your phone # write it down. Now go back to dialer and hit ##786# > reset > enter MSL. Let it reboot. Once its all booted up go to dialer again ##72786# > edit > enter MSL and then manually add your phone# and MIN, back out and it should auto reboot, if not reboot. Then update PRL and Profile, reboot again, see if your data is back now

You need to enter the bad msl in the ## menu first doesnt matter which menu can be ##3282# ##786# etc the false value will unhide the msl
Another option is to go on sprint.com and act like you want to activate the device follow the on screen steps til you get tk the page with the provisioning infl and your MSL write it down then leave the page you'll need to enter your esn/imei
