Thinking about downgrading Phones to get AOSP - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I currently have a HTC One and am thinking about selling it, pocketing most of the money and getting the Galaxy nexus. I really really want a stable AOSP build and the HTC one simply does not have one yet. What are your guy's opinion on making this switch? and how are the ROMS and Kernals for you guys?

Well since the One is better than the Nexus it would be a easy disicion for me. I think since the play store version is released the builds will come in in no time. I think it is only a matter of time before the aosp custom roms will come. The Galaxy Nexus has awesome kernel and ROM support since it is a Nexus phone. Some developers are leaving for the Nexus 4 but this phone is stille alive and there is plenty of development going on.

Read the rom/kernel Dev threads and see the comments. I suggest you wait, new nexus coming out. Meditate before coming back to the light (aka lite) side of the Force.

Why the galaxy nexus? Unless your on Verizon id go with the nexus 4 its about the same as the one.
I have a old Verizon gnex. Its super laggy on 4.2.2 I would reccomend faux kernel on 4.1.2 that is pretty fast

Why do I eat an ice cream sundae and drink a slurpee outside in minus 25 degree weather, while it's snowing, in the middle of winter? Because I can.
Okay so first we get 50,000 battery threads, then 20,000 Galaxy Nexus is slower than a flying bumblebee, and now we're on track for 1,000 Sense port threads. Why can't you people just join in someone else's topics?

the question is:
WHY?
Why is this in the Galaxy Nexus section? Should be moved to the Nexus S general section. In any case, seems like a stride in the backward direction.
lol
why htc
I agree that this shouldn't be in galaxy nexus general. But if we got a GB sense port, we would all flash it by curiosity.

Unfortunately I believe he meant to post it here, in hopes of more excitement. Since the nexus s folks are probably well aware of this. I'm going to let this remain for now, since there is a chance that someone may share his sentiments (albeit very very slim chance).
I'm not sure however why you would want sense on a nexus.

Seeing Sense on my Galaxy Nexus would scar me for life. I have already seen too much of Sense...terrible things, things that cannot be unseen. I wake at night in fear that my Nexus wants to suggest matching contacts. Noooooo. I kid, I don't think Sense is that bad. It is what it is.

[FEELER] Oxygen ROM for the Galaxy Nexus

I'm sure many people here have previously owned a Nexus One, Nexus S, Desire, or Galaxy SII. If you did, you probably remember the Oxygen ROM by AdamG. IMHO, it was the fastest and most bug-free Gingerbread ROM for the Nexus S.
I jokingly commented about Adam getting a GN and building Oxygen for it in Thalamus's kernel thread, and he posted the following:

Ha, I would if I had the money, however cash is tight until next month, I've been considering one for a while.

I wanted to see how many people would be willing to donate (and how much) to get Adam a GN so he can build Oxygen for it. If there is enough interest, I'll approach Adam about getting a fund for donations.
Please donate me, i m much beautiful than him and also need an GN..!!!

don't know if this is of any use or where AdamG lives but kogan (australia) are selling the gnexus pretty cheap.. i'm sure he'd know of a place to get the phone for cheap and not pay upwards of $500 though.. just so everyone knows, you shouldn't pay any more than $400 for this phone
Oxygen 4.1.1 would be awesome
What has Adam said about it?

I remember it being the most stable and smooth rom for the nexus s loved the minimalism in that rom ... unfortunately i can't donate being a student and living in the middle east with no cc or paypal -_-
Most missed roms were oxygen and hyperdroid when I moved to galaxy Nexus from galaxy s2. I loved the development and I hope we get to breathe some Oxygen on our Nexus Prime.

It was my go to rom for speed and stability on the NS. Kind of like Rasbean on the Gnex
Unless he is going to bring some magic to the Galaxy Nexus that other roms still don't have then I don't think anyone is going to donate to him, Oxygen was good on the NS but there are so many free ROMs on these forums now that are really great, no need to basically pay for one.
Also new nexus is coming out soon, start getting donations for anew nexus lmao. Good luck though

[Q] coming from galaxy nexus ... is it worth it?

Hi all,
I'm an HTC fan, I love design and material first of all, I like Sense UI but I also like stock UI and AOSP roms ...
I'm coming from a Galaxy Nexus and previously I owned the legendary Nexus One ... I love Nexus line and I really would love a new HTC nexus device ... but it seems we won't see one for a long time ...
Well, I'm searching for an HTC One X and I would like to spend around 400$ (you can find some offer on Amazon) ...
Someone here owned both a Galaxy Nexus and a One X and can give me some opinion? Is it worth to switch from GN to HOX??
How is developer community? Are there fully working 4.2.1 AOSP roms? I looked at developer section and seems quite active ... do you think I will miss ParanodiAndroid ROM or other fantastic ROM (like Xylon) available for the GNexus??
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Hi guys,
After few months I'm still attracted by the One X. I'm trading one on eBay for about 300€ used but in excellent conditions... I'm not impressed at all from new devices neither the Moto x nor HTC one and Galaxy S4 ... I still consider the one x the best in terms of design and materials ... And I still think that 1gb ram is enough for every kind of usage (I'm not a fanatic of mobile games) ...
So I'll be soon member of the HTC one x community that seems again one of the more lively ...

You shouldn't feel bad about your purchase. I'm quite happy with mine so far (except the overheating issue lately).
I don't have the AOSP version yet, so I can't really speak of the features that are/aren't going to be there.
I'm guessing if they make it true stock Android, there will be no Samsung bloat at all.
So it's basically a much more powerful version than any Nexus phone will ever be,
and as such the price is quite high. Personally, I would not consider it at that price.
I'm happy with my T-Mo, and with a few customization here or there, I can always get stock.
This is really geared toward the hard-core Android fans/developers. You can't doubt the S4 has the best internal hardware
of any phone out there, and there lies possibilities.
I also heard the news from google I/O. Does this mean that this version of the S4 will be as open as a nexus and easy for developers to make their custom ROMs for it?

Sony basically did the same thing with the ZR, took complaints and made a new phone out of it
Just purchased a 600$ Ip57 phone? Well there's IP58 now! (Waterproof not resistant)
It's good to have options, but honestly most people that buy pure vanilla Android are experienced users. Most will have no clue rather it's Vanilla or not.
So there in lies the questions. Why put this out after and most that come here that have an s4 already hacked it to death no? So I don't see the point of the users here who want to upgrade to this when you just put a vanilla type ROM on it.

Not true. my nexus 4 gets bugs every once in a while.
If the hardware is identical to the tmoble version then you should just be able to flash the image through Odin right? Seems kind of like the galaxy nexus where you flash takju from yakju or whatever and boom, you are getting the Google play version of updates, wallet functionality etc. If anything it says Samsung has opened their flagship to aosp right?
Even if you think $650 is too much this means that potentially, Samsung will get touch wiz updates to new versions faster as there will be nexus level compatibility with each new android update. I'm not saying immediate but they will have an inside track based on the fact that Google will actively update their device through AOSP for at least 2 years.

CM will always have bugs due to the way they change the Android coding. Where it is stable and great work people should never look for a bug free OS

[Q] Any stock android ROMS for T999?

Hey guys, so recently I dropped and cracked my Nexus 4 and the digitizer stopper responding, and I was forced to sell it on ebay. I love the Nexus experience, and every phone I've owned to this date (Nexus or not) has run a stock Android ROM. So I was just offered a good price for a tmobile Galaxy S3 and I was wondering if there are and stock 4.3 ROMs for the d2tmo. The newest supernexus rom (v3.0) is not supported by the d2tmo, but is by the galaxy s2 i9100 which I am now considering because of that. I was wondering if anyone could point me to a ROM that provides an almost nexus experience for the US versions of the Galaxy S3. I have searched for hours and haven't found anything yet. Cheers!

Thanks for the recommendation, I came across that ROM when I was searching earlier. Does anyone know why there haven't been many attempts at an AOSP stock ROM for this specific version of the Galaxy S3? Is it just an unpopular concept or is the hardware of the device difficult to develop on?

I'd say start with Galaxy S3 Resource Bible. Practically all the roms are listed there with a short summary or review.
There are 4 variations of this device in US. One for each carrier. T-Mo has a SGH-T999L as well as T999N. Those 2 have different radio antenna but rest the same. So if you check for roms on the 4 carriers sub forums, you will se plenty roms.
A lot of developers have made the roms for ATT Version SGH-I747. People realized it works just fine for T-Mo version. So these are called ATT/TMO roms. To my knowledge Slim, Illusion, Pacman and Liquid offer version 4.3 All of these are AOSP 'ish. I personally used to use Liquid but after a lot of shopping around, moved to Slim Rom. I am told KitKat version of Slim, the SlimKat is around the corner. Their current 4.3 version has been rock solid and is out for quiet some time. If you liked the Nexus experience, you will like Slim equally.
