Title says most of it, the inevitable drop happened onto the tiles of my bathroom and the screen blacked out. There are still a few live pixels but most is black. The screen itself isnt cracked and im pretty sure it landed on one of the corners. I just wondered, is this something I can fix by replacing the screen, or is the phone ruined?
There aint any rattling either if I shake the phone around.
I am not very sure but i think Samsung could repair it but you'll have to pay quite a lot money. You could ask the support
Yes, you can probably replace it yourself. The reason for the screen being all black is that you have cracked the LCD and the black is the liquid. You may have damaged something else as well, but phones are normally fairly resilient to being dropped, apart from LCD and touch screen components.

Look on eBay, but don't buy the cheapest available as they tend to be a bit dodgy. If you had USB Debugging enabled then you should still be able to recover the data anyway.

Im actually not sure, because I think I disabled a few weeks ago after not having flashed for a while.. Looks like I got a day of work ahead of me.
I cant really log into the phone, but is it possible to dump the internal memory via adb?
You can try. Even tjough you can't see it, try booting to recovery, then adb shell in and get what you need.

ok so I managed to crack the screen..nice big shatter mark under the screen and now the entire screen went black...insurance is a pain and from what I understand getting Asurion to replace my vibrant will be $130 and buying an AMOLED screen itself is cheaper.
The rest of the phone is still in working condition as before my screen went totally black after it broke some of it was still functional.
Any idea on where I can get the screen? I have not had luck on ebay as of yet, and was hoping someone here could recco a reputable vendor...
Aliexpress? aliexpress DOTcom/product-fm/342627474-Touch-Digitizer-LCD-Display-AMOLED-Screen-origianl-i9000-for-T-Mobile-Samsung-Vibrant-t959-Wholesale-wholesalers.html

www.cnn.cn maybe? it about $70 +sh
Wow wish I would had found this post sooner...
I dropped my vibrant from my and it was in the case.. it landed flat on the screen..glass did not break but AMOLED screen enploded.. I didnt know until i got to my car and tried to make a call. Crap...I dish out the $130.00 bucks ...bummed out about that..
oh man ...
Still great site and price. Thanks
Thanks I'll try cnn.cn. I see some decent reviews about them.
Is there a tutorial on how to replace this? Or would you have to get someone to do it?

youtube.. just search for it..
I cracked my screen also. I found that site after I put in the claim. So I figured what the hell and started taking it apart, for next time.
It isn't easy! I'm pretty nerdy and good with my hands. Be very careful and very patient. There are small parts and wires that can very easily break.
Sent from a Samsung Vibrant.
ok so I got the screen...and this thing is hard as hell to swap...anyone have any ideas? I dont want to further damage anything...

Have you had any luck with this?I own an Orange San Francisco and cracked the amoled, unfortunately orange or any other site/company offers any repair AFAIK. I'm looking into repairing it myself, are amoled connectors compatible from one phone to another or are they manufacturer specific if you are aware of? I know this is a long shot but it doesn't hurt asking.

it would most likely have to be the same part
because the Galaxy S series are the only ones with that size AMOLED screen.
been there done that
i got a vibrant off of something awful for pretty cheap with a broken screen
first off you literally have to pry the screen off of the phone
and the bottom four buttons? there is a very thin ribbon cable that is glued to the screen
there are a few things youll need
1.really small screw driver (i got a glasses repair kit from the dollar store. worked great)
2.something to pry the screen off (used a screw driver from said kit)
3.balls. that ribbon cable is very very easy to break
first off you have to take apart the phone completely
i would even take off the one board that the screen connects to
then you need to pry off the screen very carefully
if your amold or whatever part is broken you're going to have to peel it off
it really sucks and makes you look like a bad 70s disco
after that it gets pretty simple
make sure you have something to hold the top and bottom part to the phone
mine isnt flush due to me being a jackass and not getting the right glue stuff to hold it down
after that it should work perfect like before
if anyone wants to trade me a new screen for the i9000 screen or buy me a screen (lol) i would make a very detailed video (not happy with the way the first attempt turned out)
post itt or pm me if you have any questions
So you are saying it should work, but what about the software part, won't there be any problems?

I really need help. I got my phone apart w/ the board for speaker and camera off and the front speaker off. I did not remove the haptic feedback motor yet. how the hell do you actually pry the screen off. i just don't see a way.
will the international galaxy s screen work for vibrant they hace same shape compared to captivate. And I9000s screen is cheaper than T959 screen (based on ebay price)
So me, the cluts that I am, dropped my phone, and now there is a huge crack in the screen. FML. Anyway, the repair place told me it would cost $199 to replace it, as they need to replace the LCD as well, is this correct?
Cheers

I believe they design the Gorilla Glass on the phone to shatter but leave the contents of the LCD screen itself intact. Can you still use the screen? Meaning do the touch capabilities work?

If thats the case, I think that whoever your going through to fix it is just trying to rip you off. The screen costs 30$ and they will charge you 170$ for the manual labor. If it were me I would just buy a screen off of amazon if they have it or another site and fix it myself. But you don't want to hurt the contents of the phone either. Up to you ultimately.

So would say, something like this
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Touc...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item1e6e1fbad4
be okay?
Seems legitimate to me. But I'd look and see if there are any videos on youtube or anything like that of people changing it so you know exactly what to do. Since the phone has a unibody case; there might be some temperamental pieces that come off.

The LCD screen is glued to the glass, it isn't possible to detached the LCD screen from the glass without damaging the LCD or leaving glue residue that will just make for a messy reuse of the LCD panel.
You can see what is involved replacing the screen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5TRf0REyMM

the screen broke. I don't know what part of it broke exactly though. it was in an otterbox and i want to cry haha, but the outside of the phone looks perfect and the gorilla glass is still in one piece, but below it you can barely see a crack going from the top to the bottom. The phone still works cause i still get text messages and everything sounds correct, but nothing on the screen turns on any more. It just stays black. What's the best/cheapest way to fix it? should i just sell it broken on ebay and buy another phone? What should I do?
Thanks!

Honestly insurance is the best way to go if you have it on the phone. The phone requires you heat the front of the glass carefully to remove the digitizer and that gets pretty much destroyed after doing it. There is glue bonding it together. If you were able to get that off cleanly you can get to the LCD which seems to have gotten damaged from what you're saying, which can be bought online like ebay and such. Good luck to you.
i would try insurance but for about $200 you can get the screen and bezel in one piece and change it pretty easily. I would not go the route of trying to change the glass and lcd. it is way too messy.

You probably could fix it for yourself for like 30 bucks seen people do it on youtube
sounds like exactly what happened to mine ... I feel your pain .
may I suggest contacting your local Samsung repair center and asking them what your options are .
You might just get lucky like I did and they fixed mine for free .... no guarantee but it doesn't hurt to try .

holy **** what they made me pay when i broke mine.. wow bs lol
Unfortunately I dropped my phone yesterday and I think I broke either the digitizer or lcd or both. Funny thing is the screen didn't break at all. No damage on the outside, but you can see what appears to be some lines (possibly black) under the screen. You used to be able to see the screen (had a lot of distorted colors and lines) and I'd be able to plug in a mouse (unresponsive touch screen) and still use my phone, but just recently my screen won't even turn back on. Did I end up breaking my digitizer and/or lcd? I can confirm that the phone still powers on since I am able to use it via voice commands. I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions? I was going to attempt to repair it, but if it costs me $100+ I may as well just buy a new phone, thinking nexus 5. Anyway, is there anything else I can try?
Thanks
If you broke the LCD and want to replace your self you can buy a kit from Amazon or eBay. They usually have some kits for around $10-$20 if you don't want to pay $100+ for someone then going for a new phone would be a better choice

Really? I've seen kits going for $100 at the very least. Maybe it was the lcd plus digitizer? How do I find out if my lcd and digitizer are broke or if it's just one of them?

If the phone wasn't responding to touches when you were able to see the screen after the drop your digitizer is fubar.

Ok thanks. Guess it's time to get a new phone.
Hi, so I dropped my One X on the road and before I noticed it, I stepped on it.. It's the first time my phone is damaged after more than a year of using it. Aside from having scars all over it's white body, nothing much happened to the camera, audio, etc.
The bit that I cannot live with is a small burn line that appears yellow and red/pinkish on the center right edge on the screen, it appears more on white backgrounds i.e. browsers, etc.. It's really annoying, I have no warranty nor insurance, and I have no clue on what it actually is.
Can anyone give me a clue on what exactly is it, how to fix it, and how much would it cost? Thanks.

Oh noes, I was planning to sell it and get a Nexus 5 after a couple of weeks, but looks like I'm never gonna be able to sell it now.
Any idea how much will a screen replacement cost me?

here you are man there is even the back cover if u want
One X replacement
I think the colouration is due to permanent pressure applied on that part of the screen. Perhaps when you stepped on it you caused some internal component to shift and apply pressure on the screen from inside. I suggest getting a replacement back cover (pretty cheap), open the device, unscrew the motherboard and rescrew see if the pressure point is relieved. Then go ahead and replace the cover and theres a good chance all will be back to normal.
There's a ton of disassembly videos on YouTube. It's pretty easy - I just did it for the first time this week to swap a damaged battery.
