Yes, I know Microsoft did changed the root certificate that the binaries need to be chained to, but while researching around the internet I managed to get the ASIX drivers installed on my Surface RT running Windows 8.1. Yet I am having a Code 52 error which says
"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source."
The USB Ethernet is also not working. I have tried connecting it to my router, but I am not getting any internet from it. Hope anyone can help to get this sorted out! Thanks!
It's possible to install signed drivers, but they won't work (the kernel won't load them) unless the signature is trusted by the OS. That's probably the problem.

So theres no way to get the drivers to be trusted by the OS?
On RT8.1? Not currently, unless they're signed with a key whose certificate chains to the new root certificate for the OS.

Until there's a new jailbreak, and perhaps even after that, this driver isn't going to work.

Q: Are the SDK certs only required for installation of drivers, or do they have to remain on my device for the drivers to continue to function after installation?
I'd like to use a particular enhancement (Rhodium Keyboard Controller), that includes a driver replacement. As with a lot of stuff here, it is signed with SDK certificates. I don't mind installing the SDK certs once to get it installed, but I'd rather not leave them on in perpetuity. My searches thus far, as well as my query in the RKC thread, haven't turned up the answer.
Also, where would you uninstall the SDK certificates? In remove programs, in the certificates setting area, or manually in file explorer? (Edit: discovered that certificates can be deleted by tapping, holding and waiting for a view/delete menu)
Thanks for your help
bump
My plan is to go ahead and experiment with it over the holidays, and I'll report back. However, if someone already knows, I do welcome their insights.

As promised, I'm reporting my findings for anyone else who might be curious.
It is in fact necessary to leave the SDK certs on continued functioning of the drivers. I experimented by installing the certs, then adding the modified drivers, making sure they worked, then removing the certificates. The drivers would eventually cease working (possibly only after a reset?).
Also, where would you uninstall the SDK certificates?

The only way I found to remove the certificates was to use the remove sdkcerts cab, found here. I was unable to find them with the other certificates in settings.

But how does this package fit into that? This looks like perhaps a way to get native debugging working, but I don't see what to do with this.
You haven't provided any information about what it does--the program just quits regardless of zune state or WP-device connected state. What does it do? Through what means is someone to interact with it? I don't know too much about how RAPI worked on Windows Mobile, but there isn't any indication of how to use /this/ in the article you linked.

I give to more info... but not now my friend
[This is a reverse engineering effort in progress. Your mileage may vary and information below could be completely inaccurate. Proceed at your own risk.]
It's a Windows service. Copy it somewhere handy, and issue the command (editing the path as necessary). NOTE: The spaces are required.
Sadly, I don't recall retail phones having RAPI bits, so doubt this will be useful. I'll have another look at the filesystem though.
Update: Judging by the way this executable behaves, it's likely meant to replace WMZuneComm.exe.
Update 2: Because of the reliance on Zune libraries (e.g. ZuneSA.dll), this is for 32-bit Zune users.
Update 3: Listens on localhost, port 64694
These are old binaries from old Zune client software. Retail devices don't have RAPI bits (verified via samsung ffus), therefore this is useless. Silly original poster.

You do not have right to end because of ... Each distributed system WP7, has the shell RAPI applications and libraries.
You can't just dust off old Zune files from 2009 and magically connect this to a phone. Get real.
I've been looking into modding my Lumia 640 WP10, and it seems like most if not all of the apps involved require deploying with Windows Phone Power Tools. When I try to use it, it tells me the phone needs an update, and launches the Phone Tools Update Pack which always results in this message: "The update operation did not succeed. You can press Rescan to try reconnecting to the device. The exception code and error message is: 0x80004003 - Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
I have not been able to find any information about this particular error, and any assistance would be very helpful. I have already set the phone to developer mode and been able to deploy the root tool, but have been unable to do anything else without the power tools.
Same problem
I think the newest update is buggy. I was trying to do the same and keeps getting the same error. This might help you.
I'm not sure why the forum only emailed me for the first reply so I'm a bit late seeing yours, DaRealAce. I am not actually using an Insider build right now but thank you, that link did help. It's definitely not the same problem, but I was able to fix mine by using the Interop Tools app linked in that thread. Since that is an appx I was able to sideload it, making vcREG unnecessary. After going through the unlock settings in that app, I was able to deploy the AdBlocker app (my original goal) using the regular WP 8.1 Deployment Tool rather than WP Power Tools, which did not work previously.
Oddly though, somewhere in the process the phone no longer shows up on the PC as a mass storage device.

Kind of surprised you're still running Windows 8.1. Windows 10 is free for you and better in just about every way, regardless of the UI changes. Just a recommendation, though I doubt it'd fix your issue.
There's an easy way to tackle this but it depends on how the driver is being installed. If you're connecting your phone to your computer and Windows is insisting on downloading and installing this "TP-Link" driver from Windows Update, there is a way to disable this in a few easy steps. If you're connecting your phone to your computer and Windows just assumes that it's a "TP-Link Android Phone" and applies the wrong pre-loaded driver (usually gives you a notification near the clock) then we're gonna have to get a bit crafty.
EDIT: Silly question. You don't have USB tethering or any wacky app that would be causing this issue, right?

Would you mind doing something for me before performing the steps I'm going to list below? Go into Device Manager with the phone plugged in and installed as the stupid "TP-Link" BS and find it in the list of devices. Should probably be under Portable Devices or something. Right click it and click Properties, go to the Driver tab and click "Driver Details". All of the drivers should be located in the 'system32/DRIVERS' folder. Mind giving me the names of those drivers listed? Naming convention is typically driverName.sys.
Additionally, we're going to try a Group Policy change. Hit Windows Key + R and type 'gpedit.msc' and hit enter. A window labeled "Local Group Policy Editor" should come up. Then do the following:
Expand Computer Configuration (Left hand side, the navigation panel)
Expand Administrative Templates
Expand System
Expand Device Installation
Click Device Installation Restrictions
On the right hand side, now, there should be a list of restrictions. Somewhere in that list there should be an item "Prevent installation of devices not described by other policy settings". Double-click that and another window named the same thing should pop up. In the top left, set it to enabled and click Apply, then OK.
Unplug your phone and get rid of that ****ty driver if you haven't already and then restart and try connecting the phone again to see if the same incorrect driver install occurs.
@MKD73 You ever get this sorted out?
Sorry been away on holiday for the weekend , I'll be taking a look in the morning :victory:
Please give update
Have you resolved this issue? My laptop is acting the same. Device manager sees my phone as "TP-Link Android Phone" with sub category of "Android Bootloader Interface." I can't use ADB with it, not recognized.
I tried doing what Alcolawl said but nothing happens. When I right click the "TP Link--- it just says general properties, no 'drivers' etc. I saw the 'driver' option in the "Andoid bootloader Interface" . It says the driver is: winusb.sys, wdfCoInstaller01009.dll and WinUSBInstaller2.dll. When I tried to edit the group, it says "Windows can not find gpedit.msc
Hope you can help me. My phone is stuck in fastboost mode- LG D838

Hi Kalikotpepot,
Got the same issue here., Nexus 5x keeps on rebooting, no way to get to recovery and shows as TP Link on my computer. Did you manage to sort it out somehow?

I did it. Execute :
Code:
rundll32.exe newdev.dll,DeviceInternetSettingUi 2
and prevent driver from being installed.
Help me please!
Did you guys manage to fix it? I tried everything you people said but it didn't work. I have a Blu Vivo Xi+ and my PC only recognizes it as TP-LINK Android Phone. I dumbly deleted it's OS and all it's data when trying to update it. I only have access to TWRP and fastboot, is there a way to fix it? I would love if someone could assist me ?.
Hiya folks.
I am feeling like kind of an idiot here but I can't find this magical virtual CD that allegedley contains the USB Drivers I need to allow ADB to play nicely with my phone.
The phone is connected, I can see and browse the internal storage on the "OnePlus 9 Pro 5G" folder - But there's no virtual CD showing up at all. I have tried with and without developer mode in all of the connection options (Charge only, Files, Photos).
I wouldn't mind except I want to unlock the bootloader, and I can't find any USB drivers that will work. There are a lot of dodgy looking sites, but none of them seem legit at all.
I am using Windows 11, and it's an unlocked North American T-Mobile phone.
[Update, tried on Windows 10 as well but that didn't have it either]

Yes... I have managed to install it using somebody else's suggestion of installing "Driver Booster" which found and corrected it for me - But I'd still like a proper install package for it and I have no idea where that magical Virtual-CD is!
(Also I just noticed that my signature is about a decade or more out of date )

Just do a Google search for latest OnePlus USB drivers and you will find them very easy. Make sure to disable driver signature verification on PC and reboot before installing drivers and reboot after installing. Done!
Here are the drivers provided by support along side the MSM tool:
