Cache is formatted during a factory reset, so no need to do it twice. And you didn't say yes to formatting /system. Try doing a factory reset and formatting /system, then flash the ROM again.

i tried the system format but that wasn't the problem. the new speaker just suddenly went bad, have no clue why but it did, i put the old blown speaker back in it and sound works although it sounds horrible. Thank you everyone for the advice, really appreciated it
ohh yu can also flash Touch of Blue, its based on the latest OTA by HTC/VZW. It's completely stock with a couple of mods by the Author of the ROM but it should be good enough to see if the speaker is messed up software wise or the actual hardware.

Hi,
For example, on my galaxy s2, i pictures, movies, apps and whenever i did a hard-reset everything was deleted.
But on galaxy nexus the only thing i notice gets deleted is the apps i install, so the pictures are still there, and the files i create are also still there. I've also tried with a full wipe tool, but still they're there.
Is there something wrong with my phone, or there's no hard-reset like the s2?
I have Android revulotion HD rom with Original stock kernel.

Ive actually noticed this myself the last time I "wiped" my device and found the same thing. Pics, etc were all still there even though it put me through the steps for setting up my phone again as it did when I first got it.
Why IS this happening?

I know, but is this a bug, or is there another option for erasing everything on the sd beside doing it from the pc?
thanks
If you factory reset from the settings menu it is supposed to be a full wipe. If you factory reset from recovery it does not wipe the SD card.

I was having this terrible experience while I was trying to do a factory reset before flashing a new build from AOKP. Nothing was deleted, and I tried like 3 times : Factory Reset in Android, Wipe Data in Recovery, etc...nothing changed.
Finally, I flashed back the stock rom 4.0.2 from Google and did a factory reset and it worked, everything was erased including pics, musics, apps, etc.
So obviously it's a bug. You can ONLY do a factory reset in stock rom (ics) but not in a custom rom (AOKP or Android HD, ...).
Hope it helps.

If you're meaning me, then if you also would read, then you would understand, that i was saying factory reset, AND recovery mode wipe, so i mean, i tried everything i could. But heo_con184 explained everything for me now, and now i know it's the ROM 4.03 that can't do this.
thanks
I've got an similar problem, but in my case "wipe data/ factory reset" from recovery mode doesn't delete anything. When I choose "wipe data/ factory reset" in recovery and then choose to reboot after it tells me it finished deleting, it just boots like nothing has changed. It doesn't aks me to setup my phone (Galaxy Nexus). I also tried to wipe the cash in recovery. I also tried "fastboot oem unlock" which should delete data as an side-affect (for security-reasons). I tried CWM (ClockWorkMod recovery) to do a wipe of cash, dalvik-chache and a reset with CWM. But after all this affords every time I boot my device it shows the home-screen with all the app-logos arranged in exactly the same positions as I have arranged them (not the default positions and I'm not asked to go through setup). After showing me the homescreen for a few seconds, it reboots (thats the reason why I want to do a reset).
Has anybody an Idea how I could get my phone to work again?
Maybe flashing the OS (https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images)?
The strange thing is that I have never modified the OS. I have always only used the automativ OTA updates.

Have you tried wiping internal storage ? Wiping data wipes installed apps , your info like email and just returns you to a state of re-setting up the rom . I would think you'd need to also wipe internal storage where pics , music , downloads , nandroids etc and everything else is stored . I'm not saying it's not a bug , just asking if anyone having the issue has tried that from recovery .
One more thing to the guy who wanted to wipe everything to install a custom rom . There's absolutely no need to wipe internal storage to flash a rom . If you were installing a new version of windows would you delete all the drives where your pictures and everything else you've ever collected just to put windows on c drive ? Absolutely no you wouldn't . This is about the same thing .Wiping system , data , cache and dalvik is all you ever need to do going from kitkat to Lollipop or anywhere else . NO NEED . Recovery's and custom roms are set up like that to protect the people who might accidently wipe all their treasured stuff from storage and then crying for days at the loss .
Hello,
I am from the i9300 forum. My GF has a SGH-i747. When she updated it to official Jelly bean using Kies, all seemed to go well but then when she booted up to her home screen the phone would reboot. It would continuously do this over and over again.
So we had to use KIES to do a complete format of the phone and reboot it. This deleted everything and made it factory brand new again. This is that option where you have to type in your serial number into kies to do the emergency firmware recovery.
Well a few months went by and today while my GF was using her phone it froze and rebooted. It is now stuck in the bootloop. I don't understand why this is happening. She doesn't have the phone rooted nor has she flashed anything on it. I'm not familiar with the SGH-i747 so I'm not sure if this is a common bug that has been addressed for fixed.
Please help, my GF needs her phone for work and she's a few miles away from me. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Might've to get in recovery (hold vol up+home+power), clear cache, reboot.
If that doesn't work, back in recovery and factory reset, then reboot.

Yeah, I tried all that. I managed to back up her data so maybe we can restore her apps and information later. But this is similar to last time. I had her factory reset it, wipe cache, wipe dalvick, format system and format data.
We then followed by restoring her backup but the problem still persist. I might need to flash the stock ROM.
Could Fix Permissions fix the problem? It seems that the phone boots up to the home screen. While loading files, something at this point is causing it to bootloop. It will freeze after a few seconds and then reboot and repeat the problem.
Something is definitely conflicting within the first 30 seconds of booting up to the home screen. Any ideas?

Debloated stock ROM might be a good idea. When restoring, you might be bringing the problem right back. It should be very minimal (the needed stuff that you can't simply re-download or re-setup) to avoid issues coming back.

I edited my post above about fixing permissions.
But this is very similar to what happen last time. I had wiped factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvick, format data and system, installed fresh new ROM and that boot looped too.
It took KIES emergency firmware recovery (where you have to type in your serial number) to fix the problem, but everything was deleted even the internal SD card.

I doubt fixing permissions will change much but could try it.
From the way you describe it, it sounds like a app or some bad data. Is she using a external SD? If so, try booting without it. If not, my guess is that there's a rogue app or something corrupted her data.

Thanks. Yes she's using an external SD card. I will have to get a hold of her phone and see what's going on. The first time it happened was because we upgraded to Jellybean. it happened right after so I don't think it was a rogue app. This time she just pulled her phone out of her purse and noticed it boot looping. Something sounds wrong with her phone... I think we might need to send it back for warranty repair.
Okay I need help. I have discovered the problem and it is the SUPERUSER app. When Superuser was updated it caused my GFs phone a boot loop.
Now that I put fresh rom and cleared everything her phone was working. But the moment I rooted the phone itboddly didn't come with SU, so upon installing SU nothing could access SU for some odd reason. So I found out you need a SU for Jelly Bean, upon installing this version of SU is when everything went to he'll and the same boot loop came back.

What rooting method did you use to root your girlfriend's phone?
If I'm not wrong, most of the rooting method -- if not all -- for the SGH-i747 involve the SuperSU app instead of the Superuser app. And I believe most of the custom ROM, if you switched ROM, come with SuperSU pre-installed. If you try to install Superuser (without removing SuperSU), might that be the cause of your trouble?

Perhaps, I will try and fix the problem again. We just got back from a movie. Thank you.
if everything doesn't work
here's what you should do
first go look for AT&T 4.1.1 stock rom
download ODIN
go to recovery by vol up + power + home
clear cache, data and dalvik
flash stock rom thru odin.
that should fix soft brick
I recently flashed the CM 10.1 nightly and I've gotten the message "UIDs on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe...." Is there any other way besides wiping the data partition?

Anyother with this? Has someone tried to fix it?
only thing i can thing of at this moment is unfortunately unroot and reroot and start over your better of with a clean partition/system have you tried factory reset in your recovery ??? then wipe cache/dalvik and then try flashing a ROM again then fixing permissions ???
Probably the cleanest solution HERE
My boyfriend's Gnex was having problems so I told him to update his phone. We were both using Rufdroid and since I wanted to try a new rom with 4.3 OS I flashed my phone first. I went quite nicely and I'm loving PA3+ right now. Problem is when my bf flashed his gnex following the same steps I did with mine, his home soft key and most apps aren't working. he tried to reflash the rom and reinstall the apps but it's still the same. how can I fix this??

You have to do a factory reset which deletes the previous OS (including all your apps) then only flash PA3+.
Factory Reset ALONG with SYSTEM wipe
he did all that

System wipe is wasted step. The install script formats the /system partition for you.
Factory reset alone is sufficient for a new ROM flash.

Got the problem solved. I changed the recovery from TWRP to CWM and reflashed the rom. There was an error during the installation, but now it's working great.
Anyway, thanks for your help. :good:
Can anyone let me know the best way I can locate the cause of my note 2 freezing up occasionally so I know what I need to do to remedy it?
Try going into recovery and wiping the cache and Dalvik cache
Don't do a system wipe.

or
You could try and re-flash stock ROM with ODIN.

I was hoping Factory Reset wasn't gonna be needed if I can locate the culprit (If its an app that is).
I have got it rooted so I can flash the rom I have on it again or a different one. I currently have Ditto Note 3 installed v3.2.1
I am thinking you are about to experience sudden death, where the memory fails. It's what happened to mine before it died
But try re-flashing first. Use latest stock for your phone. Check Sammobile for the latest
