Okay, I know there are apps that let you hotspot without a plan but a while back, and I kick my self for this, I came across a zip file that bypassed the Verizon check when you turned on tethering but I never saved it. Since then I have flashed a few Roms and somehow I deleted the zip in my downloads folder and now I can't find the zip anywhere online. Again, I know there are apps and threads talking about this app and that app for tethering but what I am looking for is the zip to flash in recovery. It worked for both CDMA and GSM Gnexs. Somebody please help, need that zip again. Thanks for the time and feed back.

What rom are you running? I think pretty much all of them have the carrier check bypass built in.

There is no bypass, because AOSP doesn't have the limitation. The tethering limitation is imposed on software by carriers, not by Google. Makes sense?
Im running stock root. Kinda like it that way. Plain and simple
Thanks to DR3W5K1 over at rootzwiki. This is the zip I was looking for.

Hey all,
I recently rooted and put a ROM on my phone and now I'm realizing that I wish I still had the stock ringtones and notification sounds. Is there any chance that any of you thought ahead and backed those up? I'm really used to some of them and I'd love to get them back.
I know, bizarre question, right? But if anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

I know this is a "noob search" trap.
But would you kindly explain what tools can be used to extract from a rom, winrar?
Also, kindly link to a rom.
If we can get those into this thread then we'll help the next guy too.
Thanks.
Also, I can't seem to find a stock rom?
Check the "Slide ROM Bible" stickied in the Development section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6846969&postcount=1
There you'll find just about everything ROM related for the Slide. Look for ROMs released by CR. They're pretty much the stock, T-Mobile ROM with root.

Most files for Android phones are zip files (even if they're named *.apk). They can be explored with any unzip utility.
Thanks. I checked it and didn't find what I was looking for. This is gonna seem ridiculous but all I want is the Modem ringtone that sounds like an old Hayes-Compatible dial up modem logging into a BBS.
It's not in the audio folders even though I know it was on the stock ROM. Any idea where I might get it?

Do you remember what it was called on stock?
Yeah, it was called Modem. Or something to that effect but the word "modem" was definitely in there.
Weird that that one ring would be missing in the ROM I tried to download and extract.
Here's a basic stock rom in case you need it sometime
the only modifications made are the su and flash_image binaries are included and ro.secure has been turned to 0 so you can adb remount.
How to flash download the rom from here
Place rom on sdcard
wipe data and all else
then flash rom
reboot and do what you need to do
Cool, you never know when you might need this.
Thank you! Appreciated.

How is this comparable to the rom listed here?
bit ly backslash fBEJnU
I want to have a known working recovery before I make any more changes to my phone. I am not exactly a newbie to this stuff (I have a Pandigital Novel that has been rooted and hacked into a nice tablet) but this is taking things to a whole new level for me and I need my phone. So I'm a bit nervous.
Of course I really wish I'd asked around some before I got to work on removing some of the stuff on it already (mostly known junkware from Virgin Mobile and stupid stuff like weblinks pretending to be native apps) after rooting it with superoneclick and installing root explorer. I need to know if your rom or the one I linked to will be able to allow me to roll back to a default installation that I can revert to if there are any issues down the road. Can you help me?
I apologize if this isn't the right place for this question. Thank you for the many mods I have seen you do already. I look forward to trying them once I have a fallback plan.

I'm not actually sure what your talking about but I've posted this on three different sites so far. I do that for the guys that don't go to other forums. There probably isn't any difference in the roms.

Yours is not exactly stock since you added su and flash_image binaries--or does that really not matter?
Thanks for the reply.

I'm gonna guess and say that his doesn't have the binaries in it. I don't know. Honestly the only way to know for sure that it's stock rom is to get someone that hasn't rooted yet flash the recovery and get a backup of system. I've been waiting for someone like that to come along but ... It hasn't happened yet.
I won't tell you which forums to watch but I'm partial to xda cuz I been on here since my first android phone and it doesn't have those flash ads that pop up cover your entire screen until you click the x.

Forgive my ignorance, but isn't rooting actually a requirement of obtaining the backup? Or did I misread the instructions somewhere? It'd be nice if someone at Virgin Mobile were to leak the complete rom somewhere so people had a fall back option besides trying to return the phone as bricked. (If that's even possible?)

Sounds like a good reason to pick a forum. Not sure if I'm a member of any places that do that since I run with adblock and noscript enabled most of the time.
Any chance you could link me to written instructions on how to flash the rom you have here? I know you have video tutorials but those are harder to follow for me because I am hard of hearing. Music I can do because it is "beautiful noise" and I can usually find some lyrics to get the words of. Your video HOWTOs are not good for me because I have to strain to hear what is being said.
Thanks again for your time and patience in replying to me.

Thanks. Dude above me, there is a rom flashing tutorial at prepaidandroids.net. We will help you out there. Its a site that specializes in on the Optimus v itself.

Thanks for posting this. It just came in handy when I was changing my virgin phone number. Part of the process is dialing ##841446# to bring up the activation menu, but the ## prefix on CM7 does not work, apparently only a stock ROM can do that.
Any way to put it on a phone friendly site? No matter what browser I use on my phone it will not download from google docs.

THANKS, this worked perfectly.
It's pretty much as described, a stock Opt V rom, with Super User already set up and installed.
Titanium worked on it no problem as well.
thanks a ton man! i needed to flash back to stock to get my 3G working again. if you flash a custom rom while youre between payments, you know, during down time, you may need to flash back to stock and run the activation app next time you put service on your phone.
worked like a charm. i thought my 3G was broken. im doing a happy dance now!

Hello.
First of all, I am new here. I have done a fair amount of reading over the last few days, and I love the site. I finally ditched the "slackberry" in favor of an att GNII. With the help of an xda post, I managed to root it and install TB. Silly me decided to remove to Tethering Provision file reading (incorrectly) that doing so would allow me to enable wi-fi hotspot....
well... it doesnt. So now tethering is pretty much broke all together. Any advice?

Unfortunately, all I know for sure is that Titanium Backup called it ThetherProvision. I was under the impression i had to remove it to enable wifi hotspot on my rooted phone
I was able to install foxfi and now I can tether. It would be nice if I could use the stock tether option. I guess ill wait to see if someone figures that out. Should i be concerned that I blew away this ThetherProvision?
Just a quick note. I do not pay for a tethering option on my subscription. I assume that was understood. But, like i said, I am new here.
Well maybe some one could post a copy of theres, I would but it seems that telus doesnt have that file on my phone, on another note everytime you are going to delete something, back it up first
When it comes to android modding the best thing you can do is back everything up

If you removed that tethering provision apk and tethering works I would leave it removed in case it's part of AT&T detection of you using tethering without their additional fee.

I don't think you will use the stock teather if you are not on a plan anyway.
For me that would mean I lose my Unlimited data (aka trottle) and pay an additional $15/mo.

Hi, I really Jacked-up my G2 trying to follow the "Permanent Sim Unlock" thread. I thought it would be useful because I have a Sprint Sim in my phone and it is locked but when I tried it my Data connection is almost nonexistant. I am hoping someone can send me or upload the original files that were either over-written or deleted by the attempt such as the " Property, .xml. and the telephony.db " files.
Go ahead an insult me all you want...LOL... but I did a backup first but it did not undo the damage.....Someone please help me if you can. Thanks!
Just curious why you thought a sim unlock would be useful if you are on Sprints network? There would be no need to unlock sim if you are staying on their service, they use the sim to authenticate your LTE (data), and cdma (radio) to make calls. Those of us that dont want to use sprint service need the sim unlocked! I would go back to stock since you are on their service, follow the tutorial here, http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-restore-lg-g2-to-stock-firmware/
If you want to root after that use IORoot 25 found here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618232
Then you can use apps with SU permissions but if you are going to stay on sprints network, there is no need for you to unlock the sim slot! Best of Luck!

Yes....I realized my misunderstanding after I did it. I also know that the best option for me is to go back to stock but I can't download a file that large (2.1 gig firmware) right now so I was looking for an alternative. I did the IORoot the first time and it did well so it is still rooted. I was just hoping someone could provide the original firmware files that were changed by using the method on the "Permanent Sim Unlock" thread. It shouldn't be that large of a file if someone could zip the 3 main files for me and I can undo the ".bak" of the app files. If no one wants to upload it I can give my email address and they can send it that way. So if someone is reading this that can take a few minutes out of their schedule to help me out I would appreciate it.
oh ok, I dont have access to my computer right now or I would pull you the 2 files for you from my stock G2. I am pretty sure they are on the site already in the posts, try searching for them. Howdy, I'm currently playing with bigsupersquid's unofficial cyanogenmod 13.1 rom for the Virgin Mobile variant of this phone. Everything on it works great except for the wifi which seems not to activate at all - also preventing me from using my tethering. Can anyone provide me the right directions or place to start for this? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

yer lucky, I don't often browse the regular forum, just the threads I've already posted in.
however, I obviously need to add this link to the OP for cm13 (and maybe cm12 as well.)
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-desire-816-virgin-mobile/news/
straight from the horse's mouth (htc,) that link.
getting it installed without M$ windows is challenging but can be done, requires some searching. with window$ it's relatively painless after downloading the 2+GB file and installing drivers and such.
I know some people are picky about questions in dev threads but I've always welcomed discussion there, so feel free to ask anything else in the ROM threads.

Here, for everyone having firmware issues on chl, I spent all day uploading the zip RUU.
Make sure your phone is charged first. Very bad juju for it to die during firmware flashes.
I'm not sure if it needs stock recovery installed to use it or not. May not install without it and that'd be a hassle. Follow the instructions linked in my cm13 first post for installing stock recovery if you're wanting to play it safe.
Definitely
fastboot oem lock
before putting the 0P9CIMG.zip on external SD and rebooting into HBOOT. Or it won't flash.
Then remove the sd card after it is finally done. It'll take a few reboots to finish.
