Unroot help! - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I was thinking, I rarely use anything that requires root and I am thinking of just going back to stock. However, the only firmware I have I'd the original tar file that I had when I rooted it in November and used when I had to do a warranty replacement. How would I get a newer version/update?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

There's a sticky in android development on firmwares.. There's prerooted and official ones you can flash with Odin and MD5 is the latest
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Just start with the one you have and then do an update.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Thanks guys!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Suo, if I dl the md5 and flash it as normal, I'll lose root? Or should I do it through odin and use that md5 instead of the one I have?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Depends which md5 you download.. If you just download a stock ROM like stockarama, you flash through recovery, if you download a stock image then you will have to flash it with Odin.. The one you flash through recovery will probably have root, the one with Odin won't, as long as it's not a root66 image, but you can also just unroot the stock ROM, so up to you
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

They are all flashed in Odin.
If you want root, use the root66 firmware. Otherwise use the regular stock fw.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium

Don't wanna sound lime a noob jerk but could you tell me or show me the link to the one to flash with Odin? Just really don't wanna screw it up.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

The first that are posted first are prerooted, keep scrolling and you'll find the official images
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

I down loaded "official firmware" the md5 one... that's the right one?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Sounds right. If it's the root66 version it'll have it in the filename.

Ok, thanks! There were some up to that were root 66 then the next ones down were official.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Right, I did that because the majority of people are looking for the prerooted versions.

internal storage
Hi can someone tell me a few things:
Does flashing take up your internal storage and if so if phone is put back to how it was brought from store will the internal storage go back to that also? Personally I don't think it makes a difference as I'm trying to explain to my son that I think apps take up most of your internal storage.

Anything that goes on the /data partition can affect your internal storage. So if you install an app, it will take up some of your storage space on internal.
Flashing is different. Roms for example flash to the /system partition. Unless the dev includes apps they specifically put on /data this will have little effect on you're available storage space. The only way it does affect it is system apps store their data and dalvik cache on the /data partition.
Flashing mods and other items usually will be the same as flashing roms in this sense. Some will include data that takes up your user space, but most will have little, if any effect on it. There is usually little reason to flash anything to the data partition as you can generally just install normally.

cant move my apps to sd

When i try to use system to move apps to sd ot says it cant. So i tried in titanium to move , i do a batch move , its completes but there all still all on int memory. Any have a clue
Think you have to be on stock kernel for that feature to work.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
There's a thread in the dev section that has a stock rom that boots from emmc used to update prl and what not. I haven't tried using it but it might be worth a shot to boot it and move your apps then boot your original rom. But like the post above I'm pretty sure u gotta be on stock kernel.

That's true, but you can also temp flash stock then flash and use agats kernel and it will work until you go to clockwork. Then that cycle begins again. He explains it in his thread.

[Q] Am I good to go for update?

I have the T999UVLH3 Modem and I'm running on Deodexed_T999UVALJ4 ROM. Am I good to go for the JB update?
Not the ota. But you can still Odin flash the full FW.

Ok thanks. But I'm a little confused on which instructions from his thread I should use.
If you want to use the stock or root66fw, use the instructions for odin.
I know its a little cluttered. Im gona try to reorganize a littl in the next few days. Sorry bout that.

Yes, but nandroid first just in case.
Use the link in my sig for the firmware thread.
Download the UVDLJA firmware, root66 version if you want to be rooted, and flash via Odin.
Thats it!
Sometimes itll hang at boot forcing a factory reset, so nandroid first.

Can I flash TMOB JB to my Canadian Mobilicity SGS3 with Odin?

Anybody did this? Will it work?
No. Itll fail Odins device check to make sure you are flashing the right firmware for your phone.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I flashed it with mobile Odin pro, excluded recovery and modem. I'm with Videotron, I think its the same as the Mobilicity variant.
Worked great, no issues.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
He could first flash the T-Mobile stock ICS ROM and from then flash jb ROM or he wouldn't need to if ota recognized it as T999 instead of T999v on stock T-Mobile ROM..either way make a backup of your imei before doing anything and a back up .good luck

Right, but with Mobile odin you dont get the full update, (so why not just flash from recovery).
For the otas you can mod the build.prop, or the ota itself, but I believe its a bit more complicated when using odin. Was going to look at a little better tonight. Someone else asked me the exact same thing earlier.

Pretty much what doc is saying here. If you guys are unsure about something, it is likely because it is a bad idea. ROMs are specific to builds, carriers, etc... it is just not worth the risk.
Partitions, in theory should be the same as far as what is being updated - x is being flashed to x partition... just not a good idea. You flash a radio to the wrong partition... game over... hope you had the insurance.

Root should be fine. Its the custom recovery that'll prevent you from even being able to get the update.
You will lose root though unless you use voodoo rootkeeper or mobile odin pro.

Its pretty straight forward actually. There should be steps laid out in post 2 of the fw thread and I believe Theexel hasit in his thread stickied in this section.

Along the same lines...I just got an s3 yesterday and rooted stock 4.0.4. Used OTA root keeper, downloaded the ota for JB and when I attempt to upstate it fails....I have stock recovery. No idea why it keeps failing. I would Odin the prerooted JB but my wife doesn't want to lose her settings she already set up. Any ideas?

You probably have a custom recovery causing it to fail.
Regardless of how you update you will possibly lose some settings. Its recommended, but not required to do a clean update anyway. But flashing with odin should preserve your settings as well as the ota would. Once they boot up it shouldn't matter as the resulting build is the same.

Depends if you've done anything to your current build.
Cwm will flash it, but I just don't care for it. Caused probs for quite a few people.
But you have to be full stock. No mods, no deodexing, no bloat removal, no modems flashed, etc.
Then you should be able to flash it in cwm.
Its preferred you do it through stock recovery. You can use voodoo rootkeeper to preserve root.

That has everything you need to gain root. What you do from there is up to you. I've personally used it on both the ICS and JB stock images. Worked perfectly.
Search before you make a new thread next time though. Took me all of 15 seconds to find that when I first got on here.
