Do i have to put APN settings after flashing a rom?
I have a rooted unlocked still stocked Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 from T-Mobile i just bought yesterday and i want to flash Revolt or Wicked.
I'm asking because when i flashed my old Galaxy S2 awhile back with CyanogenMod 10.1 nightly i had too and even after that i couldn't send pics though messaging i think because the APN was set alittle wrong.
So i'm hoping you guys can help me TY in advanced. :highfive:

TMO ROMs should have the APNs already set. If you plan on using any other carrier's ROMs, download an app called "APN backup & restore", open it, disable the ICS check, convert to a system app in TiBu, then backup your APN settings. On the new ROM, do the same thing, except restore the settings instead of backing them up.

Could I just copy on paper what the apn settings are the reenter them after flashing?
the apn backup and restore app sounds alittle difficult to understand and do never used it before.

It isn't too confusing once you do it once... but honestly, either way you go, whether it's pen and paper/manual reenter or the app it really takes about the same amount of time. I guess that app would be most useful if you have more than 2 or 3 APNs you need.

Rebooting doesn't hurt, but I don't believe it's required for the settings to take effect.
always have your apn settings handy, I have my att one (I only use one) memorized I can add, it 2 sec, if you are going to flash custom roms, it is a good idea to have them right where you can get to it.
Ax's opinion.
good luck.

Anyone ever checked the problem with APN's FC'ing on legend based roms, probably not is what i think.
It's not that hard to find the problem, it's rather easy.
As suggested on every Legend based ROM you should download APN backup and restore and wipe ALL APN's
Why do i type ALL in capital, because that APN list in this rom is huge as in a few 100 entry's. No wonder APN settings FC's!!
What i did, because i'm rather lazy, is make a backup, wipe APN's, open xml on PC, delete all items you don't need (and that are many of them), save it and restore it on your Legend rom
Peace of cake.
Just use that app to get rid of your APN like you said.
Then going into the APN menu and press restore defaults works fine for me.

I toyed with this when developing my ROM but it seems that if you exit the APN list and open again later it will force close again, there are simply too many APNs in the list, or some are incorrectly formatted.
I have been playing with some calls to the sqlite3 binary on the relevent database but everything is fine until the database is restored, then same problem again.

The list is too big; that's it.
I've trimmed it and included it in Villain BETA3... it's fixed the issue.

Thanks, I think the problem with me is although the information for Orange appeared correct it just never worked, when manually entering it my internet now works. (along with the problems I had with Orange as well)
Has anyone been able to edit their APN settings successfully on ICS? I used the widget and edited the default Sprint APN and changed it to what my APN backup xml had for Boost Mobile but my MMS isn't working. :/ Tried rebooting my phone and sending another and it says it fails to send and pops up a message saying "Service not activated" or something to that effect. Regular SMS and phone calls work. Help??
Also noticed my voicemail isn't working either. I guess I need to go back to GB ROM, lol.
ICS blocked the ability for 3rd party apps to edit APN so in order to do it you have to manually edit them in the ROM zip prior to flashing at least that's the only way I've been able to figure out so far since there's no epst for ics yet

Can you ecxplain how???
You will have to decompile an apk nod it and recompile it and replace it in the rom zip ill have to look at the exact Apks in a lil bit Im on sprint so I haven't had tto do it another option is to use gosmspro it will allow u to change apn without changing it in the rom so it bypasses the stock settings which is alot easier for ppl who aren't familiar with reading and editing code

I tried the gosmspro but it has some different firm of settings. All I Ned to do Ia add a 10 digit MdN number and Google.com...
But in the gosmspro app there are very different setting options.
I had backed up my apn settings from the apn backup and restore setting all I want to know is if I can use the generated XML file to get the
einga in the from file itself and if yes then how can one go forward doing that???
I found on the market "apn settings shortcut" links you right to the systems apn menu its not a 3rd party app or a widget so try that and let me know if it works please

But the MIUI Beta v4 rom seems promising and I will be updating soon. Will let you know how things work out.

maybe thats something that you should post in the ROM's thread or search
He has less than 10 posts...
Need more info Op. When did it start? Flash any mods or themes? Make any changes? Install any apps recently?
And I do recommend searching the thread, even if you can't post there. Could be a known issue that's been solved already.

Previous rom Universe s4. The mane thing I was trying to do was to Get the Mod DriveLink up and running.
I switched back to synergy because I couldn't get it to work on the s4 rom. I Had Drivelink working on Synergy
but Flashed to s4 because of caller ID and voice mail issues. now tmserver not working and drive link not working
on synergy rom along with caller Id & voice mail.
Ok, synergy if I'm not mistaken is kind of a FrankenDroid build. It has parts taken from the S3, Note2, and S4 I think. This is likely the cause. Your data wouldn't work with some of the apps on the other rom causing confilcts and bugs. Then when you flashed back, you now had data that has been manipulated by two different roms built from different sources.
Unfortunately I believe the best way to fix this is a factory reset. Or if you have a nandroid of your system and data from before you flashed you can just restore that.
Otherwise, boot into twrp or cwm and choose factory reset. This will wipe all apps and app data setting you back to a fresh rom install. If you have backups from Titanium backup or similar app, you can try to restore your data that way.
If you factory reset from stock recovery it will also wipe your internal sdcard.
Another option would be to find each offending app in App Management and clear data, then reboot. Youll only lose those apps data, but if you miss any it could cause future problems.
Of course, you are more than welcome to get a second opinion, but I'm pretty sure this is what's going to have to happen.
But again, if you have a nandroid, restore it and all should be good again.

Ok, so Voice Mail is working now and its not adding +1 to the numbers anymore? And you said caller ID invalid mms code is the problem. What exactly is it doing? Is "invalid mms code" an error message or somthing like that? Did you mean "invalid mmi code"?
Try this,
Go into Application Management and find and select T-Mobile Name ID, then press Disable. See if that helps. If not try it after a reboot and let me know.

Application manager /all . T -Molbile Account. Is that what your referring too? I'm not finding the tmo name ID.
Also I need to clarify. I can work around and call vioce mail with #123# code or just call my self. On the phone home screen when I push the voice mail icon it diles +1then I get recording check the number massage CA84o51. When I recieve calls caller ID shows &%7768%&%&^ it differs depending on who calls.everything els works clear calls, apps, blue-tooth, WiFi .
From the dialer press menu, Call Settings, then scroll down and see if you can access Voicemail settings. You may be able to change the number there. Otherwise it may be a csc file providing that info.
For caller Id, it dounds like the same thing a number of people reported in the rom thread. The solution was to disable a caller id app if om remembering right. I don't think the tmobile account app would do it but you can try. Look through the listed apps to see if you find something like that though.

I was flashing a new ROM to my Sprint S3 when I accidentally wiped internal storage (where I had my backup and my CM). Now I have no OS and no recovery files on my phone. I backed everything up on TiBu and moved the files to my laptop just in case, but I cant figure out how to access them from TWRP. Any ideas? Im trying not to panick because I know you guys can fix pretty much anything, but I need my phone for work in the morning. Thanks in advance.

You need to go into advanced settings in TWRP and sideload a rom, or if you have a sdcard reader put it in your pc and load a rom onto it.
Thank you!

Honestly, it all depends on your personal phone. My friends seem to work better with a 3rd party kernel while mine only works well with the stock CM one or Touchwiz one.

I did. I have rebooted and resynced, still nothing. It even has a little check mark next to it, so it thinks its synced. Could it have something to do with my fb security settings?
How do I autosync my google account and contacts?

Guys I found the two files the Dev was referring too to try to fix the data portion of this rom! I'm using sprint note 2 flashed to straight talk, and have tinkered for several hours on getting my data to connect via the rom.... It don't have nothing to do with the kernel or other files referring to getting data to work. I DON'T know how to upload the files the dev said to use to get your data working. All I can tell you is I now have my data up and running, on this rom! The issue lies within the settings via APN'S and the configuration within the hidden menus on our Note 2's. The problem is when you try to use the ##data# menu it won't allow you to do it. So via one of the files the dev mentioned allowed me to check current settings on 4.4.4 rom I was using with working data, and the rom I was using was Alliance Rom. So when I finally figured out that when you install this Rainbow OS the settings are preconfigured to be used with a foreign configuration. Yes the APN will also need to be changed via APN & Backup apk. But the main thing is several settings via the hidden menu are changed when this rom is installed. You really need to know what your doing when your messing with the strings, because you can lose data, and voice and a simple reset or flashing another rom and or Installing a backup via Twerp will not bring back the original configuration. The files the dev mentioned are also paid APK files I don't know if I can upload or link because of the rules on XDA. After getting data working this rom is truly one of the best roms I've ever used on my note 2. I've had no errors or even fc. The strange thing was my mms works via the stock messenger, sending and receiving.
Remember Messing with the network strings can cause your phone too become useless if you don't know how to put your proper settings back. Even flashing the phone using Odin back to factory won't fix the problem. Trust me I know I did it 3 times and it still gave me no data or talk. So always backup your orginal settings using APN backup.
