[Q] Navigation gone? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
When I looked at my phone this morning, GT-N7100, I noticed an empty gap where the blue arrow of the Navigation App used to be.
The app itself seems to be gone too.
Does anyone else have the same problem?
Did Samsumg somehow discontinue the app?
Can it be uninstalled without me doing anything or knowing about it?
What am I missing here?
Hope someone can help.
Best,
Jan

What is the name of the app and it will not automatically remove or uninstall it

It's called Navigation and it's a standard app. The one with the blue arrow as an icon.

It was gone suddenly.
Samsung says it's not possible and recommends to reset and start from scratch.

Reflashing the most recent stock ROM (with Odin) didn't bring it back either.

Look in your app drawer. If it's not there, go into the Play store and try to re-download Google Maps. This is part of their map application.
Failing that,
press menu button,
press settings,
press application manager,
scroll down to maps, press it
Press, clear cache,
press clear data,
press force stop,
press uninstall.
It may ask if you wish to go back to previous version.
Reboot.
Then go into Play store, reinstall Maps, or if it tells you there's an update, let it update.
Hopefully that will work.

Tried it.
Didn't work.
Went back to the factory version. Rebooted and updated again.
Still no Navigation App.
Thanks though.
Any other thoughts/solutions?

Maps updated to 7.0.1.
Navigation is still gone.

Navigation has gone in the new maps.
I updated yesterday now instead of pressing 1 icon typing the address then off I go I have to press at least 5 differe t things to get the same result.
Just sent feedback via Google+
Not pleased by this. It's a backward step.

So Navigation really IS gone???
I always used text to speech to select the destination.
Samsung still wants me to go back to factory settings because Navigation should still be there.
Confused!
Jan

Yep in the new maps the stand alone navigation icon has gone!
And there are more presses just to get to the start point!
Bad move by Google.

Thanks for replying so fast.
So a Maps update just removed Navigation?
Samsung says it comes with the ROM and can not be uninstalled.
Is Samsung wrong? How can they not know about this?
So all the features Navigation was offering are gone?
Jan

the new maps includes the navigation, just open maps as normal, click the arrow in the upper right and enter your target and you´ll be fine

Thank!
It's totally different, but it works.
A lot of features got added.
No one touch voice input anymore, but still.
Funny thing is that when I uninstalled all Maps updates for the second time and went back to the system version, after rebooting I had the Navigation icon back.
I put the blue arrow icon on my home screen.
After updating Maps, the blue arrow icon remained on the home screen. It's not in the apps list anymore however.
Very weird.
Jan

It can still be added to home as a custom shortcut if you use a 3rd party launcher that supports adding "activities" I suspect google will put it back soon as your average joe wont understand how to access it in maps.

I use Nova Launcher, which lets me add activities!
I found Navigation under Maps, so the blue arrow is back! Thanks!
It does the same as tapping the arrow in the top right windows in Maps.
So it only saves you one tap.
Still glad I found it because of your tip.
Thanks again.

Are you on a custom rom, or unrooted stock? If you're on a custom rom, make sure you flashed the proper gapps and didnt just sideload the playstore
Also, did you do anything before getting this error? Did it just randomly come up while using the play store?

I was under the impression this was a temporary solution and the problem would resurface. Will try.
Also updated my firmware to MA6; but the problem still exists.
Adding a 2nd Google account, removing the original, re-adding the original, & removing the 2nd Google account worked.
Thanks & Thanked.

I think its because the uploaded apk is for android 4.2. What rom are you using and what android version?
Apparently, you have to type or say " OK Maps" in the search bar to view offline maps.

Yea I was disappointed at first when I found the same problem, but this seems to be the answer to this for the time-being. It doesn't allow as wide a view when caching, it seems I can just barely get all of NYC into one screen anymore without being told to zoom in.

Thanks for this, mate! :good: Works good on both my nexus devices! But just so everyone knows this is still partly (Nav & certain other stuff) in beta Guess they are really dumping Latitude just like they did with Reader. Good move on their part though. Never really found it that useful anyways :victory:

I wonder if they did this intentionally, since the new map app directions look similar to new navi just not green at the top, also don't see any navi installed, so it could be built in to the maps app.
Anyone else have keyboard cut off issues in landscape mode?
Otherwise it's a good update.
I'm also finding the new saved "ok maps" feature actually loads up much quicker, even when zooming in/out, likely since the save file is of a much smaller area.

Well if built in meant there was a button that launched another app then yes it was there previously.
But then now we'd also have to say Google earth is built in to the new maps app since it is listed under the side slide menu, yet still launches a separate app, which needs to be installed.

What's so great about version 7? With version 6.*, all I have to do is tap the microphone icon and speak. With version 7, first I have to tap the search bar, THEN tap the microphone, speak the address I'm wanting...THEN tap it again to route the map.
Version 6...One tap and I'm off to the races.
Version 7...three taps to do the same.
Would you mind explaining your shortcut to eliminate the extra inputs?

Nothing's "great" about 7. But it's better than having to avoid the update in the market. No matter what you do, TiBu detach, etc, it WILL show back up as an update, and that's just annoying
As for the shortcut to Navigation, that's simple. I did it in Nova in seconds, but your launcher may vary.. Long-press, Create Shortcut, Activities, Map, look for the Navigation intent. Created the typical blue pointer icon etc.
BTW, 7.2 makes Navigation less pokes. I agree that 7.0/7.1 you had to tap about 5 times to navigate which seemed pretty silly.

Actually no, even though Nova is much nicer than the AOSP launcher. But you don't have to change, there are apps in the market to create shortcuts.
I don't use any of them since Nova does it itself, but this seemed to find some: https://play.google.com/store/search?q=create shortcut
Sounds like I should take the Nova for a drive. I've heard about it,just never had the need...'til now.

I see... the first screenshot is not yours.
No idea then... maybe try settings - apps - all - htc blinkfeed - clear data
(you need to setup your homescreen again)
See also whether you can clear the SystemUI data (maybe can't - usually data button is greyed out)

no luck. i don't know what's happened with my update. am i the only one?
I have seen a few people have this problem with the missing 3 dots. No idea what's causing it.
Did those few people tried factory reset and worked again?
Solved it after doing a factory reset, but after a few days, happened again, this time, just the google search bar was gone.
I cleared the data and cache of htc blinkfeed, google play services, google search. Still nothing. I was about to submit the bug report to htc, but their email support's not working at all.
recent apps issue on lollipop
i have the same exact issue on my asian m8x, doing a factory reset...hoping it will be fixed :silly:
factory reset did fix the recent apps issue, but the google search bar disappeared as well after a day or so. i think it's an issue with the updated google search app. launching google now from the home button, the google circle thingy doesn't have the "Google" text in it, just a plain white circle...
I don't think it's from the new version of google app, cause I got this type of problem first with version 3.6 or whatever version it is before 4.1. Have you guys tried sumbmitting a bug report to htc website or where ever they receive bug reports?
No one had this problem but me and @shievary?
I have the same problem...and I won't do factory reset for this tiny problem.
Again i did a factory reset. I restored my apps using helium premium and htc account backup and restore. Works fine now, hopefully it stays this way.
I had the exact same problem with my European HTC one m8 and I have seemed to fix it by turning my screen landscape when I press recent apps
I was having the same issue, and discovered that uninstalling the "screen off and lock" app seemed to fix it. Do you guys have it installed?

Amazon Kindle App Can't Be Disabled!

This is really stupid Sammy! I downloaded your Kindle app for Samsung devices from your Galaxy store so I can take advantage of a free book once a month, but now I have 2 Kindle apps in my app drawer, and I can't disable the BLOATWARE one that came stock.
Since Apple has announced lately that iPhone users will soon be able to uninstall pre-installed BLOATWARE apps, the simple iPhone is looking tempting (lol! Just kidding I'm always been a Note fan).
But STILL!!!

Weird. My GFs Note 4 was able to remove the standard Amazon Kindle app a few months ago. She also uses the free book option on the Samsung Kindle app. Maybe something has changed with the Note 5 and that app.

If you uninstall the app updates, and then try to disable it, it goes through the prompt as if it will disable, yet it will remain in the app drawer.
I installed the Samsung's version of the Kindle app before I uninstalled the stock Kindle updates. Maybe that might be the issue. I dunno.
Also, I'm really irritated with Sammy's white backgrounds.
Well, I got it to disable and disappear! This is how I did it.
After Unregistering the Samsung kindle app. I then uninstalled it, leaving only the stock kindle app shown.
I then cleared the system cache on the Samsung Note 5 by:
1) Turning off the Samsung Note 5
2) Press and hold the Volume Up, Power and Home buttons at the same time until the Android logo shows up and the phone vibrates
3) Then let go of the Power button and continue to hold the other buttons
4) Use the volume buttons to scroll down to highlight Wipe Cache Partition
5) Press the Power button
6) Scroll down to Yes and press the Power button
7) Scroll to Reboot System Now and press Power

Your Note 5 will reboot with a cleared system cache.
I then went into the App Manager and found the stock kindle app and tried "once again" to disable it. However, this time it disappeared from the app drawer.
I then re-installed the Samsung's Kindle app from the Galaxy app store.
It's now all good!
I clicked disable and it was gone.
Sounds like the icon was just being cached in the app drawer for whatever launcher you're using. Just clearing the cache of the launcher (or even rebooting) probably would have worked as well.
Regardless, glad you already worked it out.

Ran into something similar with the pre-installed instagram, which is actually just a link to download/install instagram from play store I think. Anyway I've always used a customized instagram from OGMods which allows download of pics, but since I can't uninstall the preloaded version, and I can't install the custom version since an existing version exists... annoying!

I have it, already tried - even disabled the other one won't install - I think as long as the com.instagram.andoroid exists, it won't let another one install.

EDIT - I got lucky, the dev has a companion app called OGInsta+, which allow multiple accounts, which I was able to install even though the normal Instagram+ would not.
