[Q] no 4g with custom roms - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

so the problem is pretty self explanatory if you read the title. I keep losing my 4g when i switch to a custom rom. Specifically a custom 4.2.2 rom like
slimrom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277770
or
paranoidandroid
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2118370
both of them say that they support 4g but when i go and install them i lose my 4g and my 3g is spotty sometimes.
I live in an area with a strong 4g signal and used to drive to and from work with 4g on all the time. Now i have 3g and it goes out sometimes.
So than i am left having to reinstall stock with
[ROM][RESTORE][5-12-13]Back to UNROOTED Stock with Auto Flash Count Reset
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769
with the root.zip so i can have superuser and than install TWRP with goomanager so i can get my custom recovery back.
If i dont restore my phone back to stock with all that comes in that custom zip i wont get my 4g back even if i clear out slimroms and just install a stock 4.1.2 rom.
so what am i doing wrong?!
It would also be a great bonus to me if someone can also explain to me why i dont get MMS in any of the 4.2.2 roms as well.
What i have tried so far...
1. I have tried using "pimp my rom" to get to the hidden menu and that didnt work
2. i have my msl and tried to mess about with ##3282# using this little tutorial and it didnt work
4G LTE Connection Fix For Sprint Phones (...worked for me at least..........)
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...ection-fix-sprint-phones-worked-me-least.html
3. I have reinstalled just a plain stock rom (not listed above) after backing up a custom 4.2.2 rom with nandroid and resetting the network mode back to lte/cdma from automatic and than restored the 4.2.2 rom. That didnt work
I would like a SOLID, DEFINITIVE, CONCRETE answer on what is going wrong and how to fix this problem please.

Nice rant. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42978776
A little reading goes a long way. In case clicking is too much effort I'll summarize. A recent change to CM 10.1, the base for all of our 4.2.2 Roms, broke 4g. they are looking into it. You can locate a nightly before 5/28 or stick with TW if it is a deal breaker. Have a nice day

even though your answer is packed with sarcasm ill still accept it. thx for your help. I dont read that thread as i have no interest in nightlies because i want a daily driver. I didnt know that they use nightlies to make the custom roms. i thought it was just stable CM10.1 only. Anyways thx again.

I haven't loaded the newest CM10 build myself, but I have never known an AOSP ROM to have build in PRL or profile update (please correct me if I'm wrong there.) There are ways of flashing these updates, but honestly what I used to when I was running AOSP on my Evo was just occasionally load the stock ROM and update, then go back to CM. It will take a few minutes, but you shouldn't have to do it often.

Cm attempted to implement it at one point but I don't think it was successful.
Just nandroid your current cm rom, flash the stock rom, update prl and profile, then restore your nandroid.

[Q] Another 'help a friend' thread

Hello all, I hope I won't get too much flak for creating this thread but I'm hoping to save some time and effort if some of you are willing to help me out here.
My buddy had asked me recently if I could help him use his phone as a hotspot when he goes on vacation, and I suggested that he install a custom rom to get that function since for some reason a Sprint rep told him he couldn't do it (not sure on the whole story with that...).
Anyway, I'm not really a newbie on rooting/flashing as I have an older Galaxy S1 device that I constantly work on, but on the other hand that's about the only device I have experience with.
My questions are:
1) Is rooting/installing a custom rom the best way for him to use his phone as a hotspot? It seems to be built into every rom that I've had on my device.
2) What are the most popular (and stable) roms available for this device? I'm asking because I won't see him enough to flash updates and he's not really the type to do that.
3) Are there any serious risks to rooting/flashing this device? I'm spoiled with my older Galaxy S1 phone that has no problem going from rom to rom like it was it's job. He'll probably be upgrading soon, but I still don't want to break it.
Thanks for any input. Oh and I don't know if this matters, but I'm almost positive he's on stock ICS right now.
1. The hotspot app won't work on stock because he needs the plan with sprint to use it. There are 3rd party apps out there that can use your phone as a hotspot. Most roms have the wifi hotspot check disabled so you can use the app the rom came with. Be warned if sprint catches you tethering too much data they could cut you off.
2. Maybe look into the blu kuban rom. It's very stable, awesome battery life, and looks awesome. It also has a built in updater in case there is an update.
3. If you read the instructions you should be fine. There's really no downside besides the emmc brick bug which can render your phone useless but most (if not all) kernels have this patched. Also remember that this phone has the recovery image packed with the kernel.
Hope this helps.

If you install stock/rooted gb27 jb you can use the EmperorX 4g hot spot mod.
Look up Emperor X in apps and themes, its not too complex to get working.

The blu kuban rom looks good, but I didn't see any JB roms that looked all that great (feel free to correct me) and I see that Cyanogenmod doesn't officially support this device for some reason. Are there any mostly stable 4.1 or 4.2 roms that you would recommend or is ICS the way to go?
edit: I wasn't looking in the 'original development' forum and just noticed there's a lot of good 4.2 roms that I'm used to like slim, AOKP, etc, now my question is if I wanted to flash a new rom is it the same as I do on my phone- wipe data/cache/davlik then flash rom/gapps and reboot? Is it that simple on this phone too?

If you have CWM 5 (gb or cm9) or CWM 6 (AOSP-based jellybean) you can just flash rom and gapps in recovery
If you do not have CWM 5 or 6 (anything touchwiz ICS+), you should use Mobile Odin or (less conveniently) PC Odin to flash the EL26+cwm kernel, then boot to recovery by holding vol+ and power. You can flash anything in EL26 recovery without incident

FINALLY!! Energy ROM 4.1.1 and PacMan 4.2.2. at the same damn time!

Ive had the XT907 Razr M VZW for about 6 months now. ICS came installed and JB officially came out a couple weeks after my purchuse. I have bricked and RSD this phone so many times Ive lost count. First three months of owning this phone I wanted to throw it off the tallest bridge I could find. Now with my phone unlocked and running SafeStrap v3.11 I am able to run Stock VZW 4.1.2 on my stock ROM with Energy ROM 3.14.13 build with VZW 4.1.1 running on my ROM Slot 2. Also im able to have the 4.1.1 camera work on Slot 2 while having the 4.1.2 camera in Stock ROM slot. Once I had both ROMs stable on SafeStrap I went ahead and flashed PacMan 4.2.2 over my Stock slot which was where I had the VZW 4.1.2 stock update running. Being able to now run two kernals through one recovery is bliss. Energy ROM to be is the best 4.1.1 rom out there hands down. Smooth flowing , heavy AOKP based rom that truely fixed my Wifi connection or lack of connection issues. And now I get to run PacMan 4.2.2 which is just straight gangster of a ROM. CM10.1 based ROM that takes the best of numerous ROM builds and apps, throw in crazy amount of customization, and you get pretty much Christmas morning joy of endless options. Long story short, finally got my Razr M to be the beast that I knew it always could be.
You flashed pacman over the stock rom and it work for you? What about flash pacman on ROM slot 1? Manage to get it to work?

I don't understand why you would want the energy over PAC... Not to be a jerk or anything. I would just like too understand what energy has that pac doesn't?
I had eclipse for a while. When the bl unlock showed up, well I pretty much crapped brix, I was so happy.
Then I bricked with PAC, restore with Matt's n such and settled again on PAC, and now I cant imagine life on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2, hence why I ask about the desire to keeps dual boot

If you go to those ROM's particular threads you will see that on energy you have to set up with safe strap, and with PAC you been unlocked boot loader and just do a straight flash( instructions included on page) I haven't done it, bit I imagine you flash PAC FIRST and then add the safe strap app and tool and "duel boot" energy after.
Good luck!!!!

Is 4.2.2 giving you radio issues? I tried Slim Bean and wifi and 4G/3G REALLY dropped, which hurt batt life.

As far as 4g/ 3g goes, I have heard that you have to set network to lte/CDMA/evdo instead of the standard lte/CDMA.
Concerning WiFi...I don't know :-/
I think it is slim that messed up your network though, because I had to restore to 4.1.2 and then reflash after I lost it all from slim

no 4g/lte on 2 different roms

First rom was slim bean
second was liquid smooth
Since it's happening on both, I know I'm doing something wrong
I just don't know what exactly it is.
Do the custom roms use different frequencies?
Would flashing a new modem(i know nothing about them) help?
this might help

Need to go back to a TW based rom, reprovision, ##72786# in dialer
Then you will have 4g back
If going to flash any aosp rom after this- most have lost 4G capability past 5/28 versions
I am using the 5/28 slimbean with fine 4G

Unable to Flash Custom Rom

About a month ago I had a Samsung Galaxy SIII Model # SPH-L710. I had little to no problem flashing a custom rom onto it by rooting the phone, installing TWRP, and installing the zip file from the Cyanogenmod Website. Very simple and painless. That phone however ended up breaking so I had to get a new one of the exact same model.
Now, I've been having a world of trouble with this one. To start when I tried to flash the ZIP file in TWRP, it would give me a status 7 error, I was able to remove that by updating my md4 baseband using the md4 baseband flashable zip which was mentioned in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303308
Once I did that the status 7 error went away, but now it's saying it cannot find the md5 file regardless of what custom rom I'm trying to install, it does say the install was successful, but all the log shows is that it couldn't find md5 file and then Successfully created partition tables and when rebooting the phone it gets stuck on the splash screen (though it IS the splash screen of the custom rom I was trying to install).
When trying to use CWM it says that it cannot even mount the SD card to install and ZIP file so I could not go very far with it and besides, the last time I did this I used TWRP just fine.
Any insight would be great.
Thank you!

Also being a new device you will only be able to flash TW roms until there is a work around for the current block...which i do believe devs are working on as we speak. Good Luck.

TW roms? You mean Touchwiz? If so, I've tried Googling and can't seem to find a solid answer or source of what's stable, what I can use with the Sprint S3 and so on .

Tried all 4 provided .imgs without no success and tried the odin versions which gave me the same results. Seems like this has to do with it just being a new phone. I am able to gain root access, mount storage devices in twrp (but not CWM) but just can't seem to install CM nightly or stable. Just says its updating partition settings and thats it. Also says the same thing with AOKP roms.
CM and AOKP are all aosp style roms. They at this time will not work on a new S3.
Like stated only TouchWiz roms will work. There are literally dozens of them. Googling won't help as much as going directly to the forum for Sprint S3 d2spr development section here on XDA. Do not attempt to flash any rom TW or AOSP if you did not get it from that specific section on XDA you risk turning your device into a 600$ paperweight.
Have a great day!
I hope someone can help me. I have the boost mobile version of the galaxy s3 L710 and I was told I can only use sprint custom roms to flash on my device but when I do they don't seen to work properly. Data ect. I again was told I need to make some changes to my device and I can't seem to find out what these changes are. Any help?
