Power off problem? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hi all,
recently, my Samsung S2 when I presses the power button and 'power off', it went as far as displaying 'goodbye' on the screen and the word stayed there forever.
mine is stock ics and rooted. This just happened recently.
what exactly is the problem?
I'd appreciate any help.thank you.

I had the same problem. Just wipe dalvik cache using your recovery.

I did use titanium backup to wipe dalwik cache but it did not help.

Using the recovery worked for me every time.

Have you downloaded any new apps lately? Have you try clearing cache and davlik-cache? Maybe a reboot or a hard reset?
We're comin from a pure power source.
yes ive done all those..even wiped my sd card and installed new rom, stil does it. idk

When it's on and you turn the screen off, does it turn off on the first press (eliminating the power button itself as the problem)?
That's weird. I thought maybe the button is going bad, but then it would do the same thing when turning it off I would think.

From your description, it seems like a mechanical/hardware problem, but if you're able to rule that out somehow, go into recovery, wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card and then download and flash a rooted stock ODEXED rom from HERE. This is a close to stock as you can get without unrooting. If it doesn't work with this rom, I would unroot, restore S-ON and then take it in to your local Sprint store.

Freeze on restart

I did the offical ICS update when it came out but it was always a little slow responding, i had read that doing a factory reset would help so i backed everything up with titanium then did a factory reset, i then restored all data and it helped, but now when i either restart our turn off my phone it freezes at the goodbye screen, any ideas?

thats a known issue because our official ics is half baked. try flashing a different rom like darkside to see if it helps. sorry I cant give muxh better help :-/

It had no problems with restart after the ICS update, used it since it was released, I did the factory reset today and now it freezes.

Both wont hurt. Make sure use use TDJ's cache wipe to properly fix permissions too.
Use Darkside Cache Wipe and it will fix the hang problem.
Thanks Atmazzz, ICS now is awesome. I am still thinking about trying Darkside Evolution, I just wish the YouTube update was smoother.

Randomly restarting

I just downloaded mijjah? Jb goodnes and now I can't let my phone sleep or press the power button without it turning off and restarting. Sometimes it will stay at the Samsung Galaxy s2 screen and the other times it will just turn back on. I did a full wipe. How can I fix this

Sorry, some of us are rather busy these days... we try to still help as possible.
When in doubt I suggest getting into download mode. If you can get there then flash a FI27 full restore OC and see if that gets you back going again. If it doesn't then you may need to take the phone in for repair.
Could be a bad power button...

Strange FC's after nandroid restore.

Since the upgrade to 4.3 OTA I've tried the CM11 nightlies a couple of times. They aren't quite ready for my taste yet, so I restore the stock 4.3 from CWM.
I then spend the next 15 minutess or so with gapps & my launcher force closing repeatedly. But usually after a while it will stop almost as suddenly as it started.
Has anyone else noticed anything like this?
The only thing that absolutely prevents it is a clean wipe after the restore. That rather negates the idea of a nabdroid backup in my mind though..

I can't possibly be the only one who has seen this, can I?

Have you tried wiping the dalvik or a fix permissions after the restore? Seeing as how data, system and cache are auto wiped with a restore this is all I could think of that may cause this.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Is Dalvik not also wiped?
