[Q] CM10.1 Increase Bluetooth signal - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

hello,
I flashed cm 10.1 some days ago, it works pretty fine, one thing I found out,
is that the bluetooth signal strengh seems worse then as I had in the Stock Rom.
I have a LiveView Device I got working pretty good with Stock 4.1.2, in CM 10.1 I get
often disconnects and it struggles on the reconnects too.
Is there a way to increase the power of the bluetooth signal about the same level as in stock?
cheers Avalun

CM has had bluetooth issues for as long as I can remember. There isn't much you can do, except not use it.

Flashing Radios Should Affect Bluetooth

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone but can't you find alternative radios to flash? This would affect WiFi, basic cellular reception/call quality, and Bluetooth. That's what I've read in multiple threads on here.

Flashing a Radio does affect bluetooth too? Nice, I thought that is only for GSM stuff.
I got my S3 from T-Mobile in Austria(EU), so is the Hardware compatible with the Radio from T-Mobile in the USA?
I read some threads, where people destroyed their phones because, they flashed them with incompatible radios, so I am a bit afraid of that
Edit:
Oh I see i am in the wrong board, T Mobile in Austria ships the GT-I9300 and USA the T-999.
Which troll ships different chipsets of the same device in the same company

I couldn't say for sure if flashing the modems would have any affect on BT. Itd make sense, but it being such a short range tech anyway, I doubt it'd make any noticeable difference.
I doubt it'd have any affect at all on any CM related BT problems. Every modem so far has worked fine for it on stock, so it would more likely be a purely rom issue.

Okay I see, is that only a CM issue, or does that occur with all 4.2.X Roms? Perhaps the radio doesn't work so well with 4.2?

All 4.2 roms are cm/aosp based as far as I'm aware.

Help me with my Bluetooth problem

Recently flashed my tilt 2 rodium to energy rom. Everything works great except the bluetooth, for some reason the range sucks on it. If i move more then 6 feet from the phone and the headset, quality starts to get choppy. Never had the problem with the other phone. Any idea, or fix maybe??
any help would be great

I'm not personally familiar with that ROM, but some of them may include a different radio than you had in your stock rom, and that can definitely affect BT performance. If you have a new radio in there now and are seeing issues like this, you can try out different radios to see if one gives you better results. Info and instructions HERE.

Weak wifi signal

I have an extremely weak wifi signal, I am only next door (About 1 meter away thru wall) - my laptop, nokia N95, PS3, nokia N97 and iPod have full bars but my phone has only 1.
My HTC Desire has a very low signal and often drops, when it drops I have to disable wifi and re-enable wifi else when its re-scanning it will never find the network.
This problem only occurs when using custom ROM (Currently using MIUI), I've concluded this by installing MIUI, Oxygen, GingerVillian and stock htc. Only in the stock HTC do I get full bars.
I have tested on all with recommended radios and stock radio. HTC ROM has full bars and never drops on all radios but the other ROMs have extremely weak signals even when using the recommended one.
Please help!
Noting the lack of replies on this issue, I'm only guessing that there is no real solution.
I also have found out that I must be on the wifi setting page for my phone to auto re-connect.
hi SMCentral,
found your thread while searching for weak signal cause.
feeding back to your test with different roms, i am on a stock rom (sw 2.29.405.5).
my wifi signal strength was very good last year as far as i remember, but recently suffering from very weak reception. i suspect a bad radio update over OTA. so different stock rom might differ. now i also have to go to wifi page to reconnect probably the signal seems too weak.
-- rajib
PS: Baseband version is 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
hope this helps someone to find the cause.
There is an update for the radio here (5.14.05.17). I downloaded the second file since it said it was safer to use. For me it's stable and nothing really happened but people are saying it has improved reception/signal.

I don't have problem with my signals whilst using stock rom but if I use a custom rom with any radio baseband and RIL, I get a very weak wifi signal. Try flashing the latest radio from http://www.mightyrom.com/mrx/MRX/Bravo/Radio/Signed/32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27.zip

I'll be trying this. Will feedback with results. Thanks buddy.
No issue for me regarding signal strength....
On a side note: I wish HTC had incorporated the wirless 802.11n standard to their WiFi module in the Desire...that has a far superior range and better bandwidth.
Yeah, if it had n support, it would of been amazing. Totally amazing.

Yup and would have stopped them selling more desire HD's with n capability. Sure it would have been nice if they had included it but that's life in the mobile phone marketing biz
No wait, after some research. HTC has hidden n capability. :O
I've flashed the .zip and well.. it works signal has become stronger too.
Just flashed the new radio , getting mmuc better wifi signal strength
Thankyou xD
You serious? They actually hid it??....that's so fiendish!!

[Q] Question Regarding Signal on AOSP vs Sense

Maybe this is all in my head so I need a confirmation. Do Sense ROMs have better signal strength/data speeds? It doesn't make sense to me but I just seem to have much better reception and speeds when using a Sense based ROM, including EVO framework ones as opposed to CM and Ruby. Is there ay reason for this or am I just imagining it?
I've often wondered the same thing.
I think, however, that actual reception is tied to the PRL, the radio, the PRI, and some more uber-technical stuff - in other words, things well under the hood that aren't impacted/changed when a ROM is flashed.
That said, I suspect ROMs play differently with those things depending on how they are built, hence what appears (or may actually be) better signal.
It all comes down to the RIL and radio. A rom won't mess with those. They should be identical. Check the signal dBm's to compare roms.

I figured it would be a radio thing but it always seemed it was changing from ROM to ROM. That being said, I switched from a Sense ROM to an AOSP one and the signal has not changed at all so thanks guys for answering the question. I knew it had to be in my head hehe

One thing you DO have control over is the firmware of the radio. There are currently 3 versions of radio firmware that you can flash. This has nothing to do with the ROM. Different people have different results in terms of link stability and speed depending on them. Look for the Radio thread to find the downloads and information.
I've actually had this issue on the EVO and can confirm after testing that the signal strength is less with an AOSP ROM (every one I've tried actually). Drives me crazy because I really want to use one.

How exactly did you test this? There are many variables that could influence signal.

[Q] How is bluetooth working on your ROM?

I have searched, read and googled but don't feel as though I've gotten a solid response because of the rather light usage of Bluetooth with most users talking about it. The reason for posting this is that I've tried multiple ROM's since I got the phone a month ago but have found that the Stock ROM has been not only the least of a hassle but also the most reliable in terms of connecting to the proper devices. The only thing I really use my Bluetooth for is connecting to my car stereo, a Sony, and I've continued to have problems with the ROM's that users have reported stable use and while I know mileage varies, one of the largest issues I've had is maintaining a connection using the various music apps.
Now, I know they've said they're waiting on source and that some have been fixed but I was hoping to find someone who uses the stereo connection as frequently as I do (daily use for my drive to and from work, about 35 minutes each way, as well as normal driving to SF during the weekend). I don't heavily mod my phone nor do I use a ton of apps, my use is pretty much text/phone/music with the occasional youtube video and of course browsing the internet.
Here are the ROM's I've used (eventually returning to stock due to a lack of reliability with Bluetooth):
CM10
CM9
AOKP
Paranoid
Leaked JB \
I've had the most luck with these 2, Bluetooth connection is recognized quickly and super reliable
Stock /
I'm not looking to flame, be flamed or stir up a hornets nest, just looking for input from those who are using the current nightlies because when I flash roms I tend to do full wipes to avoid issues so I'd like to minimize how many times I flash =)
I use freegs3 and Bluetooth works flawlessly.
May be asop thing.

I've never used it before, would you mind naming a couple of things you really like about it?
Since it's tw based you get all the tw features, basically all the main selling points of the phone.
It's smooth, stable, great on battery.
I got tired of aosp and aokp roms having hit or miss functions when I had them on my og epic4g. I feel Samsung did touchwiz right this time.

I couldn't agree with you more, I was pleasantly surprised at the smoothness of the new TW
I use Stereo Bluetooth running the BlackBean ROM and play my tunes via PowerAmp. It connects fast, never drops, and sounds great. When listening to my Motorola S305 headset, I can go well over 100ft away from my phone with music still playing loud and clear!

I use FreeGS as well. I like it because graphically, it is stock (I'm not a fan of the color themes), but under the hood you have lots of tweaks for better battery, accurate reporting of your data connection, etc.
I have no problems with my Bluetooth, either.
I wonder if it IS an AOSP issue, since solo the ROMS you mentioned were AOSP...

You know, honestly I'd never made the connection but you're absolutely right..I actually believe it to be an AOSP issue.
I'm using freegs3 now and it's been absolutely fantastic.
I'll take a look into Blackbean, for now I'll continue testing out freegs3 until I become unsatisfied =P

[Q] Same carrier, two different phones, difference reception

I have my Galaxy S3 and my coworker has an HTC Evo. Both of us have Sprint and yet his phone gets 3 bars of reception whereas mine only gets 1, 2 if I'm very, very lucky.
AFAIK, he's running stock, unrooted and I'm running rooted with latest LiquidSmooth 2.9 with the MD4 modem. No idea what modem he has.
What could be the reason why he's getting better reception? Better antenna build in the Evo?

Some of it has to do with the rom. Some aosp roms show a more accurate bar reading...which is why your's is fewer. I wouldn't really get to worked up over it. They both probably get similar reception and data speeds on 3g

Actually, my data is absolute sh!te and it's a pain to load nearly anything. I get data transfer speeds in the very low kbps.

I'm going to agree Ivpre. I would not get worked up over it. Unless of course it is necessary for you to have more Bars showing then him :silly: . You do most likely get the same Data Speeds.

I would suggest Updating PRL / Profile. Maybe even trying a different Modem. Not everyone gets great reception on MD4. You may have to experiment to see which works better for you.
If you want to properly know if your device is getting less of a signal you need to flash a TW rom, preferably one which is close to stock update prl and profile. Then check your signal and data speeds compared to your friends. AOSP roms remember are built from leaks, and ported from other devices. There is no true aosp source for the Sprint S3. So there's lots of patches and coding which goes into getting the cdma radios working.

We've actually done a Speedtest together and his had a higher data rate than mine. I've had different modem with the earlier builds of Liquid Smooth as well, but still low reception. I've also updated my PRL/Profile in the past in hopes that it'll help but sadly no.
I'll look into having a TouchWiz ROM versus this one. I just love how LiquidSmooth is, so hoping I can find a TW ROM that's just as fun.
EDIT: I don't even know how to find a TouchWiz ROM. I figured it would say "TW" along the subject line, the same way AOSP does, but alas I cannot find that. I have heard of Goodness, is that a TW ROM?

Some devices just get better reception than others. Better internal antennae.
My mom's old photon always got better reception than my 3d & s3

Most likely cause all the roms which do not say AOSP or CM or AOKP or something like that are TW roms. I would recommend MOAR or TPR The People's Rom.

OP,
Unless you're being very careful with your comparisons and using quantitative, and not qualitative, data like db, seeing more "signal bars" means nothing.
Sent from my buttered S3
You must also keep in mind, that even after you switch to a TW Rom. There is no guarantee that you will see better reception. IE more bars. There are quite a few variables involved. What you should concentrate on is making your device the best it can be for you. As CNexus stated. When comparing you have to compare Apples to Apples, and Oranges to Oranges.
