Hi -
I am sorry if this question bothers some ... but I have looked around (searched) for a day or 2 and learning the do's and don'ts
of Rooting / Installing Recovery / Flashing ROM's for THIS phone (my 5th Android phone). I am pretty familiar with rooting and
running custom recoveries flashing roms and kernels and even a little coding (very little) on many phones and tabs over the past
couple years. But this is a new phone for me. I have used the search forum button, but I keep getting different solutions , or they
are very old and I am not sure they still apply to this phone running 4.0.4
My phone is 2nd hand, but never been rooted. It is 100% stock. It is running fine with my SIM and everything works ... but I need
to ROOT and instal RECOVERY so I can run custom ROM asap. Please help or point me to the correct location to....
Install a RECOVERY (either CWM or TWRP (prefer twrp))
ROOT the phone
Start flashing custom ROMS and Kernels  (this one I know how)
I see some program called "Odin" but I have never used a PC app to root my stuff in the past ... so yeah I am confused
PLEASE Help me at least with #1 ( Installing recovery ) and #2 ( Get Root )
========================================================
Here is exactly what I got.
PHONE: Samsung Galaxy S II ( T-MOBILE VERSION )
MODEL: SGH-T989
ANDROID: 4.0.4
BASEBAND: T989UVLI4
KERNEL: 3.0.8-perf-1190554 [email protected] #1
BUILD: IMM76D.UVLI4
SD-Card: 32 Gig's
=======================================================
Currently I am running a heavily modded MIUI on a T-Mobile LG G2x P999 and I run Windows 7 Ultimate on my PC.
*Note* I DO NOT CARE if I lose anything that is currently on this new Galaxy phone.
Thank you for at the very lest reading this far !! I ramble on a lot I know. I am looking forward to some helpful replies :fingers-crossed:

That guide will walk you through everything you need to do. Set aside an hour (and a stiff drink) to get through everything. Odin is VIRTUALLY foolproof, don't worry. Like it says the .zip has all you need, I've used it 3 times. I would recommend updating twrp to the latest version when you are done. (2.5.5.0 I think) goo manager is probably the easiest way. Good luck!

[Q] How to update Galaxy s3 I747 rooted / clockworkmod ?

I have a samsung galaxy s3 I747 and I have on my cell phone:
android 4.1.1
Clockworkmod v6.0.1.4
stock rom
When I bought my cell I rooted it with a tutorial I found here at the xda_developers forum.
here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2042775
it rooted and installed clockworkmod also.
I am a noob with all of this and my question is, how do i upgrade android?
I go to settings, about device, software update, then it tell me I can download an update, after I downloaded it my phone says it will restart in 5 seconds, after it does, clockworkmod kicks in and I don't know what to do from there.
After that I reboot my cell phone and it tells me that the upgrade was interrupted and to press ok, when i press ok it starts normal but with no upgrade.
then I have to wait 23 hours for the next try.
I went in the menus of clockworkmod and most of them say load or stuff like that from the sd card.
Thank you for your time
Explaining every step here would be very long and it will take a lot of time, but there's a dedicated guide in the General section that will help you tons!
Notice: You won't be able to update through the method you're trying because you're rooted, and that update it's a stock official update which will detect your rooted Galaxy S3 and its clockworkmod and it will make the update fail everytime. Look at it like some type of Samsung security thing.
If your Galaxy S3's ROM is on Android version 4.1.1 you can always update to 4.3 from a software called "Odin", there are tons of youtube videos about that. But if you want to keep the clockworkmod recovery and install custom ROMS (CM11, AOPK, 4.4, 4.4.2, 4.4.4) which are pretty much all the ROMS and updates around here, you'll have to follow the guide I mentioned. I too had the same questions as you a long time ago, and it took me a while to get the hang of it, but I'm pretty sure you'll have a nice looking and great update/ROM on your S3. Just follow the instructions and you'll be good.
Good luck mate!

Need help/suggestions on how to flash ArchiDroid on an untouched/stock XperiaM

Hi guys, been following this awesome community for a while now. I got a OnePlus One and I managed to unlock/root it thx to a thread on this forums (even if I'm not that "pro" with phones), but now I have my father's Xperia M (which has never been unlocked/rooted/flashed or anything) that is updated to Android 4.3 and I need help on how to proper install a custom ROM on it (I'm interested in the ArchiDroid one in particular). I don't like Sony's stock ROM, it's acting badly on some things (video recording for example) and in general it just sucks imho, so I want to upgrade to a custom Lollipop one (ArchiDroid). Can someone kindly explain me all the initial steps I have to take to, at least, install a custom recovery on the phone (possibly the TWRP since I used it for the OPO aswell)? Do i need to unlock the bootloader or something? Thx a lot!
Yes, u need to unlock your bootloader.U can do it through fastboot mode.Detailed information is available on Official Sony's Developer world page. Then flash custom recovery like cwm or twrp. Finally download the zip file and start flashing it.
Yep I managed to do all the stuff just yesterday, but thx anyway! Although it was not easy AT ALL, took me all day and was just a nightmare lol. The phone went immediately in bootloop after unlocking the bootloader, so I had to flash an appropriate firmware with flashtool, and I even had a problem at the very end of the process while trying to install the ROM itself (I choosed the official stock CM 12.1 nightly btw), because CWM was giving a stupid error. Thank god a guy here on the forums reported that CWM has problems with some SDs and posted a method to solve them all (by doing a total format of the SD with a program called SDFormatter).

Have you unlocked your bootloader ?
No not too sure how to do that. Any good threads you guys reccomend.
Many thanks
So I know this is scary for you and because it is something new, therefore be sure that you want to live with the responsability if something goes wrong.
Now, the next forum thread tells you how to flash an already rooted image BUT, and this is very important, this works only if you have the version 10c installed (Check in About Phone>Software Version)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/orig-development/root-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765
If you have the latest version of the software (20a) the best thing is to unlock your bootloader, void your warranty in the process, and flash a custom recovery. After that, you just need to flash the SuperSu zip file and you will have root.
To flash custom ROMs, just access recovery and flash the zip file of your ROM.
I'm using the unofficial CM13.0 and works very good for me, but I do miss the official camera app.
Thankyou very much for your advice okarr. Will look into this

You must Unlockbootloader and flash TWRP to install Cyanogenmod
The general steps:
1) Backup any important personal data before you start, off the phone.
2) Unlock bootloader via HTCDev.com, and flash TWRP custom recovery. There is a step by step guide here. For flashing CM, you only need to do Sections 0 and 1 (and don't need to root as described at end of Section 1). While the guide is a bit dated, Sections 0 and 1 are still relevant, with the exception that that you need to use an updated version of TWRP 3.0 found here: https://dl.twrp.me/m8/
Also the command to flash TWRP (somewhat obviously) needs to contain that same updated TWRP version name/number.
3) Put the desired ROM and Google Apps (gapps) on the phone or SD card.
4) Boot into TWRP. Make a TWRP backup (nandroid) of your current ROM and setup in the TWRP "Backup" section.
5) Go to TWRP "Wipe" section and do the default wipe (don't go into Advanced section unless someone specifically tells you to).
6) Go to TWRP "Install" section, browse to the desire (CM) ROM, and install it. Also flash the desire gapps package.
7) Reboot and setup the phone. The first boot will probably remain on the boot splash screen for a good 10 minutes, than maybe 5-10 minutes more optimizing apps.
8) Drink beer

Updating HTC 10

Hello everyone! Some time ago I rooted my phone + used custom Leedroid ROM. Unfortunately I forgot how did I do that and right now I am expiriencing some problems with my phone. I would love to update my phone. I am considering to change the ROM too. Right now my phone uses android 7.0 so i would like to update that. I have the TWRP recovery installed but probably outdated version.
Could anyone help me please to get through this without my phone getting messed up? I am little bit lost in these kernel, ROM and recovery words.
I can provide any information required about the phone.
Don't open questions in the rom development section, has nothing to do here.
1) update TWRP (plenty of tutorials on how to do this)
2) download ROM of choice
3) flash the ROM in TWRP
Edit: answers in your other thread.
