I played a movie through micro hdmi, and got no audio. I tried playing songs and went through settings but was unable to rectify this. Instead of tv's speaker it played through the phone's (Tried walkman, movies and mx player). Anyone able to replicate this problem? Will post on sony's forum.
And I have connected though hdmi before on ics, and it woked perfectly.
Really annoyed by sony this time :/
Have you tried another cable?

Dude,
If using MX player for video playback through the HDMI, you can choose the audio channel for your sound track.
This has caught me out a few times, normally when watching foreign movies with english dubbing.
Hope it helps
Ya it worked when I connected it to another tv and since is working. But sometimes the video stutters. This has made me paranoid, and now I use my laptop through hdmi
Restore it to factory settings.

I love the phone (got it launch day) puts my Mytouch 3G to shame. I love everything about this phone....... well except for one thing.
I am having a hell of a time with audio playback. 60% of the time i try to play back music on stock music player it tells me that the audio format is not supported on this device. using Winamp wasnt much of a help as it will just cycle through songs and freeze up.
resetting the phone helps sometimes but not everytime.
I also tried removing all the music from my phone and re-copying all the files. still an issue.
I've also noticed it acts up a lot more via bluetooth (i have a pair of rocketdog behind the ear headphones)
I'm stumped...
Any ideas? Anyone else getting this issue?
codec, song encoding comes to mind
also try with different amount of songs
i know on the old SGS if you had more than few hundreds of mp3 or mix format songs in it, it can drive it crazy
so try a couple hundreds, then work your way up, until you find the amount of files it can read before it becomes too much.
all this can be fixed once rooted, and installing better media players
winamp for android sucks by the way
you should try the ICE cream leaked media player from stock android, it's better
Curious why not just stream the music from ur pc?? google music is practically flawless
Seen a user in another thread had to format their card in this phone, then add music. Try that.

I tried this last night. didn't help much. I'm 99.98% sure it has something to do with my bluetooth headphones. Going to buy a new pair and see if it makes a difference...

If you get the sony ericsson mw600, you'll be amazed at their features. I love them and use them all the time and the battery lasts longer than the specs say. I can get 14hrs out of them.
Just picked up a new set of headphones.... does the exact same thing.... odd.... wondering if its just my phone or if this is a glitch...haven't seen anyone else report this.
Pandora and google music work great with my motorola s10-hd headset...

I'll be getting my phone tues. I use sony dr-bt22 bluetooth headphones.... will report back.
I have this problem when steaming music over A2DP through stock Music app or Google Music. All 320kbps fixed rate MP3s. I've tried via my integrated car audio, computer, headphones... all same result when playing local media. Streaming via Rdio works completely fine. Playing local media without A2DP also works fine... Logcat reports some kind of permission related problem...
Weird, I play FLAC or 320s all day long on this thing and no "Format Unsupported" has come up on regular headset/aux cable or BT. I have however, had a problem with the music stopping when I get a notification..the time continues to move but no sound.
Just an update, my stereo BT headphones work fine
I just got my samsung hd tv adapter. Have some question for those who have it too
1) my screen top and bottom is a bit cut off, how to solve?
2) When i open mkv file using hardware decoder, I can see the subtitles on my phone but can't see the subtitles on tv, but when i change to software decoder i can see both subtitles on tv and phone. How to make subtitles visible on tv using hardware decoder?
Same problem. For me never solved problem..

are U using the stock player from samsung??
'cause what you're saying only happens when I use other players, like Mx...
I have problem with stock player, my stock player cant display the subtitles of mkv file so I used mx video player with soft decoding. This causes some lag once in a while (not really noticeable) when playing 720p h264 movie.
But it's not an issue. After trying the mhl adapter for another day, I have two more bigger issue :
1) The connection keep get cutting of, keep on and off every few minutes. I thought it's loose cable connection so I place the phone on the table without touching it but the connection still go off and on for about 2 secs every now and then. Both the samsung adapter and hdmi cable is newly brought so it shouldn't be cable issue.
2) My phone get really hot when playing movie and I have to pause it incase of overheating. The temperature go as high as 56 degree after playing around 1hr of movie.
Any solution for this? For the first problem, just read another thread saying going to airplane mode solve the connection problem, haven't try yet though. But is there any other solution other than that? Using stock rom with siyah kernel.

hm, strange, mine does the subtitle problem with mx player, not with stock!!
about the loose connection, at least with mine, was the usb connection not fine
the overheat maybe a bug with siyah kernel, i think, cause mine gets a lit bit hotter than normal, but nothing to worry about
sorry couldn't help
Hey guys
For you that are using this on your tv, which adapters are you using?
How well does it play 1080p HD mkv files over hdmi to your tv? I'm not sure how the resolution would work for this to a 1080p TV.
You can get a Samsung wired hdmi converter on ebay for about $10. Or the allshare wireless dongle for about $40 or $50. Keep in mind if you root the Allcast dongle will no longer work.

I use a rooted P605 and my Allcast Share Dongle works despite the system status Custom which did not work on my N8000.
I did yet find no wired adapter which works with the P605, either partial, intermittend or no display. And the Samsung store showd no official adapter.

This is the one I had bought previously for my Note 2, which also works on the G Note 14 as well....

Has anyone tried playing 1080p movies via HDMI to the TV? How does it run? I'm wondering if the movies actually get played at 1080p?

I played 1080p game trailers and movie trailers using an HDMI connection. It plays whatever the source is. One thing to note though. Playing videos with any app other than the default video app does not fill the screen all the way. There will be borders on the sides and top/bottom. It's not horrendous but is noticeable. However if you play using the default video player this gets corrected somehow when being output to the tv.

Great! Just wondering, is there any lag at all when playing 1080p movies. I was watching some videos of the Nexus 10 doing it since its probably the most similar device to ours right now and the reviewer mentioned there is a bit of lag since it has to power the video on both screens. Unless there's a way to turn off the tablet and just let it use the TV as the screen.
Also does the default player support mkv? I don't have my note to test it out right now.
Just make sure to buy the 5 -> 11 pin MHL adapter if using a normal MHL adapter. Just like the Note 2, the standard 5 pin MHL adapter won't work.
Also, don't forget it has to be a powered MHL device.
I have to do the same thing for my GN2 on my Pioneer App Radio. Only I use an adapter.

For videos, you won't notice any lag since you're just watching the video. Not to mention, when using the stock video player app it detects that you're playing the video on a larger screen and shuts down the output on your tablet screen so it's only visible on your tv. For games though, you may perceive a little lag since you're actually controlling what happens on the screen.
I haven't tested playing mkv's on the stock video app on the tablet but I can confirm they play on my galaxy note II so they should work. The only thing is that the stock video app doesn't support all audio codecs so if your mkv file contains dts audio you'll probably run into issues as the stock app won't be able to decode.
Apps like Archos video player (along with the free codec pack) should work fine for playing everything.

The tablet screen stays on during hdmi out and if you turn off the screen it stops hdmi output. The reasoning is that when you turn the screen off you are turning off the digitizer, too. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to control the device during playback.

Fair enough. But if I want to have 2 hours of constant playback for a movie without having to pause or anything, is there any app that does turn off the screen while its playing other than the stock app? I don't want the same thing to be playing on 2 screens at once. The stock app was mentioned saying that it automatically does turn off the screen while playing back via HDMI, which is cool. Sadly it doesn't play the audio on some of my MKV files cause of the codec, but MX player does. I'm looking to replace my laptop with this if possible to connect to my TV to play movies, but it should hopefully work just as well as the laptop otherwise it isn't worth it. I wouldn't be connecting this to the TV for anything other than movies anyway.

There are a couple schools of thought. Unfortunately I do not know of any way to turn off the screen during playback. However, there are a couple of apps out there which turn off the backlight during HDMI playback. One of which I believe is called screen off which you can find on the Play Store. The other is called tasker which allows you to create a system trigger event task that will do X when Y happens. Some people have said they're able to have the backlight turn all the way down when HDMI out is detected.

Sorry, it doesn't turn the scrim off but it dims the screen quite a bit to where it's hard to tell it's on and does not actually show the video that's being played. I should've been more clear.

I've been experiencing this for a while now, every now and then when I'd watch movies on my tablet using the stock video player or even others such as MX Player and VLC, a crackling sound comes off that it sounds muzzled and blurry at the same time and the only thing to resolve it is to pause the movie or video then resume It right away then it's gone. The issue is it comes back time to time but rarely happens on YouTube as I recall, now I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue with the speakers, I'm not rooted and haven't modified anything at all, I've had this tablet for 2 months. Anyone else experiencing this issue? I wouldn't want to trade this is for a brand new device but if I really need to I would. Was just thinking if there was a work around for this without rooting the device.

Can you record the sound? Might be the app and the video itself if everything is fine on youtube. For my device I use allstar video player and its all fine. Could be an app issue with the video maybe? I havent tryed those video player apps but stock is fine for me also.
Not sure, thanks for the reply though. I could try recording it. Maybe it's just my speakers, cause I usually use the stock video player for my movies and that's where it happens.

My AFTV2 will not playback video from any source without the playback pausing/stopping for about 1-2 seconds all through the movie. No matter what the source whether streaming from my NAS or streaming from an app, any app. I play the same video back on my AFTV1 and it plays fine. I can't even play 720 video back clean let alone 1080p. I am rooted on 5.0.4 I was thinking of unrooting and going back to 5.0.3 but I would rather not have to do that. Anyone else having issues with video playback on AFTV2? or can anyone suggest what I can try to correct it. I have already tried playing back video using MX Player and VLC. I thought VLC might work because its the one from Amazon Play Store but the result is the same. It's really driving me crazy because it happens all the time. The reason I got the AFTV2 was because I thought I would get cleaner playback of video based on the new hardware, but my AFTV1 which is also rooted blows it out of the water. The Fire TV 2 is connected to a powerline adapter, but I tested it connected directly to my router and the result was the same. Even on the powerline adapter my speed test is about 19-24 mbps which should be fast enough to playback video smoothly. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks for the reply. Yes I use Kodi as well, and you're right you have to have a good stream first. But even when I stream movies from my NAS in Kodi, or select a stream from an addon that's say MQ it still stutters throughout the movie. When I play the same movie, same stream, from my AFTV1 it plays perfectly fine. I know I have a fast enough internet connection. It just seems strange to me that the AFTV2 with the more powerful hardware can't come close to the AFTV1 when it comes to video playback. Even Netflix stutters.
