Bad camera? - Sprint LG Optimus G

So I've been on aosp ROMs for a while now and I know about the whole focus issue with them, but recently I realized my camera won't even focus on the first try. It use to focus just fine, but now it won't focus with the scripted or even on stock. Any ideas?

Turns out it was a faulty camera, got a replacement

Ive read that some of the phones that produce bad images period is because of their lenses... are lenses replacable and if so does it matter if its the same phone?

Dramatic Difference In Screen Quality (PIC Added)

I just received my replacement t989 from TMobile, and realized my original phone's screen quality was horrible! I powered them on side by side, and my new phone looks clear as day with bold colors, and my original phone looks distorted and VERY yellow! I will post pictures after work. Has anyone else noticed this?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Yes. Also got a replacement recently and I can attest the screens have gotten better on the newer-made phones.
Updated OP with a picture I took of them side by side. You can clearly tell which one is which.
Same here, my previous t989 screen was crappy and the moment I turned on my replacement phone I noticed a huge difference with the screen quality, felt like I am using a whole new phone.

I think the replacement just has a better screen. I don't see them degrading to that extent, especially in this short of time.
If you have insurance T-Mobile discounts the exchange to only $5 and you get free overnight shipping.

Legit reason to have them send you a new one. If the person you talk to doesn't like it, ask for their supervisor. If that fails, call back and start again, sometimes some call centers seem to be lame about stuff like exchanges and others are perfectly fine.

Camera Showoff Thread (Post your photos/videos here!)

I got this idea from the sprint Note II forum and I wanted to see what you guys are taking pictures of .. I am quite impressed with the definition of the camera on this device and wanted to see if the T-mo version was any better / worse than sprint. so I'll go first. This is my Ruger 10/22 takedown .22LR . It's stock except a KiDD bolt buffer and UTG picatinny rail. It is sporting a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 BDC 150 rimfire scope and a Ruger BX-25 25rd magazine.
Was shot with stock settings.

Are you sure you have a sprint S3? You're posting from the international version so I'm a little doubtful. If you're rooted it may also be a big with your rom, or maybe a common problem with your phone (if referring to int'l version)
I made a mistake.I have int version and it is not rooted l.maybe is a common problem who knows.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Low light photos tend to be grainy and don't look good, unless you have a very good camera. There is not really a cell phone out that takes low light pictures really well. You don't see the spots or grainy ness when you use the flash because there is more light. Take some pictures in sunlight and they will look great.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

This is a problem with all phone cameras. They just don't have good enough sensors and what not to take good low light pics. If you want a great camera for low light images get a real DSLR camera.

I love DSLRs and use them quite often, so I might be able to shed some light (pun intended) on this situation.
I won't go into too much detail about it, but the low light performance comes down to the CMOS image sensor size. This article and this article do a good job of explaining what the camera sensor does, but it boils down to the following: a smaller sensor will be able to absorb less light than a larger sensor. This is why phone cameras will never be as good as (high end) DSLRs. This is also why, for the most part, size does matter when it comes to cameras (not 100% foolproof of a rule, but it stands).
Now, when you're taking a picture in a low-light area, the sensor picks up what it can. This is where software takes over. There are algorithms that cameras (both in DSLR and phone cameras) that interpret the sensor readings and compile them into an image. When the sensor can't read enough light, it's output to the algorithm won't contain enough information to provide an accurate picture. This is where grainy pictures come from and sometimes, artifacts like the ones you've been pointing out.
I'm not sure why it's happening primarily with low-light Red pixels on your phone, but it won't be fixed by getting a new phone. It'll be fixed by getting a $2K DSLR. Even though our cameras are 8MP, they will inherently be worse than a high-end camera. These cameras are nice for snapping a pic of a friend or relative or your favorite dish at that new restaurant, but if you're trying to blow them up to a poster, good luck with that! Having realistic expectations of the phone camera will help you be more satisfied with it.
---------- Post added at 12:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:46 AM ----------
I should also state that my previous post mainly applies to low-light conditions. Given adequate lighting conditions, this phone camera is phenomenal. The problem with the small sensor is that it takes more light to get adequate lighting. Hope this makes sense.
