Try a different music app?
Is it in wrong format?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I'm guessing that the problem started after tinkering?
Might want this moved to Q and A. Maybe someone there has a solution.

Check if you have a file called ".nomedia" in your music folder. (I don't know why you would have this file but it worth verifying). If you have such a file just delete it.
Yeah .nomedia would prevent the files from being indexed. Delete it if you have them.

How do I get my music player to not play my ringtones? I have them in a separate folder yet they still play. Do i just have to rely on playlists?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Try creating an empty text file named .nomedia place it in the folder with your ringtones.

Seems to have worked thank you!

Back when I used to own an HTC Titan, I had to put my ringtones inside of the Windows Folder to make them be recognized as ringtones, and that used to work well for me to prevent windows media player to read them.
Here in android, I'm thinking it might be similar, but I'n a noob in android and I don't know the OS structure very well, so I hope this makes sense to someone and can reply back to us.
Ok sorry about that didn't think it would block them from being seen as ringtones all together. As the post above states mabey putting them in the system ringtone folder might let them be ringtones but not be recognized by media player. To do this you will need to be rooted and then move them to /system/media/audio/ringtones. Just throwing stuff out there i'm still pretty noobish.

Yeah i will try that with root explorer.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yup. Threw them into system/media/notifications
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Nope system wont recognize them in that folder

So MIUIv4.1.2 was just released for our phones.
I have heard that the external mount is wonky, but somehow, people can see their sd card in file explorer. However, there are still many who cannot. The temporary solution is using Directory Bind and bind the target directory to a directory on the internal sd. On my phone, that temporary is not working at all. Anyone experiencing the same issue or have come up with another workaround?
This is only a pet peeve because I enjoy listening to music on my phone. It is not a huge deal.
Thanks!
did you update? this has already been fixed no need for directory bind... only issue now is usb mount the computer will only see internal. The music player should see both internal and external now.

weird... it isn't showing my attachments.. but yes! i am updated and I even wiped the old version, cache, data and all just to make sure it was a clean install.
When I said nevermind... I meant the thumbnail attachments, not my music and pictures. Doh... sorry about the confusion

Well that's the other thing... in file explorer I can click the pulldown and see "two" SD card directories; one that is my internal and one the is my external. Yet, for some reason the music app and gallery will not scan it.

You put .nomedia files anywhere to get rid of the media scanner bug? Because that sounds like the issue.

Can someone point me to an MP3 downloaded that can save files to the extsdcard? I have searched and all of the top apps only save to sdcard.

I can't get any music player to recognize and use music from the music folder of my Micro SD card. It just shows a few songs that are on my internal SD. Astro File Manager won't even pay them for me. Is there anything I can do to get my music to show up? If it helps, I'm on the M1 build.

It worked for the most part. I had to download a song from the Web on my phone, then re copy the songs from my laptop to the SD card. But it all ended up working that way. Thanks for the help!

Since I started storing music in an external as the stock music app is not working correctly. When I open library in folder view the songs names are duplicates. Only one of the song names is actually music and during playback the player will stop every time it reaches a name without music.

Music Player>app info>force stop>clear data.
If that does not work, then...
Settings>storage>unmount ... >remount>reboot
There must be a better solution. I had this problem and when I put the card into my laptop, the laptop showed the duplicates as well!
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
I tried the tips but ended up with the duplication increasing from 3 to 4. By the way my music app doesn't have the app info-force stop-clear data menu. I had to access it through applications menu.

Formet SD card and retransfer music. Or first try to unmount and mount sd card

No it didn't work. After a second reboot all the duplicates were back. I will format sd and see what happens.
