Help! I have been trying to fix my phone using Flash tool. I searched threads hoping they have an answer to same problem as I have. But all the posts are different, or it's 2 or 3 years old..
First my phone's touch screen is unresponsive, but I managed to navigate around using the hardkeys..
Now, the phone wouldnt boot up, it's stuck in the Sony Ericsson logo. but whenever I plug it in the PC or charger it would boot all the way..
Why is this happening? I rooted my phone but didnt unlocked the bootloader, and I bought it in the UK.
I am trying to flash an original firmware that I got somewhere, because the links provided on some threads here wont allow me to download it, says not available on my geographic location or something.. (I am in Florida, and yes, I have tried using proxy or hotspotshield)
Here is my problem:

anybody help me with this or does anybody have better suggestion?
You can try these, this is two sites. One is a list of FTF files needed to flash in flashtool. First was made by fma965, I followed with my collection to preserve these files as much as possible:
fma965 (if these work you should totally thank him)
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=3637
My backup collection of FTF Files:
http://d-h.st/users/jgregoryj1/?fld_id=19757#files
Let me know if these work, if not I can try another method.
The version I need is 4.0.2.A.0.42 UK version and that wasn't included in your's or his so I downloaded the R800i_2.3.3_UK_Generic.tft and tried.
but I got the same outcome

I also did search about this and found a post where someone suggested to update the flashtool's driver.
I followed the instructions but I always get INSTALL FAILED..
Hmmm.... let me do some thinking and see what I can come up with... also you wouldnt happen to have the firmware saved would you? As neither myself nor fma965 have it?
Probably not, trying to collect and save as many firmwares as possible...
No sorry :/ I have no knowledge of doing that.. but i've read somewhere that you can use 2.3.3 UK Generic as substitute for android 2.3.4 firmware 4.0.0.A.42 UK. they say that's good as same, is that right?
UK is 2.3.3. Most other official roms are 2.3.4. Most newer custom roms take updates from other 2011 xperia phone and combine with our device to make unofficial 2.3.7 custom roms.

And the touchscreen is still unresponsive.

EDIT again:
I got flashtool to work. I have always run the Flashtool64 and always got the same error.
After everything, I tried to run the other Flashtool and it WORKED! MY DEVICE IS BOOTING ALL BY ITSELF NOW.

I have a locked bootloader. I flashed .42, rooted it, but OTA still failed.
If you keep attempting the ota then it will eventually complete, apparently.

Yes it did.
hi mate, if you are on 0.62, then just flash an old kernel using flashtool and then you would be able to root 0.62 as well
or have a look at this

I am having a very hard time trying to get root access to my Xperia Play.
Xperia Play R800i
Android 2.3.4
4.0.2.A.0.69
Bootloader unlocked
From what I could gather from this forum, I need to downgrade to 0.42 so I can use zergRush exploit by Doomlord, or Super One Click.
See, I have no interest in using custom ROMs. Actually, I would like to stay exactly with my stock rom, but with the root access to manage and save space in the internal memory of the phone.
But I cant seem to get Flashtools to work.
I have downloaded the Xperia Play (R800i)_4.0.2.A.0.42_TW.ftf file and it seems legit.
I also downloaded a recent version of Flash tools .

I am not in MTP mode. I am positive that it is in MSC.
I correctly plugged my device in flash mode.
I am on Windows 7.
I dont know what I am doing wrong.

It's not that.
I checked the box, following a tutorial.
In my research, I read that the more recent versions of flashtools had problems with some .ftf.
Anyone had those?
Could be it?

hi,
i need help rooting my xperia plat at&t.
the main issue im having is:
- do i need to unlock the bootloader?
when i type the code: *#*#7378423#*#* to see if my bootloader is unlockable, i dont see anytrhing under: Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed
as a matter of fact, there is no rooting status folder at all. hmmmm
then when i put my play into fastboot mode, the light is green, not blue. im holding down the back button. thats the correct one right?
i just want to flash a rom, thats all.
also, flash tool for my mac is not working correctly, it says:

First of all the entry in the Service menu is for the bootloader and has nothing to do with rooting your Phone. The bootloader is comparable to the bios in a pc. What you want, is to gain access to the root fodler of your device which is read-only by default.
Holding back puts the device in flashmode not fastboot-mode (which you dont want). Green=flash Blue=fastboot
Easiest way to root is to use flashtool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351299

Hi folks,
I'm trying to flash the latest firmware using flashtool, but it doesn't get any further than "Reading device information".
I've disabled driver signing checking and installed the flashtool, fastboot, z1 compact and common drivers for Rhine board devices. (I couldn't find anything else relevant)
I ran check drivers in flashtool and that seems ok. I'm using flashtool 0.9.16.1

Anyone have an idea how to coerce this to work?
Are you on factory firmware now? If so try the Sony PC companion software.

I'm on official Sony firmware. I'll give Sony PC companion a go now.
I thought I was not supposed to use it anymore since the phone's been rooted, at least none of the guides mention using the Sony tool.
But heck, if flashtool doesn't work I don't see what option I have really.
What I was trying to flash with flashtool was the firmware that Sony PC companion downloaded, then I decrypted it and created an ftf file from it.
For what it's worth - flashing with Sony PC Companion works fine, no need for flashtool.
Easy Root Toolkit v7 has restored root, and lockeddualrecovery beta installer 128 works fine.
129 reboots into a stuck Sony logo, so there's obviously an issue there, it seems that PhilZ recovery in that zip is buggy.
Now I'm back to normal. Still have no idea how to make flashtool work, and I would like to find out for when the next release is out.
Any help would be appreciated!
I had the same problem that you did. When you install the flashtool drivers make sure you install the flashmode, adb and z1 compact drivers. If your on windows 8 there's a process you need to do before you install the unsigned drivers.
In the flashtool FTF folder ensure your FTF is in there and if there are any other folders in there delete them as they are from the failed flash and flash tool will automatically refer to that folder every time you try and use flashtool.
Turn off your phone.
Run flashtool. I used the normal one not the x64 one.
Click Lightning icon.
Select firmware.
Flash and follow instructions.
I also forgot, make sure your computer doesnt go to sleep or turn its screen off while flashing as it will most likely fail again.
Sent from my D5503 using XDA Free mobile app
That's exactly what I've done, but it's not working. I'm on Server 2012, but for all intents and purposes it's same as Windows 8.
I went to disable driver signature checking and installed the following drivers from the pack:
flashtool
fastboot
z1 compact
common drivers for Rhine board devices
Are there any other drivers required for this?
Adb works fine, I believe those drivers came with Sony PC companion and I can use Easy Root Toolkit and stuff like that.
Also, assuming I can't get this to work - is it possible to get a flashable zip file from the ftf file - one that I could flash using PhilZ recovery?
The above mentioned advice does not work...stuck at reading information still...

Any luck with this? I'm having the same issue with my E2306. I have TWRP but i formated System, Cache, Data, Internal and ART partitions. I installed a beta 7.1.1 ROM which is missing features like Camera and Audio. Trying to restore Pexo ROM but the phone wont stay in fastboot mode nor is it recognized by fastboot devices.
I have an Xperia play (R800i) running AuroraPlay v2.0.0 and most likely some version of doomkernel (they were on the phone when I received it) and I'm trying to change to a kernel and rom that suit my needs better, but my phone is erroring out in flasher. I'm new to custom phone software so I was wondering if anyone had an idea on whats going wrong? the flasher error is Loarder.sin finished with errors. Thanks in advanced

I was wondering if its a hard error to fix or maybe I haven't given enough information?

I don't have a R800i. I have the R800x, so I will probably be little help.
What program are you using to try to flash the firmware... Androxyde's Flashtool? Can you provide the output log that gives the exact error message you're getting? This information should help others to help you?

You've probably found this, but if not-- here is a link to a Guide for using Flashtool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054486
-Also ….you may want to post your question in the Flashtool thread for help, as it looks like Androxyde is available to answer questions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
My knowledge of Flashtool is limited, but some basic ideas I would recommend include:
-Make sure that you are flashing the correct FTF for your device ( you can get Stock FTF firmware from here:
( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184897 ). Go to post #2 under "OFFICIAL FIRMWARE (FTF'S)."
-Verify that you don't have a corrupted download of the FTF by verifying the MD5 (if you have Windows 7 or older—this is a good one to use-- http://winmd5.com/ ).
-Turn off antivirus software/firewalls when using Flashtool
-Run Flashtool as Administrator
-Maybe try a different version of Flashtool. If you're using a newer version, you might want to try an older version and vice-versa
-Try different USB cable and/or different USB port on your computer.
-If all else fails, uninstall Flashtool and all related drivers, reboot your PC, reinstall Flashtool and try again.
-You could also try Sony PC Companion as an alternative if you can't get Flashtool to work.
Good Luck!

Have exhausted all of your suggestions (I couldn't post in the flashertool forum due to age of account) and am still having the same error. I was wonder if there is another flasher program that isn't used anymore I can try or a way to just change the kernel so I can get into Recovery mode?

You can probably find an older version of Flashtool using Google search... just be careful to try to get it from a reputable source like an XDA member and verify the MD5/use your virus scanner to check it as well when downloading.
You can also try using fastboot commands to wipe and flash another kernel. Check out this tutorial on fastboot from XDA Recognized Contributor demkantor:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277112.
You said you tried everything suggested above.. so I'm assuming that you also tried Sony PC Companion as well which is found here: http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/pc-companion/.

I did try the pc companion (if by that you mean I asked it to "repair" my OS back to stock (didn't work) ) no software available.
As far as going through fastboot and running android studio I kinda got lost in what it was telling me. (maybe im a dummy ) Unless someone has any other advice I think I'm just gonna buy a new one and start from scratch. I feel it would be easier to start from stock kernel then dealing with whatever random one is installed now, it seems to have no recovery at all.
Thanks much for the advice through this ordeal mattnmag I'm sure it was a little frustrating dealing with someone brand new to phones.
