[Q] Google Chrome crashes CM 10.1 - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed my KF with the latest CM 10.1 Nightly the other day, and for some reason, Google Chrome crashes often.
Maybe crashes isn't the word I'm looking for. I'll be browsing etc. when all of the sudden it goes back to the CM home screen...
Any ideas on what to do? Is Chrome just not compatible?

I started using the stock browser included in CM10.1 because I had Chrome issues too. Not sure why, but think I read something about it recently.

Im pretty sure it is caused by the lack of free memory. When you use it does the keyboard sometimes not show up?

Yes, the keyboard acts up all the time like that!

Anyone else noticing this?
you're not alone. happened to me too.
Me as well. It was even corrupting some of my replies with gibberish. Back to 2.1 till it's fixed.
yup mine added a 0 at the begining of the email I just composed
Can someone try a different soft keyboard and see if it still happens so we can narrow it down to only a gmail issue?
Happening to me too.
Yeah, I'm getting this too.

It works. I replaced the current one with the one from gapps-passion-FRF91-signed and it fixed the problems. Had to load the app twice the first time as it closed itself to re-sync once.

Could you stick that apk up somewhere so it'd be easier to obtain?

My only hesitation in posting an attachment right here is that I know that to varying degrees Google frowns on their apps being openly distributed (re: the issues Cyanogen had that led to them being pulled from various ROMs and distributed seperately). I figure it's no big deal, but it's just so easy to find.
If you google "gapps-passion-FRF91-signed" you will have no trouble finding it. The first link is currently to mediafire and has the file right there. Dont make me LMGTFY =P
You can also get google apps from rom manager
Uploaded new Gmail.apk version 2.2.1 that does not append "0" or have garbage in reply. Enjoy!!!

Thanks askwhy. Downloading it now. And I googled it all by myself
Wouldn't that potentially be an older version of gmail, or were these pulled from a 2.2 rom?

Are you noticing lag after 4.0.2 update?

I'm not talking major lag, just a tiny bit when browsing the apps deck or widgets.
Yes, especially when scrolling through the Widget screens. Also had 2 Launcher force closes since flashing 4.0.2 Yesterday. Hope 4.0.3 will take care of that..
Yeah I noticed that as well... it's very slight, but it was noticeable for me right away.
Did you guys have yakju from the start? or switched over from another build?
I immediately noticed it with the keyboard. Slightly annoying .
Same here. GO Launcher is really bad. Stock is a bit "sticky" too.

I switched to yakju. Used to be that yakjux or w/e its called. I didn't notice any issues with the first update from Google though.

You guys need to go into settings, into developer options and turn on " Force GPU rendering". It will speed things up.

Yep, I rolled back to 4.0.1.
Sent from my GT-P7300
Maybe one of the reasons for crashing was the acceleration and they disabled something to cure it but made worse. Sigh.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Switched to the latest version of the 4.0.1 stock build, and things are back to normal again. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't in my head lol
I think I'm gonna wait it out with this image till google releases 4.0.3. Because they obviously broke something in 4.0.2 :S
the only lag Ive really experienced is with google voice commands. After hitting thehome screen button you have to wait a second before hitting the microphone- if you hit it right away nothing happens. Maybe a little lag with the keyboard in the firt 30-45 seconds the phones on but thats it for me. Now signal thats another issue and that ones annoying.

It has to do with the CPU governors, not everyone seems to be experiencing the lag issue which is weird. Got 15min left on mikes 2.1.1 will see if his release runs better, if not restoring to 4.0.1 until 4.0.3
Just rooted mine and my speed issues seem to be gone on 4.0.2. No idea as to why that is.
I too noticed this on the homescreen, browsing apps/widgets, web browsing... I use a live wallpaper and when I scroll to the left or right the live wallpaper stutters and just pressing the home button repeatedly while on home screen... the live wallpaper stutters...
like someone else said... I think it's something to do with the adjustments they made to the CPU governor
Just upgraded to it 10 minutes ago
Android nub question alert: lots of people here flash in a moments notice, so are you backing up your settings/apps/data etc using some app to restore after flashing? If so, what r u using?
Thanks

I personally use MyBackupPro, works great for me. Titanium Backup is a very good app as well. Also suggest to always do/have a Nandroid Backup to go back to just in case.
UPDATE: Anybody that's interested, 2.1.1 eliminated most of the lag I was experiencing on Stock 4.0.2.
thank you sir!

[Q] ICS 4.05 Keyboard Lag

Just installed 4.05. I am noticing that if I am in an app that uses the keyboard i.e Gtalk. and (with the keyboard still on the screen) I hit the home button to exit out of the app the app closes much faster than the keyboard. What I end up with is seeing my homescreen with the keyboard still open for about a second. Anyone else having the same issue? I have tried multiple different keyboards and still have the same issue. (Tried clearing keyboard cache and data as well).
4.0.5 eh?

[Q] Text scrambled

So I'm using IceColdSandwich, and recently, and randomly, the text on the screen under the buttons including on the weather app text gets all scrambled and distorted where I can't read it anymore.
This also happens once in awhile where the screen seems to show another screen beside it.
I have an Android Inspire4g phone. Anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this? or ways to fix it? I tried searching the forums, and haven't really come across anyone else with this specific issue.
It's a known issue in ICS and JB custom ROMs. Just kill the app and restart it.
Thank you.
Is there anyone working on a fix?
Which app in particular should I kill and restart... Apex Launcher?

The app that is misbehaving. I like to enable "back to kill" and just hold back when an app does it. I don't know if anyone is working on a fix; it's been around for awhile, but it's a pretty minor problem.

I've heard It's actually an AOSP issue not CM or AOKP as it happens on stock Galaxy Nexus too. So it'll be fixed when there is a fix for it in AOSP.

Games not working due 64bit?

Well i have an issue that some games just flat out refuse to work.
One example is https://play.google.com/store/apps/...smon.normal.freefull.google.kr.android.common which just crashes when it starts to download, however on my other device it's just fine.. Even copying over those files to my M9 didn't change anything and just crashes too..
It's the same with quite some games, though i cannot recall specifically which ones now.
Anyone else can doublecheck this for me please?
I'm on the Viper 1.2.0 rom.
Edit: i did manage to get a logcat, but don't see anything in it myself that could help: http://pastebin.com/7h5MkxK7
Can anyone please download this game and see if it crashes for them too??!
I really want to play this again damnit
