[Q] i747 & i9300 Housings The Same?? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I would like to change the housing on my i747M S3, not that there is anything wrong with it, except a few scratches, I just like the garnet red better and I have another 2 years left on my contract.
A couple of questions about the housings sold on eBay...
1) Are the housings for the i747 and the i9300 the same, or do I need a specific housing for the i747? There are more choices for the i9300, so I was just curious.
2) What is the glass surface like on these non-Samsung (I believe) screens? Is there an oleophobic coating like on the original screens?
3) I know people have changed their screens successfully, but how much of a chance is there of me screwing up the digitizer? I am good with my hands and mechanically inclined, so my abilities are not an issue.
Thanks for the info,
Ian

1. No. Not the same. The interiors are different to accommodate different boards.
2. The non Samsung ones that I've seen are just regular, not even Gorilla, glass.
3. If I were a betting person, I'd say odds are about 25% that you'd either overheat, scratch, or crack it.
Others will jump in, I'm sure...

Housing are the same in All S3. Now if you wanted to change the moderboard is another story. The moderboard of the internarional s3 is different than the s3 here in the US due to the quad cored chip and dual cored

Digitizer and Housing for Rhodium (TMOUS)

I dropped my Rhodium on asphalt.....its operational but there are scratches on the right edge of the digitizer and housing. Anyone knows where I can buy a digitizer and housing parts for a T-Mobile US Touch Pro 2? The housing and digitizer is a little different from the other Touch Pro 2s
Am another one
Well,
I have exactly same problem. But inspite of that guy i bought a damaged piece of that phone from ebay.
Its got completely destroyed Housing and the Digitizer seems to be bad to.
I would like to kick myself that I didnt knew, that the T-Mobile version is different...
I knew that ATT mades different housing, but T-Mobile...
So guys, is there a chance to get a housing and specificaly for the T.-Mobile HTC TP2 and If there is not, is it possible to convert the T-Mobile version into standard one? Using stanard housing and digitizer... ??
Thanks alot for your reply
The button layout and the shape is a little different between the T-Mobile US version and the HTC gsm version.....I already did my research.
But where to get that housing...
It seems that I have found a guy on ebay who is able to get me the Digitizer, but not the housing...
You found a digitizer? PM me the name of the seller if he has more.
As for the housing, how about using a T-Mobile TP2 display housing since there is none available yet? I saw a couple of Ebay sellers with dummy displays

Only one seller right now.
I have been buying some parts off eBay for my original Tilt and some from another website www.fonlogix.us
FonLogix also has instructional videos of how to dismantle the phone but I think those are the Wiki's here too.
I have not checked to see whether fonlogix has parts for the TP2, as modified by Tmo. I have to order parts for a BB Curve later so I will check but you can check them out. You can also google it. There are a number of companies that are selling the parts for phones.

Well am awaiting the photos of that digitizer first. If he will send me those, then am gonna give you his contact on eBay..
Do you think that those dummy phones uses the real Housing? If so, than its a awesome idea, but am raelly not sure about it...
And the second problem is, that they do not ship outside US
If you are getting both the Digitizer & Housing you should be able to use any one that doesn't have the headphone jack hole. The internal guts "should be the same. The main difference is the T-Mobile one has a different digitizer & bezel. Just my thought on this.

Well, the housing is a actual problem, as long as I cant find it anywhere.
As what I have heard, the backplate and battery cover should hass the same dimensions and the only thing that is different is the front bezel and the digitizer, that has got different buttons position. ( at least the Tmobile version looks nicer to me
did any one have any luck with housings or if a dummy phone will work

Galaxy nexus screen replacement

A friend of mine broke their screen I ordered the parts from gounlock.com is there a good reference for repairing it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Only place I can think of is ifixit.com but I'm not sure how detailed they are

I have to replace my screen as well on my Galaxy Nexus (See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474979), so I was wondering if you could give me a recap on GoUnlock.com:
Did the replacement part work? Was shipping time acceptable? Were they shady?

I'm also looking for reference about GoUnlock.com because I need to replace my digitizer. Anyone can say anything good or bad about them?
Btw Zathman, just in case, make sure you really want to change the full "LCD + Digitizer" package, which afaik is usually expensive. Maybe only the "touchscreen glass (digitizer)" is damaged, while the "displaying device (LCD)" that is behind could still be working fine (that is my case). LCD+Digitizer ~ $250, Digitizer only is ~$50.
found this online
http://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyNexus/comments/qzefr/broke_my_lcd_last_week_sent_it_into_samsung_on/
They had samsung replace it.
Only 163, and they do all the work, plus shipping.
Sounds pretty good.

Well, I guess it depends. For the RAZR some online shops seems to have sold it in the past, although now they are all out of stock (maybe there are a lot of RAZR screen broken... don't know).
Try searching for "digitizer" and the phone model on ebay, and google...
Aren't the glass and digitizer glued together in the nexus? If so, you have to get both. Only phones where they're separate can you swap digitizer separately.
bow chicka wow wow.

Yes they are fused together in this phone, you can't get them separately. But hey on the plus side, no screen dust leakage!
Has anyone found a decent guide on replacing this screen? I've been looking all morning and found a few teardowns but nothing concrete. I have a cracked screen on my nexus and have a whole nother nexus i'm going to use as a replacement...
Thanks.

I'm interested in this as well, my boss dropped his week old GS3 and cracked the screen so I need to replace it for him.
I'd say that's a good price for what I've been seeing. But are you sure you're looking at an s3 LCD replacement and not the s2?

Sooo.. Anyone have the best option for repairing the glass/digitizer on a GT-I9300 in the states?
Yeah I cracked mine a few months back.
Tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890708 to change the glass and ended up accidentally tearing off the digitizer and basically cooking it.
Sent it to Samsung, $180 and 8 days later they sent it back good as new. New glass, digitizer, screen AND bezel (had a slight crack in it). Definitely the route I'd recommend going.

That's pretty good deal when you must replace digitizer. All I see on ebay (at least fro Verizon phones) is $200 minimum. Here you will not only get this thing professionally replaced, but also not have to do it yourself, and end up paying less!!!
I wish I was aware of this option before I went about ordering digitizers on ebay, and to add insult to injury ended up ordering a wrong one
Get one with he home button on it. That means you will get one with the bezel which means much easier install. Just unscrew and replace. Ones without bezel are pretty tedious as you need your old bezel.

I'll be calling samsung tonight to get a quote but for my and future screen breaker's info please answer this:
On ebay you can see pics of the back of the assembly showing i535 or i710 or i9300
is there actually a difference in these? some sellers say that a i9300 lcd will only fit the i9300 not the i535 or i710
is this true or are they all misinformed? i'm sure samsung will say there's a difference but has anyone actually replaced their assembly with a different model?
UPDATE** when i talked to samsung i learned the answer to my question!
the LCD is the same across all platforms, glass too.
the frame however varies. i also read about someone using a different frame than what their carrier used, he had to mickey mouse the whole thing, said he couldnt use his home button, and to use the lock/ power button he had to roll up tape and shove it in... all in all the whole thing was rattley and far from factory.
send to samsung

Lcd/Digitizer repair question

Has anyone replaced this on their note 2? I'm looking to purchase the combo so I don't have to separate the glass from the digitizer and introduce any dust under the screen...I've watched the videos but would like to hear from anyone who has done it . Are there any tips I need or certain things to look for? It seems pretty easy but these guys have probably done it a few times..Does the housing go back together pretty solid?
Thanks.

Quotes from my roommate and things I know on the subject: Should you try to replace the digitizer only (from experience working with the SIII and other AMOLED devices.) Your biggest problem isn't going to be dust, but accidentally damaging the AMOLED. If you have worked with AMOLEDs before or know anything about them, they are extremely thin and therefore quite fragile. My advice is to just replace the assembly. There is a film that goes on the back of the AMOLED. Roommate says he doesn't know what the film does, he thinks it may have something to do with the stylus. It does have a header that attaches to the main board, so be careful. Just know, unless you are in a clean room (and I'm talking professional setting, like you would see in manufacturing) you are going to end up with dust if you decide to replace only the digitizer. Good luck.
I have complete white screens for $190 shipped.
Much easier than just replacing the digi.

Do the SPRINT digitizers work for VERIZON (N7100) ? If so, I may be interested in purchasing.
I know the stock phones have a Wacom digitizer/ screen made especially for the s-pen. Will these replacement screens work just as good as stock? The whole point of the Note 2 as opposed to other touch screen phones is to have that flawless stylus experience.

[Q] Sprint S3 color change?

I have a sprint galaxy s3 in pebble blue and i like the color, but the black model from verizon strikes my eyes the most and would love the frame from the brown s3 which i believe is under att. So i was wondering if there was a way to purchase those particular color choices and take my s3 apart to build the ultimate s3. The only problem i can see is the fact that both att and verizon have sim card slots where as sprint does not. Is there a way to have this done without switching carriers or throwing a skin on my current s3?

Well, basically 2 choices... The cheapest and least desirable (to me) would be to buy a glass (digitizer) with a black frame about $10 PLUS the cost of the "LOCA" uv cured glue . Separate the glass from the lcd as if you were doing a cracked glass repair. Many videos on the subject.
The better but far more expensive method is to buy the digitizer (glass) and lcd as one unit. Many videos on this method also. Best price I've seen for this part is about $150 give or take $20.
Check eBay for prices. The parts are basically the same for all variants of the S3 but read the descriptions carefully.
YouTube has many videos on these methods.
PM me for more info.
