Hi, folks!
I'm kinda new to the XPeria S - got mine yesterday - but not to the community: had a Motorola Defy for over 2 years before the XS, and a HTC Magic before the Defy, both dealing with flashing on a weekly basis. My question is: on both my previous Android phones, changing splash screen (the one that appears before boot animation) was quite simple: on Magic, pushing a file via adb or fastboot (can't remember now), and on Defy a multi-purpose app did the trick. On XS, though, splash screen seems to be tied to the kernel image. I'd like to know if there's any way to change that, since I really want a splash screen of my choice, instead of the one chosen by the kernel dev. Thanks in advance.

Do you want that sweet sweet CyanogenMod goodness but can't follow anything in the forums? Well, I can't take any credit for this, as I'm only copying this file from the official CyanogenMod and posting it.
Copy to /data/local/bootanimation.zip
Reboot.
Feel 7.43% cooler.
Did not work for me. Placed it on /data/local/bootanimation.zip.
I later tried /mnt/sdcard/data/local, in case I got that wrong. did not work either. I'm using a Desire Z ROM, in case that matters.
As a side note: I find it quite odd that the phone is now re-booting in a matter of seconds, basically cutting the "HTC, quietly brilliant" boot animation in half and getting me almost instantly to the actual OS.
Works for me! Can't wait til CM gets a solid ROM out.
Thanks.

I noticed that too...what an awesome surprise! apparently any custom boot animation will cut boot time in half!!! This really needs to announced so I'll let the others know...
how would you do this with terminal? i tried
cp /data/local/bootanimation.zip and it gave me cp not found
i then tried /mnt sdcard/data/local/bootanimation.zip and it says not found
??
help please
Woah woah
To the first poster asking about "fast boot" that is a setting in settings applications development OF THE SENSE ROM.
To the fourth poster asking where "fastboot" is that's the fastboot query in the SPL bootloader.
Two entirely different things.
htc vision
ok so i ended up moving it via root explorer.. but i still want to learn how to do this with just the terminal... any commands that you guys can throw would be awesome
Hope someone can help. Have full root and bacon. Have tried putting a different boot animation in both the data/local and the system/media and if I put anything other than the stock boot animation I just get a black screen after splash. No faster boot time, it actually takes longer.

I'm having the same problem with a custom boot animation I put together last night. I'm running the CyanogenMod RC and the default CM animation plays fine. Mine on the other hand opens and plays just fine with the boot animation preview app but when I rename it to bootanimation.zip and push it to system/media all I get is the black screen, I don't think it's a permissions issue (chmod 777). I did not push it to data/local but there's not currently a bootanimation.zip in there so I don't think that would affect it either.
Anyone have any suggestions?

user is talking about HTC FAST BOOT, found in the DESIRE Z. it allows the phone to power-on in about 10 seconds (or seemingly less). the phone basically sleeps, and only requires a full boot, if the battery is pulled.
I have recently updated my R800i to version 4.0.2.A.0.42 and I was disappointed to see the CRT screen lock animation replaced by a boring fade animation.
So, I ventured on a quest to get it back without downgrading if that's possible. The animation is probably in framework-res.apk, but I don't know anything more than that.
There is an animation, but the wrong one. config_animateScreenLights is false.
Another possible solution might be to upgrade to 4.0.2.A.0.58, because they might have put the animation back since while googling for a solution I only saw more people whining and maybe SE noticed them.
Thanks in advance.

Sad news, i need the system dump which had the CRT Animation - Build 3.0.1.A.145 but theres no system dump on the web of that build, im just waiting for someone to donate it to me, or an older version of the dump that had the CRT Animation so i could port it... i tried using the arc/neo dump but because of screen resolutions/size it wouldnt work & all i ended up with was no screenlock animation
Hey all,
i have a little problem since the world wide update for 4.1 JB - when i take pictures the flash causes the picture to become green! i know its a problem with Custom roms but mine is an original update from the server. the pictures looks like it was taken at the Matrix..haha
well its nice for effects but for real its annoying...how do i get rid of it??
BTW uploaded a pic when i tried to snap shot the cover for a friend of mine
thank you!
Another one confirming same problem as i have, and i have seen people with HOX+ also having this.
Problem seemse to be KERNEL related. ICS works great on my phone with flash but when i load any version of JB Sense i get greenish images like yours.
This is a REAL PROBLEM but apperantly no-one is noticing it besides me and some isolated users. Either people dont notice ( how can you not?) or they dont use flash that often.
I realy hope the .27 build fixes this. If i get official JB and this problem persists i realy hope HTC gets around fixing this.
Btw. this seems to be a problem with handsets all the time, small problems but still something in particular HTC have a issue with.
I can confirm this is NOT a HARDWARE issue, changing kernels fixes it so it has to do with post processing - a B/W image looks just right but with the green boosted up way to much.
Try change sarturation to max/min aswell as iso 100/800.
tnx for your answer!
its obviously not HARDWARE problem, because the regular pics goes perfect!
i tried it all - non worked its still the same...
i guess ill be waiting for a new update to come or maybe go rogue and install an unofficial ROM...
the same Something with software.
thats not fun \=
well i have posted a new question for help on HTC main Facebook page, and showed them this thread i hope we all get final answers for that itchy bug :cyclops:
Same problem
I have the same problem with stock JB...
It's software and to do with the flash bleeding, on SLR you get a florescent filter but try this.
Go take picture again this time press the cog and go to white balance, change that from auto to florescent.
Let me know if that works, I can't get mine to do it to test.

The white Google logo at the beginning when you turn the phone on.
All the other images I found are not of high enough quality.
This?
Yes. But the original one from the phone.
What's different about it?
The logo is bigger, and the resolution is 768x1280.
Is there anyway to extract the original one from the phone? I need it to be exact.
I don't think you wanna mess around with this since the so called boot splash is built in to the kernel. If you know this stuff, change it in your kernel at the high risk of a brick and if you're a noob like me, just let it be.

So by replacing this image with the same file name out will boot the new image?
Does file size matter?
Yes, I just want to make it part of my boot animation. I need the actual image so I can mess around with it and add new things to it.

You should also find out if the size of the image makes a difference with noting or is updates
I tried other images I found on Google Images but the resolution are too small.
I enlarged and expanded to size but it makes the Google Logo blurry and the detail deteriorates extremely.
Is there a way I can extract the original image?
Please.
Again.
I don't understand... Why don't you just get the highest res Google logo you can find on Google images and put it against a 768x1280 background?

Wow. You're like one of those people that call tech support and give the most vague answers and descriptions turning what could have been a 10 minute call into a 2 hour call. It took two pages just to understand what you were wanting, lol. Ok, ok...now that i've picked on you, i'll be serious. To help you out in future requests, it's always best to give out as much info as possible. What is the request, what is it for. It's always best to give out too much information rather than too little.
I agree with another poster here. Just download a high res google logo and slap it onto a background the size you need. Gimp is free and can do just this.
Oh, also found this (just happened to be browsing in the boot animations thread. I haven't seen the animation itself, but it's the logo from the splash screen with 2 gears under it. I'm sure with a small amount of editing, you can get this to do what you want.

The Google logo is built Into the boot loader. Good lick extracting it.

I don't see what the big deal is. He asked for an image and you guys all get into his business as,img what it's for. It doesn't matter, he just asked for the image.. you are the one making this complicated.
Now, OP you can probably find an image on google images or try to figure out how to extract it rom the splash image
I am new to Samsung phones. Two week agao, I got the S2 T989 with broken screen very cheap, so I decided to replace the screen and learn about. This week I got the screen and fix it. It doea works great and I love it, but I have a problem with. I had previously 2 HTC phones - MT4G and MT4G slide. I was able to get the S=off and had full control of my phone. I put my own splash logo and bootanimation. I flashed many roms and never brick them. Now I have a dilemma as I can not flash my own splash logo as it is part of boot system. I am average "joe" not any software developer. Can I replace the bootloader or flash my own logo - as I did on HTC?. Sorry for the rant, but I was under impression that I own the phone and can do whatever I want to with.
Splash logos are hard to change on samsung phones. Bootanimation is easy but splash is usually embedded in the framework of rom or phone itself.

Splash logos are the hardest to change. I used to put my business logo on my old HTC phones. I was strictly htc for a while. I leaped to galaxy and love it. They have an app in the playstore I heard of that might be able to help. I never tried it myself. BUt if you want to give it a try it's called SGS2 BootScreen Changer and its compatible with the T989 because it came up when i searched it.
