Hello,
weird question, i can see a folder in Astro that has wallpapers, but I can't see the wallpapers when looking at the same folder in Gallery.
In fact, i can ONLY see 1 file in that specific folder when in Gallery.
If I go to Astro, I can see all hundred files...
I tried to set wallpaper (i have launcher pro plus) and it gives me the option of Astro or the Gallery. When I try Astro, and I see the wallpaper, it doesn't change the wallpaper. it's the same one i already have. When I choose gallery, i can only see that 1 file....
could this be because I disconnected it before the computer was finished ejecting it? How do I fix this?
I wold go to settings>manage applications>all> click on the gallery.apk and clear cache.

Thanks for the suggestion, I cleared a good 5mb of cache, but I still have the problem. I see like a fraction of the items in folders I know should be full...really frustrating.
Is there a way to copy everything on my card to my computer? I mean, Everything?
Last time I switched cards, I noticed that my copy was less mb than my original, and all the apps that I had moved onto my storage card, I had to download.....
Have you tried clicking on the photo while in Astro, then getting the prompt to view in gallery?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Hey, I just tried it, but when the prompt comes up, the options are " astro" and" view picture" , doesn't say view in gallery....
Do permissions not totally get copied over when copying files from sd card to computer and back? Thinking the solution might be to wipe my card and try again...
Ok, this is weird, I have no idea what is happening. So now, even while looking around on my computer, files are missing in folders where I know there should be files.
Could this be a virus? Something I downloaded?
AND, now, like, hundreds of pictures are missing that i took...like 1gb worth, maybe over a thousand...
could this have happened when i unplugged my phone prematurely?
is there a way i can recover them???
Connect device to pc, as a drive, use pc search function to search sd for *.jpg
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
it's not good, i'm missing it, i think. i went from like, 14gb filled on my sd card to 2 filled....
on my mac i'm using the search function for .jpg, and so many things are missing. wallpaper's i've downloaded, etc.
i dont' mind trying to find the wallpapers again, but i dont' know if ther'es a way to recover those pictures that i've taken. mostly because they're of my kids, etc. i know they're just pictures, but if it's possible, like the info is hidden on the card somehow...
i used this command to show hidden files...
"defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE"
so i can see everything i think.
1. if i format my sd card, how can i ensure that my apps that have transferred to sd stay?
2. if it's a virus, should i not recopy everything back over to my sd card when finished? could it even be a virus, or more likely cuz i pulled it out before done...
Abnormal termination before completion is likely what made it wonky. If you reformat sd, all contents will be gone, but apps can be d/l again. Search for *.jpg yields nothing? Idk how search works on mac - you certain you are searching sd and not internal memory?
Download and run Lookout if concerned about virus, however unlikely.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
the weird part is that i wasn't transferring some of the files that were erased...
and also, it was acting weird, like i ejected it, but wasn't responding, or something, so i pulled it, and then got the "your device wasn't removed properly,..."
thanks for the help;.
i do have lookout, so i guess if lookout didn't see it, then i should be okay...
yes, i'm certain i'm searching teh sd card....i can't believe so MUCH has gone, but oh well, i can't take it w/ me when i'm dead, it's just a thing.
(was reminded about Japan and the Tsunami at church today, made me realize my big huge sd card problem (while it has its importance) wasn't so important after all...)
if it's gone, it's gone, right? do you think i should reformat? i feel like stuff goes in a black hole on the card, now.
thanks again for your help!
oh, btw, what about my apps that are on sd? when i reformat my card, i think the apps will be gone...
well, rather than try and figure out how to copy my sd card w/ hidden partitions, i just moved my apps onto my phone manually, and now i'm reformatting my card and moving what was left back onto my sd card.
hope it's not wonky now... will let you guys know if everything shows up.
SO FRUSTRATING.
okay, went through and formatted everything, etc., (even formatted phone storage by accident, doh) but i put stuff back onto the card, and stuff is still not showing up!
why would it be available to be seen from the computer, but it doesn't show up in gallerY?
Could your SD be near the end of its life? Sorry about your loss on the pics.
DINC // CM7 RC2 // SLAYHER#9
thanks, i appreciate it.
i don't know what happened, but i think i was reading my gallery wrong, as well. what's happening is that it's not quite updating to what's on the card, and i'll put something on my card, but it's not reflected right away.
maybe i'll do a hard reset, anyways... might help.
Sounds like you have a defective card. The same thing happened to me a while back. You can try to reinstall everything but it will most likely die again shortly after.
I am running into an issue with my SDCard.
The card is a 4GB class 4 Sandisk that for a little while had 157mb free. I deleted 1.09gb off of the card and it still says it only has 157mb free for whatever reason (on my computer and on the incredible). I have tried restarting the phone and taking the sdcard out and using a microsd card converter.
I understand that the only thing I can do might be to format, however this isn't the first time I have run into this problem and I want to stop running into this problem.
Anything I can try? I would prefer not to format, but I will if I have too.
Copy the contents of your SD to a computer, and format the SD card to FAT32. See what the does.

So I did that and well now I have 3gb available. My assumption is that everything I deleted kept bogging it down or whatever.
So then the question is, how do I stop it from doing this in the future?

I would wait and see if it happens again. I've never had that issue, and it's the first I've heard of it. I would recommend another SD card at that point.

Hi guys
My Note 2 seems to be using too much CPU process. I have Watchdog task manager installed and almost every few minutes, i see Android.Process.Media getting a warning. At the same time, i can feel my phone is hot.
I've did some research on the web and it seems to suggest that there's a corrupted sdcard or corrupted media file (mp3, jpg, mv) in my sdcard. Thus the media storage keep trying to check the files.
My situation is, in my SD card i only have 1 folder that has a lot of pictures (download through mangawatcher). No mp3, no movies. The root folder has a .nomedia file, but it seems that the media storage still craws through the entire folder.
My phone is not rooted (need it to stay unrooted due to some reason). Is there any way to fix this?
1 other possible way i found was completely disable Android.Process.Media, but if i do this, my ringtones and notification tones are all gone (goes into unknown state).
You could try backing up your SD Card to computer, formatting it (FAT32 if external) then restoring folder by folder to isolate which one might be causing the problem?

Yeah, that's what i'm trying now. Will update here on the result.
Latest update: It would seem that my problem could be related to a bad microSD card. a friend of mine who suffered from the same problem said her problem was solved once she changed SD cards..
SanDisk -> Kingston.
Another update: i'm getting this error now..sdcard unexpectedly removed
I read some other forums, it seems to suggest the error could be because of corrupted SD card (SanDisk)
http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-galaxy-note-2/231647-sd-card-unexpectedly-removed-2.html
Might be worth doing a full read write test on the card on a computer just to be sure.

Update: In the end i rooted my phone and tried this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsImNvbS5hZGR6Lm1lZGlhc2Nhbm5lcnJvb3QiXQ..
Works wonders... too bad had to use root. I'm using a 8gb MicroSD now, will try with my SanDisk 32gb again and see what happens.
Yeah that's one way around it, it's a bit annoying as a band aid fix though as each time you add any media like photos it will require triggering a scan. I also had issues with installing Apps remotely from the browser using that method.

Many thx Good to know that.
I just put back my original SanDisk 32GB. Though i don't have the media scanner problem, but i do see from time to time it says "Preparing SDcard" i suspect my SD card is dying just like the rest..
Had the same issue with my S3.
Turned out that the SD card was dying, which caused to be unmounted by itself and then mounted again (sometimes showing notification “sd card removed unexpectedly”), hence triggering the media scanning process.
I creates an application to monitor how many times the SD card was removed, and turned out to be unmounted every ~3 mins!!!
I then bought a new Transcend 32GB Class 10 card, and until now, this never happens, no reports from the application whatsoever, and no media process eating my battery.
Please PM me if anyone needs this app.
Problem:
I'll connect my phone to my computer and open the SD card (32gb) to view it and several of the folders names have been changed and they all start with a "u" now (see below for example)?? On top of that, everything in those folders is now missing... There is also a new folder called "Lost Dir" with a bunch of files in it with just numbers for names, no extension though. I'll delete the folders and they reappear on the next restart..... So I usually end up reformatting the SD card and it's good for a few days and then does it again.
Example:
Downloads is now uownloads (with a funky symbol next to it)
Data is now uata
TWRP is now uWRP
ect...
This has been happening for a little over a month... with different ROM's, so it's not a ROM issue. Could it be Fast Charge?? Could it be the kernel I'm using as I always use the same kernel?
Anyone else have this problem that could shed some light on it for me? I'd like to figure out what is causing this so I can fix it, or not repeat it.
Thanks, Jason
Sounds like the card is failing, or the controller is.
Try reformatting it in your computer using a USB adapter, not a built in reader. Do a full, not fast, format.
Could also try running Scandisk.
What brand card?
Obviously, trying a different card can sort this out quickly.
Bad card. Is it a 32GB card by chance?
Formatting will only be a temporary solution. Eventuality the errors will pop up again

Yeah, 32gb SanDisk.
All signs are pointing to this, I'll probably pick up a new one this week.
Thanks for the replies!
You may be able to have the card replaced for free under warranty.
To make a long story short, I took some irreplaceable pictures today that disappeared.
I have my camera saving to my 64gb memory card. I took a few pictures and a couple of panoramas and they ended up showing up glitchy and useless.
They didn't appear in the gallery with the exception of a few images.
It looked odd.
I rebooted the phone and tried to go into the gallery and they just weren't there. The previews showed up momentarily and then they vanished.
Now when I try to take a photo to go to my external memory, it works fine. It didn't pre-reboot.
Is there a method of:
A: Recovering my lost 10-15 images.
B: Ensuring that this doesn't happen in the future.
For the record, my card seems to be working fine. Music on it loads up quickly as well as any other images that I loaded onto it. Files open and there is zero lag. I don't suspect that the card is corrupted or anything.
Thanks guys.

You could try something like Recuva: https://www.piriform.com/recuva
I successfully used that to restore files deleted from microSD cards a few years back.

Thanks!
I'm unfortunately on a Mac. Guess I'll boot into boot camp and install it and give it a go.
I hope the pictures actually existed as files though and not some cached object.
Update:
Overnight, the saving issue arose again. I'm forced to use internal storage when using my camera.
I've seen this problem before. So SD cards don't work well with Samsung devices. I bought a Samsung SD card and never seem this problem again. I recommend you do the same.

I wish I wasn't broke :/
I'm using a SanDisk 64gb. Guess I've gotta dig up some cash and get a Samsung.
I don't see how this is an issue though.
What is your card formatted in? My current is in exfat. I'm thinking the format may be an issue.
It may be a kitkat issue. Google "kitkat SD card write". Root users are using a fix that sets permissions so the sd card can be written to by all apps as expected.

Right before I came across your post, I found some info on the kitkat issue with sd cards. I'm guessing that's what's causing this problem. Odd because it's the default Samsung camera that's messing up.
Oh, how I miss root. I just hope we get root soon. I'm pretty close to selling this phone and hopping on Tmobile.
I had this problem happen with very VERY irreplaceable pictures, on my backpacking trip to china, one of the most irreplaceable pictures of my entire life was taken, appeared glitchy in gallery, phone reset and it was gone.
after taking out the SD card, and doing many deep scans to try and recover the deleted pictures, it seems the pictures arent there, which leads me to believe it somehow tried to save it in internal memory (which cant be mounted as a drive, so cannot be recovered).
if you can somehow flash an older version of android (like 2.xx) you can mount your phone as a drive, and then attempt to recover deleted data from your internal SD..
yeah all i can say is ,,|,, you samsung.
I too have the same problems as the OP. And I am on SAMSUNG micro SD card! Guess it is one of those first batch gremlins?
However, I think the problem has gone away after I switch on the image "preview" option. Give it a try.
I had the same issue with a 64gGB SanDisk micro SD card. The camera would seem as if it was taking pictures but nothing was actually saved; they just shows as corrupted files in the gallery. I lost countless irreplaceable images from our honeymoon because of this. Once I switched to a 32GB Samsung micro SD card I never had the issue again, also saving the pictures directly to the internal memory solved the problem. I use the SD card for music as well so it has to be something with the phone writing to the SD card. From what I've read it's a issue with the compatability with samsung and non samsung sd cards for some reason.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
Never had this issue with any of my Samsung phones (S2, S4, and now the Note 4). I'm using a SanDisk Class 10 32GB. I'd recommend pulling the files off the SD and doing a format. Download the App SD Maid as well for routine maintenance on your SD. Good luck.
My 64GB SanDisk SD card was giving unexpected unmounted errors, so I picked up a Samsung 64GB SD card. The unexpected unmount errors went away, but now I have this problem. Pictures are not saving to the SD card correctly. Sometimes it says media not found. Others the preview/thumbnail looks fine but the full view is just grey.
I am going to try saving to internal memory and manually moving to the SD card as I run out of room.
