[Q] Return to stock without odin? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

My phone will not connect to my computer, it will only charge. (its not the cable because i was able to use the same cable with my old phone and it works fine). I was able to restore to my original stock rom with cwm and unroot but cwm is still installed and flash counter is at 1. is there any way to remove cwm and reset flash counter without a working usb port on the phone. btw i have the best buy 9.99 a month insurance thing, would they care or even notice these things?

Use mobile Odin. It does all the same things as desktop version. Just follow tuevsame steps to return to stock to be safe

[Q] Unable to update (Bell)

So it seems I've gotten myself stuck in a loop.
I have CWM, and a stock rom w/ Root. I haven't even uninstalled the bloatware, I only wanted it to pair to a PS3 controller via bluetooth.
It seems that on Saturday night, my USB micro port stopped working on the phone. There was a point it wouldn't even charge, but I got that working. I'm not sure if it's lint in the port or what, but my attempts to clean it have failed.
Because of this, I'm unable to use odin or kies to flash the phone, and the OTA update keeps failing with CWM installed. My question is, is there a way to flash the stock bootloader using the terminal (much like how I installed CWM, using recovery.img), so I can then install the OTA update, or another stock update, and possibly take my phone in for warranty? I don't even care about rooting it again.
The counter is at 0 BTW.
So I can't use the OTA update, because of CWM, but I can't remove CWM because the USB port is toast, but I can't get it warrantied because it's rooted w/ CWM. This is on a blue 32GB Bell phone.
Thanks,
LDS
Download the update from samsung-updates.com and flash with Mobile ODIN

He can download the update on his phone and extract it with Root Explorer or something else. And I'm assuming that you know what is Mobile ODIN.

I googled mobile ODIN - It's ODIN on the phone. I can upload the update using an FTP app, so I'm going to give it a try. Which frankly, is better than anything I've come up with.

You're my hero. This worked. It flashed away CWM, and I managed to get JB. I forgot to uncheck maintain root, but since I have the stock JB now, I could really care less at this point about my USB (as long as it continues to charge)

+1 to mobile Odin
Your issue could be one of two things (assuming you have the correct drivers) either the version of Odin you're trying to use is outdated or your usb cable/port may not be functioning properly.
Just to verify, you're powering your phone off, holding power and volume down to enter download mode and selecting the option to flash a custom binary correct?
If yes, try another cable if you have one, or another usb port on your PC to rule out those factors. The yellow com port should light up letting you know you're connected.
Also try a newer version of Odin if you're not already running it.
If all else fails, mobile Odin is definitely worth the money:thumbup::beer:

You use it flash a safe recovery tar file then use that recovery to flash your new ROM and stock kernel.

If you're looking for stock unrooted gb08 you can use the full Tar file, but if you want a rooted custom ROM you need to flash a zip

Rooting

Is there a way to root without using a computer? Like could I just rename the root 666 as update.zip and flash that in recovery?

No.
No... besides how could you flash anything in recovery when you need to push a custom recovery.img via pc? can't do that on a phone when you need root in order to flash a recovery from your phone. Only way to root without a pc is if there is a root exploit, like the Note 2 has, but the S3 doesn't have one as far as I'm aware.

No necessarily because you do have a stock recovery that allows you to flash a zip via update.zip

Is it possible to root without a pc yes, but I have no clue how it would be done and frankly I wouldn't want to do it. There were one click root apps available for certain phones at different points on the market but have no clue if there are any for the S3. I never used those though because at that point your completely dependent only on your phone with no access to your pc if you soft brick. If your going to use your pc in case you do soft brick then you might as well just use it to root also.

NO you cannot root without a computer.
But you can use Mobile Odin Lite and Odin flash the stock pre-rooted Tmobile T999 Jellybean v4.1.1
firmware using only your phone, here is the link for the firmware:http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390169635556426451
Here is the download link for Mobile Odin Lite: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1754368&d=1361632564
The mobile odin lite does the same thing as the Windows Odin does only it's easier and does not need a computer.
It's very easy to use, almost self explanatory and it installs like any other APK.
Good Luck!

Doesn't mobile Odin need root access to work?
OP, I'm not aware of any method of gaining root access on this phone without a computer.
I think we need more opinions on this matter.

Yeah, the reason i asked is because i have a Linux computer. Heimdall is all installed but it isn't working. Keeps giving me the same thing and its pissing me off. My first phone got dropped and got the inked all over the screen. Now i have a new one but no pc nearby to use to root it and it blows very very much. =(. Just want my root back.

[Q] Urgent Question about Rooting

I attempted to root my Galaxy S4 (T-Mobile) with ODIN using OUDHS custom recovery. ODIN says it passed and I used the flash the root file from the external sd card, but it still hasn't been rooted yet. (What I followed so you know what file I am talking about: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2268880)
Since it didn't work, can I just retry ODIN (possibly use CWM this time) again or will I brick the phone because right now it still works, but I am afraid that it brick if I try to go back to Square One.
I am a novice at Rooting and Android, so please forgive me if my question seems rather annoying or needy.
I can't think of a reason why you can't try again.
Also, you might want to try another recovery. I did my phone yesterday with clockwork touch.

whats the diffence between the touch and the normal one? (or is it just if your phone has touchscreen)
And do you mean recovery as restore? (using a backup in Kies)
Use Chainfire's CF Auto Root. Quick and simple, just look in original Android dev
