[Q] Downgrade Ace 2 GT-I8160L to GB from JB - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, Last week I upgraded my Ace 2 GT-I8160L to official JB in hope of improved performance, speed and stability but what I got was random hiccups, freezes and reboots. RAM was increased to 624MB though, is there any way to downgrade it to GB just like GT-I8160 ? I can't find odin files for PIT & CSC of GB firmware for GT-I8160L

You can't go back to GB. But try installing kyrillos v8. It's insanely fast I heard. Follow the link on my signature

But you can, sure only tested on i8160P but i am pretty sure it applies for non p and l versions. Just need to have proper dump and backup of cspsa, efs and modem fs partitions.

edit the updater-script in the V8 rom to allow install on the "L" otherwise you'll get an assert fail error.
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "GT-I8160L" && getprop("ro.build.id") == "JZO54K")

Best ROM is CM 10.1. It is fast and stable, it has only a few bugs.

first: my phone is i8160L, ive updated to jelly beans but the phone performs really slow. ram is always full and its verys frustrating.
second: ive tried to go back to ginger bread but the phone gets stuck in a bootloop. ive tried with an official firmware and also with the custom which have three parts. none of them works. odin shows me the fail message when i mark re-partition option.
so the thing is: how to really go back to gingerbread?
which files? which firmware? which odin?
is not allowing me not install other firm , only allowed GT-I8160L VERSION ONLY. WHICH ARE NOT WORKING , ANYONE can help me with GT-I8160L WITH 3 FILE or 5 parts please provide link please , thanks
What is your reason to go back to gb? Because i'll never go back cm10 is much smoother and faster than gb and with jb you have many more apps supported

main reason is hang and freez alot GB IS MUCH BETTER, and lighter i think , even sky call are hang some time gtalk can hang to cano oprn line anr other program . like start playing game can call come cannot pick up maybe other GT-I8160/p are good with JB but not with my GT-I8160L
.
,i like also jb but i want little more smother ,not with freez and hang .
thanks , please advice ,

I agree, JB do not perform well at all on th GT-I8160L I got, it can be used if turn of all animation and stuff like that but my biggest loss is that I can not run the 3 apps simultanously I need to use (Skype, Viber, CSip), the phone then is so slow I hardly can use it as a phone, I can never answer because the phone app starts so slow that the other part already hung up when I finally slide for answer :-/
I have EXACTLY the same problem downgrading to GB (I8160DXLF2_I8160OLBLF2_THL.zip), I have the official GB firmware and it installs nicely using Odin 3.07 but it get stuck in the bootscreen. If I then put JB (THL-I8160LDCME1, official thai) on it, no problem and it starts.
What todo? Please advice, anyone?
i m also
im about to upgrade my I860L. to that I860DOME1 .is it so slow that the phone is unusable. ithink flashing cm 10.1 or 10.2 will be faster

Need help with ROM

Hello everyone,
My wife has Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and after JB 4.1.2 update the phone is very slow. It lags like hell so asking help from you guys. She does not need any fancy ROM loaded with ton of customization options, just simple, fast rom. Doesn't matter if it is JB or GB.
GPS and 3G/WIFI should work well, because shes using it for navigation sometimes The BEST would be tweaked and fast 4.1.2 JB stock rom if this is possible Or nevermind, every peace faster than this would be great.
Please suggest me something. What rom should i choose? Phone is:
Mode: GT-I8160
Android version: 4,1,2
Baseband: I8160XXMF1
Kernel: 3,0,31-1106830 #2
Build number: JZO54K.I8160XXMF1
THANK YOU!!

For the lagg and force closing, go to applications > active processes and see how much ram it reads. If that says 482, then u need to apply this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389395 trick. chances are all will be smooth after that.
If u fancy the extra's, you should go with Kyrillosv8.
or you can flash MG2 via odin, I find that a tad more stable than MF1 (again apply the patch linked to above if u end up with 482 MB RAM then.)
Lastly, flashing D-kernel will speed things up and increase stability as well.

Okey now, i did the first thing, flashed V1 624 memory file via ODIN, everything went great, phone seems a bit faster. Now i am trying to flash D-kernel via stock recovery, but it says this: E:signature verification failed. Phone is not rooted. What can i do? Thanks.
And another question, i saw supercharger is made for this phone. It is worth flashing it for SPEED?

First flash this from the stock recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141395
then flash D-kernel from that CWM recovery.
Thank you for this helpful thread. I was looking exactly for the same fix to my phone. I could apply both the RAM fix and the Kyrillos mod successfully but unfortunately I ran into a bootloop after I have applied the D-Kernel patch. Since I am not experienced, I am wondering if:
a) I did something wrong
b) Kyrillos already patched the D-Kernel
c) if my D-Kernel patch was not compatible (buggy file or not compatible with Kyrillos)
Now I have flashed back XMF1 since I did not know how to fix my bootloop. How can I successfully apply D-Kernel to achieve the desired performance?
Regards,
Quentin

@Hummer951 solved this issue with the right patch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46456493&postcount=2
However, the performance is still not really convincing. Would you recommend to apply further tweaks like liquid speed or PurePerformances™X?

[Q] How to update from 4.1.2 custom rom to 4.2.2 or higher

Hi Everyone,
I do know how to flash a new rom however I had issues flashing from stock 4.1.2 to custom 4.2.2 before (device wouldn't pass the boot screen). So do I have to be on a specific 4.1.2 rom to upgrade or I need to upgrade to a stock 4.2.2 first and then upgrade to a custom one?
Please recommend a fast 4.2.2 custom rom. I would like to keep dual sim feature if possible although I know most roms only support single sim.
My current rom info:
4.1.2
Baseband: I9082XXAMC4
Thanks in advance.

simple one line if want dual sim,(stock based roms only)..u can install stock rom 4.2.2....or balliboxers GENNXT rom based on latest firmware...
NOTE: RAM USAGE OF STOCK AND STOCK BASED ROMS IS HIGH....SO LESSER MULTITASKS HANDLES!
if u can compromise with dual sim ..then u can install slimbean roms...(as u mentioned u want lightest and fastest)... but as they are small and fast, they dont have many extra feature lik halo..bt are lightweight..less ram usage...
bt i wonder why u want 4.2.2 rom when u can installl latest kitkat 4.4.2 (cm11,slimkat rom, carbon rom)..
they all are kitkat roms..........
with cm being a base rom for every rom and a light good rom...so is slimkat...and carbon with good future updates including halo features....
if u still wanna stick to 4.2.2 ....then u got slimbean rom...cm rom....(both dont have halo feature),.bt light...or u cn have PAC,resurrection remix rom(for halo multitasking)...
(gaming is better on kitkat roms)
its all ur choice....
if u want any qsns u can ..
hope i helped ..

First of all, thanks for your awesome reply
Basically I'm on stock rom without useless Samsung apps. Instructions for Pac/resurrection says I need to be on stock rom in order to upgrade to 4.2.2. So am I ok to flash their rom or first install a stock rom?
You mentioned kitkat roms are better and I agree, however based on instructions I need to be on 4.2.2 first before upgrading
Which recovery is the best for making nandroid backups? clockworkmod seems to have issues occasionally creating bad backups.
Kitkat roms seems to have app2sd enabled by default, right? and no issues with Xposed framework modules?

xposed is working fine on dalvik runtime(as google introduced new runtime with 4.4 named ART ,WHICH CONSUMES LESS RAM, BUT IS UNSTABLE)...
when they say that u need to be on stock ROM 4.1.2 , they actually mean the 4.1.2 bootloader..so its okat if u are on GENNXT ROM...stock..abit modified stock 4.1.2...(they specifically mean that if u want 4.2.2 rom, be on 4.1.2 bootloader...and if u want kitkat rom..then be on 4.2.2 rom(any stock based 4.2.2 rom like gennxt or slight modifyd 4.2.2 will do , as all they need is 4.2.2 bootloader for kk roms to work)...if u want kitkat rom.....be on stock based rom..which are touchwiz based roms of 4.2.2)....
so flash 4.2.2 rom by odin..and den install kitkat...if u face any problem ....just pm me ...and ya..
always do wipe cache, dalvikcache and data(if told) , whenever u flash anything(before and after flashing)... u can ask any qsna u wanna ask..hope i helped.

one question from my side as well.
I am on stock rooted 4.1.2 rom and I want to upgrade to stock 4.2.2 rom. what would be the best method?
can I install 4.2.2 latest version by flashing via odin directly or do I need to unroot first?
or it will be automatically unrooted when I install 4.2.2(stock) latest over my 4.1.2(stock) by odin?
I hope you got my question.

I finally got the chance to upgrade to stock 4.2.2 via odin and gaining root again. However I was unable to install kitkat. Even though I wiped cache and did factory reset, boot didn't pass the samsung logo. I still have 2 sim support, is it worthed to install kitkat? According to your previous instructions, I needed to be on 4.2.2 base in order to upgrade to kitkat. What would you suggest in my case
Thanks

I am a heavy gamer and performancive device addict..
Kitkat dont have any fancy samsung stuffs bro..bt its all system files are of kitkat so the gaming performance is alot increased.. All game bugs are almost fix which were in 4.2.2......there is work around for every thing..
I mean..think about it..
I never use smart stay...
I nor did use much of live wallpapers as they were battery consuming..the lock screen was fancy but still lets face truth that its just meant for security/unlocking screen ...u will have to compromise with single sim and non fancy apps ..
But it does worth a try..i mean why not ... Give it a shot and i am sure u will find something unique about it...
It got its own features..so ya...its ur wish..there are also downsides of it .....u can check respective threads and know more..

Ok bro, I installed selinux cmw recovery... downloaded CM11... I noticed CM is about 200mb comparing to 1 GB stock 4.2.2. Does that mean I will get more free space on internal sdcard? (out of 4GB I mean)...as others suggested, I need to do full wipe/reset factory and manually format system? and if update wasnt successful I can go back to stock via Odin right?

Procedure to install custom rom to 8160 L

Personal downloaded this rom CyanogenMod 11.0 for the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 (GT-I8160L )
Brought to you by TeamCanjica, now my doubt is for me to install the ace 2 L I8160 which procedure? need to do anything else, because my ace 2 is the Brazil and uses the 8160 L rom, I'm afraid to do it anyway and give problems and are unable to recover the device over.

Hi I am not sure about the ROM you speak of, but I just managed to update my 8160L which was on VIVO running JB. I used Mclaw and the procedure required you to take the TEE folder from your current JB rom and insert it into the new rom before you flash it. I also had to edit the updater script and it was pretty straight forward from there.

[Q] OTA update and CM Rom

Hi, I know there are many forums regarding this issue.. but I am a complete noob. I managed to root my phone once and install stock rom.. since then my count in download mode always shows as 2 and even though it says official in download mode.. inside android it still shows modified and i cannot do OTA.. i have 4.3 stock firmware Hong Kong on N7105 installed using Odin 3.04.
I have 2 questions. is there a complete noob friendly guide on how to do a full reset? meaning everything back the way it was so then I can do OTA again?!
second question.. whats the most stable rom if i cannot do OTA.. i dont like all the samsung bloatware and reading multiple threads i always find problems people are having with different mods. I want one that removes the bloatware and just works stable and super fast. i dont care too much about customizations and mods. is CM mod good for this? I looked into the thread and have no idea how to install it.
sorry for noob questions. any help will be appreciated.
thx

Most stable? It's hard to assess. I had CM 10.2 on my note it's clean of samsung bloatware and it's pretty fast without any problem. I changed from it because i love air gestures on 4.3 ROM. Next I had Dr. ketan's rom V6 but it wasn't bad but someone of apps just got crashes without any reason. Now i've got PheonixRom it's really fast and i don't have any crashes on it. Someone of bloatware you can delete in aroma installer then after flashing you can do it by TitaniumBackup.
Regards
thanks!! do you know if there is any way to remove the bloatware from the official rom? and leave everything else the way it is?
Well if you have root it can be deleted probably by TitaniumBackup
