Hi guys and gals,
Do you think one could get CMx working on this phone with LB, since some guys managed to do this for Xperia P/sola/U/go or is it impossible due to completely different mainboards?
Gesendet von meinem Sony Xperia™ S mit Tapatalk 4
Yes
And how?
Gesendet von meinem LT26i mit Tapatalk 4 Beta
We have great devs for Xperia s like letama or rayman fx. If it would be possible I think we would have it.
That's true, but don't you think they focus on more important things like AOSP or CM10.1(for UB ofc)? @letama, what do you think?
Gesendet von meinem LT26i mit Tapatalk 4
It can be done, a lot of devices do that. But as we can unlock bootloaders, devs use that in their favor, is harder to port aosp instead of building aosp. An example is all the phones from motorola that came before the atrix. All have locked bootloader, runs cm(some even have official support ).
Sent from my Xperia S using xda app-developers app
That's what I think too. Do you know how to do this?
Gesendet von meinem LT26i mit Tapatalk 4 Beta
Sure.
Just find a way to extract the correct payload from our bootloader and we can flash a Justin Bieber MP3 on it, hard brick it, do fancy things and stuff.
1. Fact: CM on locked bootloaders is possible. But not for our device (we always need custom kernels).
Other devices (e.g. my TF101) could aswell use their stock kernel with CM and hijack (or extend in this case) the ramdisk using init.d scripts etc.
2. Fact: The only chance for locked Xperia S' is to 'crack' the locked bootloaders, meaning what I said above, extracting the payload, invlolving brute force attacks galore, and much, MUCH time I am not willing to spend on it (neither anyone else I guess). Extracting and decrypting the bootloader key is possible, but very complicated and difficult. Oh and there's a good chance of hardbricked devices before we can work out the correct way to inject the key during bootloader loading.

Yup. That would be very difficult on our devices. Completely agree with you. Once I read I thread that a guy is offering $100 to one to crack it to flash custom kernel on our devices. But no one is willing to do. So I think no one is willing to spend their time with this now. The best way is to unlock the bootloader to do this (I guess)

You could try setting up a VNC server to control the phone remotely, then use a separate software to record the program's display
I haven't tried it or anything but this seems like it could also work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtB36BTllwY

If you want to root you can downgrade (to .62 or .42) or boot for example:
1. doomkernel which root your phone
2. Recovery and flash rootzip (look for it on the forum or i can upload it for you later if you want)
and than you can use record app
Of course for both you need unlocked bootloader

The following donations will be given to a person / team who achieves either of:
Unlocking a non-unlockable bootloader without Sony proprietary software
Flashing a kernel image on a bootloader locked device
Hotbooting a CodeAurora based kernel on a bootloader locked device
To qualify for the donation, the solution must meet the following requirements:
Software
The source code must be available under an OSI compliant open source license (list)
Binaries must be available for native Android or a desktop operating system, preferably Windows and/or Linux
Developer documentation for making compatible kernel images must be provided
Hardware
Detailed explaination of the process must be provided
All risks must be minimized where possible
The modification should be possible without using very specialized equipment
The developer(s) to achieve this will receive a donation of Till 100$

I think you should reword it. If anyone finds an exploit that allows flashing kernels on a locked bootloader or unlocks the boot loader completely and releases it under the MIT or any other OSI certified open source license, etc.

It would be a remarkable change on this powerfull machine, blocked by a "stupid" security question applied on an open-source OS.

I'll donate like $10 if it keeps the DRM keys intact as well, not worth any more for me because mine is bootloader unlockable anyway, I just don't want to risk the warranty if I don't have to, but will do if nothing else comes of it.
That's for an Xperia U.
Too risky. Might end up bricking the phone worth 500USD for 100 USD.
Even unfortunate that all xperia u in India are bootloader unlock allowed. (My guess)
I am in with 5€ if it unlocks the bootloader of the LwW of my gf.

I think, considering the risks, should be at minimum the whole cost of the phone, because no one wants to try to do something without any guarantees.

1. Doesn't hurt to be on the latest baseband and bootloader. Some have better luck with different basebands so that may end up being some trial and error based on your location.
2. Battery reset won't hurt either and would give you a clean slate to start from.
3. Rom wise, if you want 4.3 you can't go wrong with slimrom. If you want 4.4 CMetal has the game right now.
4. Kernel wise, everyone has their favorite but Mpokang Kernel v10 is been making the rounds as fast with plenty of available ram. Since we only have a gig ram having plenty extra so there is less swapping helps.
If you are going to use a 4.4 rom make sure to grab the latest recoveries.

You said "Open source is important for us" on developer world blog... then why Sony blocks great camera features when we unlock bootloader?
This DRM protect is bad for encouraging open source community.
There will be more people if Sony doesn't use DRM protect for (at least) camera functionality.
Sony is doing far more for the developer / ROM community of its devices than any other OEM. The S6 and M9 won't have a good AOSP build for a while, probably ever.
Keep it up Sony.

That is my main question too, before I commit to getting the Z5.
I'd unlock the bootloader on my Z5 in a heartbeat, but considering I'd lose the camera and screen enhancements, I simply can't. People talk about how great Sony is to the developers, but considering that we lose device functionality (PERMANENTLY) for unlocking the bootloader, I simply disagree.
