Hardware compatibility list for RT-where is it? - Windows RT General

I saw a link somewhere, for the RT. Cannot find it now.

I was going to use a let me google that link, but actually, it gave a different set of search results to google :/
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/winrt/CompatCenter/Home
Was first result when I searched "windows rt hardware compatibility" on google, was on the 3rd page of lmgtfy for some reason.
its the same page as the windows 8 compatibility checker, theres just a dropdown box in the top right to switch between 8 and RT.

Well that explains it, I only went two pages deep, and did not see it, tried several ways to google it.
UPDATE:
That was a page I did go to, but it does not show what is compatible with Surface RT.
thanks

split out Win7 and Window >6.5 in the forum "Devices by" drop down?

Hi,
i often use the drop down at the top of the forum, to list "Devices by OS or Manufacturer"
Would it not now be a good idea to split out Win7 from previous iterations of Windows, seeing as these may as well be totally different OSs now?
It would save a lot of scrolling and searching on occasion
Just a thought, thanks for all the continued good work
I think a sub-menu under 'All Windows Mobile Devices' would be nice, but not a top-level one, then it would be too long a list at the top of the page.
Oh...and add Nokia, they are coming to the U.S. market very soon.

Browser Crash \ Read an article for me on your 900

I think there is a bug in the Windows Phone IE implementation.
Even on my Focus I had tabs simply go blank while I was reading them or after I opened them but before I got to read them. It wasn't repeatable until now. Previously I reopened the same article a second time and it was usually fine. The reason it is so problematic is the way I read articles. I have an igoogle page full of RSS feeds from the top two dozen sites I follow. I skim the igoogle page and open the first five articles I want to read in other tabs, then I go back and read them one at a time. I would read engadget or gizmodo similarly. If the articles span multiple pages then I when click the "next button" I switch tabs to another article while the page loads. Maybe it is obvious to everyone but I do it this way so I don't have to wait for pages to load. Also I have my internet website settings on my phone set to desktop preference rather than mobile.
Anyway, the fact that the pages would go blank was most annoying because when I opened a tab that went blank I would have to go back through the original list of articles to figure out which one I had missed.
I couldn't duplicate it until I tried to read this article:
http://www.pheedcontent.com/click.phdo?i=d3debfc5accaa909f0cd201b356bfdc0
The article is pretty interesting - it is Tom's Hardware take on the new Intel Z77 chipset and Lucidlogix implementation. I would appreciate if anyone would try to read it for me. You will have to set your browser preference on the 900 to "desktop version" to duplicate the bug. I can sometimes get two or three pages in clicking 'next' before it crashes in one way or another. If nobody can duplicate my problem then my Lumia is going back for another 900.
Brought me to m.tomshardware.com for an article called "Intel’s Z77 Express And Lucidlogix MVP: New Features For Gamers - Z77 Express: USB 3.0 And Enhanced Manageability" with no problems...

Update: So then I went back and opened the link with the browser in desktop mode and was able to get it to crash around the 4th page. However... I saw some funky rendering on the 3rd page so I'm not sure what caused the crash (could have been bad code from the article's site not handled well in IE).

Thanks. I have submitted this as a bug. I am surprised that more people haven't commented on "desktop version" crashes in Windows Phone Internet Explorer. Maybe I should switch back to "mobile version" since most sites are now coded correctly for that.

[Guide] Activate Windows 8 Permanently

UPDATE: Personalization does NOT work in METRO. Everything works flawlessly and I tend to stay in desktop mode so I didn't realize this. DESKTOP MODE CAN BE PERSONALIZED. This still gives you enables everything I wanted so I don't see the problem. My metro background doesn't matter to me. I can also just install a win7 start menu, but again I have no issues and this works flawlessly.
A tool called "Windows 8 Activator For Build 9200 (Sep 2012)" (Google it, LINK BELOW) will permanently activate Windows 8. Specifically the latest build. Just run it and follow the simple instructions.
MOD EDIT: WAREZ LINK REMOVED

If this doesn't comply with forum rules let me know. There is another thread describing how to remove activation watermark and notification, this does the same thing but actually removes it instead of hiding it.

The comments seem to be all over the place, I don't see definite proof it will work.
Isn't this classed as warez and is completely banned by xda, why would you want to steal windows 8 anyway? The upgrades only like £20 & I've tried the rtm on a friends pc, its awesome!

idk what to say. I'm no expert tell me a way to show you that my windows 8 copy is fully activated and I'll show you. It worked perfect you dont't need anything complicated. It opens command prompt and works.

Understood. However for people who want to use all the features so they download the newest build (9200) but they run into activation watermarks and notifications. When Windows 8 comes out (October 26th) aka a long time from know, I will most likely buy a licence if not a Surface.
For now however this works. This gives you Windows 8 as it will be on October 26th. working perfectly. I have it on my Acer Aspire One 722 netbook and it works flawlessly AMD has a consumer driver preview for Windows 8 and everything runs smooth.
Apparently this still won't let you personalize. OP pm me plz.

What do people mean "won't let your personalize."? Is there something I am missing?
Also OP, how do you know it was permanently installed, and not 90/180 days?

No, it's classified as malware, as in "let's infect all the dumb pirates desperate for keys". Kiddies need to learn about social engineering at some point, and this is a good time as any.

Same problem here, please contact me if you found a solution.
it doesn't let you personalize because Win8 isn't really activated, even though the messages tell you it is. The system files have been tempered with. Read more on MDL about this. It has been shown many times that it fakes activation.
http://forums.mydigitallife.info/th...if-any/page466?p=630762&viewfull=1#post630762
if you do a sfc /scannow and reboot you will see that your system is not activated. If you feel comfortable with it you can keep the files, however you need to realize that you are in fact not activated.
(to find out whether personalization works or not, got to the metro screen, move mouse bottom right corner to open settings in the charm bar, at the bottom you see Change PC settings, try to personalize Lock screen, start screen, account picture - if you are activated you have no problems here, if you are not it's likely greyed out)
best solution to get activated at the moment is to wait for a KMS server or wait until Oct26 to purchase it. You can try to register a PC you may purchase or already purchased here and hope that you only have to pay $15 when it comes out (for a PC you haven't actually purchased). It may or may not work. Many believe that MS won't be able to check that many registered PCs to see if these have actually been recently purchased. We will see.
good luck

the more important point is that you are not activated. System files have been replaced and sooner than later with a Windows Update these files will be fixed. Just letting you know and that you are aware of it. The system "fakes" activation - period. It spoofs some strings and flips some "switches" to make things appear that you are activated when in fact you are not.
You can do everything else without Win8 activation as well and use the system forever. You have the watermark and a reminder to activate. You can remove the watermark and activation reminder with the remover somebody made . However, that patch will not report that you are activated, it will only remove watermark and bypass activation message. Your OP reports on a nasty (not only my opinion) patch that replaces some system files that actually fake activation. You should at least change the statement that it will permanently activate Windows8, this is not true and has been proven to be fake (see MDL posts).
I personally don't like patches that replace system files that I am not aware of and that claim to give you activation when in fact it replaces text within dll's that fool you. If you want to be informed on how to activate Win8 I suggest reading the MDL forum about Win8 activation.

as much as I don't like his attitude, he is correct that it is malware.
It is not ACTIVATED! I downloaded to try and downloaded Microsoft something. I forget what its called but it checks for stuff on your computer that is not activated and Windows 8 was on there and said Windows 8 is not genuine. SO there you go.
I did manage to activate it permanently though by getting a serial number off a youtube vid and activate via UK Microsoft number and worked WITH personalize working!!!!
THIS IS ILLEGAL. DO NOT POST CRACKS FOR ACTIVATING WINDOWS.

[Q] cant view my dvr cameras on windows rt

Hi all
I have purchased a windows Rt and love it. The only thing I can't figure out is I can't access my dvr cameras though internet explorer on my device through my ip address and port number. I can view it on my desktop pc.
Is there any app or way I can view my dvr host on windows rt??

How is the DVR content presented? If it's HTML(5), that should be no problem at all, so it's probably not. The next most likely is Flash, which RT supports but which may not work when specifying an IP address. You could try using the registry tweak that was previously required for Flash on unknown sites (see the EnableFlash script in my signature). If it's a Java applet, you're screwed (in more ways than one; if you've had the Java browser plugin enabled on your home PC for the last few months, there's an excellent chance that your machine has been infected through it; that thing has atrocious security bugs). If it's some other third-party plugin, for example an ActiveX control from the DVR manufacturer, it's probably not going to work on RT just because RT run on ARM chips and typical ActiveX controls are compiled for x86 (it's possible to make ARM ActiveX, but nobody does and you'd need to "jailbreak" the device before installing the plugin anyhow).

The DVR is set up with its own ip and port forwarding number, and that how I connect to it from other desktop PC's. Or it gives me an option to view it through a program called CMS lite which the Win RT doesn't allow me the download. I have jailbroken my RT as well.
What happens when you connect to that IP and port on your RT device? What do you see in the browser (if anything)? Does it connect, or does it say it couldn't find the site? You haven't actually explained the problem very well at all, even to the point of saying what device it is. We probably don't have your exact setup at home, so you'll need to be very precise describing it so that we know how to fix it.
You also didn't answer my question in the previous post. How is the content normally presented? Flash or HTML5 should be fine, but *might* take some tweaking. Java or a plugin are unlikely to work, although I suppose it's possible that the x86 emulator could be made to work with a plugin.
For that matter, have you tried the x86 emulator with your CMS Lite program? It's unlikely to work, but worth a shot.

my device is a windows rt surface. when I open internet explorer and type in my ip and port number in the search engine it comes up with my login and password which I type in. after that the screen comes to a blank white screen which gives me the option. Webserver or CMS lite setup I always view them from webserver. Once I click webserver the screen just says on a blank white screen.
as for how the content present normally im not really sure.
A simple way to tell is to load the page in a desktop browser where it works, then right-click the video and see what menu comes up. If it's the Flashplayer menu, that's something that RT can handle. If it's something else (Silverlight or Java or a custom ActiveX), that may not be possible. Another way to tell would be to save that blank page to a file (I believe Ctrl+S works for this, at least on the desktop mode of IE, or you can do it from the Tools->File menu, or the File menu on the menu bar that is shown when you tap Alt). Send or post the HTML somewhere that we can read it, and we can tell you what it will take to view the page.
another question.. im still new to the windows rt group I have jail broken the RT surface. Is there any torrent client for downloads.
I wanna download movies from a website. thanks
Free Download Manager (it is in the ported apps thread) can be used as a torrent client. However discussion of piracy is prohibited so might want to zip it on the movies part.
Monotorrent was attempted on RT but I think ended up being buggy.

Read the forum rules, especially the first one. Then, read my signature. I don't mind helping people find obscure stuff, but this does not qualify. Please put forth at least a little effort on your own part...
I shouldn't have to share a link having told you where it is. Its easy to find, a) its in the list of ported applications in the RT development and hacking section. b) it has its own thread in that same section. c) it is listed on google. d) it is listed on forum search.

snes8x taken off Windows Store

I was trying to unpin snes8x tonight and I think I uninstalled it. At least, it is no longer among my installed programs.
I went to the store to try to download it and it is no where to be found. I'm so angry!

There isn't a chance that un-pinning the app caused a check with the store, is there? That would be so messed up if it did. I hope I just accidentally uninstalled it.

Sadly, I don't. I have a Surface 2 with Windows 8.1
I'm trying to find the snes8x's developer's website, but it doesn't seem like there is one. The Windows Phone version is still in the store, though I see they've changed their icon. Maybe the old icon was too similar to the Microsoft logo? (four colored squares in the snes colors).

Wow, that's really annoying, this is one of the few store applications I've actually used. It's also a good example of why I'm not a huge fan of the store model... a user has no recourse when something gets pulled, and no control over rolling back updates, etc. Now I'm really thankful for the snes9x port... especially if snes8x never comes back...
I think that the dev removed it because all of his apps are no longer in the store

That's sad. The Windows Phone version of snes8x is still on the marketplace, but I'm noticing now that they have different publishers. Are the two versions not associated?
So, some further developments if anyone is interested:
Seems the original developer dropped the project but was nice enough to pass it on to another dev that revived the Windows Phone editions. I haven't yet found news on the Windows 8 edition being revived, but I found the source code:
Article:
http://www.wpcentral.com/snes8x-vba8-vgbc8-emulators-delisted-again
Source [win8/wp8] (snes8x, vba8x, vgbc8x):
https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=631e...7&ithint=folder,.zip&authkey=!AMcy8hX76lpiQaw
Also, I was delighted to discover that, on a Windows 8 PC (not RT, I tried this on a Surface Pro), it will permit you to download the app from the Windows Store if your account already "owns" it. Fortunately I had downloaded it before, so that worked for me! I am totally puzzled as to why it would allow me on the Surface Pro and not my RT. Puzzled and angered! If it is okay on the Pro, then it is an absolutely arbitrary restriction to block it on the RT. Evil.
I'm going to look into side-loading it on the RT. Forgive me for not researching this first, but am I correct that it is possible to side-load windows store apps on a non-jailbroken device? And... another assumption... that Windows Run-Time Apps use the same code on Windows 8 RT and Windows 8, so I could copy the files from the Pro and plop them on the RT? Maybe I'm way off-base here... Not expecting anyone to do the work for me... just kinda announcing my next plan of attack and would welcome any wisdom on the subject.
Could someone reupload them as they currently are? Are there any legal issues(with logos, names etc..)?
Since the source is a vs solution anyone could just create and upload app packages.

I think that is probably why the dev made the source available. He just doesn't want to pay for app publishing anymore. He'd probably welcome someone to republish the app (for free, since it would be shady to profit from his work). Of course, one should obtain direct permission from the author before republishing their work.
I am the developer who continue the development of these emulators on windows phone. On windows store, some guy has republished VBA8 and VGBC8 for free. Oddly, no one bothers to republish Snes8x yet. If no one else do that I will compile the original source code and put it up on the store for everyone.
Edit: here is the link to the republished app. Enjoy.
