[Q] Task switcher while keyboard active - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

This is making me want to pull my hair out on my Note 8.0.
When I hold down the home button to access the task switcher while keyboard is active, it will immediately close the task switcher.
What seems to happen is when it closes the keyboard to bring up the task switcher, the keyboard cancels out the task switcher as well.
Forcing me to hold down the home button again with the keyboard deactivated.
Things I've tried -
- Changed launchers from default Touch Wiz.
- Installed different keyboards.
- Restarted device.
Googling this problem also came up with zero hits...I cannot believe I'm the only one with this issue.
My last resort is to do a factory reset but not even sure if that will fix it and it is last resort.

One more thing you could try is clearing settings of Samsung keyboard and Task manager (application manager/all/clear data), maybe some other apps as well

I tried what you described - switching tasks with the keyboard open.
I used Taskbar 7 from the play store (my multi-tasker/task manager of choice) and had no problems. The keyboard stayed open in the app that was using it too. Taskbar 7 doesn't use the home button.

Or you can hide the keyboard first with back button.. and then activate the task switcher

I've been doing that but it defeats the purpose of me trying to fix this issue because it just increases another step of hiding the keyboard first - no different from pressing down the Home key twice.
Anyway thanks for trying to help guys, I've decided to try a few task switchers from the Play Store and found one that works perfectly - and more. With better customisation as well.

To use the task switcher (e.g. long touch home) with a keyboard, you normally use alt+tab and tab through the apps. In Samsung's case the tabbing through apps doesn't work (bastards).
You can press alt+tab, continue to hold alt, and then tap the app you wish to switch to. That's as good as it gets in TouchWiz.

I also don't seem to have your problem with the software keyboard.

Single Press Home opens Google Now search?

I know on a prior rom I installed I somehow got it so that a single press on my home button from the home screen opened the red mic for voice search. Does anyone remember how to set this?
Many third party launchers such as nova launcher for example you could set the home button to do many different options. Not sure what you are running but if you install a launcher and go into settings you could set it to do that

Problems with Cyanogen Mod 7.2.0

I have installed the Cyanogen Mod 7.2.0 for 2 days now and I have encountered a problem that I don't know how to fix it. It is that on the main screen the button that enables to enter the apps section is missing and I can't get to those installed apps. However other shortcuts that are the main screen are working and can receive calls/sms/emails, etc.
There was a square button on the screen that helped entering the apps section, and now it is replaced with a star and it is inactive, by pressing it says "no application defined yet, drop something here".
does anyone how to fix it?
Press and hold on the main screen then select launcher actions then app drawer.
A shortcut to menu will be created.
Drag it into dock bar.

Thanks a lot... it helped
one other thing... is it possible to add more short cuts to the drop down? I see only for wifi, bluetooth, gps, and sound.
Yea go to settings/cyanogen/interface/notification power widget

[Q] I miss my search button!

Hi all,
l upgraded my phone from a Mt4G to a note 2, and have been Very pleased with it.
The only thing 1 miss, though, is the hardware search button on the bottom right. I understand That long- pressing the Menu key functions as a search , but it doesn't work in all apps . Notably, in Chrome for example. To get a Search going, I have to reach All the way to the top of the Screen to the address bar - a LONG reach on this screen!
please let me know if lm if I'm missing something here- Some additional function that makes up for my missing search key!
Thanks
Lee
Well youll get used to not having it. I used a lot of old androids with the hardware search button but now i dont even remeber using it.

You could always install LMT Launcher on XDA, then assign a search key through the pie controls.

[Q] How do you switch apps?

Forgive me if this is obvious. I'm coming from CM 10.1 and the LG interface is a huge turn off. I would expect the icon with three horizontal lines next to the home soft key to bring up the app switcher but it doesn't. Can I get that functionality on the G Pad? TIA.
Ron
I would like this to know the answer to this too. Is there any way to enable the default Jelly Bean launcher?
I figured it out after googling. You press and hold the home soft key.
Cm can't come fast enough on this tablet

Long press on home key is the default way to bring up the app switcher. You can install GMD Auto Hide app, you can set it up to give you a dedicated key to bring up the app switcher.

I hope it doesn't become inconveniently obvious that when I ask questions about using LG's interface that I am completely inexperienced with android phones. What I know comes from my satisfying CM 10.1 experience on two Nook tablets.
So anything that is familiar from the LG phone world (makes sense they'd do that) I won't know.
Two other things I'd like to do.
Eliminate the screaming half screen notification pull down for something "normal."
Change the background on the settings app to black rather than white.
Thanks,
Ron
you can use 3finger left slide to" minimize" an app and then recall sliding to the right too

You can change the soft buttons with Xposed Mod.

I expected different behaviour, too
Has also much more abilities than just changing the navigation bar.
Nice workaround for some things, until custom roms (hopefully) arrive ;D

Android Arrows on screen

I have a rooted Note 2014 with Clean Romo 1.0 on it. I mainly use my Note in tablet mode but hate having to use the default arrows on the side. I was hoping their was an app or a zip that enabled this so it would float to however you had your screen. Any ideas?

I assume you're referring to the soft navigation keys?
There are a number of apps if you search for soft navigation keys on Google Play. Maybe start with this one (as it doesn't seem you need root access to enable it)?

Edit: So I just installed the Handy SoftKeys app and it seems to do what you want it to do, although the placement on the screen is a little weird (middle of the screen on the right edge). The "back" key doesn't seem to work in every single application, but the "home" and "running apps" buttons seem to work okay.
