I just installed K-9 email client and like it a lot. The only problem is that it doesn't seem possible to put it's unread count widget into the dock. I can put other widgets in the dock, but not this one. Is there any way around that or another widget I could use of that sort that would go in the dock?
I'm not rooted, stock, no launcher. If there is a launcher that would accomplish this, I'd consider it, but otherwise the stock works for me.
You could definitely try Apex launcher.
Okay, I've installed Apex Launcher, purchased Apex Pro, installed Apex notifications, but still can't figure out how to get an icon for K-9 unread mail into the dock.
I see that I can have the K-9 unread count show on either the email icon or the Gmail one, but then tapping on the icon opens those apps not K-9. I have missed something?
Please explain how to do this.
TIA
Okay, I've found the Apex setting to allow widgets in the dock and have put the K-9 unread email widget there. That works; but the icon is so ugly and smaller than the other ones in the dock. Long press doesn't give any edit settings for it. Any way I can get this working with a nicer icon?
Nova prime had the feature and you can change your icon to anything you want.

I installed Nova & purchased Nova prime, but I don't see how to change the icon displayed for K-9. Do I need a theme, an icon pack or what? Please clarify.
Thanks.

That works for other icons, but the K9 icon doesn't have the choice of edit on a long press.

...and then set transparent shortcuts for the app drawer, phone, and settings on top of it.
You can use "Fancy Widget" as the clock, it's identical to the stock HTC clock.
You can also use Pure Messenger, Calender, and Music widgets with the Sense themes that come with them to replace the other HTC widgets.
I did change the system font, so the weather info on the clock will look a little different, but you get the idea.

Sure, which one?
Edit: OH. here's the transparent icon for the launcherpro dock.
I was thinking, a great launcher app would be when the phone is put into the dock, the launcher activates a setting and a specific layout of icons that you would want to use with the phone (while in the dock) comes onto the screen automatically.
Thoughts?
I like it. Sort of like a car dock app.
Something like a big clock in the top 2/3rds and a row of icons on the bottom.

Yea exactly.
I just got the idea because I have a custom layout with ADW Launcher and I have something like 5 rows and 6 columns and so when its rotated the icons on the screen are pretty hard to press so sometimes I hit/launch other apps.
So this concept would help me out a lot.
It's interesting that the 2.1-2.3 clock app had exactly what we are talking about. It wasn't customizable though.
They got rid of it in 3.0+

That is pretty much exactly what I was thinking. If there is an app in the play store that does this I'd pay for it.
How about this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.DevBob.DeskClockPlus
Does the GNex not do this on its own when inserted into the landscape dock (when you are running 4.0.4 and higher)?

It does. We are just talking about alternatives.
EDIT: To add to this. The stock ICS clock removed the quick launch icons and weather and just displays the clock now. (which I'm sure you already know)
Sure, you can press home and go to the launcher but it would be nice to have the features of the old clock app with the ICS look.

All it does is just show a clock that is intended to use at bedside. Once you touch the home button it brings you to the launcher you are using.

It's good but I think something with more customizable icons on the "dock" of the app would be ideal for me.

You can with this app. It requires an add-on purchase though. Here's the quote from the app description.
Optionally, you can purchase an extension that will allow you to add additional buttons docks and choose your own applications to launch from Desk Clock Plus. Swipe left and right on the dock or on the time and weather to re-arrange the layout. You can also swipe the time and weather panels to reconfigure the clock's layout.

I also, sent the dev a message on G+ asking if he had any plans to base off the ICS clock or add an ICS theme.
Hey guys,
I was wondering if it could be possible to get the Tablet search bar (with the appdrawer button on the top right corner) running on Nova or Apex?
I am currently running PARANOIDANDROID and I love that search bar, but running trebuchet I can't remove the appdrawer button on the bottom without removing the dock (disabling Hybrid Mode)
Is there any way to either get the tablet search bar running on Nova/Apex or remove the appdrawer button on Trebuchet?

Yeah paranoid android does it but icons are pretty small. Try email the Dev to make it an option instead of the phone version of the search bar.

I use Nova Prime. I saw that Apex added the option, but I've paid for Nova, and I've always used it, so it isn't worth switching over for this one feature.
I use Nova Prime as my launcher on my Sprint Galaxy Nexus and have always wondered why there has been a lack of development on the "unread count" feature that is included with the Prime version of Nova.
I recently switched from the Tesla Unread Count apk to Missed It! 3.3.4 in hopes that Missed It would display notifications better.
Both options do just fine at showing unread texts or missed calls over the icons for my phone and messaging .apks but I wanted to try Missed It! hoping that it's ability to recognize and share notifications from any app that is able to display a notification in the status bar... would show a count over the app icon in the same way it does for calls or texts.
For example, I get Facebook notifications in my status bar, but I am looking for something that will display the same type of notification on the homescreen shortcut for Facebook on my homepage. Or Instagram notification over the Instagram icon on my homescreen.
I guess I am asking for help in finding the right way to put an app shortcut on my homescreen... and have a notification count show up on the icon of that app, plain and simple. I have a fairly simple 3 screen layout and I hide the Nova dock unless I need it. I've got a UCCW Google Now widget on a black background with a nexus logo which opens up my app drawer. I am slowly trying to minimize my homescreens and always auto-hide my status bar is the ultimate goal.... and I need help learning how to still get all the notifications I will need to see from my most used apps which is a very short list.
Missed It seems able to see notifications for any of the apps i need, but as far as i can tell it will only display them in an ugly widget format. Please suggest an alternative or suggestions(besides go develop my own app... I'm learning!) that could provide a solution to my hopeful set up.
Thank You very much in advance!
Mods, I hope this post is not breaking rules.
Please advise if it should be moved to Q&A or General.
And if I should delete and repost.

I'm not real sure if I am following you on your question. With the Telsa Plugin, it does show a count on the icon on the both the homescreen and in the app drawer. Nova with the plugin works really well.

Ok, let me start then. Pretty basic and clean.
Using nova launcher because I needed more customization.
Pretty simple so far, haven't really played around with much on the screen
Nova Launcher Prime, and Wallpaper Changer by XDA's @j4velin (not still around? "Last seen Jul 16, 2020" "Inactive Recognized Developer" ) to change wallpapers every time I unlock, and I can double-tap in an empty spot to manually change to the next random wallpaper (of my selected album full of them). Nova Launcher Prime Even restored data via Google in this v7. Most of my wallpapers are fantasy/sci-fi paintings by Jim Burns. I have my camera "app" set to open Google Photos if I swipe down on it, and open the camera folder if I swipe up on it to show all my camera-related apps. Similarly for "Phone", "GPS"/Google Maps, "Messaging", and "Internet". I have Nova set to lock the screen using Accessibility permissions when I swipe down with two fingers. Works great! Swipe left, I still have it go to Google Discover/News.
^like your Weawow weather widget which I use on my OnePlus devices. Still waiting on Pixel delivery to start rocking... Cheers
